Answer to:
Why does the price of postage stamps always go up?
There is a market for postage stamps, just like there's a market for any good. The US Postal Service (USPS) sets its price to maximize the "profit" it will earn. I put "profit" in quotations because it doesn't necessarily mean to make money. You could maximize profit by cutting a $200 per year loss into a $50 per year loss. By doing this, you would reduce the...

Answer to:
Is it "legal" for a country to invade another country?
That's an interesting question, because I think almost all invasions are illegal by UN standards.
But a law means nothing without enforcement, so this "law" really only applies if enforced, which it usually isn't. This is a problem with most international laws. There is no world police to enforce the laws, so they are generally weak.
So for the most part, I would...

Answer to:
Was Jesus crucified on a stake or a cross?
Nobody knows.
The Romans used both crosses and stakes in those days. And Acts 5:30 even says "The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a **tree**".
So it could be a cross, stake, or a tree. Unfortunately, we don't know if Jesus was crucified on a stake or a cross.

Answer to:
How do I know if the relationship I'm entering is one coming off the rebound?
I would just ask them.
You should find out:
How long have they been single?
Do they still miss or want their ex?
If you think they are on the rebound, you should probably keep things casual until they are over their ex.
Answer to:
What does it mean to be on the "rebound"?
A rebound is when someone enters a new relationship before getting over their ex. They actually use the new partner to help them get over the ex. Or as a temporary or surragate replacement.
Generally, rebounds are not healthy and do not work out well in the end. Most believe it's better to get over an ex before dating seriously again.
Answer to:
My fiance broke up with me. We had an awesome relationship, and now I don't think I can ever find someone like her again. How do I get rid of my fear and pain?
You'll have to get rid of your fear and pain just like every other relationship and every other pain you've had in your life. It sucks and it takes time, but you will get over it eventually.
Also, you might think you can never find someone "awesome" again, but I can almost guarantee that you can. And when you do, you'll wonder why you ever thought you...
Answer to:
If a runner standing on first base is hit by a batted ball, what is the correct call?
If the runner is on base, then there is no call. This would be no different than the ball hitting a rock or a base.
UNLESS the runner intentionally obstructed. In this case, the umpires would determine what would have happened without the obstruction, and call the outs accordingly.

Can a fielder be charged for an error on a pop-up that is dropped in foul territory?
10.13(a):
bq. An error shall be charged against any fielder when he muffs a foul fly, to prolong the time at bat of a batter whether the batter subsequently reaches first base or is put out.
Verdict: Yes

Runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. Infield pop up, the ball drops unintentionally. No infield fly call by Ump-all runners are safe. Can the umpire say "the batter is out" due to the infield fly rule when he never invoked it during the play?
Another tough one, but I think yes. Yelling "infield fly batter is out if fair" is a courtesy to the players and fans. It shouldn't matter much that the umpire does not yell the call.
Imagine when a runner is easily out at second on a double play. The umpire might not verbalize this out, because he might be focusing on the close call at first. The runner at second is...

Answer to:
If the runner on first attempts to steal second, the fielder applies tag with ball in glove before runner reaches second, ball pops out of glove on tag and fielder catches ball in left hand, then what should be the call?
That's a tough call, but I think the runner is safe. If the ball pops out while attempting a tag, then the tag is not completed. (This part would be umpire discretion whether the tag was completed).
Assuimng the tag was not completed, when the fielder catches the ball with his throwing hand, he would need to tag the runner with that hand/ball to complete the tag and get the runner...

Who invented fireworks and when?
Though many nations claim the invention, most historians agree that the Chinese invented fireworks in the 9th century when they discovered how to make gunpowder. The story is that a Chinese cook toiling in a field kitchen happened to mix three ingredients commonly found in the kitchen - potassium nitrate or saltpeter (a salt substitute), sulfur (a flammable solid) and charcoal (from charred...

I call my boyfriend at least three times a day - in the morning, going to work and coming home - but he only calls me sometimes. Is there any reason why he only calls once in a while?
I think he only calls you once in awhile because you call him so much. With you calling him so much, when would he have time to call you?
My girlfriend calls me often, but when she doesn't call so often, I end up calling her more.
Try not calling him so often, and maybe he'll call you more.

How can I, a simple citizen, write a law and get it enacted?
You, a simple citizen, can write a law and get it enacted in many states through a referendum.
First, you need to get a certain amount of signatures on a petition or pay a certain amount of money to get your law on the ballot (these amounts vary by state).
Once your bill is on the ballot, if a majority of the state votes yes, then your proposal will become a law (assuming it doesn't...

What is the safest way to gamble besides freestyle gambling?
This idea is only "safe" in the statistical sense, but it's an interesting idea.
First you make a bet. If you lose, you double your bet. If you lose again, you double your bet again. You can do this as many times as necessary. Once you win one bet, you will be back to even. Theoretically, you'd never lose. Of course, this is only true if you have infinite money.

Why is it so difficult to decide and implement international environmental laws?
It's tough to find a system that pleases everybody.
developing nations (2nd and 3rd world countries) feel that they can't become large and industrial if environmental restrictions are in place. The US and England polluted like crazy in the industrail revolution. They weren't able to be successful economically and protect the environment until AFTER they became established.

Answer to:
Can our landlord evict us because our grandkids are here all the time?
You don't have a lease? That's a bad thing. Without a legal agreement, I think he could evict you at anytime for any reason. He probably doesn't have to give a reason.
For future reference, never rent without a lease.
Answer to:
I am renting a house and had to pay the 1st month and security deposit when the contract was signed. Now my landlord is demanding rent for the first month again. Should we contact the police or a lawyer?
First, you need to talk with the landlord and make sure it's clear that you think you paid the rent already. If you go to your bank, you might be able to get a copy of the check you used to pay the landlord.
If he's still not convinced, then you'll want to mail him a letter telling him that you are not paying that month because you already paid it. Be sure to keep a copy...

Some say that President Bush caused the loss of American jobs in his 2000-2004 term. What evidence supports this?
Technically, every president causes the loss of some jobs, but it's the net total that matters (jobs created - jobs lossed).
At the end of 1999, 111,054,000 Americans were employed full-time. At the end of 2004, 115,117,000. (Source: US Bureau of Labor Statistics)
So technically, there was a net increase in jobs during President Bush's 2000-2004 term.
Some might say...
