I heard that the english vocabulary is only a tenth of what it was 500 years ago, what are peoples thoughts on this? what you gotta remember is that the social classes each spoke differently as well. Plus english may not seem like its derived from other languages but it is, so technically it was a lot bigger when people were speaking english from different regions and words were moving from one to the other. Saxons speaking english would have a lot of their own words and terms. that's my opinion
