Those hard yet chewy, shaped like a barrel and striped like a circus tent things you find in 80 year old lady's houses will do well to answer this. Never see them at a store, so assume either they get them at an old ladies store somewhere, or there was a sale on them in 1944 and they really stocked up and are nearing the end of their supply.

Do you feel they should do away with medicare, medicaid and social security in the US?
Been singing that song for decades. Do away with all entitlements and things that have nothing to do with infastructure, defense/protection/military, and a flat tax no higher than 15%. If the private industry could do it, it should -- and will, better and more efficiently.

What's the worst place to visit in America?
Chicago. Everywhere you turn, those who run the city want to tax this and that. They actually wanted to charge you six dollars everytime you went into the loop area, and to park there you have to take out a third mortgage (the second would be for one night downtown, dinner, and an event like a sports game or theater.) And, ya know, if ya been to one big city, it's like ya been to them all.

In an ideal democracy should parents be free to send their children to a denominational school (e.g. Jewish, Catholic, Muslim, etc.) and have them indoctrinated in the family religion, or should all schools be non-denominational?
In an ideal world, all schools should be private, not a dime of taxpayer money going to them, and the parents could then choose the ones they believe are best suited for their child. The bonus is, taxpayers who don't use the school system aren't on the hook to pay for somebody elses kids education. Here's a motto to live by: If it could be privatized, it should be privatized.

Is it ok if i never fight with anyone?
OK if you want everybody else to make every decision for you. You're at a restaurant, and order a burger. The waitress brings you crab salad instead, and you are allergic to shellfish. If she insists you did order it, do you accept and eat, or do you do what you could to get your delicious burger with the works? Keep in mind, not all fights are of a physical nature.

I need help getting a LOT of candlewax that spilled out of a carpet. The more I use the "steam iron and blot" method, the more the wax spreads to other areas of the carpet. Any other suggestions?
Not sure if this would work, but may want to consider letting the wax cool and harden, then comb or brush out the hardened wax. Just an idea, is all. Good luck.

Not everyone is, but those who are probably do it for an escape from their own life temporarily. Getting obscessed with a celebrity seems no different than getting obscessed with a sports team or cars or building houses with a deck of cards or reading a good book.

Why do some people spend one-third of their life attending school?
Maybe some aren't confident in their own abilities to learn on their own, and need to pay for that extra push that most don't need. Nothing is wrong with spending your whole life going to school if that's what you desire, but learning never stops for anyone, and some are more able to learn on their own while others may lack that confidence.

I haven't, didn't need to. But since the baseball season ends at the end of August, will unintentionally cut costs by not going to every game. Hockey season starts in November, thinking of season tickets there, so an offset may be in the future.

Have you backed out of anything using the excuse, "No, I'm too old for that"?
All the time. And come age 55, I'll be officially too old to work, and RETIRE. Under 15 years and counting, my employer is well aware of this, and he has plenty of time to find a replacement. Too bad it falls on a leap year, so that's one more day to work. My birthday, however, falls on a Friday, and what better way to start retirement than with a long weekend!!!

Nah, it's not a big menu item around here, and have no idea which restaurant, if any, prepares such a dish. I can't go to New Orleans, because their mayor made it clear he doesn't want people like me in his town, so the odds of my sampling the seafood are a longer shot than the winner of the 2009 Kentucky Derby.

As much as anyone else who had made mistakes, like by attacking American civilians living in a compound, waging war on east African countries, doing nothing when American soils and interests get attacked over and over again, or granting pardons to members of terror organizations to try and influence a certain segment of the population to do ya a favor back.

Childbirth alone was about a $7,000 out of pocket expense, when it is all said and done. That seemed cheap compared to all the rest of the expenses that occur throughout the first years. Formula isn't so cheap. I'm not sure how that would ever change an opinion, you accepted a date to go to a place where you may not like their banner menu item, but are aware of other selections which meet your taste. Afraid of what? Sitting next to someone who has built up a little personal wealth for themselves. The first time that rating came about was with Napoleon, when he came out of exile and returned to France. Hard to say. His OKing, and personally picking out the route, of the first transcontinental railroad sure did, in todays standards, a lot of harm to the environment. Personally, I never judge anyone by the wages they make usually because I have no idea how much they make (and it's none of my business), but will judge by the quality of work and work ethic while performing said job, regardless of the...

No, it cuts down on reading time. I watch very little TV anymore, anyway, and would rather read. This goes for books that were made into movies -- the director never sees it how I do.

If it's a private shelter, they are allowed to make their own rules. Expecting something for nothing could be why they are homeless in the first place, and enabling them further in this practice is productive to nobody.

Does minor league games count? If so, than no. I'm not a ball chaser, though I did get one once in 2006. It rolled right to me, I just stooped, picked it up, and heard a group "aaawwwwww" from the crowd of chasers. I still have that ball.

Have you ever had to pay a overdraft fee?
Nope. I don't have a checking account, and don't need one. Paying bills is so much easier when you don't have to work it like it's a second job. Get a bill, pay that bill the same day. Nothing hard about that, and 100% guaranteed to not only never pay an overdraft fee, but also never pay late fees.
Answer to:
Do you like it when people randomly start talking to you? Why or why not?
Hate it. Is why I rarely, if ever, say back "How are you doing?" and generally nod and mumble for an answer. No matter, though. If someone does persist on opening a conversation, they usually find out we have nothing in common within 30 seconds and cease at that revelation. Their name is usually forgotten well before that point.

Do you think that a vice-president should be selected by the public through the primary process rather than being the sole and autocratic choice of the president candidate, or do you think it makes no difference? What's your take on this?
Both candidates used to be selected by the party itself, and many times the Presidential nominee and VP nominee hated each other, and won and had to serve each other (Garfield and Arthur). The whole primary election, which is purely suggestive, is a somewhat new process. I do like the idea of the nominee then choosing his/her running mate. If you count movies set in Chicago but actually filmed in Toronto as foreign, then yes.
Actually, a long, long time ago, I probably watched every foreign movie the local video rental place had on their shelves. Always got a kick when they spoke for, like, 25 seconds, and the subtitle said "OK, I will." If that's a true translation, there really are some lackadaisical...

Why would any American citizen refer to Senator Obama as Hussein?
It's his name. Not unlike William Jefferson Clinton, Ronald Wilson Reagan, John Sydney McCain, or even -- get this -- Willard Mitt Romney. Some are comfortable with their middle names and use it as a primary name, some are indifferent, and some try to hide their middle names. For the record, my middle name is James -- not that anyone cares, of course.

Should every citizen of Planet Earth be granted a basic human right: not to be made to bear arms against their will under any circumstances?
That's a basic human right? Anyway, yes, you are right. Anyone who decides they don't wish to carry a weapon shouldn't be forced to. One the flip side, if I am a responsible person with no criminal past, and follow the rules applied to weapons ownership, I also should be allowed to carry a weapon if I so desire.

In all fairness, Mr. Obama is now a US Senator, no longer a State Senator. He and Senator Durbin help run America, not Illinois. That's almost an impossible task to accomplish. In a real Democracy, all would have an equal vote, majority would win, always. Say a community has a population of 5, three men and two women. One man puts a motion to have group 'relations' with the two women, it was seconded by another man. It gets voted on, it passes three to two.

I heard a professor comment that the majority of what passes for news these days is really only gossip. He wasn't just referring to tabloids, but to news that is often considered "respectable". Agree or disagree, and why?
Any news story that says stuff like "alledged," "unnamed sources," or other hint that these aren't actual facts (yet) but just accusations, or at least unconfirmed to be true, would qualify, at the moment anyway, to be more in the rumor than the news category. Let us all not forget what happens when unproven news is reported, good examples are Richard Jewel and those...

Wear what you want, just save the big speeches about how comfortable it is and how every guy should be wearing them. I wear a baseball cap all day, and never try to talk others into wearing attire I choose to wear, so am just asking for the same respect in return.

I don't really have the money to buy a Halloween costume this year, so I am going to have to be creative and use what I have around the house. Do you have any ideas?
You ever see that old Honeymooners episode where Ralph did this. He put together a costume made from old sink, dresser, and door parts, and some pots and pans. He thought he was the man from space, but the costume judges thought he was a pinball machine. In the end, Ed ran in wearing his sewar worker gear, and won first prize for being the man from space. Classic!!!

Answer to:
Would you be in favour of US Presidents being able to serve an unlimited number of terms of office rather than the current limit of 2 4-year terms? Why or why not?
I'm not too hip on term limits. They may have been good when the Party Officials selected the candidates, but now that we have Primaries to at least help in the selection, the people should choose whether or not they would like this President for yet another term. Yes, this could have meant another President Bush term, but it also could have meant a third President Clinton term. The...

Freedom of speech doesn't guarantee publishing, distribution, or shelving and sale of any and all books. On that, I do believe certain books should be banned from certain places. My gas and electric are on the same bill. The lowest was maybe about 60 or 70 bucks, the highest was a slap under 300 smacks. We save in the summer to make up for the winter increase. Preparation is so helpful on so many levels.

What have you wasted the most time on in your life?
My mostly unpopular, and likely DR flying, answer would be the bit over a decade I spent waiting for the Government to swoop in and help me become something. It wasn't until I decided to fend for myself and not wait for some Govermental hero that I was able to become something in life. I got tired of hearing all about how the Government will come and help, and decided to help myself....

I'm in high school. One of my teachers is voting for Obama and my mom's voting for McCain. Mom wants me to convince her otherwise, but I say my teacher's political opinion is not my business. My mom shunned me and said "I don't understand you." Thoughts?
If this was a Social Studies or other type of political science class, and the teacher is openly stating she is voting for Senator Obama and explain why, you have every right to debate her back. Actually, come to think of it, if this teacher is stating her political views, no matter the class, you have every right to challenge her opinions even if it is math class.
Or, in other words, if...

Why are over 90% of black Americans democrats? Weren't the Republicans the ones who championed civil rights in the 1960s?
And 1860s. Let's remember who was on which side of the Civil War. To be fair, though, there were Democrats who sided with Republicans on the slavery issue. Not near a majority, but many did.

Take up the ukulele. Really, a nice starter one costs about 15 -25 bucks, and a beginner lesson book is about 8 or 10 smacks. I did this about 7 or 8 years ago, and am pretty good at the uke -- if I do say so myself. ;-)
Answer to:
Does McCain really feel that Obama is a "decent family man" and is nothing to be afraid of as US president or has he just realized that the lies spread by his campaign caught fire and could come back to bite him in the ass?
I can't speak for Senator McCain, but I do believe also that Senator Obama is a decent family man, and if he wins the Presidency, we shouldn't fear. It could be four short years until he's voted out, if not removed before then. We survived the Presidencies of Jimmy Carter, FDR, Franklin Pierce, and Andrew Johnson, so one more less than qualified President shouldn't kill...

Answer to:
Was McCain's defence of Obama the right thing to do, or should he be trying to win?
Doing the right thing should be standard for all politicians, and it has nothing to do with trying to win an election. It would be wonderful if all politicians would correct some of the lies their supporters say about the opponent and explain that, yes, while we are competitors in this thing, it's not like he/she is a bad person and we should hate the opponent.

Truthfully speaking,do you vote based on emotion, such as in order of vote the one you don't like out, family heritage voting trends ,peer pressure, follow the majority of voters choices in your state,or do you try to study the issues?
My dad and I disagree on most everything political, so that family heritage thing is out. My way is I look at an issue, or more whatever, decide my personal point of view, then see which candidate is more like my opinion. Or, basically, I don't see which politician I agree with, I try to see which agrees with me and vote accordingly.

McCain got booed today at a rally when he defended Obama as a" decent family man, good citizen."".nothing to fear if Obama became president". Another woman called Obama an "Arab"..McCain corrected her immediately. His supporters turned on him. Now what?
I admire him for defending the opponent, setting facts straight, standing his ground, and still putting on a honorable campaign despite a supporter or two not liking what he had said. I'd be equally impressed if Senator Obama reacts the same way to slams and slurs to the McCain campaign made by his supporters.

Hate the idea. Government needs to step back, not get more into, the private sector. A little regulation and oversight isn't entirely a bad thing, but complete control is. I'm doing in life exactly what I wanted to do since I was a kid of single number age in 1978. Not sure if I'm ahead, behind, or somewhere in the middle, and don't care. My goals are accomplished, the line never existed, and I done it without lying, stealing, or murdering.
Answer to:
Freud believed that a person's basic character is formed by age 5. Do you think your "basic" character has changed since childhood?
Just because Freud said something hardly means that it's true. Yeah, my "basic" character changed since five. Maybe he thought that way because Freud obviously had the mind of a child.

" Easy does it..calm down..don't worry..you're fine. Trust us..we know what's best for you"! Yeah, right. I don't buy it..do you?
"Ask now what your country could do for you, ask what you could do for your country." No, wait, it should be more like...
"Ask not what your country could do for you, ask what youu could do for yourself -- then do it!!" Better. Much. much better.

Used to all the time. Would sit at the end of the bar and read my book while downing a few. Was a favorite reading place, just like the ball park.

Democrats, are you planning a celebration after Obama's victory?
If that happens, I will sell all in my accounts, cash out, and hide it all. I ain't going to be poor again, and will hang on to all I worked very hard to make and keep these past some years.

Losing my job in in 1994 or so and watching my home get destroyed by a tornado forcing us to sleep in the back of a puck up truck for a touch wasn't a bag of peanuts. We got ourselves turned around and are doing well now.

Will hold off the celebration until the votes are counted and concessions are made. Then, no, celebrate isn't the right word. Continue living, possibly, is more the right phrase.

Is Bruce Sprinsteen a great American?
He's a sub-standard "singer" who somehow found fame despite lack of vocal talent, not unlike Johnny Cash, Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, and, of course, Bob Dylan.

Answer to:
Do you think that people with harder and/or more stressful jobs get better pay?
The should. Those who say that they're "going to work" should get paid more than those who say "Welp, off to the office for the rat race." If your job is basically sitting in some sort of fancy cushioned chair and refusing to lift something over three pounds, you should get paid least. Or, more simply put -- minimum wage for minimal work. Doing math as an accountant...

If an adult 30+ does not have a high school diploma, does that automatically cause you to have less respect for them and their opinions?
Of course not. I have less respect in the opinions of some college student/graduate who automatically thinks that they're better than others for that lame fact alone. A lot of us read books, but a lot of us see no reason to pay someone $100,000 to tell us what books to read then explain to us what we have just read. I could understand on my own what I have read, and it costs nothing....

Do you have a Fixed Mortgage Rate or a Variable Mortgage Rate? If its Fixed what is it?
My house is fixed. Used to be adjustable, but got that changed after it adjusted. The mortgage guy cheesed me, though. I though we negotiated a 7% interest rate, and when the papers came through, it was actually fixed at 7.01%. He said that it was so little and it really didn't matter, and I said if that were the case, it would be fixed at 7%. That .01% times however many mortgage...

Do you believe in banning books in a public library?
A library could hold only so many books. When new ones are pubished, some must be taken from the shelves to make room for the new ones. That wouldn't count as "banninng." But, yes, some books should be banned, of course. One of those anarchist cookbooks are a good example. I also believe the books should be rated, much like movies, and kids should have cards with parental...

Do you feel that emotion has no place in politics?
No. Emotion is passion, passion is caring. While it would be best for someone not to break down and cry all the time, showing feelings isn't necessarily a bad thing. You can't let emotions be the main driving force, but some has to be there, for they must all care.

He wants us to have more control over our own money, health care, and retirement, and not put those in the hands of government agencies. Sounds like he thinks we're actually smarter than most give credit for.

It would, alike, be a national tragedy if Senator McCain were to be assasinated, also hard to recover from, especially, too, if it were racially motivated.

Is this recession going to make things worse for renters/tenants?
Technically it's not a recession. But this will be no different than any other financially challenging times. You may have to give up one thing to afford another. Give up cell phone to buy gasoline. Give up cable TV to buy groceries. Like any time, you have to put priorities first. Just something we all have to deal with. Hard times could hit anyone even in economically strong...

If You Won The Lottery What Would You Do With The Money?
Assuming it to be over $250,000, pay about 70% taxes if one of the Senator's wins. If the other, than be able to keep more of my own money.
Actually, 10% to church, 10% to my other charity of choice, buy a slightly better house, and still refuse to pay over $2,000 for a car -- which is still too much for a car.
Answer to:
Who won the first debate between McCain and Obama and why? (I'm asking this question before it's over so that I'll be the one to ask the question).
Senator McCain by a score of 63/37. Hit hit a home run in his closing remarks, and was consistant as always. Senator Obama still claims he'll lower taxes for 95% of Americans, but we all remember what happened the last time a Presidential candidate ran on "tax cuts for the middle class and poor" and won. This goes to that whole "Fool me once...." thing. Not this...

When you see those programs on television about the destruction of rain forests and natural reserves, are you upset or angry by it?
I used to work in the lumber business. The common practice is to plant two trees for every one you bring down. Sure, they do it to sustain their business, but it also helps the environment, and seeing the environment doesn't react to "intentions," it seems win win to me. So, no, it doesn't upset or anger me. Of course, I never watch them, no idea when they're on.

How high do gas prices have to go before you will stop driving altogether and ride a bike or Public Transportation instead?
It would have to cost about $22.00/gallon to match my income to gas purchase ratio of 1989, which is when I first started driving. Something like that, not too good at math here. Still, I paid $2.499 in 1999, paid about $3.839 today, so that's not that much more considering a 9 year difference.

Is America ready to drive electric?
I won't. I pay a touch more than $20.00 a week for gas, the same as when I first started driving in 1989. Besides, electric cars don't provide the rumble and smell that only gasoline and diesel engines could produce. Drive electric if you want, that's great.
