I just feel the need to ask this: do you prefer drying your hands using: a hand dryer, normal towel or paper towel? Why?
I like to use paper towel in public places, it's fast and easier. The dryer seems to take too long and it's loud. I rarely see cloth towels but if I do, I'll use it but not unless that is the only option.

Answer to:
Roommate has 3 kids, so there are 4 in the house + me. Do you think all household bills should be split in half or should all bills be divided by 5 and he/she pay their children portion of the bills too? Your thoughts?
I do think it would be fair for the roommate to pay a little bit more than half as kids (not 1 but 3!!) do add to the wear and tear of the house, use water, more electricity, food, etc. (Pets are charged extra in some rental properties - kids could do just as much damage).
I agree that this should have been discussed before you moved in (or they moved in).
Answer to:
Is my friend being childish about this whole job?
Yes, he is being very immature. Tell him to get over it and this is a lesson in life, you snooze you lose, nothing personal. This has nothing to do with whether you're a bad person or not, it has to do with motivation and not taking opportunities for granted.

How do you react to criticism? Are you able to take it positively or do you flare up and defend your actions?
I am able to take it (and defend it if I'm sure my actions need to be defended) but at the time it is given, I am not feeling/thinking positive. Later, I process it and see if there's any truth in it or if it's just bullshit. Either way, I am able to move past it.

Originally it wasn't called Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, why did they make so many changes to the original?
Because the original version was not fit for (future) children. Children in those days were not understood as we understand children now. There weren't many doctors/professionals that took interest in child development so children were raised like little adults. Look at the pictures of children from our past. They are often dressed in little adult clothes. Children's stories were told to...

What do you think of the 'no-kids-allowed movement'?
I think it's just another angle at taking parental rights away so that the system/institutions can have more control over the future generations. This type of movement would suggest that kids are mostly ill-behaved and that parents are irresponsible. Sure we can think of situations here and there where kids were running around and acting like kids in establishments but like I said...they are...

ok im 12 and i want to have sex with a 12-14 yo. can anyone help me!!!???
The best thing for you to do is to learn self-control. Why don't you stick with thinking about having sex and learning about pleasuring yourself. Close your eyes and take yourself to places that you want to go with whomever you want to go with. This way, you explore your body so you know what makes you feel good, you're using your imagination in the safety of your own bed, and you leave out...

how effective does running away for 2-3 days sound to get parents off your ass?
Not very effective...because if you run away, not only will your parents 'get on your ass' scheme escalate, you have the potential to piss other 'authorities' off (school staff, police, etc.) if you get into trouble. It is more effective to talk with your parents and exercise your lesson in how to negotiate and compromise.

I ask the same question....but I believe majority of people feel trapped...when you are desperate, you will readily sign over your rights. Besides, those pre-employment tests are presented to you as a protection and safety - not a violation. You (and your family) are the only one that will feel the pain of not conforming to the company policy.

Why do people lie and talk shix about you behind your back and then when you comfront them they act like nothing is wrong?
Because they are insecure and instead of looking at themselves, they would rather focus their attention on someone else's "flaws". They started the "talk" to feel better, being confronted isn't one of...

what was the last thing that made u to say " what the fu** " ?
When I watched the show "What Would You Do" on ABC News and saw people average people on the street of NJ walk by without helping a man that fell to the ground and was "unconscious" - he was acting, of course. But still, people have a personal moral gages for other people that determines whether other people are worthy of their help or not.

How many times a week do you eat fruit and/or drink pure fruit juice?
It depends on how I feel and also on how they taste. Lately, I have noticed that fresh fruits and vegetables do not taste the way I remember them to taste. I might eat fruits maybe a couple of times a week but veggies I eat daily.

Yes, once, long time ago but I did not know at the time, that I was with a married man. Once I found out, he insisted that they were separated but after his wife came banging at his apartment door with FOUR little kids, I left.
I cannot fully commit myself to a man under those conditions (being the other woman) because I know that what I could (and would) give him, he could only give me half...

i basically stay home 24/7
i only go out when i need to
i want to talk to someone even if its online
Do you choose to not have friends or are people not accepting of you? I do not socialize anymore either but I chose this, I think. People seem to misunderstand me and I feel like I'm wasting my time building relationships/friendships when they turn their backs on me when I need them the most. I think with all the stuff going on in the world right now, it is tougher to make a close connection...

I would stick with exploring your body alone. Once you cross that line of involving someone else in your sexual curiosity, you may be faced with things that you are not yet ready to handle or that you may not be able to back out of. What's another few years? Seriously...wait to have sex (including oral) and learn more about your body alone.

It is important to SUPPORT their well-being and intelligence so that they grow to be a caring, compassionate, conscious, sensible beings. But there is a such thing as over doing it. My sister has a job but carries no form of ID other than her photo school ID. How will she be able to cash her first check?
If she's under 18, she could open up a bank account with a parent or she could sign it over to someone who has a bank account and cash it at that bank- my son has cashed his checks through an ATM through his friend's bank account. He received the cash immediately.

What happen if you don't pay your bills?
Depending on what bills you're talking about, some (landlords, etc.) can take you to court and have a judgment against you (which will be on your credit report). Some can also take your tax refund or garnish your wages (student loan, IRS, etc.). Utility bills will just disconnect services and turn you over to a collection agency.

It's because of the sense of security you feel around older men. They have the confidence and stability that exudes sexy. Older men seem to be less selfish than younger men and more understanding of how to relate to the opposite sex. You feel safe. Also, most older men have a better control of...

It depends on if the neighbor is getting the police involved or if the neighbor is just accusing you and basically talking about it, openly. Aura is an energy that surrounds people. It is intangible but a distinct quality of a person. Kids are naturally curious about things they've never seen. I would tell your mother and have her talk to your little sister so that your mother can teach your little sister about inappropriate behaviors. I can't really say much more without knowing everything and I don't know if there is anything more to the story but someone definitely has to have a talk with your little sister.

I think for most, they do not intend to deliberately be unfaithful. They may know that they have a tendency to cheat and may leave out that bit of information but usually, the signs are there. Marriage shouldn't be with someone you don't know enough to where your partner is going to deliberately cheat on you. The connection should be made further than on the surface.

Answer to:
Why do people look around the eyes when they talk not in the eyes? personally i always look ppl in the eyes. how does it make you feel when i do this?
Sometimes, it's a cultural thing. I was born in Japan and I knew since I was very young that it was a sign of disrespect if an authority-figure spoke to me and I made a direct eye contact. We just looked down. In America, it can mean that you're not trust-worthy or truthful when you avoid eye-contact. I'm somewhere in between. I make eye contact but not stare. If someone I was...

How do you recognize people with a positive attitude?
For me personally, I can feel their aura - only in person (face to face - not online). I pretty much know when someone's trying to be positive but don't feel it, just faking it and I can also feel it when someone's just had a bad day/week but generally is a positive person.

Whatis the difference between empathy and sympathy?
From my understanding, empathy is when you haven't really experienced the other people's situations but you can try to understand their feelings. Sympathy is when you share their feelings from your own experiences and have a better understanding of what the others are feeling - like you've been there.

Do you think the world would be a better/peaceful place if all turn vegetarian?
No I do not. I believe everything (natural) on this earth is for all of us to use/consume to survive and what we eat goes back into the earth and everything gets recycled. There are certain things found in meats (as well as veggies) that we need to have for our bodies to function properly.

Would you relocate to another that's completely different from the one you live in now just so you be with the person you love? An example being moving from NYC to Omaha, NE. If yes or no Why?
I've moved around so much when I was growing up, it's not a problem for me to move and live in another city/town...even another country. I actually feel more comfortable doing so (rather than staying put in the same environment) than most people I know.

I need your help FAST!!!! My sorry excuse for a s/o is going out with his SINGLE friends 2 nite instead of being with ME!!! A co-worker of mine (who I have an innocent crush on!)is single and out drinking by himself. Should I invite myself to join him?
My answer would be absolutely not - and the reason isn't because you should treat your SO respectfully but you should respect yourself enough to break it off with your SO if you're even toying with the idea of playing the field. You can't play with fire and not get burned. If your SO isn't treating you the way you feel you should be treated, then end it. Why would you...

It would depend on whether your partner is willing to learn what satisfies you. If your partner is trying to do his/her best, I don't think you should give up on the relationship. Relationships are not built on sexual fulfillments alone. There are many other aspects to having a successful relationship. Good luck.

Well, attending/completing school/university doesn't only show what you studied, it also shows that you can stick with something and finish it. Just because you have a college degree doesn't mean you have to work in an office but when you don't have a degree, your choices are limited and you end up working very hard...

As an Answerbag user just one year old, I am confused. Why am I spending so much time on this site? Looking for answerable questions takes half the time. Feedbacks takes the rest. Then WHY am I still on the site? Please share WHY you are on this site?
The reason I am on this site is because it improves how I express myself and articulate my thoughts. It is interesting, also, to read how others see life in general.

Do you think it should be illegal to use anorexic models in advertising? Check the image in the link before you answer.
I've known enough anorexic/bulimic women in my life and their rituals to stay thin are so sad and seemingly helpless. The behavior is that of an addict. I don't know why any advertising company would use very thin models - unless they are trying to make us all desensitized to super thin and unhealthy women so that it gives young average girls a free pass to stay/get thin at all cost...

I don't know how solid your relationship is with your girlfriend but usually, women aren't going to feel threatened by other women wanting her man as long as the man sincerely isn't interested in other women. If you are enjoying the attention from other women or if you're afraid to be a little cold towards other women and letting them know 'clearly' that...

Do you take part gladly in ethnic teasing? Why?*
Yes! I am Asian and I've been teased plenty of times about my race and I also "pick" on others about theirs. With me, it's all in the intention...if you're trying to "hurt" me or if you're calling me names (I'm not a big fan of labels), then it's not funny. If you're just teasing me, then I can take a joke and I can laugh at myself as long...

I don't know if there is a name to call them but I suspect they are only trying to divert the attention to other people because, perhaps they have an issue with themselves about racism that they do not want to own or they are hyper-sensitive with racism (due to unresolved anger?) and they start seeing everyone that don't share their opinions, as racist. Not necessarily. He may not even realize that what he is doing or not doing is making you feel unloved. Are high maintenance women worth dating?
What do you consider worthy of your time? And not all high maintenance women are "fun". Most will be admired (or at the least noticed) by other men (and maybe envied by some women) but usually, they don't have anything meaningful to offer at that moment in their life.

Have you ever been so poor that the only foods you could afford to eat was top roman and potatos?
Yes, when I first moved out of my parents' home at 17 years old. I would eat toasts in the morning, ramen for lunch...and sometimes, I would skip dinner - if I was hungry though, I would eat ramen again. If I had any extra money, I'd buy eggs and have scrambled eggs with toasts in the morning. Breakfast was very important to me.

Why do people hate to see other people succeed? I am the only one who is graduating from college in my neighborhood, and family, why cant people be happy for me instead of hating.
Those people around you do not want to see you succeed because with success comes you moving away and maybe even staying away. There's strength in numbers...or there's a saying: misery loves company.
Pursue your success, if that's what you want to do and once you get out of your small circle of "friends and family", you'll see that there are people that will be...

How can I convince my girlfriend that I love her and that her having a child from a previous relationship is not a problem for me? She seems insecure and to have low self-esteem. I would like to do what I can to change that. Please help.
Dating is a whole new experience for a mother that recently became single. Not only does she have to think of finding the right man for her but also the right father-figure for the child. For or against? To prevent child poverty and reduce population growth, children should be "sterilized" at age 12 and "made-whole" at age 25 (at no cost to the parent or child).
I am against this as it takes away another job that parents should take on and teach their children from right and wrong. It's a quick fix...a band aid for a problem that parents need to look at and handle.

I read this statement: People are successful not because of what they say, but what they ask. What do you think?
I guess it would depend on how you would define success because I believe everyone has a different definition of what successful means. I don't believe that statement to be true. You can ask all the right questions but if you don't get the right answers or even listen to the answers, you're not going to flourish.

Infrequently. Sometimes, what it could've been may not be the same as what it would've been. I would rather have the great memory of short times shared with a person than have it possibly destroyed by longer times spent with that person. Things happen for a reason.

Do you think that 10 years old is to old to go over mom's knee for a spanking? Ofcourse only as a last resort.
Yes I do. I think by 10 years old, they are old enough to understand right from wrong and they can feel the "sting" of having privileges taken away just as much as if they were being spanked. The problem with being spanked at that age is that it's more of an embarrassment to the child.

Survive, yes...but live? Only by pretending that they are what they are not - which will eat away at their true self, slowly - which makes them frustrated and unhappy. Woman: Do you realize that sometimes when a man retreats from you, it is not because he can't handle you, but because he is refraining from beating up on you? Did you realize that you can severely test a man's restraint? Do you want to provoke violence?
That would mean that this man has no self-control, which comes with maturity, and/or has no respect for the woman (or women in general) he is with. With that said, it is not the woman's responsibility to "back off", it is the man's responsibility to keep himself in check during heated arguments.

There was a time when men drooled over full hips and relatively smaller breasts and wouldn't even glance at women with smaller hips (considered to look too much like a young boy). There were also a time when men found milky white skin to be beautiful rather than tanned...

How many days can you do without a car?
Many. I haven't had a car since November 2008. It was so uncomfortable at first but that's when I lived in town. In Jan. 2009, I moved to a semi rural area (no bus route) and it hurts even more but I get around through friends, family and my own two feet.

Why do most women spend much time on improving their LOOKS and not their MINDS?
I've wondered that myself. I'm starting to see my friends who are spending money they do not have on botox, cosmetic surgery, tanning (excessively), gym membership, etc. I mean I understand wanting to look good but DAMN, it's crazy what some women do and how far they go just for that "perfect" image.

It would depend on the reason why your family don't like him...so much so that they may never speak with you again. That's a concern.

Would you marry the perfect(smart, beautiful, sweet) wife or husband that never gets horny? Ladies, wouldn't it be a dream not to have a horny husband nagging you every night for sex? Instead, he would show his love by doing your chores, cuddling, etc.
Oh I don't know...I would prefer a husband that was horny all the time and bugged me for sex daily. Cuddling is a must too though...I don't need him to do the chores except for taking out the trash, and shoveling snow/mowing lawn...killing/getting rid of bugs/rodents...

I esxperienced something 22 yrs ago. Last night I admitted it to my husband of 7 yrs who keeps insisting I am hiding something. Now I have said it outloud and have to deal with it. The memory is horrid but now I have to deal with it. Any advice?
Take it one step at a time. It happened that many years ago and it still has a profound affect on you so maybe it's time that you face it and let yourself be free of the past experience. Your emotions and your innerself will let you know what steps you will need to take. If you need to talk about it, talk about it with someone who will support you. If you need to cry about it, cry. If you...

I'm 16 and am alone every single day. Literally, I just sit around by myself until I get tired and go to bed. I have absolutely no friends. I'm an awful person and have no purpose
Are you sitting around in your house or are you sitting around outside? If you're in your house, get out and do something (sign up for a club/group, go to events, walk around the park, etc.) or nothing "outside" your home. And stop thinking that you're an awful person because that is how you will be treated. Start thinking, even if you don't believe it at first, that...

I am temporarily (I hope) disabled. I cannot hold down a steady job. Right now it is mostly due to my energy level. I may have energy for an hour to a full day. Can you think of any jobs that would have that much flexibility?
It really depends on your experience and how much you are able to do but you could work from home if you have any experience in the medical field. My girlfriend was hired answering her phone at home scheduling appointments. She was on call though so there were no set time for her to work.
You could also look into calling temporary agencies and see if you could "cover" for people...

How can you prove a mom un fit if she doesn't work, have her own place, and just hangs out with her friends? i'm trying to get custody of my daughter but, everyone said women always get the kid.
You'd be better off trying to find some type of evidence that she's abusing or neglecting the child. Being unemployed or having friends doesn't mean she's an unfit mother. If your child is old enough, it would be better if you could talk with her and see if she would even want to live with you, primarily. If she doesn't want to leave her mom, she may feel the stress...
Answer to:
Why is violence in the movies or on television less offensive to some people than sexual situations?
Because these people that are more offended by sexual situations are conditioned to believe that they 'should' be offended. It's the way sexual situations (and violence) are presented in the media. Media can change the way you think of something, over time.

Yes I do. I know this because my 18 year old son and my 15 year old daughter are so well behaved and respectful. I couldn't ask for anything better than my children and who they are. And I know I haven't been a 'perfect' parent with all the answers. I've made many mistakes. They have no other relatives helping me raise them so it's been very difficult but worth it.

This is one of the very small examples of seeing, for yourself, how they are trying to take away the rights of parents so our future children can be "controlled" by the States.
A few years ago, my daughter was harrassed for being Asian by three children and I was told this by my daughter...not by school. I was furious and spoke with the principal. The principal told me that they...

That really depends on you. Some people will go through pain and suffering to learn from life and to gain experience - after all, every thing in life is a risk, and everything in life is impermanent. Some people would rather not put the time and effort in some things in life that they don't feel is worth the pain. With that said, I would stop 'searching' for the "right"...

What is your hair like? (Color, texture, length, style)

Hello Crayon! Have you found anything that works? My teenage daughter has them (Keratosis Pilaris) and she is so embarrassed by them. I just did a search online and I hear exfoliating and Clearasil Vanishing Cream works. I'm going to have her try the Clearasil. I just wanted to see if you found anything.

Well, you could sell something you own or offer services (lawn care, paint, clean, etc.) in your neighborhood for quick cash while you're looking for an employment. Come up with a realistic plan for your future (short and long term) and let your parents know what your plans are. At least you are able to stay with your parents for now and that's more than some people could have if they...

I don't normally focus on calories or fat but if I felt I needed to lose some weight, I focus more on the portion...the serving size... and still eat what I normally eat. I have been the same weight for over 20 years.

I'm not sure since I cannot see my neighbors with trees and creek bordering our properties and they are far enough away from the road that I'd have to go up their driveway and be standing in their yard to be able to know that they're doing anything illegal. I've lived in a bad part of neighborhood before and I basically minded my own business or moved away (after having...

Answer to:
Why do men in relationships avoid conversation when being addressed about a particular situation, is it something that all men do in order to avoid confrontation if its not what they want to hear
I've found that most men do not like to 'argue' with women because most women can be relentless and women are naturally better at articulating their feelings. With that said, a healthy, productive communication works both ways. As much as men need to meet the women half way, women need to understand 'how' to communicate with men - and each men are different in how they...

I really like Bill's sense of humor and I could put up with him all day...not to mention his great smile.

How do you bring about an understanding between two when one is solely accustomed to his own point of view and not the other?
Well, the problem is, it's not understanding that you both need, it's acceptance. You don't necessarily have to understand someone to accept his point of view. It only becomes an issue when you cannot accept his point of view. You can't change someone's way of thinking unless that someone wants to change it.

Well, it's a good start that he is at least telling you how he feels. What you should do will depend on what he says and what he wants to do.

I become really nervous around people: stuttering, laughing too much, acting super happy and outgoing. How do I overcome social phobia?
You can try focusing on "listening" to people and learning something about them. It sometimes takes the focus off of paying attention to how you feel. When people are talking to you, don't think about what your response will be or what you should say, just concentrate on what is being said and try smiling and nodding. Also, find out WHY you feel so nervous around people.

Serious Question: What are some signs that your family are dysfunctional and how do you fix things or get away from those situations. Is it wrong to cut ties if there is no solution?
It looks like you already see the signs and that 'something' isn't right with your family. A family is supposed to bring out the best in you and support you in positive, healthy growth (emotionally and psychologically). If having them in your life is toxic to your personal growth or your peace of mind, you should limit your time with them and let them know why you are doing this....

I don't think she's a gold-digger, she's just in a jam and she needs help getting out of it and she doesn't feel like struggling anymore. Personally, I would remain single since partnership/love/relationship is about helping one another. If she wanted you to have a steady job with a steady income, she should support you and help you find that, if that's what you want....

The only way they would find out is if you did something on the job that goes against their policy and it makes them investigate your application. And then they could fire you for not having a H.S. diploma "IF" that's one of the requirements to work with this company. Not all companies require a H.S. diploma. In the meantime, try to get the diploma so you're not worried...

I would not feel uncomfortable undressing in front of a gay man because he wouldn't think that I'm coming on to him.

If your stepdaughter came up to you and asked you about her period and you were her stepfather how would you take this and would it embarrass you?
Well, I know that men are wired a bit differently than women so what may embarrass a man may not embarrass a woman. If the step-daughter is comfortable enough to ask her step-father, he should answer honestly and if he doesn't know the answer, he should help her find the answer. Maybe the step-father could ask one of his female relatives for help.

Try very hard not to have any contact with your ex. Keep busy with your time and understand that this change will take some time to get used to. Sometimes, it's not the partner you miss but the idea of having a partner.

My opinion of women like that is they are the one with problems and they do not know how else to make themselves feel better about themselves. It's diversion, so people do not look at them for their flaws instead, they get people to focus on you and your flaws - true or untrue, it doesn't matter to them.

Ladies: Do women really judge other women by what they wear? Do you think differently about a woman dressed in blue jeans rather than a dress? Would Mrs. Cleaver be admired or downed by today's women?
I personally do not judge other women by the way they are dressed but it seems younger women do (my sister does, all the time). Younger women tend to pay more attention to the women that are appealing or dressed to get attention - and then their opinions are expressed openly. Mrs. Cleaver would be talked about behind her back - not because she's wearing a dress but because of the type of a...

Sometimes, fantasy is much better than the reality. Part of being mature is to enjoy fantasizing without needing to experience it. How do you know he cares? And why isn't that enough for you? The only time I would feel that you're being needy and you probably should work on reassuring yourself is if he is trying his best to show you that he cares and he has given you no reason to think otherwise.

One of my sons is 15 and is at camp. He has just tried his first beer ever. When asked if he enjoyed it, he said no. He knows that we disapprove of drinking. How would you approach this situation?
I would talk with him about it without putting him on the defense so that he will keep his line of communication open with you. Tell him why you disapprove and voice your understanding of alcohol and its effects and possible consequences (from EXPERIENCE) and how peer pressure works. Even though you don't approve of drinking, let him know that if he is ever in trouble, to not be afraid to...

Answer to:
Do you think painted toenails are sexy, cute, ugly, or do you think nothing of them?
I think it depends on how their feet are. I definitely like toes painted but if their feet or shape of their toes aren't really attractive, I think they should stick with not so noticeable colors (neutrals and lights). If they are pretty, then paint them red or anything that makes them stand out. I tend to think the shape/condition of the feet is what makes them sexy...not so much the nail...

Why is it so difficult to be alone? We born alone we will die alone, why need people in between and be unhappy over it? Is this a stupit question?
I've been wondering this myself. I haven't had much of an option when it came to whether I choose to be alone or not. I tend to love being around people and I was (around people), for the most part (of my life) but sometime down the road, I realized none of them really "cared" about me or the relationships were very disposable. Don't look for the right answer to cheer her up. You don't always have to say something to feel you're helping. Just be there and listen to her or quietly share some time with her, touch her, rub her arm or her back every once in a while to let her know that She's not alone...take her for a walk in a park. Exercise and being outdoors helps the mind.

Nothing. You live in your "parents'" home. They can do just about anything they want, unless you help pay the rent, pay for food, do your own laundry and pay for other expenses to run a home.

First of all, you need to change for you so that your change is authentic and you are comfortable with it - and once you are, you will not be bothered by those that don't believe you're any different. They'll know. Secondly, it will take time for people to accept the change but they will eventually if you are consistent in who you are now.

How do you know when your teenage child is lying (I overheard a conversation on the bus where a girl lied where she was said she was at a movie but was at a party drinking alcohol)? I am now scared when my kids grow older.
Get to know who they are...LISTEN to them not only with your ears but also with your eyes...what I mean is that hear what they are saying but also pay attention to their behaviors. You 'will' know when they do lie and if you have trust and give them some room to make mistakes in life, they won't betray the trust. Keep the communication line open, always. When they do things that...

I'm not understanding the question...or at least I don't think I am. And if she is overly friendly to everyone else, then that's all it is...nothing more.
