No, although I would be happy walking down the street if everyone I saw who carried a loaded handgun in a holster had been required to pass a course of instruction, a background check, and a firing range test. You know .... kinda like most states with concealed carry laws already require. : )

God, science, or both?
They are NOT mutually exclusive, people.
Answer to:
God, science, or both?
As I have been at pains to point out many times, there is no essential conflict between science and belief. Between science and "religion" or "fundamentalism" there is definitely conflict, but that is because of an unwillingness to even learn about science on the part of those who practice religion and/or fundamentalism. What they refuse to consider is that God gave us the ability to think and...

Obama is anti-gun I know that he doesn't want people to own semi auto's or assult rifles. I own them all. And I am a concealed carry permit holder. Do you think he can take these rights away?? Can he take my guns I already own? Or revoke my permit?
Your right to own guns is protected by the Constitution. These cannot be LEGALLY taken away, but gun-banners work constantly to chip away at this right as much as they can. If you don't already belong to the National Rifle Association, I suggest you join. The only way this Constitutional right is certain to continue is if those of us who believe in it band together and fight for it.

No, it's not wrong, but it has a great deal to do with your maturity level. What would be your reason for wanting to date her? What if the two of you begin to get serious? Are you prepared to become both husband and father at the same time? Keep in mind that her child will most likely come to love you. What then? What if you decide this woman isn't for you? Are you prepared to break...

Men how would you make me fall madly inlove with you, what are your secrets to seduction?
I don't see making you fall "madly in love" with me as being anything I would like to do. I have always treated the women in my life with kindness, respect, and the utmost affection. If they chose to love me because of that, then that is their choice. I'm afraid that any woman I could "make" fall in love with me would be a woman for whom I would have less respect.

CHRISTIANS True or False: "Inspired modern Church Leaders can contradict prior doctrine from Inspired Historic Leaders." And please explain your answer.
I look at it this way: "doctrine" is a human invention, as is the church ( The "Church Universal." however, is not a human invention ). If a man or woman is inspired by God to "prophesy" ( tell forth the wisdom of God ), their teachings will stand the test of time, and the test of how their teachings fit with those we already know are truly inspired. CHRISTIANS True or False: 'To know if scripture is from God, you should pray about it, and God will send you a spiritually discerned confirmation or denial within your spirit.' Please start with either "True" or "False" before you explain your answer.
This is one of the places where Christians often go wrong. God didn't give us a brain for no reason. Christians are expected to utilize the ENTIRE person: spirit, mind, reason, prayer, logic, emotions, etc. God is infinite and if we want to understand what God is trying to say to us, we have to listen with ALL we are.

I can't speak for other Vietnam vets, but I struggled with it until I was able to put a clamp on my emotions when I needed to, then take them out and examine them when I had the chance. I was very fortunate to have been blessed with a very stable personality. The only bad effect I had, that I know of, appeared about ten years after I got back ... nightmares. Ok I feel a little silly about the whole situation but the more I think about it the more I need opinions. My fiance and her bff are going to the club tonight to dance and hang out. I am not cool with her going to a club, am I wrong?
That is entirely dependent upon the level of trust and love between the two of you. For what it's worth, this is a growing trend among married women, and corresponds to "the boys' night out" for men. If you are "not cool" with her doing this, the two of you need to have a serious talk.

Why do people in relationships try to change their partner? When they get together, shouldnt they accept them for who they are and love them if it goes that far?
There are people who are self-deluded into thinking they can change someone else. They are almost always wrong ... what you see is what you get. Accepting your SO for who and what they are is a real accomplishment.

Is it true that nice guys finish last? If so, why?
No, that is very UNtrue. The human race grew up with and achieved dominance largely because of our ability to communicate and work as groups. Part of being a "nice guy" is an ability to talk things through with others. It's part of the old "cooperate and graduate" approach.

Those are YOUR feelings. They belong to you, you own them, you can change them. I always had this continuous lil talk with myself, telling myself that I was NOT going to allow fear to conquer me, that I was stronger than that, that others were depending upon me ... then just closed my fear off from my conscious mind and DID whatever was needed. It's trite, but the old Nike phrase, "Just do it," is right on the money.

Mastercard.
American Express is no longer accepted by a rather large number of stores because they raised their fees on vendors.

Discounting wind resistance, 180 mph. You cannot apply this same principle, however, to relatavistic speeds. Under relativity, the upper speed limit for the entire universe is lightspeed. If you are in a spaceship which has managed to approach lightspeed and fire a missle in the same direction of movement, it's top speed will still be less than lightspeed.

Why do so many people here ask questions about other people's religions and beliefs? Are they trying to learn or are they putting down other people's beliefs?
Both. Some people really are curious. Others think they can harm the faith people have by taking what THEY think are the most ridiculous examples from their "holy books" and asking innane questions about them. This is an attempt to side-step the AB rules.

Prophets wrote the Bible. Why is it that if someone claims to be a prophet or speak to God in this day in time, why do we treat them as if they are crazy?
People by nature look for certainty when the only real certainty is change. When someone comes along who seems to be 100% certain, many people will glom onto him or her out of their need for certainty. Even Christians ( perhaps ESPECIALLY Christians! ) are led astray by some of these people. Some of these self-proclaimed prophets truly are insane, while others are simply power-mad or...

What is now called hell was originally Sheol in ancient Hebrew tradition. Sheol was the place of the dead ... ALL dead. Hell is a New Testament development. Why do we care more about the color of ones skin than the quality of their character.
Humans are generalizing creatures. It was important to survival when the race was young. Imagine having to decide on a case-by-case basis if something was a predator or not. So we became able to generalize: two forward-facing eyes, long incisors = predator.
Unfortunately, we also often apply our generalizing ability to our own species. This is one of the primary sources of prejudice....

I ride a Harley most of the time, so I try to go with the flow of traffic. I am at a stage in my life where I can offer help more than I need to recieve it. God has been very good to me, and has taught me a great deal about life, and living, and friends. I suspect that one reason I'm still alive is so that I can share some of what I think I have learned. All of my friends on AB help keep me young by making me think and helping me laugh. I actually remember seeing this lil cartoon as a kid. Sadly, greed and selfishness have largely displaced any tendencies we had toward cooperativeness. That was almost changed on 9/11/01 when we were united for a common purpose, but our political leaders had no vision. Where there is no vision, the people perish. I fear for my grandchildren's future. : (

Is theory of evolution against God or not, and why
No, it is not "against God." Like anything else, evolustion is either true or it is not true. If it is true, it is what God ordained for the growth and expansion of life. If it is not true, we don't need to worry about it anyway. Those who oppose what they think of as "evolution" would be wise to:
1. study it to make sure they understand it, and
2. devote their time...

How do you feel about an adult being "just a big kid"? Good thing/ bad thing...?
As with most things in life, finding a balance in this is the key. Too much of a "kid," and you neglect your responsibilities and become a burden on those around you. Too much of an "adult," and you wind up being a curmudgeon that no one likes to be around because you're too sober and grim. Strive for balance, Grasshopper! : )

My dad is a chef who is 47 and wants to open his own restaurant, doing so would mean putting our house at risk as they are still paying off their mortgage. My mom tries to stop dad from starting his it but dad wants to and they argue and it turns violent?
This sounds like a classic case. Your dad wants to start his own business before he gets too old to do so, while your mother seems to see only the hazards involved. Finding a compromise in here is difficult. Perhaps your dad could start smaller than he originally planned, thus not risking as much? Without knowing more, it would be very hard for me to say.

It stings for guys to make themselves stop urinating mid-stream... do girls have the same discomfort if they force themselves to stop?
I wouldn't describe it as a "sting," but I agree that it can be a bit uncomforatable if you're not use to it. But, by practicing cutting off urine flow, you develop the puebogynococyl muscle. This is the same muscle that, when properly trained, can delay orgasm. Think about it.

Most men, as you may already know, are not as much in touch with their feelings as most women are. This means in practice that getting your guy to "open up" is not going to be an easy thing to do. The first thing you have to do is teach him that he even HAS feelings, in your sense of the word.

Yes. Each member of my family would take one of the tags and spend part of the money they had saved for Christmas presents on a gift for a needy child. Yes, we can forgive, but you need to remember that forgiveness is mostly for the person doing the forgiving. If you cannot forgive someone their offenses against you, you run the risk of having bitterness take hold in your heart, and bitterness can ( quite literally ) kill you. You should not forget, but you must, for your own sake, forgive.

If a child gets no reinforcement from whinning, the behavior will extinguish. The winner is getting something he or she wants, as a result of whinning. Stop providing them with what they want until the whinning ceases.

How do you pronounce 2008? "Two thousand and eight" or "Twenty oh eight"?
Putting the "and" in there indicates a decimal point, so the way you have it written it would be 2000.8
I usually read 2008 as "two thousand eight," or "two zero zero eight."

How do you measure success? (2009-11-15)
There are almost as many definitions of "success" as there are people. The way I measure personal success is like this:
Do I have a roof over my head?
Do I have food to eat?
Do I have clothes to wear?
Do I have ways to occupy my mind?
Is there at least one person who returns my love?
If the answer to those questions is "yes," then I consider myself to be a success....

No penetration = No cheating. Do you agree?
No, I do not agree. It's something beyond our control if we suddenly have a desire toward someone other than our S/O, but if we dwell on it, then it's cheating. Part of maturing as a human being is the realization that what the mind concieves, the body believes. The more we think about something, the more likely it is that it will come to pass.

Interesting question. I would imagine that certain aspects of personality take a bit of a beating when one is extremely attractive. It's certainly the highest FORM of love. Unconditional love is almost an impossibility for human beings. You have to realize that you are just as human as the rest of us. Most people have hurt others in their lives from time to time, usually without intention to do so. Beg the other person's forgiveness. If they forgive you, then let the bad memories fade. If they don't forgive you, then you have done all you could and your conscience should be clear. It can sometimes make you THINK you're going insane. Gossip is denounced in the Bible, and I think with good cause. Just politely tell people that you would rather not listen to gossip. If they persist, tell them that you have better things to do with your time than talk about people behind their backs. The word will quickly get around that you aren't receptive.

Make the best payment arrangement you can with them. Make sure you get the names of everyone you talk with, the telephone numbers ( and any extensions ), the dates/times of the converstaions, and the substance of the conversations. I don't recommend bankruptcy unless you have no other options.

Why do i feel like everything is fake?
This is not rare. I've felt this way myself at many times during my life. Even while fully engaged in something ( a firefight in Vietnam springs to mind ), there's still a sense of unreality. Most autorities think this is a natural offshoot of consciousness. My personal belief is that this happens because we are essentially spiritual beings in a material world; our subconscious...
