I had to knock bearings out with a twenty-pound sledge hammer while standing on a crank that is about a foot wide and is around ten feet in the air. I also hand to climb to the top of the beam and connect a 1 1/8 steel cable from the truck to the pumping unit. I had to climb the units carrying heavy bearings and sheaves. Oh and it was over 100°F.

Besides air coditionners, what other methods can be used to cool a building? If you are in a dry climate you could use evaporative coolers. Mist systems can help if water mist in the building isn't going to cause a problem. Another way is set up fans to move air in and out of the building.

As I understand it, the new way of CPR training eliminates the breathing step. Only continuous compressions. Anyone have any teachings or experience with the new method? What do you think about no breathing? I get CPR training every year. We use Red Cross instructors. They said this was a new method but they still are teaching that you give breaths. The fundamentals. I work with many highly educated people that come straight out of college. We get PHDs, Masters, BS, you name it. Most of them are engineers. They are totally worthless until they get real world training. The degree gets them a job and provides them with some tools. The on the job training and experience is what makes them valuable.

I just purchased a old iron bed covered in rust and old paint. I'd like to refinish the head and foot boards. Any suggestions for materials, procedure, etc...? As the lovely DreAnna said sandblasting is the way to go. Another option would be using a wire brush (on a grinder or by hand) to remove the large stuff. Then use sandpaper. Primer and paint.

From a lot of responses I get here on AB, I seem to notice that a lot of people (especially young people), have an animosity against police. Don't you think that's a sad statement about our society? I think it is a two way street. I think cops get sick of putting up with all the people with crappy attitudes and then end up with attitudes. Who had the attitude first doesn't matter. Its an endless chain. As for me, I have no problem with the police. I respect them and am glad they are there putting their life on the line to protect us.

Are you mild mannered or a loose cannon? I was a loose cannon when I was younger, but cannons rust. Now I am pretty calm. I learned you can really control a situation when you keep your cool. The added bonus is being calm around a loose cannon, drives them nuts. :)
