How long, on average, does an Xbox last?
The mobo part of it should last a LONG time... but I have a v1.0 box (bought first day on market) and the Thomson drive started giving me the "Dirty Disc" error about a year ago. The DVD is the first to go, followed by the HD probably, and finally perhaps the power supply.
My system then lasted about 4 years - later systems with better DVD drives (Samsung sd-605 or HP) should fare...

I dropped my Xbox, and now I can't play any Xbox Live games, though it will play regular games. How can I fix this?
There is no network card (or cards of any kind) in the xbox, as all components except the chip are soldered to the Mobo. The RJ-45 connector might have been damaged or a connection might have popped off the mobo. Check this, and you can try to resolder it if you have those skills. Chances are though that if the fall was that bad, other things might be wrong as well. Good luck!

My Xbox doesn't spin discs correctly. The disc spins for a while, then it dies and doesn't restart, and I get a Dirty or Non-system disc error. How can I fix this?
Many older Xboxes are now getting problems with the DVD drives that they shipped with. The Thomson is the worst, as it was a budget drive to begin with. Other older drives have this issue as well, though - it really depends alot on your usage.
In any case, drive replacement (all Xbox drives will work in any version xbox) is the cheapest, easiest, and quickest way to fix the problem. Prices...

My Xbox has no sound or video. The green light comes on, then it blinks green and red, but nothing happens. What could be wrong?
In the scene, this condition is known as a FRAGging (Flashing Red and Green) Xbox. It is simply an error code that tells you that the xbox needs servicing. Other conditions (other than standard problems with the hardware) that can lead to this are bad modchip installs - either bad solder jobs, mis-aligned pogo pins on solderless install chips, bad BIOS flashes, etc.
Answer to:
How do I delete a game from my Xbox hard drive? I use Evolution X software and an Exutor chip.
FTP to the box and delete the game from the HD, or use a xbox-local file explorer like Boxplorer or such. Keep in mind that save-games will remain on your drive even if you delete the main folder where the game is located.
Answer to:
Can newer (2004-2005) Xboxes be modified? If so, how?
As far as I know, the newest generation of modchips (many of the are even solderless) will function on any xbox through v1.6. visit divineo.com for a good selection.

How do I go about swapping my Xbox's hard drive for a bigger one? I heard 137 GB is the limit, is this true?
You will need to have an XBox replacement Bios that can address past the 137gb limit - Evox M8 Plus bios is a good choice. You can then use a tool called EVTool to customize this bios so that the drive partitioning works the way you want it.
Answer to:
How do I remove the outer shell from the Xbox?
The points by "originalmouse" are good, but the quick answer: The screws are located underneath the rubber feet, with two located under the bottom sticker (feel for them, you can feel the hole through the sticker).
Definite warranty voider, though - and watch out for the exposed parts on the power supply, even if it is not plugged in! You are working with potentially dangerous...
