Finding a man who appreciates my time restrictions and responsibilities to my children. If his kids are already grown, sometimes it's hard for him to remember what it's like to still have kids at home (or they lived with his ex and he never dealt with it). Either way, if he isn't on board with it - see ya.

I know a guy who is really mean to everyone. However, people say that he has a heart of gold so no one should let it get to them. What do you think? Should people be allowed to get away with things just because others think they have a heart of gold?
Someone who has a heart of gold would *not* be mean to everyone. And no, people shouldn't be allowed to get away with being mean - I always call them on it. Sometimes it helps just to be upfront and there's nothing positive about someone being mean....

Not in a violent sense. I had an ex b/f who would drive up and down my street, follow me in his car every once in a while, things like that. I confronted him on it and he stopped. No, I didn't like it at all even on that level. I can't imagine anyone would enjoy being spied on, followed - it's scary, unhealthy, and well....just plain wrong and creepy.

Well, I just had my first date with someone this week (we met on EHarmony) and we went to dinner at Longhorn. Why is everyone so rude these days? What happened?
Honestly, I think it started with the breakdown of the family unit. Both parents working full time to make ends meet, latch-key kids coming home to an empty house, busier schedules, etc. I don't think enough "family" time occurs anymore in order to talk, teach and learn from each other.

Did you have an unusual wedding, a quickie service or was it traditional?
I had a pretty traditional wedding, but we kept it simple. My bridesmaids dresses were ordered from a JC Penney catalog (tea length but very pretty) and cost around $40.00. I bought my dress off the rack for $300 (my mom thought that was really high back in 1988!). We did have a church ceremony with about 150 people at the wedding & reception. It was very nice but not over-the-top in any way.

I think I'd be afraid to travel anywhere in the Middle East based on what's going on there now. Other than that, there are some places I really have no desire to travel to, although I don't have any specific reasons for feeling that way. Just lack of interest I suppose.

I just bought a house, I will be moving soon, what is you advice on packing to make it less stressful? I will be closing on it by May 2, help with ideas to make this a smooth transition for everyone that lives with me.
If you have children, I'd ask them to get involved in the process. I'm a single mom of 3 and when I moved from our last house to the one we have now, I gave a little "demo" for the kids on the proper way to pack (non fragile items of course). Then I gave them boxes and let them each pack up their own stuff, label the boxes, etc. This allowed them the time to sort through...

What is the best pet?
Either a dog or cat. It's harder to do things when you have a dog (leave town, etc) but with a cat you can leave food and water for a couple of days and not worry about it, thanks to the litter box. However, I have both and love them both.
Answer to:
I'm heartbroken - We have to have my dog put down. He's become unpredictable and aggressive - he attacked the 12 year old dog, unprovoked, this morning. I'm heartbroken, but I have my baby coming soon. My friends are calling us murderers. Are we wrong?
Have you tried to find him a home where no children are present? Maybe an older adult, or single adult who can handle the agression? I think all options should be considered and explored before ever putting an animal down.

My 13 year old son has just been brought home by the police and cautioned for shoplifting. What would be the best way to punish him, caning his bare backside with willlow or making him survive on water alone for two days?
Hopefully you're just being sarcastic about your suggestions because you're upset.....that would be horrible and inhumane. If this happened to my son, I would take him back to the store and have him apologize to the manager/owner. I'd also request that he be allowed to do work for free there - sweeping the floor, stocking shelves, etc. Hopefully this would restore his reputation...

My first thought is that 3 or 4 days may not be enough time to decide what her feelings are. How did she come up with that time frame? If you care about her, give her the time she needs to think, but be prepared for it to go either way when she tells you she's made a decision. Quite possibly, she'll come back after 3-4 days and tell you that she needs more time...Good luck!

Isn't it about time you took your parents out to a nice dinner?
Actually, my daughter and I are taking my dad to dinner tonight. We go out at least once a week and we see my dad every other day - the days we don't go out I cook dinner at his home for all of us. I live only 2 minutes from my parents, and I take extra special care of my pops since my mom passed away.

My husbands best friend has been coming on to me for years. We had a brief sexual relationship, but it is WRONG. I want to end it for good. He calls me (don't answer) and comes around (I avoid him) What to do?
If this "best friend" of your hubby has been coming on to you for years, what makes you think your husband doesn't already suspect something happened between the two of you? Just thinking out loud....Let this guy know you mean business - NO is NO - you made a mistake but let him know it will NOT happen again. If you can live with hiding this from your husband, best of luck to...

My hair is mid-length I guess. My longest layer is about an inch from my bra strap in back. I've always worn it this length with the exception of about 13 years ago when I got it cut short (chin length). I hated it! In my opinion it made me look much older than I was, and I was very uncomfortable with losing the length. I wear it this way for "me".

I think it's very inconsiderate of your b/f to let your ex tag along for things if he knows that you and your ex are not cordial. I'd be honest with your b/f and make sure he's clear on where you stand on this issue. If he keeps doing it, take that as a sign of disrespect for your feelings. Isn't it a bit uncomfortable for your ex as well? Or does he get a little bit of joy...

Why do some mothers state their babies age in months when they are over a year old? Example my cousin said her baby was 22 months old instead of a year and 10 months.
I guess people think it makes their babies sound younger & cuter for a longer time. Personally, I think it's stupid and always told my kids' ages in years & months after they were past the 12 month mark.

I want to mail a letter, its got to be a surprise. I know where she lives, the town, the street, the exact location on mapquest. But I dont have the street number or postal code. Any ideas on finding the street number? So I can then find postal code.
Try www.whowhere.com or www.whitepages.com
Since you know the town & street, check for property records on the Auditor's website for that county (if she owns a home she'll be listed).
Once you have the street # find the zip code on the US Postal Service site: www.usps.com

If I ever get married again I don't even want an engagement ring. I'd rather just have a nice band. As far as the expense of the ring, I wouldn't want him to spend any more than he could afford - I'm not much into material things so the size of the ring or price tag doesn't really matter to me. A plain band would do the trick for me just fine.

Please, don't give up on him! Sounds like he's reaching out for help though he'll probably never admit it (maybe he doesn't even realize it himself yet). Since his bio father is mentally unstable, it might be a reasonable assumption to consider he may have inherited a bit of this chemical imbalance, which paints a whole new picture about why he behaves the way he does (if...

Please do not go back to him! Verbal abuse is NOT, I repeat NOT, OK! I'm going to try to find one of my other answers that addresses this - I was in the same boat as you. Exactly. Believe me, I couldn't see/accept how wrong it was until I got OUT of the relationship. I will never put myself in a similar situation again. Ever. I am worth more than that. And so are you. DON'T...

Kind of. My daughter thinks he looks like Jessica Alba in the face - like they could be siblings. I'm not sure I see that, but I think his behavior was a little more intense than Sanjaya's.

A friend of mine told me his homemade salsa was "mild" because I hate spicy food. He actually gave me the wrong bowl and I hate his extra-hot salsa that he made. My eyes were watering, my nose was running and I felt like my throat had flames shooting through it. It was horrible. Of course, he thought it was hilarious!

Answer to:
You are 50. You get a letter from someone you have not seen since school. They explain, without invading your privacy, that they have always loved you deeply. They ask to buy you lunch, NOT as a date. They seek closure. What do you do?
I would ask to have a conversation with that person on the phone first to hear the tone in his voice and get a better feel for what he's really wanting from me. If I didn't get the creepy vibe, I'd definitely meet with him. I know what it feels like to need closure, so I'm more sensitive to it and would try to accommodate.

Haa! Good question. I have 2 ex-b/fs right now who would like to get back together but I'm not interested in either. There is, however, someone I'd love to date who I know as only an acquaintance, but he's involved with someone and therefore, in my opinion, is completely off-limits. He has no idea - it's just a little crush I have on him. Totally innocent. How depressing now...

I would give him as much space/time as YOU are comfortable with, and no more. Look out for yourself as well as considering his feelings. Were you, yourself molested sexually as a minor child, or do you know, personally (ie not just online) someone who was? I do not want details.
A very good friend of mine was molested for years by her father. I didn't know her then, but she confided in me after we met as adults. Horrible.

Would it bother you if you broke up with your partner, and they stared seeing or dating someone else just days after you broke up?
Nope. Once a couple breaks up, they're free to date whoever they want, as soon as they want. In fact, I think it's wise to move on whenever it feels comfortable to do so.

I was just thinking about something similar last night!! Weird that your question popped up now! It boggles my mind - every time I pray I get extremely tired and sleepy. What is a good way of meeting people when you have just moved to a big city?
Try www.meetup.com ~ It's NOT a dating site but they do have singles groups. I joined it in my city for dining out groups, movie groups, etc. I think there's a group for just about anything you can think of. No cost to join, no pressure - just people organizing various interest groups so you can definitely find friends with similar interests. It's a great site.

Which is more important, Communication and trust or Attraction and lust?
I think all 4 things you mentioned are important, but communication and trust, for me, would be the most important combination. If I can't communicate with my partner, and if I can't trust him, then I don't think I'd be attracted to him anyway....one follows the other.

My son is the same way! He's been like that since he was a baby ~ just very uncomfortable with physical contact in general unless it's on his terms. He's 14 now ~ for years I've asked his permission to give him a hug or kiss on the cheek or something. Sometimes he's fine with it, other times he says "Please, not right now." Whats some slang that you (or people near you) use, that may not be used nation wide?
Here in Cincinnati, instead of "Pardon?" or "Excuse me?" when we want someone to repeat something we say "Please?". It's confusing to those not from this area. I was in Florida and said that and the clerk in the store said "You must be from Cincinnati!". Weird. It might be a midwestern thing, but it really throws people off in other areas.

A good friend of mine is having a B-day party and has asked that people bring a dish to share. Some people are taking offense at this and refusing to bring anything. I think this is incredibly rude, thoughts?
I think it's rude to take offense to that. I mean, when someone opens up their home for me (for a party, gathering or whatever) I always bring something whether I'm asked to do it or not. It's just good manners and shows appreciation.

You betcha! I have an ex-boyfriend who I mistakenly stayed with for way too long - he constantly made me feel bad about myself and tried to control me. Long story short, I got my senses and self esteem back and gave him the boot. Gone....and gone forever as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, I guess I would say I'm picky. I'm 43 and have been divorced for 3 years now. I don't want to settle for middle of the road when it comes to a relatonship - I want it all! I want that true inner peace that comes with finding the "right" person. So far that has eluded me, so I'm still single, still unhappy and still picky. Don't know if that's a good...

I've heard people say that an unborn baby isn't alive until they are born (as a justification of abortion). If this is true, do you think they would be distressed if someone intentionally killed their unborn child, or would it not matter to them?
If a baby isn't "alive" from conception, then how do people explain that this child continues to grow? If there is no baby, there would be no need to terminate a pregnancy. Make sense? Having said that, if someone truly believes that a baby isn't alive until it is born, then it would be hypocritical for that person to be upset if that baby is killed before birth. Either way,...
