plain bagels, blueberry, raisin , onion or other ? what would you like? Im eating a blueberry one :-)
I like plain, cheese, pumpernickel, garlic or sesame. I don't like the onion, poppy, "everything" which is just a bagel with onion, poppy and sesame seeds, or any with fruit in them like blueberry or raisins (sweet bagels). The local supermarket supposedly makes their own and they sometimes come out with novel flavors like "pumpkin pie" in the fall or "egg nog" near Christmas.

Why doesn't instant mashed potato taste anything like real mashed potato? What do they put in it to alter the taste?
I have no problem with instant - they are a lot easier to prepare and almost as good. They are also a lot better than they were years ago. I remember then my parents referring to instant potatoes as "wallpaper paste" when instant first came out. Of course, you have to get a name brand like Betty Crocker or Idahoan. Generic instants may not have the same quality. I use buttermilk to prepare them...

You could try calling a veterinarian and asking, or bring it for an autopsy if you are that curious. My sympathies to your loss. My cat brought home a tiny baby bunny last year. It was still alive and I called a wildlife rehabilitator and he took it. I called him later and he said the bunny died - I guess it had internal injuries.

Believe it or not, I never had a credit card (or any other type of plastic payment). I figure that when I reach in my purse and the money is gone, I have to stop spending. However, it's getting tough to find insurance or stay at a hotel without one. It wasn't like this even a few years ago. The first thing any business asks now is for your credit rating. Did you know that there is a $3 fee (if you are over 6 years old) to visit the "Four Corners" monument in the southeastern U.S.?
It's all here - hours and admission.

And it's $15 to visit the Meteor Crater in Arizona and you can't even go down inside it!
It just bums me out that someone always has a hand out for money for things that should be free and open to the public.

Do you wish that you had a better education?
I started working with a two-year degree (Associate). After 17 years with no promotion, I inquired and was informed that I was working at the top salary grade allowed for that degree. I went back to college (part-time, of course) and got a Bachelor's Degree. Even then, it took another 6 years to get a promotion and I never received another. Kinda spoiled me on knocking myself out to get edgycated.

Should a major emergency hit the United States, are you prepared?
I am so totally unprepared, I can't even handle a minor inconvenience. I am lost if the power goes out - no TV or Internet so there 's nothing to do. If I don't know where my next meal will be coming from or the car won't start, I'm in a panic. Never developed a "think ahead" strategy for life. Guess this comes from being an over-protected only child.

No, because if some really loved you, they wouldn't resort to beating. They could calmly discuss any issues in a mature manner. Why do Catholics confess their sins to a priest instead of confessing to God?
I always wondered why Catholics had to do this. They also cannot pray directly to God or Jesus, but must pray to a saint to take their prayer before God. Kind of a circuitous way, if you ask me. If God is all-knowing and all-powerful, why can't It hear individual prayers?

I like mine cooked until just all the pink is gone and it's a uniform brown color, but not charcoal, so I guess about an 8. I think cooking to well-done brings out the roasted meaty flavor. Not only that but each sign has moved back one (i.e. if you thought you were Aries, you're probably really a Pisces), due to the procession of the equinox. The Ophiuchus thing only effects those born in late November and early December (early Sagittarians). I think people who follow this will still stick to the tradition horoscopes.

I have a land line, so there's no way to turn it off other than to pull it out of the jack. Hardly anyone calls anyway. If I get a call after 7 PM, it's usually a wrong number or an annoyance call. I look at the caller ID. If it's a number I don't know, a political call or other soliciting, I just pick up the receiver and replace it. End of phone call.

I liked it as a kid. Living in the northern U.S., the first snow of the season meant Christmas was not far off. Like most other holidays, it has gotten way to commercial. Like a previous responder said, we're losing sight of the real meaning of the holiday. 50/50. Now that my mother is gone, the annual family reunion held usually sometime on the weekend before the weekend before Christmas. It is the only time I get to see most of them. The food is pretty good. There's no drinking and we get to play games for "prizes." However, there are some that make me feel uncomfortable and don't speak to me and I don't know why.

When you see a homeless person holding up a sign asking for work, food, etc. what do you do?
I've never seen one holding a sign or offer to do work for a handout. In my locale, they just ask blatantly verbally for money usually "To buy a cup of coffee and a sandwich." I don't give handouts believing that if people want money they should do something to earn it. There are enough soup kitchens and missions around to help these people if they need coffee and sandwiches. I suspect they may...

ABers that observe Christmas and have family - would you put as much into celebrating it if you didn't have?
When my mom and dad were alive, they decorated inside and out. Dad put up the outdoor lights and decorations. Mom did the inside. Our house looked like Christmas Land from a tree to a manger scene. Every doorway and stair railing had fake evergreen roping around it. For a few years after dad passed in 1983, mom didn't even want to be home on the holidays. People have been proclaiming "end times" for thousands of years. Early Christians expected it within the first 100 years after Christ's death. Ancients thought every comet, eclipse or nova was a portent of the world's end. As my high school science teacher once said, "The earth has been here for billions of years and will be hear for billions more."

I like eggs scrambled, fried or boiled (in no particular order). However, when I fry eggs, I usually do it to the point of making them hard an rubbery (my mother termed my fried eggs "hockey pucks"). My mom like the whites cooked but the yolks liquid. Dad liked his eggs barely cooked at all, which I termed "lugees on toast." I like all parts cooked until firm. I find any liquid part of an egg...

My personal, belief is that this is just mutilation for the sake of personal convenience or fashion. I especially don't believe in declawing cats - cats need their claws for hunting and defense. If you were to open your own restaurant, what kind would it be?
I've always dreamed of running a restaurant, but fear legalities (someone allegedly gets sick on food eaten there). Also, so many mom & pop eateries in my locale have gone under in the last 2 years. However, if I WAS to open one, it would be kinda like a diner, but with quirky twists to staple foods...like adding some cumin or cayenne pepper to biscuits, pearl onions or cauliflower to beef...

There's no set rule where genetics and recessive genes are involved. The mother could have recessive genes for lighter colored hair and eyes that are masked by the darker dominant genes - if the baby gets a set of recessive genes from mom, it could have lighter hair and eye color. However, as someone already stated, if the dominant genes are passed along, the baby will have dark eyes and hair.

Thanksgiving because the focus is all on food. You don't have the extra pressure of gift-giving. Christmas would be great if it was less commercialized. July 4th is okay but it was never a big deal in my family. I hate Halloween because of the Satanic elements that have come to be associated with it.

Does anyone else find it stupid that there are 12, 13, and 14 year olds stressing out about not having a bf/gf? They're so young!
The social pressure on kids nowadays is tremendous not to mention peer pressure. They are in just too much of a hurry to grow up resulting in a lot of teen pregnancy and deadbeat dads. When I was 12, I was still playing with my dolls and thoughts of having a boyfriend was a decade away. But that was the 1960's.

Going by the Bible Adam and Eve suppossedly ate some sort of fruit as the first sin. If you believe the Bible do you really believe it was fruit? If so what kind? If you don't think it was fruit what do you think it stands for? I think it represents sex.
It was fruit of the "tree of knowledge of good and evil". When Adam and Eve ate, they became aware that there is both good AND evil. They suddenly realized they had free will and did not have to kowtow to Jehovah. Thus sin entered the world. The serpent (Satan) had driven a wedge between humans and God.

Who can say what their names are. We just have made-up names from story and song. We can't even say for any certainty how many Santa actually has. Answer to:
Why are McDonald's sales slowing?
Their prices are getting too high for a fast food venue. When they first started the burgers were 19¢. Now you could go to an upscale sit-down restaurant and get an entree for what McDonald's wants for one burger. Why pay $5 for a greasy piece of gristle on a bun when $5 will buy you a foot-long at Subway full of healthy meats and veggies.

I skipped out on a restaurant bill last night. Took them an hour and a half to bring out an order of 10 chicken wings - which were burnt - and we had to get up and find the waitress for a drink refill. Have you ever done a "Dine and Dash"?
I've never left without paying the bill. Hard to tell if it's the chef's fault or the wait staff. One should not be punished for the other's mistakes. There have been time I have not left a gratuity, though, when it was definitely the wait person who was rude or inattentive.

What was the worst Thanksgiving you ever had? What were the circumstances?
It was in 2004. My mom was sick and her healthcare worker promised that she would see that two Thanksgiving dinners would be sent to us. However, only one dinner was delivered. It was barely enough for one person and we had to split it. Added to this it was a gloomy, rainy day. When the worker came again, I lit into her and told her what happened. She totally reneged on what she had promised...

I did once with a youth group from church. I have an unpleasant memory of that. I never ran with the popular kids, and someone walking behind me in the group beaned me with a rock. Does head hair reach a certain point and then stop growing?
Hair grows (anagen stage)until the root reaches telogen stage where growth stops and the hair falls out. A new hair then starts to grow out of the same follicle. Head hair gets longer (if left uncut), than hair on other parts of the body because it has a longer telogen stage (longer turnover time).

Do the Jehovah's Witnesses celebrate pagan holidays? Why or why not?
The only thing they "celebrate", and it is not really a celebration by modern terms (it's more of just an observance), is the Lord's Memorial Meal, held on the first full moon after the Vernal Equinox. It is like a mainstream Christian Communion service, however, no one except the chosen 144,000 may partake of the emblems. They are just passed through the congregation.

Cats are fairly low maintenance for that life pattern. You can open a can of food and leave it for them to eat during the day and they don't have to be walked.

I like my steak well-done, but not a cinder. I have a difficult time explaining that to cooks in restaurants. It seems they either serve it practically raw or cooked until it's a charcoal briquette. I want it cooked just until all the pink is gone and it's a nice light brown all the way through - but no black.

Being a catholic, i disagree with what Halloween as it is a mockery of what it used to be, a day to remember those no longer with us. It makes me angry with "Trick or Treaters". When and why did the current Halloween tradition become popular?
The same thing has happened to Easter and Christmas also. The addition of secular customs to otherwise solemn religious observances was to make it more palatable to the common people. Modern Halloween customs are relatively late comers and probably evolved in the early 20th Century. Just Wikipedia Halloween for more accurate info.

A judge in Massachusetts ruled that a burrito is not a sandwich...do you agree or disagree?
Not a sandwich in the traditional sense - any more than an egg roll would be considered one. To me a sandwich is a filling (vegetable, protein, or both) in between two slices of some type of bread.

My mother did. When my father died, she received his Social Security check the next day. Unwittingly, she cashed it and put it in the bank account. A month later, the gov just took it out of the account without so much as a warning. Mom blamed the bank manager at that time for letting the feds take the money out and never spoke to her again.

The amount of the check is irrelevant. Just divide the amount you want to save in a year by the number of checks you receive in a year. So if you get a check every week, that is 52 checks and you want to save $2000, it's 2000/52 which is about $38.50.
