Answer to:
How come no Christian can come up with anything from the bible that makes me more likely to believe any of it?
Well, it seems simply because it's not your belief. If you are steadfast in not believing the Christian faith and the Bible then of course nothing that they tell you from the Bible is going to change your beliefs. If I am not Muslim, and I have decided that I am not going to be Muslim then there isn't going to be anything that someone cites from the Qu'ran that is going to change my beliefs.

Do you prefer to workout at a gym or home?
At the gym, simply because I feel obligated to NOT cheat. I don't want to be THAT person who wusses out. Although here lately, I'd be better off at home because I can't even find the motivation to get in the car and drive over (which is ridiculous because it's five minutes away). I simply get a better workout when I am at the gym.

What do you think about a girl that has new nails just about every three days?
That she wants to look nice She could be doing them herself or have a friend doing them for her. I don't wear artificial nails, but I apply fresh polish probably about every 3 days. So what? It's just something I like to do. I also have some friends that can do nails as well, so if I wanted them done, I could get them done free to super cheap.

Should Community Leaders have term limits instead of tenure? Should AB members have a vote on whom they would like to have fill the jobs?
Speaking as someone who has come back and forth on AB, and a previous CL. I don't think that CL's should have a term so to speak. However, I do know that there was sometime that I remained a CL after I was pretty much unavailable to do anything on AB due to a new baby. It was several months after I was inactive before I was no longer a CL. I'm not sure what it's like these days as I haven't...

They don't exactly call them that anymore. I work in the mental health system and have worked on all kinds of psych units. There is never a dull day but it's not to the extreme that it's portrayed on TV every single day. However, truth is often stranger than fiction and there are some days that TV writers couldn't even think up.

Seriously? Ask her if she's a racist from 1940 and tell her that could be construed as extremely offensive. Why use an adjective anyone when referring to people?
It's a big pet peeve of mine when people say "Oh yeah, I met this (black, white, Asian, etc) guy at the bank today". Why does it need a qualifier, why not say " I met this guy at the bank today".

Ignorance fuels fear, people fear what they don't understand. Very few people I know actually know anything about Islam, I'm curious how many Muslims understand Christianity either. It works both ways, until people open their minds there will be fear.

It's a judgment call, some infractions would deem an immediate citation, others would suffice with a warning.
If you are speeding and it appears to be a potential danger, or if you have other citations a ticket would seem most appropriate.
However, if your tags expired 2 days ago and you have a clean driving record, I would think a warning should suffice.

I haven't studied up on what is currently being discussed, so I can't comment on that. What I will say, is that I do believe that health care should be reformed, is not socialized then at least subsidized. Everyone should have the right to decent health care.

The Roman Catholics in Ireland have just had another large child-abuse case revealed. Instead of apologizing or doing right, the new Archbishop of Westminster has chosen to attack atheism. Are atheists a faceless, easy target for the religious?
It would seem they are an easier target than other religious groups. It's 'wrong' to attack those of different religions, but it's 'ok' to attack those who are 'immoral' as some try to parade that atheists are.
It's just a matter of finding an easy, ready made scape goat to distract from the real issues.

Why is it that in inner cities and urban areas the buildings and houses seem to each have their own distinct character, and in suburbs there is cookie cutter homes, with most of them looking like the next, thus lacking individuality?
I think it has to do with the time frame in which they were built, it seems that now a days it's just quicker and easier to have cookie cutters. Most of the buildings in more urban areas are older and/or designed at different times. Unlike now, where it's not uncommon to build 5 new homes in as quick a fashion as possible.

I don't necessarily think it's always a bad thing under the right circumstances, but I don't think it's usually the best course of action. I just think that other means of discipline are more effective. However, ask me when I actually HAVE my baby and my views may change.

Is schizophrenia an illness that you are born with and comes into affect later in life, or not?
No one knows for sure, there is a genetic piece to it, but no one knows if it's just a predisposition or a sure thing for some. It does manifest itself later in life and many clinicians won't even think about giving the diagnosis until the patient is 18.

Is it true that salt will heal a canker sore?? Or salt water?
Supposedly salt has some natural antiseptic properties, but I've had my share of canker sores and salt has never once helped mine.
If you want to get rid of them, as much as it hurts scrub the area with peroxide and then use a gel made for the sores. It'll be gone in less than 24 hours :)

My bf is a Iraq vet & has PTSD. He's verbally abusive to me and sometimes physically. My self-esteem has plummetted since we started dating & I've lost all of my friends. Whenever I bring this up he tells me his problems are worse. How can I make him see?
THAT honey, is not from the PTSD. A diagnosis of PTSD does not give someone carte blanche to treat others like dirt. If he's acting like this and blaming it on his PTSD he's just making excuses and would be acting the same way if he didn't have PTSD, get out while you can.

I think it's quite true, and not just for teens but for many people in general. Online there is not only a sense of anonymity but also the fear of rejection is not as real. You can create your own persona and no one would know the truth. You can be what you cannot be in real life.

Why do so many people care about the gadgets their car has or the cool things their phone can do when there are people living in shacks as big as my car in small countries around the world? Don't say you don't do it because everyone does.
Because we all live in our own little bubble. Most of us don't see the poverty that exists because we aren't directly subjected to it. We just drive our cars, drink our Starbucks and say "poor things' to those who suffer simply because many people simply make themselves believe that unless they see it, it doesn't exist.

My mother is receiving a $250,000 payout from my deceased fathers superannuation policy. My sister and I are not receiving any of the money as it is going toward a holiday for my mother and stepfather. Am I wrong to find this appalling and unfair?
It may not sound fair, but it's hard to say without knowing more about the situation. If it were specified to go to your mother, then technically it's her money. When my father in law died, my husband didn't see a dime of it but it was left to his mom and what she decided to do with it was her business.

then how to clean our ears?
Technically you DON'T need to clean your ears UNLESS there is a problem. Wax is there for a reason. However, it is rather icky so I also use a Q-Tip, but it can't be very dangerous if you aren't super careful.
The recommended way is to have your ears irrigated, or to get wax removal drops and a blue bulb to rinse it out of your ears.

How can you not believe in any religion but still believe in God?
I do not believe in any organized religion because it inherently flawed because religion was concieved by man. Believing in a higher power does not mean one has to believe in religion, they are not mutually exclusive.

What is your take on God (Higher power, deities, what have you)? (NO arguments please! This is just to discuss and learn about each other and about what we think.)
I think there is some sort of higher power out there. Be that a single enity or something more like all of the energies in the universe combining together to work as a system. I do not however, believe in organized religion. I think that most organized religions are a sham, that were orginally created as a way for man to both explain the unexplainable and as a way to dictate man's behavior...

No, I like well defined seasons. It should only snow in the winter and thunderstorms should only happen in the spring and summer. Additionally it shouldn't be freezing in the fall. But apparently Mother Nature has a different prerogative here in Cincinnati.

No, they are physically unable to speak (as the don't have the vocal cords for it) what you probably heard was a bark that somewhat sounded like stop. She probably had no idea what she had done.

Answer to:
If there is even a remote possibility that hell exists and that we will burn there for eternity, then why risk that? When all God asks is for our blind faith and devotion. Not your pocket book or your change of lifestyke or weekly attendance at a church.
For some it would be easier to reach in their pocketbooks and go to church weekly than to offer up their full devotion and blind faith. That is a much harder thing to give for many.

I use a towel for 2 weeks before washing. My frIend thinks it's disgusting, she gets a clean one every day. I say I am clean when I exit the shower and so is the towel. Please help and chime in with what you think is proper.
I never paid too much attention to how often I change towels, usually every few days or so. After 2 days it starts to smell mildewy, so I geta fresh one. I just trust my nose. 2 weeks does seem a bit much for me, but my husband probably would go that long if I didn't purposefully change his towels.

That's simple. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am more a danger to myself than I am to an animal if I were to carry a gun (or any other weapon for that matter).
So unless I become suicidal or homicidal, the world is a much safer place if I left the hunting up to the hunters.

How much would a trained show jumping horse cost?
That's a very broad question, it's like asking "how much does a car cost"? It varies greatly depending on exactly what you are looking for. You could start at anywhere from 500 dollars to upwards of a million.
You need to determine the breed, the specific discipline (hunters, jumpers, eventing, etc.), the experience level of the horse, the age of the horse, the condition...

It depends on the area and the farrier. I know some who do it for 40 dollars and less, but we pay 60 for a trim. Our farrier is amazing and you really do get what you pay for. Often the cheaper farrier do a crappy job and don't even take the time to ensure that everything is even and filed properly.

Is birth control only enuf (no condom)? If a girl takes the pill at 7 AM in the morn (first time), will she be 99% protected by noon? how long does birth control take to get into affect? can you get it OTC? Is it expensive?
No, it takes quite some time (usually a month) for birth control pill prescriptions to be effective. You cannot get them OTC in the US, they must be prescribed and can only be done following a pap smear. I recommend you seek out a local planned parenthood as they do offer low cost birth control as well as safe sex education and condoms free of charge to teens.

What are the chances of Anonymous being made a Community Leader?
I would say not likely, only because it would be hard for others to recognize someone with the name of "Anonymous" as a CL. Now if it was something that users could differentiate like "Anonymous #99" then it could happen. It's not the user name that makes the difference, merely the ability for others to pick out who is and isn't a CL, as well as tracking them down...

No, cats will kill and even consume adult rats, even very large ones. The reason we do not have rodents at our barn is because of our 4 resident barn cats.
They keep the rats and mice away and remain fat and sassy doing so.

Do I have that decision, yes. Because you are the child, and as the parent it is my responsibility to act as your surrogate frontal lobe in certain situations.
Would I make that decision for you? Most likely no. There would be a great deal of conversations, research and most likely tears until the best possible decision is reached. First and foremost, I would show my love and support.

Teens are far from stupid, but it's quite true that biologically they just aren't mature.

So it's not so much that they aren't 'wise' enough, but really...

I just started dressage yesterday with my horse, what should i teach him first?
I agree with Galeanda, you need to find an instructor. It's not just a different saddle from hunt seat, it's a completely different way of riding the horse.
Depending on where to start, depends on where your horse is currently at. Typically you start at the basics, getting your horse to move forward and use it's hindquarters, accepting the aids, relaxing and suppling.

My 19 year old Appendix LOVES to gallop and jump (only about 2') but his arthritis is starting to catch up to him. What can I do so that he can do what he loves at least sometimes without being in pain? How often should I let him jump?
This is a conversation that you need to have with your vet. There are many options available to you and your horse, but a vet would have to help you find the right course of action for you and your horse. It may be a matter of drugs or something as simple as lowering the jumps and changing the footing.

what is the best horse breed for dressage
I hesitate greatly in giving a specific breed, this is because many, many breeds can excel in jumping and dressage. Many would answer with some type of warmblood, but what it comes down to is the individual horse and what it is built for and what it loves.
I have a 15'2 arab mare who just blew away all the Warmbloods today at a dressage show and who placed above all the thoroughbreds...

You should have her evaluated and even if everything checks out ok, a behavior specialist can work with you to teach you how to improve her behavior.

I've learned temperance. I've always been a tolerant person, but also quick to point out fallacies and injustices (so to speak). Many people go throught life without finding a 'significant other'.....many people do, several in fact....who do you think in general, lead happier lives?
Those who are honest with themselves and appreciate what they have.
Studies indicate that those who are in a relationship are generally happier, but this really can't be considered 100% accurate. Many 'settle' for relationships that don't meet their needs, just to not be alone.
There are many people who have chosen to be alone that are happier than those who are in a...

If you have one or more dogs, do you get your dog(s) vaccinated against Canine Parvovirus (and please give reasons why / why not)?
Absolutely, it is a MUST. It's most often deadly (especially in dogs under 5 months) and crazy contagious. The virus also can live up to one year outside, meaning that if a dog positive for parvo defecated in one area of grass, if your dogs goes by it a year later, he could still contract the illness.
Parvo is also a very horrible death for dogs, a 10 dollar vaccine is well worth it to...

I would love to get a horse again. I have a home that sits on an acre. The back (about 1/2 acre) is fenced with wooden 6 ft privacy fence on 3 sides and a 4 ft chain link fence on the long side. Would I be able to keep a horse in that area? Any advice?
No, it's dangerous. NEVER keep a horse or pony with a chainlink fence. Also a typically wooden privacy fence, isn't nearly strong enough to withstand the force of even a pony. A good solid kick and the wood could shatter, a leg could go through it, or he could even get stuck.

I put my horse in my neighbors pasture for a few days and when I went to get her she was bloated.... then that night she had gotten out of her stall and pigged out on the hay. Is there anything that I can do to make the bloating go down...?
Horses don't generally 'pig out' on hay. If your horse isn't usually kept out to pasture, I would be more concerned about that. If there is bloating, watch carefully for signs of colic and intervene appropriately.

My arabian gets this kinda scabby stuff on the fronts of her back legs below her hocks. it doesnt bother her or anything but i was just wonderin what it was. anybody know?
Sounds like fungus to me, get some Betadine and Furazone (or even Desitin). Wash with the Betadine and generously apply the cream. Repeat every few days and it should be cleared up within a week or so. If that doesn't work, you should call the vet.
Answer to:
Do all Doberman breeders crop their puppies ears? if so is it possible to ask them to not crop one? i know this breed is generally bred as guard dogs but i just want it as a pet
Many breeders will leave that up to the owners, as the majority of puppies aren't done until 3 months or so. Also it's expensive and time consuming, so more breeders are likely to leave them to get them done before the purchase. The only thing that is done prior to purchase is tail docking, as that must be done at 3 days old.

There isn't one breed that is dominantly used for trail riding, any breed can be a trail horse. Trail classes, on the other hand are typical comprised of quarter horses. Endurance racing (done on trails) is dominated by arabians. But as for casual riding, there isn't one dominant breed.

From what I've seen, a GREAT deal of the homeless population have mental health issues or substance abuse issues (especially when you look inside the world of adult psych). I know it's not all of them, but I think it's a pretty good percentage. Then there are those who just got the short end of the stick, I really don't think many of them choose to remain homeless of their...

Take a famous person, alive or dead, famous in entertainment or history. Now, what kind of cheesy horror movie can you think to make about them, based on their real life stories or exploits?
How about VanGogh in a movie about a serial killer who cuts off parts of his victims bodies as trophies. It could take place in Canada. Not enough horror movies take place in Canada.
Or a vampire flick starring Chuck Norris, he could be like Chucky the vampire slayer.
Oh Gawd, I really need to get some sleep.

I haven't had to in a long time, but I have used that feature and in those rare occasions it's a wonderful feature. I've used it in the past to deal with rude or abusive users or just to remove myself from someone who merely wants to argue. It's so much better to just remove yourself than to get involved in a heated debate or retaliate against someone.

Even if someone flags it and suggests it goes into the wrong category it isn't actually moved until it is reviewed by staff. CLs are the only ones who can actually flag something and have it moved immediately, but even then it is ultimately reviewed by staff. It's most likely just posted in the wrong category by the questioner to begin with.

Nope, I just leave them as they are. Unless of course I have the radio cranked, then I turn it down so I don't mess myself the next time I get in and start it up.

LOL! The joys of having a kitten :)
If he jumps up, just keep putting him down. If he gets too close to the food you could either try a spray bottle of water or make a loud noise. Both with startle him enough to make him stop 'investigating'.

Answer to:
Is there any truth behind the common belief that eating past a certain hour causes weight gain?
Not really, if you need 1500 calories a day for example, it really doesn't matter HOW or WHEN you eat them. HOWEVER, not following proper eating habits (several meals a day at regular intervals) will cause you NOT to lose weight, even if you just consume 1500 calories. You may not gain eating them all at one time, or past midnight, but it will hinder any weight loss progress.

I think it depends on the context. I don't get upset when I hear someone referred to as 'gay' as their sexual preference but it can also be used in a derogatory fashion. As in he's 'A Gay' or "those gays', that's like saying someone is A Black, or "those blacks". In those situations the contexts differ greatly. Things are easily perverted...

Yes, although I don't think it's ok for people to discriminate, if they disagree with homosexuality it doesn't necessarily make them 'homophobic'. If your eyes are irritated, it's likely that just about everything (including drops) will burn. It's also possible that your eyes are producing enough tears, you could try some lubricating drops (they are much linger lasting than typical eye drops) and see an optometrist to get a specific diagnosis.

Cutting is a symptom of a mental health diagnosis, often cutters have experienced significant trauma early in life. This trauma actually causes re-wiring of the brain. Meaning their brains are wired differently than most.
Cutting becomes a way for them to deal with the stressors in their lives because typical coping mechanisms do not work for them. People want to stereotype that they do it...

Now, in an undeveloped brain (think a small child), these cells have not become as specialized and when a part of the brain is damaged, other parts of the...

Is a user considered a "Departing User" if they still log on almost everyday, although they have reduced the number of questions and answers they post?
I don't know, I don't get this one. I guess just because we know how hard the AB habit is to break, perhaps they aren't able to stop cold turkey.

What would be wrong with Obama being Muslim? With all the problems this campaign is centered on, why is that even an issue? Are people really that shallow?
Well said! I have wondered this myself, seriously when did it become a requirement to be a Christian to be president.

Do you withhold love as a punnishment ,to children or husband?
Never, that would be horrible. Children need unconditional love, and so do spouses. You can say I don't like what you are doing and the choices you make, but I will always love YOU.

Do you sometimes wish that you're jobless and can stay on the computer all day and all night?
Somedays, yes. But then I also have days that is all I do and I quickly grow bored. So, other than my temporary bouts of insanity I'd rather not :)

They say chocolate is better than sex, I do not think so, what do you say?
I need some of that chocolate, if that's the case. Apparently those who say that aren't getting their end of the bargain.

Why do Christians 'cherry pick' the science they accept? Like, accepting the science behind airplanes and computers but denying evolution or the age of the universe. How can anyone believe god made light from distant stars 'in transit' but use a computer?
23Skidoo, your question is a trap and many of the users that have answered with different beliefs than you has received a rude comment from you.

Laws seem to be "all or nothing" but parking signs are flexible. (Parking ok after 5 pm, etc.) Would you like to see a law saying you don't have to wear your seatbelt when the posted speed limit is under 42 mph?
I don't think that seatbelt laws should be enforced. If someone is dopey enough to not wear their seatbelt, I would call it natural selection. People who don't want to wear them aren't going to start just because they get a ticket.

I don't know sweetie, but I don't want to find out. Both sound extremely stressful. I guess if I had to pick, I would say having no job.

What do you think of pharmacists who won't fill birth control prescriptions for moral reasons (that they are in fact, just a chemical abortion)?
They should find a new job, and they shouldn't have their degree. Any pharmacists should be educated enough to know that birth control is not chemical abortion.
