Answer to:
Why does water cool down and heat up slowly?
The phenomenon that you ask about is related to the specific heat capacity of the material. When a material can hold a lot of heat energy, the material will warm up slowly and loose temperature at the same rate. Things with a lower capacity to store heat, will warm up and cool faster.
A good analogy would be the difference between a one quart pan and a 5 gallon pail. If you try to fill...

In ancient Canadian Legend, what was the oldest and wisest creature on earth before man came to the Americas?
Canada did not exist before the white man came from across the water. That means any ancient Canadian legends would need to be only about 200 years old give or take 50. Unless you are referring to the native Canadians and each tribe had their own stories. In short, there isn't one.

Would younger blood provide the elderly with more energy?
I can think of a way that an older man might get more energy from some younger blood being around. LOL.
But if you are asking about transfusions technology, the answer is "no." Energy transfer in the muscles is dependant on blood flow but the blood does not provide the energy, it is only the medium that allows the transfer.

Answer to:
If a 5-year-old did just as well on an IQ test as a 20-year-old who scored a 121, what will the 5-year-old's score be?
The IQ test is a relative score that relates the physical age of the child to the mental age. If a 10 year old has the mind of a 12 year old, the child scores 120 on the IQ test. In your example, the 5 year olds score would be 121. That would mean that the 5 year old would have the mental age of a 6 year old.

What causes salt to boil at higher temperature?
I think your question is actually, "What makes water boil at a hotter temperature when salt is added to it."
This has to do with collision theory. Pure water will boil when heated to a specific temperature at a given pressure because the the atoms of water are excited enough to leave the surface of the water after a collison. When salt is added, the ions of sodium and chloride...

Why is phosphoric acid a syrupy liquid?
Liquids interact at the molecular level by rubbing and bumping against each other. The atomic interactions between the molecules at the atomic level are responsible for the observed properties at the macroscopic level. In this case, the dipol-dipol and hydrogen bonding interactions between the partially positive hydrogen atoms and the partially negative oxygen atoms create the fluid effect....

The Quakers had mills all over England in the 1800's grinding wheat and oats into flour, processing grains for animal feeds and the like.
A mill worker could have all kinds of jobs depending on which department he wsa assigned to.

Answer to:
Does christianity forbid sodomy or oral sex? Excuse my words in this posting.I know there are different interpretations but is there any literal biblical evidence that if it isn't "normal" intercourse it is considered sinful?
What's normal? When you ask about christianity as a whole, you are making the assumption that all the different sects of christianity are identical. Catholisism has the reputation for being the most reserved when it comes to sex and others are not quite as controlling. But to answer your question, no, there is nothing in the bible that says it is sinful to enjoy a varied sex life.

What happens when you put dry ice in food coloring
This depends on the amount. If the ice is small and the food coloring is large, the ice will sublimate leaving a heavy fog coming out of the cup. If the ice is large and the food coloring is small, you will get less fog and the coloring will freeze.

You can get the hooch about 95% pure using fractional distilation from water. The rest of the water can be removed using micro seives or something like Dryerite. The dryerite can be removed with a screen, dried and reused.

Answer to:
Which is more reactive:alkene or alkyne and why?
Alkynes are more reactive than alkenes. The carbon atom has 4 bonding sites situated equa-distant from each other in the shape of a tetrahydron. Two of those bonding sites need to be brought together to form an alkene which puts a lot of stress on the bond. The bond then stores a lot of energy that you can use later. For an Alkyne, you need to bend three bonding sites together onto the...

Why do the candles become brigter and have less sooty flame if I put some NaCl in the top of it?
If this occurs at all, it will be due to the added surface area that you have added to the top of the candle. The salt crystal falls into the molten wax. The wax adheres and coats the salt. The fuel is now better exposed to the heat source and the air making the flame burn better.

How would heart cells be custom-tailored to regenerate themselves?
It the research on the brain cells pans out, perhaps the heart cells are next. Interesting enough, I just read a story that the jarvic 7 heart design was being replaced by a pump that used a constant drive motor. Once implanted, the recirc pump just runs continuously which means, the patient would have no pulse. Kinda like a Wankle engine for the body.
Answer to:
How would brain cells be custom-tailored to regenerate themselves?
The brain cells of a fetus can grow which has pointed researchers toward finding a way to introduce fetal material into damaged brain tissue. The last break through I remember had something to do with the viability of brain cells from fetal animals being used in human trials. Not sure how that went.

Give comparative account of the chemistry of carbon & silicon with regard to their stability of hydrides &oxides .
You are asking me to write a book for you? Carbon freely creates bonds with hydrogen and oxygen. Not so much with silicon. The extra 10 electrons that silicon has is enough to push the bonding electrons further from the nucleus and less likely to form the bonds that carbon can. Silicon reacts more like a transition metal than like a nonmetal.

Answer to:
What is the hybrid state of silicon in {SiF6(2-)}?
In its normal state, silicon's outer shell electron config would be 3P2 leaving 4 vacant positions to add electrons before the octet is complete. In the case of SiF6(2-) the 2 lower 3S2 electrons get boosted to form outer shell bonding electrons (SP2 hybridization). The other two electrons are donated by the fluorine.
Answer to:
How is that silicon atom can have coordination number more than 4 but carbon can not?
The hybrid bonding orbitals on carbon are closer to the nucleus which allows the extra 2 electrons to be held tighter.

If you could fly a plane or spacecraft through the aurora borealis, what affect would the phenomenon have on your craft?
The aurora is caused by the interaction between the solar wind and our atmosphere. Many space craft have been launched and they all have been exposed to the solar wind. They all have survived. I have heard that in severe cases caused by a solar flare, a charge can build up on the hull that could lead to instrumental electrical anomolies if not otherwise discharged.

Does a fruits life end the minute it is picked from the tree or is it still alive for a while?
I would argue that a fruit is never alive. The tree that made the fruit is alive because it consumes food, respirates and procreates.
The fruit is only a seed that can become alive later. It does not respirate or procreate so it can't be alive.

first, I am surprised that a TV built in 92 will still function at all. typically you can only get a dozen years out of them so this one could be on its last resistor (so to speak).
The 1992 Sony Trinitron Antenna port was built for a standard external antenna feed. I think it was a flat 75 watt flat 2 strand wire cable. If you try and adapt a coax onto the port, you might get all kinds...

It might be that your sound card is failing.
If it is not the sound card, could it be a loose wire to the speakers or a faulty main board? It can not be software related, so it has to be the hardware. Can you change the IRQ for the soundcard for better response?

What does bouncing mean in email
You type a letter and send it.
If the letter comes back from the recipients computer service undelivered, it is like bouncing a ball off a wall. The letter "bounced" back. The lexicon is likely borrowed from the concept of writing bad checks and having them come back from the bank uncashed. As in: "I wrote a rubber check and it bounced."

Where does the 'body' of a gas giant end and the atmosphere begin? Why aren't such worlds considered as small, rocky planets with immense atmospheres?
We are not completely sure that the gas giant planets actually have a rocky core at all. Our best information suggests that gas giants have atmospheres that simply become gradually denser toward the core, perhaps with liquid or liquid-like states in between. The core may be solid but we don't know.

What are the particles doing when a liquid is evaporating?
The simple answer is "bumping into each other".
In collision theory, as the particles move about near the surface of the liquid, occassionally, a pair will crash into each other with enough force, and at the proper angle as to create the escape momentum required to allow the molecule to eject through the surface tension and become airborn.

It is a French corruption of the English crabs which stood for a throw of two or three. Why did Newfoundland resist joining Canada in the 19th century?
Lots of reasons. Travel between the island and the mainland was not very good and inconsistant. The islanders had no use for us mainlanders, and had a unique and distinct society that was developed around fishing. Esentially, they were independant and needed nothing from the rest of us that we could offer them on a routine and consistant basis.

Hi
How come when i push the accelerator white smoke starts to come out when i'm going up a hill,The car is already warmed up.What the reason for this?
Every combustion reaction creates water vapor. When you climb hills and tromp on the gas, the engine works harder, dumping more water vapor into the exhaust that will appear to look like a white smoke when it comes out the back. As your exhaust system warms to a temp approaching 100C the white stuf will go away.

My car has been blowing smoke when i start it up but this then disappears when driving. It is 10 years old and i'm not sure if it's because i'm using normal unleaded instead of super unleaded. Any ideas?
Likely worn rings and/or valves. When the engine is cold, the metal is smaller allowing gas to leak past into the exhaust. Cars blow black smoke when the exhaust is rich in gas. When the engine warms up, the metal expands and seals the leak.

If a spinning solid disc is moving fastest at its outer edge and slower towards the middle, what motion is going on at the exact centre?
The answer is "Rotation." As you move in from the outer edge, the linear speed of the tangent point from your position goes down in relation to the distance from the center. Hypothetically, at the exact center, the tip speed would be zero but we all know that isn't possible. The math approaches zero but the expression will not allow it to BE zero.

A sample contaning 0.175g of cloride is dissolved in 50ml of deionized H2O. The solution is titrated to the equivalence point with a (AGNO3-)silver nitrate solution. The final volume of the titrated sample is 75ml. what is the concentration of AGNO3-?
To know the concentration of silver nitrate, I need to know which chloride salt you dissolved. Sodium chloride at 0.175 grams in 50 ml will have a different molarity than Calcium chloride at 0.175 grams in 50 ml. The molarity of the initial solution will allow me to use stoichiometry to calculate the molarity of the silver nitrate solution at equivelence.

"Liquid Ammonia" describes either a gas dissolved in liquid or gaseous ammonia in a liquified state. In either case, the vapour pressure of corrosive ammonia over the liquid and below the seal is temperature dependant. At higher temps, openning the seal will allow the gas to escape violently which will be a safety hazard. To reduce that effect, the liquid is chilled.

HAS ANYONE EVER FIGURED OUT THE MEANING OR PURPOSE/ORIGIN OF THOSE HUGHE AIR STRIPS (OR APPEAR TO BE AIR STRIPS) IN MEXICO AND CENTRAL AMERICA
The Nasca Lines of Peru were created about 200 to 300 BC. They are not considered to be an airstrip except by serious researchers. The best guess is that the Nasca Indians created the huge drawings of animals, as a tribute to their deity(s). They drew them so large so that only someone high above could see the details.

The funny thing about fictional characters is that they can appear to be any age they like simultaneously. You can watch a superboy show in the morning, then a teenage super dude at lunch and another more mature...

This is a good question. Your belly button is what remains of your umbilical cord that supplied your food while in the womb. Why is hard water, when initially basic, turn acidic when softened with sodium ion-exchange resins?
Hard water is basic, this is true. Soft water may or may not be basic after the ion exchange resin bed is done. It depends on how the system is set up. If you put a polishing bottle after the bed, then you can make Deionized water which is acidic at a pH of 5.5. This happens when the purified water, hungry for solute, dissolves CO2 out of the atmosphere to create carbonic acid H2CO3 (aq).
