Intel, by leaps and bounds with the core2 platform, and the corei7. New quad core amds tend to run slower, and more erratic than Intel Core Duos. Esp in gaming performance. Now the Opteron is slightly better than the Xeon, but Xeons last longer.

Id scrap AMD for a Core i7(it's a bit pricy, but sooooo worth it.) But onto the question. You want to locate the retaining clip(Im assuming AMD factory cooler) flip the lever up, and gently unclip the heatsink(the metal thing with fins) and GENTLY lift the heatsink off, you might have to be...

Intel Core i7 based on the new Nehalem Microarchitecture. I have the low end model, and it simply screams. It plows thru in gaming performance my Phenoms. Make sure to snap a good graphics accelerator with it. You need the 1366 motherboard, and depending on ur current one, Id up the powersupply....
