What's the oddest name for a town you know of? My favorite is Likely, CA.
Many place names that appear odd to English-speakers are from other languages. Often they are innocuous in their own tongue. Well known examples of this are the French town of Condom, the Austrian village of Fucking and the town Hell in Norway.

I haven't heard this, but if so, I don't like the delay. However, both he and Obama are Senators and have constituencies that elected them that should receive representation on the issue. To do so intelligently requires some time and effort.

It appears he had an emotional, if not sexual, affair with his 2nd wife prior to the legal dissolution of his first marriage. Generally, I couldn't care less what a candidate's personal romantic behavior is prior to election - particularly if, as in this case, it occurred nearly 30 years ago, and more particularly if the candidate is currently married to the individual.

Good question - + 3 (all I can give). I will either abstain or vote for McCain. I don't condemn Bush's policies, but I think some of his policies were very ill advised - primarily related to Iraq. Soooo popular? Are you talking about the perception many have due to the media and entertainmemt crowd? The polls look pretty close to me. Both of them are lightweights when it comes to my opinion of what a President should be. I'll select one, but it certainly won't be based on "popularity".

Disagree. Most Mom's I've met aren't as stupid and/or naive as Sally Field. Any intelligent mother understands that protecting their young could, at some point, require killing an enemy.

If you had a precocious elementary-schooler that you babysat (or at a daycare center you manage), whom you couldn’t physically discipline because s/he would know to call Child Protective Services on you, how WOULD you deal with such an unruly child?
Assuming (rightly or wrongly) that his/her behavior merited physical discipline, I'd tell the parents to come pick up their POS child, and that the kid is no longer welcome at the facility.
Assunimg the child is not psychotic, I'd use the skills I was taught and have learned as a parent to quell the negative behavior prior to amy necessity for physical punishment.

I'd say the OC (Gort cringes) probably has more kids and women who are attractive, self-centered, egomaniacal and vacuous than most other areas of the world so there is more than a grain of truth in the stereotype. How much money is usually charged above the mortgage payment in a rent-to-own agreement?
The amount is negotiable. Lender's will typically consider any amounts above true market rent as down payment credit when you apply for a loan.
Be careful of this type of arrangement. Generally a Lease/Option to Buy is a more favorable way to structure the deal from the Buyer's perspective. If the Seller won't agree to a Lease Option, I would suggest you make the market rent...

If I was evicted, given 30 days to move out, do I have the pay the rent for those 30 days?
In my opinion, you are ethically responsible for the payment. Legally, you are obligated to pay. The landlord will likely retain any deposit up to the amount owed. If that doesn't cover the rent, he/she/they may or may not sue you for any remainder that might exist. You may also be responsible for any damages over and above reasonable "wear and tear."

I would contact the OC County Recorder's office for corroboration, but I do not believe you need to be married in the county, but it must occur within the state. Which tax form do I use if I am a single parent
Tax form usage is not predicated whatsoever on marital status. If you are talking about earned income tax credit, all forms may be used, but use caution if you plan to use 1040-EZ. There are specific requirements that apply to that form - whether or not you are claiming an earned income tax credit. My best advice - always consult a professional tax preparer for questions regarding tax filing.

Do you agree that it is selfish to ask for joint custody of your children during a divorce just to keep from paying child support?
Joint custody does not preclude paying child support. While the amount of child support may be less or even nothing for someone who has joint custody, it is largely based on income differential. In the unlikely event that the only purpose for requesting joint custody is to reduce or eliminate child support, then yes, it is probably selfish. However, under most circumstances it is more selfish...

Is it inappropriate for a married person to have a heterosexual friend of the opposite sex?
Knowing human nature fairly well, while it may not be inappropriate, it probably isn't a great idea. If one is going to have an opposite sex "friend", it would be best to maintain and grow that friendship only in the presence of one's spouse.

I think nature(mostly) and nurture (much less so) both play a role in one finding a member of the same sex sexually desirable. One makes the decision on whether or not to act on that proclivity, in large part, on cultural mores and taboos or the absence thereof.

Should bartenders be held responsible for the sctions of their consumers?
About 80% of US states have such laws that stem from the theory of "Dram Shop Liability". In my opinion, if a bartender knows or should know that an individual is intoxicated, and as a result the intoxication is the proximate cause of a criminal act, then the Bartender should also face arrest and punishment as a matter of public policy.

Probably Alaska since that is the only state I haven't visited (I plan to go next year). My primary home is in Laguna Hills, California. Within California, you can experience pretty much everything that any other state offers.

Absolutely. You might be ticketed for several things, up to and including reckless driving. Typically, that offense, to be prosecutable, would be for driving under the influence of an "illicit" or illegal drug.

The overt act of sex with someone else when you are in a serious relationship, in my opinion, is morally reprehensible. Being in love, rather than infatuated, with another while one is already in a relationship requires further inquiry to determine relative morality. More than likely, if it is mature love, there were likely several small "betrayals" before love blossomed.

Could the seemingly endless war in IRAQ potentially bankrupt the USA?
Nitroduck,
Good blog! Your article on the beloved Presidents was, of course, on target - I'm sure much to the disdain of the infidels - LOL! Quick point - Although you say "a league of nations" in that article, you might consider using "United Nations" instead so as to not confuse readers with the "League of Nations" that followed WW1. Probably not. But, then again, not many would take the time to look at his footwear, and fewer stll would know that they were fancy name brand shoes. Besides, they were likely gifts, and although he is German and actually lives in Vatican City, both shoe companies are Italian and the Pope and Italy are like a soup and sandwich.

Is it legal for a seller to change the purchase amount on "the offer to purchase and contract", after the buyers agree on price. How can theyu do that legally?
I can think of only two such scenarios. One, if as part of your acceptance, you included an item that was not appurtenant(not legally permanently affixed to the property), e.g. a Baby Grand Piano in the living room that was not included as part of the price in the listing. Even if you agreed to the listing price, in such a case, your signing of the offer would be a counter-offer under law....

My mortgage co. changed my due date on my house payment without my consent. When they did this , it resulted in us owing 2 payments within a weeks time. They changed it from the 29th to the 1st. making me owe a payment 3 days later! Was that legal?
Perhaps. It is likely regulated by state law. Even so, assuming you made your payment for the 29th due date, the first payment for the new date, the 1st, should have reflected only 3 days interest. Home loan interest is collected in arrears, e.g., a February payment is for January's interest on a loan.

It depends on the type of loan applied for and the sophistication of the Lender. If the loan is FNMA or FHLMC eligible, it could take as little as 5 minutes subject to an approved appraisal and proof of down payment.
Banks also do "portfolio" loans that they retain on their books. In that case 24 hours is reasonable.

Family Guy appeals greatly to my personal sense of humor. I can see where others would disagree. Certainly not a show for those < 13.

I have always wanted to visit California, pref, the bay area, any cheap ideas?
There are some good deals near Union Square which is somewhat the center of tourist accomodations in SF. I'd go on expedia.com and see which hotels in combination with airfare are the least expensive. Then, I'd likely book the airfare and hotel seperately unless you get a package deal you find acceptable.

Answer to:
You keep hearing about the current bed-bug epidemic, does this make you leary of staying in hotels now?
Actually, a very good question. In the past, I have had the tendency to look positively on a hotel based on low cost. Hey, I'm only sleeping there - most of the time, I'll be out and about. Now I always ask to see the roon even if I'm staying at a Westin or Hyatt. Certainly no guarantee even with a visual inspection, but my g/f and I make a decision after a site inspection. Who...

Why is the media keeping Dennis Kucinich out of the debates? And since when did the media decide which candidates are in and which are out?
There comes a point in the election cycle where it is clear certain candidates do not have a snowball's chance to win. In order for a more in-depth debate to occur those on the periphery (generally less than 5-10%)are ultimately excluded.
"someguy" also has a valid point. The debates occur at network expense and they are free to determine the ground rules and who appears. If...

Answer to:
Give brief descriptions of the following: i). charismatic authority ii). traditional authority iii). legal authority
Not sure if this is what you are seeking, but I see authority here as perhaps akin to leadership/power. Charismatic authority/leadership would be fairly self-evident (JFK/Obama as examples). Traditional authority/leadership would be indicative of an elected or chosen leadership based on competence or the perception of such. Legal authority/leadership would be based on familial succession or...

Answer to:
What was you first job?
Mowing lawns and raking leaves in the 60's. I was 9 or 10. Teaching me responsibility, I remember my Dad taking me to a local store and I bought a new Lawnmower on credit. Although not legally obligated (under 18), the owner of the store had me sign the contract. I made payments of $8 per week for 8 weeks. Good lesson and a good memory.

There is a pretty cool train trip in New Zealand called "The Overlander" that goes through some mountain areas. It's approximately a 12 hour journey through the heart of the North Island, traveling between Auckland -New Zealand's largest city, to Wellington - New Zealand's arts and culture capital.
Along the way, you'll pass the Central North Island ski towns...

If you are renting a house could you try to buy the house and how would you go about doing it.
Obviously the owner must be willing to sell. Do you have a down payment, good credit,a steady, reliable job? If so, and you can negotiate a price that you both agree upon (you should get a comparable market analysis from a totally independent Realtor and/or an independent fee appraisal from a truly disinterested Appraiser) then apply for a loan. If not, you might contract on a Lease Option to...
