How can I use plaster of paris to make a pinata?
Make the basic shape that you want out of various sizes and shapes of blown-up balloons. Use a little masking tape to hold the balloons together. Tear up strips of newspaper (it tears easily in one direction, but not the other). Mix the plaster of paris with water to the consistency of pancake batter. Dip the strips of newspaper in the PP and smooth them over the balloon shape. Make the...

My boxer bulldog has little bumps under her mouth and down her front legs and now she is starting to get them on her back legs , she stays inside most of the time. Should I be worried ?
It may be some kind of contact allergy. Cats often get pimples under their chin from eating out of plastic bowls. It can be fixed by feeding them from porcelain bowls.
Even if it's nothing serious, you should still be concerned for your dog's comfort. The best thing to do is to see the vet.

I moved two painted tetras into a new ten gallon tank with new water. I set up the tank about 5 days ago before putting them in. Should I do anything else?
You haven't given many details. Did you use dechorinator? Do you have a tank heater and filter system? Have you checked the levels of ammonia, etc?
A tank should really be set up and run for a few weeks and the water chemistry checked for safety before adding fish.
Note: Don't buy painted tetras or any other painted or dyed fish. Only 20% of these artifically colored fish...

My dog just ate something outside, not really sure what, and he has been vomiting ever since. Is there anything I could do to stop him from vomiting?
There's no telling what your dog may have found. Vomiting is a way of expelling something that shouldn't be there and keeps it from being digested and possibly poisoning the dog. The sooner you get the dog to the vet, the better.
Answer to:
If a starfish's leg was cut off, would it grow back?
Yes. In fact a starfish torn in half with both pieces containing a portion of the central disk will likely regrow into two starfish. Year ago, shell-fishermen thought they were killing starfish by tearing them up and throwing them back. They only helped to double the population of starfish that were preying on their shellfish.

Answer to:
Why do we have fingerprints?
Fingerprints, or "dermal ridges" are necessary for grip. If the skin on our fingers was completely smooth we would have a hard time keeping a grip on anything, especially if it is wet or our hands are sweaty.

How do goldfish reproduce, and is there anything I can do to encourage them?
Goldfish will usually spawn in the spring when the water temperatures rise and there are more hours of daylight. They prefer to spawn in heavily planted areas near the surface.
During spawning the male will vigorously chase the female and push her to the surface where they will release their eggs and milt together. The tiny, individual eggs will attach to whatever they touch.
I've...

Can I put real coral in a fresh water fish tank without killing the fish?
DO NOT use coral in a freshwater tank. Freshwater is much lower in minerals than saltwater and will slowly dissolve the coral, thereby changing the chemistry of the water. It will eventually kill the fish. Many corals are also very sharp and can injure fish when they dash around.
If you really want the look of coral, there are many places that sell plastic or resin replicas of coral that...

If most of the sweat glands are in the palms of our hands and the soles of our feet, why do we actually have more water running off the top of our heads?
Just a guess, but your hands and feet are constantly in contact with other things and air so the sweat is distributed almost as fast as it is produced. Your head is likely covered with hair that blocks the cooling breeze that would help evaporate the sweat.

Why do so many lottery winners complain that having all that money has ruined their lives?
We have had several local winners of various amounts of money and they all seem to have had a rough time ever since. Everyone they know seems to think they owe them something. When they go to dinner with friends they are always expected to pick up the bill, no matter how big or small. People who didn't even know them would find out they were winners and said they should buy a round of...

What is the origin of the phrase "mind your P's and Q's"?
When patrons in a pub would begin to argue about something, the bar tender would warn the other people to "Mind your own pints and quarts". In other words, mind your own business (your pint or quart of beer in front of you) and don't make the fight any worse.
Answer to:
Why can't most fresh water fish live in salt water and most salt water fish not in fresh water?
Just like any other creature on earth, animals have evolved and adapted to their environment. The ocean is quite huge and therefore a very stable environment. Salinity, pH, and minerals change very little in such a large volume of water hence the fish have become very intolerant of changes. Bodies of fresh water are much smaller and more easily affected by the surrounding land and weather....

How can I get rid of the smell of dog urine?
My cat had an accident and the odor came back every time it was humid. I bought a product from the local pet supply store. It contained a bacterial enzyme that digests urine. This product works on new and old stains. Multiple applications may be necessary. I think the bottle cost about $10 but it was well worth every penny.
If you are having trouble finding where the odor is originating,...

Each second a rabbit moves half the remaining distance from his nose to a head of lettuce 10m away. When does he get to the lettuce?
He'll never get there. If you continue to cut the distance in half, it can never be zero, but it will be infinitely small.
