Answer to:
Are there any suggestions as to fabrics that would work for a bedspread, that wouldn't show my cat's long fur and that her claws would not leave marks in?
I've found some microfiber blends to be remarkably resistant to clawing. Try a similar color to your cat.

What are the benefits and risks involved in fasting?
In my opinion, one should never fast for more than 24 hours. Food is the vital fuel our bodies need. It is not "the enemy." It is, however, our RELATIONSHIP to food and eating that sometimes needs to be adjusted.
Towards this end, I have found that fasting IN THE SHORT TERM (i.e. 8-24 hours), on occasion, can be helpful in reorienting oneself with one's natural body...

I'm seeing this person -- she's 21, and I'm 18. Is that 3 year age difference a big deal?
For her, at her age -- probably. Here's a neat rule of thumb I learned years ago. I like that it takes into account the natural differences in maturity levels between men and women:
For men, divide your age in half, rounding down to the nearest whole number, and add seven. The figure you arrive at is the minimum age of women you should date.
For women, divide your age in...

When did the U.S. first become involved in the Vietnam situation leading up to the Vietnam War?
I've read that the left-sympathetic OSS (Office of Strategic Services, precurser to the CIA), immediately following WWII, actually backed Ho Chi Minh. In the upheaval resulting from the dissolution of the OSS and the creation of the CIA -- and the ensuing swing towards the right -- this policy was sharply reversed, with the U.S. then backing the idea of setting France up with a colonial...

Runners @ 2nd & 3rd w/ 1out.Batter flies out to center field. Both runners tag up. Runner on 3rd tags up legitimately. Runner on 2nd left early. Umpire calls runner @ 2nd out on an appeal. Does the run count from the runner who tagged from 3rd?
The run from third counts. The third out is only official as of the throw over to second to appeal. Should the runner who left early realize at any point before this happens and return to second, he is safe.

Why is economics called the "dismal" science?
Economics, the science studying the allocation of limited resources which have alternative utility, is often referred to as the "dismal science" because it deals with the inherent, inescapable limitations and realities of the human condition. Scarecity relative to demand will always exist. Personally I find it quite facinating.

I received a minor traffic violation. The officer did not sign the citation and the vehicle code number on the citation is not legible. Is this grounds for dismissal?
Possibly. Any sort of procedural glitch can be grounds for dismissal. It depends largely on the judge, the caliber of the offense, and whether or not you have a lawyer representing you (which, unless you are connected somehow, usually costs so much
If you do choose to challenge the ticket, you can expect to miss all or part of two days of work (the first time you show up you generally...

Is President George W. Bush following Keyne's theories to overcome the U.S. recession?
As for FDR, interestingly enough, most of his New Deal programs were in place by the time of the publication of Keynes' book in 1936. FDR's REAL inspiration for most of his programs was the apparent success of syndicalism in fascist Italy during the 20's. It is, of course, politically incorrect to point this out.
Working as it is from Partial Equilibrium Theory, Keynsian...

I've noticed that comic books have jumped to almost $3 for a new issue. Why is it that the value of old comics is continuing to dwindle but prices of new comics are skyrocketing?
Pook's basic answer to the question is exactly right. The following digression into economics is not. Let's stay "on message," folks!

Who wrote the Star Wars series originally, and when?
Lucas was a pioneer and a visionary in the field of licensing. Inumerable facets of the Star Wars universe were under license by Christmas 1976. I picked Star Wars #1 of the rack in late March,1977. By the time I saw the movie that July (hey, I was seven...) I had most of the dialogue memorized. Most of the stuff in the new release was written by Lucas by that point, and select nuggets...
