One of the big reasons was simply that an invasion of Japan itself would have taken a long time and there would be major loss of life. There were probably other reasons, but that was the big one.

I would have to say the Chinese. Other ethnicities from ancient times, but their civilizations have changed. The Chinese in rural areas for the most part as far as I know still live similar lives to their ancestors.

They aren't considered as idols, but they are wrong in praying to saints. Saints are only men, not intercessors who have to go to God. We can go directly to God in prayer without the need for an intercessor.
