Is it okay to be a virgin at 16?
I'm a 52 year old divorcee. I was a virgin before I met my ex-wife. In the time since my divorce, I sowed my wild oats. WHAT A WASTE!!!!
I've now decided to be a born again virgin. Whether I meet anyone or not, I'm not going to be a sex hazard to anyone. If anyone else wants to mess up his or her life that way, they can. But I'm so much happier with myself now.

I'm 18 (born in 91, a teenager) but I prefer old movies (80s-early 90s) better than the stuff that comes out today. Is this normal?
Movies made in the 1980s and 1990s are not old. I like movies made before I was born. I don't consider them old unless the lines have to be read on cards (silent movie).
It's normal if you consider yourself to be a normal person.

Living in the Philippines I've never seen such explicit pad commercials. There is no stigma about men appearing in such commercials.
It's also difficult to find tampons, except in retail establishments that cater to foreigners.

Technically, a teenager (an English language phenomenon) is anyone between the ages of 13 and 19. Here in the Philippines they call anyone a teenager up to 21. That's strange because they finish high school two years before Americans. Many university students already have a master's degree at 21.

What do you do to help those in need?
It's best to give corporately in a way that helps the most people... feeding several people at once, RATHER than giving one person some small change. It's also good to have the resources to give menial minimum wage jobs to people who don't do anything except beg. They're great for doing boring jobs.

Have you ever been insulted by someone you refused to give spare change to?
Constantly. White skin is seen here in the Philippines as wealthy. I'm a white American so my "wealth" is often thrown in my face. They insult me in other ways, such as assuming I'm American by the fact that I'm white. That insults millions of other people, too.

In my seven years in the Army (1979-86) they kept trying to get me to join an Airborne regiment (for me, this was the band, since I was a musician in the Army) and jump out of a C-130 for $200 a jump. (They were going to pay extra for me to jump but I still didn't do it.)

Ed Wood was a famous (or infamous, rather) Hollywood film director who wore women's panties and a camisole fighting as an infantryman in World War II in the US Marine Corps. He was considered a hero but very, very weird.
Here in the Philippines if you wear women's clothing you are considered homosexual. I think this maybe due to a lack of local women and a lot of foreign men...

Answer to:
Why do some people put their headlights on during a clear dry day? Doesn't it disturb the driver in front?
In many places in the world (including some locations in the United States) it's the law. Some manufacturers put in those driving lights a few years ago. They help you be seen in the daytime.
Other places in the world, like Paris, France, ban the use of headlights at night. That's something I don't understand.

That's normal. The United States didn't consider anyone an adult until they were 21 until the early 1970s.
Vietnam is interesting with the laws of what an adult is. A woman is an adult at 18 (age changes here on January 1). For a man it's 20. So a high school twelfth grade class (at this time of the school year) is made up of women and boys.

I get those all the time. If you use Yahoo Mail, HotMail, or other mail service like that, send a copy to their administrator (click the button "This is Spam") and you shouldn't hear from that phisher again. However, you will hear from others.
I used to get twenty of those a week.

Why do some people try to be helpful here and say "Google your answer" when the questioner has probably tried to find what he/she needed on Google but couldn't find it?
I think it's like asking directions when you're lost. No one is just going to hand a struggling, lost motorist a road map and say, "Here, find your way out of here." You need to know where you are.
Once, when I was in the Army, I drove the equipment truck for the Fort Dix band from a gig we were playing at the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. Somehow, I...

Why would anyone want to work outside his/her home country?
Originally, I came here because of a girl. But I got a job here, lost it, got another job, lost it, and ended up working in an excellent position. I now feel that I have a mission here in Vietnam and I won't leave until I have done what I can do. My mission is teaching communication.

What's the best hotel in Henderson, NV?
I once thought it would be cheaper to stay in Henderson than Las Vegas. But the truth is, the better deals are in Vegas. Henderson still has gambling. It's not that far from the Strip to Henderson. Unless you plan to visit someone in Henderson and you don't want to drive your car, I'd stay in Vegas.

I read somewhere that in German toilets there is a stool where you go. This is so you can look and inspect (and I guess smell) you business before flushing. Is this true? Do you think this is a good idea?
I always thought of it as a shelf. Some doctor thought about this, I guess.
My Army barracks in Berlin, Germany, had toilets like these and they had the tiniest drains for toilets I have ever seen.

Is it too early for me to go to sleep?
At this moment, it's 8:38 am. Years ago I was the graveyard shift security guard at the Sunkist Orange Juice Plant in Ontario, California. I got off work at 8:00. I would probably be getting home right about now. I would make myself breakfast and go to bed about 9:00 or 9:15.
No... Depending on your circumstances, any time is a good time to go to sleep!

My bathroom is a typical Southeast Asian bathroom, meaning the entire compartment is a shower stall. I keep towels and washcloths in a closet outside. If you come visit and you want to use the shower, you're free to mix or match the towel and washcloth as you wish.

I've said it before in other threads, but we had a saying when I was in the Army: EVERY DAY IS MONDAY.
This is both negative and positive. Negative, because it stops the wonderful weekend you've been having. Positive, because there are new things to experience that you've never experienced before.

I ordered 204 Revolutionary War Soldiers.
What I expected and what I got were different. I expected something like the toy soldiers we would get at Woolworth's or W.T. Grant's. What I got was made out of hard plastic. Nothing could stand up... not even the cannons. And they were about 1/3 the size of the toy soldiers at the dime store.

Would you rather watch a movie at home or at a movie theatre?
In the theater, because that's where they were intended to be seen in the first place. And you get to meet other people before the movie and afterwards.
I watched these movies in a (revival) theater many years ago:
-Casablanca
-High Noon
-Gone With the Wind
-Ben Hur
-Thief of Bagdad (1924)
Those chariot races in Ben Hur are great in a theater.

Why do foreign restaurant chains exist, such as McDonald's, Jollibee, and Wienerwald? Is it because locals want them, they are for children, or the corporation wants to get more income?
Living in Vietnam, and not sheltered from the locals (as I have been in past foreign living situations), I think a lot of this comes from the locals asking for the food (and, no, it's not just expatriates like me who want it).
Hamburgers and pizza are very popular food items here. Supposedly, McDonald's will open in Hanoi sometime in April. While this might seem a little strange,...

In Vietnam, dial up only exists in rural areas that are not near an ADSL router. Most apartment buildings are on a LAN, which are extremely cheap.

I hear you. I am, too. Freudian psychology would say it has something to do with the way your mother treated you when it was just you and her sitting on the couch or riding in a bus or whatever. My mother would pick things and pop things on me when I was little. When she wasn't there, I would do it.
