Would you recommend the use of eye protection and lose fitting rubber gloves when using muriatic acid to clean bathroom tiles at home?
Wow. Why are you using muriatic acid, aka hydrochloric acid, on bathroom tiles? Won't it ruin whatever finish is on the tiles? That stuff eats asphalt.
I've used it to clean heavy soap scum off glass though, so yeah, it's definitely an effective cleaner. Make sure you run a fan in the bathroom so the fumes won't burn your lungs. Eye protection and gloves - YES. Good luck.

Why am I so afriad of rejection?
Because rejection means pain, and pain is a very scary thing. Rejection is the death of hope - one of life's most heart-wrenching, deeply discouraging experiences.
Look what happens - you open yourself up to someone, to the promise of happiness, hoping for what almost everyone, deep-down, hopes for - to love and be loved in return. But that someone rejects you, in effect, saying,...

She can be both, depending on who you're asking. To her proponents, she's a welcome breath of fresh air on America's national political scene. Her detractors, however, describe her as a bimbo who's out of touch and uninformed. They're probably both right, to some degree.

In my opinion, McCain's apparent disdain for Obama during the debate maybe wasn't so much racist as it was McCain's discomfort with debate. He knows he's a little slow on the draw and seems confused sometimes, and that makes him testy and defensive. Not an excuse, of course. Just one possible explanation.
In general, though, I understand what you're asking. My...

After Sarah Palin's one on one interviews with Charles Gibson and Katie Couric, do you think she has helped or hurt the campaign?
From Newsweek, Sept 27, 2008:
"CBS's Katie Couric questioned her in her trademark sympathetic style. It didn't help. When asked how living in the state closest to Russia gave her foreign-policy experience, Palin responded thus:
"It's very important when you consider even national-security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of...

Your questions are great, Sixty B. Thoughtful, whimsical, interesting. I understand your frustration with the over-zealous flagging, though, and that's really where the problem lies: the allure of five mod points per flag. For the points whores, five points is just too good to pass up. They read two questions that appear to be fairly close, so they flag. Their concern is points, not...

Will antidepressants be a good step for helping dealing with trust issues in a relationship?i get myself really upset when my partner checks out others females infront of me.
Trust issues in relationships get resolved by things like counseling, commitment, and good communication between partners. Using antidepressants might help you feel better (short term), but they won't treat the actual problem. Trust is a "people/relationship" issue, not a "chemical imbalance in the brain" issue. If something is "meant to be" are you stuck with it? I don't feel like I am a plaything of the Fates and I am not a puppet to the Great Puppet-Master, Destiny. I believe that we still have FREE WILL...what do you think?
We do have free will. Think about this - the only time you hear something described as "meant to be" is after the something has happened. Until then, nothing in life is set in stone.

Saw a movie called"The Picture of Dorian Gray".A guy who never ages. A painting of him shows his true self..evil, twisted, diabolic. He hides that painting in a closet. Do you know a Dorian Gray? Nicey nicey on the outside...mean/ugly on the inside?
I can't recall knowing anyone like Dorian Gray, Rosie. My life's experience with people from all over the world has been much like YARNLADY's. Some people show a tough, cold exterior, but they're tender-hearted and loving inside. Reminds me of Longfellow's quote: " Every man has his secret sorrows which the world knows not; and often times we call a man cold...

Talk to that kind of person about what? It's impossible to hold a healthy, successful conversation with someone who's irrational and nasty, no mater how smart he or she is. Do you question someone sincerity when they apologize and just as they say "sorry" they put a "but" behind it?
It's a defense mechanism, I think. The person who says that is shifting blame to something or someone else. When someone uses the word, "but", he's saying, "I don't accept responsibility for _____________"
Example: "I'm sorry, but you started it." (If you started "it", then "it" can't be my fault)

NOTE: I remember reading about "sleep deprivation" psychosis once. I guess that's a state in which someone who hasn't sleep in 48 hours or longer experiences visual and/or auditory hallucinations.

Making promises and habitually failing to keep them is called "passive-aggressive behavior". The promiser can't or won't tell you "no" directly, so he or she agrees to do something. Deep down inside, however, they resent the promise and express that resentment passively by just simply not following through. There's always some excuse.

Freeway, expressway, interstate, or just highway - what do you call your main state-to-state road?
Sometimes in California, the roads are called, "the", as in "the 10 meets the 210" or "the 5, 405 split". Sometimes it's "I-5".
Another big one is naming the freeways. "The Hollywood Freeway", and "the Glendale Freeway" for example.
What we should call them during rush hour is "The Gigantic, Slowly-Moving Parking Lot...

Not at all. By unsubscribing to uninteresting, negative, or argumentative comment threads, you are recognizing and affirming a conscious choice to focus your time and attention on something positive and healthy.
I realize this is difficult sometimes, especially after you've already gotten sucked in, but mature people walk away. (I learned this the hard way, LOL.)

How do you define "passive aggressive" and what has been your experience with it?
Passive aggressive boils down to "acts like a resentful, begrudging, jerk" LOL.
Seriously, though, depending on how resentful and begrudging he or she is, someone who's passive-aggressive is difficult to deal with. For example, he'll say, "Yes" when you ask for a ride, but he'll be an hour late to pick you up - if he shows up at all. Or she's pissed...

This may sound like a off the wall type of question, but please bear with me. Here lately I've been hearing all types of subjects with the number "101" in them. How many things are there, that you know of that use the number 101?
Highway 101 is a main north-south freeway on the west coast that begins in Los Angeles and ends in Washington State. People in my town, Santa Barbara, drive 101 every day - it cuts through the middle of town and is our only freeway. 101 1s the Golden Gate Bridge highway, and is also the road in the classic America song, "Ventura Highway", as well.

I remember when AB implemented that feature, sometime around September or October, 2007. The main reason:

That's how it goes. You put thoughts in quotation marks because, even though they are, indeed, thoughts, they're still expressed - just not out loud. In other words, Nancy is saying something - she's simply saying it to herself.

It's possible to become infatuated with a dream person, sure. But in love? Truly being in love with someone means reciprocation. The one with whom you're in love, returns your love. It lasts for more than one night.
Dream love is sweet and seductive, ethereal and short-lived. When we fall in love in our dreams, we're falling in love with hope, with fantasies.

To be wisdom or to be loved?
I'd rather be wise than be loved. Wisdom imparts strength and peace of mind.
Being loved is just soaking up love. There's no giving involved. In order to be happy, most people need to love, not simply be be the object of someone else's love.
Great question. Got me thinking. +5:)

How do you flag a question as a duplicate when it doesn't come up on the near matches...I tried just pasting the original link in but it doesn't work
Don't paste the whole link, Dan - just the numbers you see the end of the URL, after the "q_view"
For example, this question's URL is http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/839056. The question number is 839056. That's the number you'd paste into the Duplicate text box.

Do you ever find it incredible that there are always NEW songs with all the songs and lyrics out there, and like snowflakes, there may be similarities but no two are exactly alike?
YES! I have thought about the same thing many times. So much music is based on 12 bar blues, for example. (like Elvis "Hound Dog") I hear variations on that chord progression (or whatever it's called) every time I turn the radio on, seems like.
It IS an incredible, amazing thing, what you're asking about. I love this question!!

Answer to:
How do you find out what percentage one number is of another? i.e. i need to know what percentage is 1440 of 1920 in other words 1440 is X% of 1920
The way to figure stuff like this out is to construct an identical formula, but using numbers you already know.
For example, I know that 5 is 20% of 25. Now I rearrange those numbers into a formula that gives the end result as 20%.
Take 5, and divide by 25. The answer is 20%. In other words, 5 is 0.20, or 20%, of 25.
Using your numbers: 1440 is ____ of 1920. Divide 1440 by 1920...

For about six months last year, the same people would call me, over and over, trying to get me to buy Viagra (I am not making this up) from their overseas pharmacy.

I had a friend who banged his head really hard on the washer by accident. What should I tell him to say to explain it away so that he doesn't have to embarrass himself by telling the truth?
What's so bad about the truth? He could make jokes about what happened, laugh at himself, and people will laugh right along with him. Everyone does clutzy stuff now and then. That's nothing to be ashamed of !

In your opinion, when a question is badly written and technically worthy of a flag, but obviously comes from someone in dire need of help, should that question be removed, or is it more important for the asker to get the advice and help they need?
People are more important than writing styles, aren't they? If someone sincerely asks for help and needs an answer, then citing "rules" and pulling the question is - heartless.
Some people, for whatever reason don't express themselves well in writing. That doesn't invalid their need for help!

What you are feeling is infatuation, not love. And you're not dying, either. You have a crush, which is great, but it won't kill you if you never see him again. Believe me, because I speak from years of experience, LOL. You'll be fine!

Let's say I synthesize a new drug and it is as psychoactive as LSD but it is new and I made it and it has absolutely no ingredients of any know illicit drugs, and I sell it to people, would that be illegal?
Sure. The legal status of the ingredients isn't a factor. For example, drug cooks synthesize methamphetamine, which is illegal, from ephedrine, which is legal.

Can you post a question exactly like some one else and then mark theirs as a duplicate? Will it go through? Or will they check and keep the one that was posted first?
The one that stays is the question with the lower question number, seen in the URL. This question number, for example, is 818926. A question just like it would be considered a duplicate if it was number 818927 or above.

Answer to:
Why do people have to ask questions on here that are just plain mean or rude?
Some reasons:
They think the question is fine, or cute, or funny.
They're deliberately trying to upset someone they know is on AB when they ask.
They know the question's offensive, but they're going for general shock value.
They don't care how others see their questions - mean and rude is fine with them.

You mean, if an employee made that mistake? I wouldn't do either. After all, the intended recipient got the money, didn't he?
Everyone makes mistakes. He's probably aware he made one. Good employees are hard to find. Let it go.

Fill in the blank questions: Pro or con
Downraters: Identities revealed or anonymous
and of course, the endless debates about Answerbag itself: social network, or question...
