Do you prefer spending your time making people feel good or waste it making them feel lousy? Why? What do you get out of it?
Neither.
When I say something complimentary, it's not to make people feel good.
When I say something negative, it's not to make people feel lousy.
I say something because that's what I believe is the truth.
I don't sugarcoat things, but I also don't see any need to be abrasive.

No, in my opinion.

Why did Sudan make a deal with Darfur rebels?
Only one rebel group has signed an accord with the Sudanese government: the Justice and Equality Movement. It is the most active one, but not the only rebel group existing in that area.
I think the reason why Khartoum made a deal was it wanted to reduce the tension in the region. The conflict there has been going on for years, and it could get really tiring for people.

There are indeed instances where I'm not able to rate a question (out of points for a certain user, points not registering because of a glitch, among others), but such instances don't happen too often.

Have you been on other Q and A sites? Do you like Answer bag the best?
Yes. I've been to Yahoo! Answers, blurtit and LiveQnA. I still go to Yahoo! Answers from time to time, especially when I need very specific information (departure and arrival times of trains, for example).
Yes, I like Answerbag the best because I have made a few friends here, friends that I would love to meet in person, if given the chance.

Answerbag is like a Neighborhood Bar..maybe like Cheers. Only our neighborhood is the world. Someone always knows your name...someone is always glad you showed up. And someone is always waiting to "take you on" in one way or another. What do you think?
Oh yeah!
There are people on AB who would vomit or spew hateful and/or hypocritical statements every now and then ;)

No.
People on AB seem to want you to just agree with them, no questions asked. I don't think that kind of attitude would help make someone improve his or her debating skills.

If Answerbag continues to operate, yes, I think someone will reach Level 200 one day. Some of our top points earners are quite young. For example, Zack is only in his 30s. Yours truly is only in his 20s. In 30 years both of us would still be here :)

I graduate 3.26.09 - when should I start taking interviews and mailing my stack of resumes so I hopefully have a job in line for me when I graduate?
I started to send out resumes around five months before my college graduation. It took me some time to get hired (five months AFTER graduation), but I enjoyed the job search process.
Go ahead and send resumes now. Sometimes the long wait could be frustrating, but when you finally get a job you'd feel that the long wait was worth it.

Why does it matter what level you are?
The level matters here on AB because the higher the level of a user, the higher the points that he or she will be able to give.
But at Level 43, a user can already give the maximum six points on answers. So after Level 43, the levels really don't matter that much anymore.

Three reasons:
1. To avoid points gaming. This means preventing people from giving all of their friends an infinite amount of points.
2. To discourage sockpuppetry. A Level 43 sockpuppet could only give a maximum of 150 points a week. Imagine all the work that had to be done just to create a Level 43 sockpuppet. If people want points, I suggest that they just moderate the site.

During my first few months here, yes. I used Answerbag to forget my real-life failures. Answerbag was my life then, that's why I managed to be number one at the Answerbag Top 5 of the Week for three straight months.
But right now I come to Answerbag because I have some spare time. I have decided that it's time for me to face the music, so to speak.

Okay, I just learned that although it's against the rules to call names on AB, that some seem to be okay, I'm curious, where the line is drawn, do you know?
Once or twice is okay, I think. People should not be too onion-skinned.
But if that "rare" name-calling is accompanied by trolling (especially with the use of sockpuppets), I'm pretty sure the user will see the Penalty Box for at least three days.

No, for lots of people have posted their pictures here:

To those who haven't posted their pics, oh well, I respect their decision not to post any photos. Or maybe they don't even know that such a question exists.

1967
Mystery still surrounds the disappearance of Harold Holt. At the time, dark rumours said the strain of office had been too much for him: that he had suicided, or even contrived his own disappearance. More recently, an author constructed an elaborate scenario alleging he had been a spy and had been whisked away in a Chinese submarine. But it seems more likely that when this debonair,...

Do soldiers getting ready for battle expect to die?
Survival is the most basic human instinct. I don't think any soldier "expects" to die when they're in the battlefield.
But I think soldiers do not discount the possibility that they could die in the line of duty. That's different from "expecting to die," however.

Just 50? That's a pretty conservative estimate. There must be thousands of them here.

William Henry Harrison
President Harrison has the dual distinction among all the Presidents of giving the longest inaugural speech and of serving the shortest term of office. I think no.
I'm currently watching the event at CNN now and the male announcer said that even though Obama hadn't been sworn in yet, he has officially become the President of the United States at 12 noon. How many times do you frequent AB per week & in doing so, how long do you stay on for(in average)?
I'm here almost everyday. The only times that I missed ABing were when I was sent to the Penalty Box, my sister got married and I was on trips abroad.
These days I spend an average of 1 hour here. That's a far cry from the 8 hours that I used to spend when I was still very active.

I prioritize giving points because I don't want to forget giving points to people.

What can we do to help the ab staff out this year?
Let's all try to be good users.
For example, if we don't feel good maybe we should just not log on at all. The negativity that we feel goes to Answerbag as well via our questions, answers and comments, and yes, even our rating behavior.
If someone feels a need to vent, do it somewhere else.

Which will you prefer Airways , Roadways or Railways or Seaways?
It really depends on my destination.
For example, if I wanted to go to Vietnam from my country it would be impossible for me to use the roads. I would have to ride in an airplane.
But once I'm in Vietnam, I prefer using the road instead of an airplane to go to neighboring Cambodia. It's not as fast, but it's a lot cheaper! The bus fare from Saigon to Phnom Penh is only $11.

I find the belief that it is impossible for a woman to rape a man to be based on the assumption that a man can control his erections. But that's not true, getting an erection is involuntary. Does that make female/male rape possible?
Yes.
Erection and ejaculation are biological functions. The body may like the "sensation" brought about by the sexual stimulation, but the heart and soul definitely do not.
But I think "man getting raped" is much harder to prove in court than "woman getting raped." I understand what your girlfriend is trying to point out.

The Bikini Girl got through because the producers thought she could attract more viewers (male ones, most likely). More viewers = more ads = more profits.

What is a bear raid
The illegal practice of attempting to push the price of a stock lower by taking large short positions and spreading unfavorable rumors about the target firm.
In a bear raid, the manipulators profit on the difference between the original stock price and the lower (manipulated) price. This was a popular practice in the early 1900s.

Why did it takes economists so long to admit we are in recession?
Because the technical definition of a recession is two successive quarters of negative growth. Many people tend to stick to the definition of something instead of looking at what's really happening on the ground.

Not all people believe that the number 13 is bad luck. Most people I know think that 13 is just another number, something that we shouldn't worry about.
Besides, it's quite easy to get to Level 14. You don't need 20,000 points to reach that level from Level 13.
Answer to:
Who is the most annoying person you know? Why?
Online: someone who spreads nasty rumors about another user of a certain website. To the rumormongers: seriously, get a life, please.
Real life: I have this co-worker who looks down on practically all people at work.

I heard for the year ending 2008 there over 2.5 million people in the US unemployed. I hate to ask, are you one of them too?
Nope :)

Answer to:
What's fun about being unemployed?
You can watch TV the whole day, or watch a bunch of movies from sunrise to sunset.
You will also realize how much your family loves you. I survived five months of joblessness after college graduation because of the financial and moral support given to me by my mother and my sister.

Have you ever thought of a great question to ask - clicked your way to category / subcategory you want - then found you can't remember your question?
No.
When I have a question in mind, either I write it down on a piece of paper, or post it on Answerbag right away. I don't care much about which category/subcategory it should be placed.

Answer to:
I have been here a while now. Some people score in a week more points than I have now. How is that possible? Is it a buddy system? Do they have multiple accounts or something. I feel sometimes as if I shouldn't even BE here, I'm such an outsider.
I used to get around 10,000 points a week.
How was that possible? Well Answerbag was my life then. I posted tons of questions and answers, and I moderated a lot. I lived on the computer at the time.
I'm speaking for myself though. I don't know what others do.

I used to be an active user of this site, but I left almost a year ago. I could never figure out how to get my account deleted. I've changed a lot since then, and I'd like to start anew. How would I go about deleting my old account?
We can't delete our own account here.
But it seems you have opened a new account (the one you used to ask this question). So that's it, you're starting all over again! I don't see anything wrong with starting all over again.

Toyota, Honda lead declines in December auto sales.... So, think Toyota and Honda will HIT up the U.S. for a bail out too?
I don't think so.
They are not American companies. They might ask their own government though.

Answer to:
If you haven't told your friends in real life about Answerbag, is it because you want to hog it all to yourself?
It's not because of that.
I just don't think that any of my real life friends have the "temperament" to use a website like Answerbag. AB is not their cup of tea. If they're on the Internet, they'd rather go to YouTube or purely social networking sites like Friendster and MySpace.

Is AB-Joel in your list of friends?
No, he's not.
There are no staff members on my friends list. I don't interact that much with them, that's why.
Answer to:
Has anyone noticed, that since Joel left, AB seems to be going further and further down hill - and that nothing likes to work any more?
Frankly I don't notice at all, because I haven't been spending too much time on AB these days. It's one of my New Year's resolutions.

Answer to:
Do you think we should be able to rate the comments on answers?
We can earn points from questions, answers and moderation. I think that's more than enough.
I know there are lots of comments that are much better than the answers themselves, but we must always remember that comment threads are there precisely because we want to clarify some things. Comments should therefore be used for that purpose, and not for gaining points.
Answer to:
What's the longest you've heard of a person being in the penalty box? How about you, yourself?
9,999 days, or more than 27 years. That's effectively a ban.
I was placed in the Penalty Box from March 10 to 13 last year, for posting inflammatory content.

How is your bank account doing these days?
It's stable.
But in a few months I think it would somehow lose some money, because I'm thinking of going to China with my mom for a few days to celebrate my birthday.
The only way for the money in my back account to remain intact is for me to find a part-time job. The money that I would earn there would finance that trip.
Answer to:

Do you like youtube?
Yes.
Well, YouTube has always been one of my favorite websites, long before I found questions and answers websites like Yahoo! Answers and AB.
These days I find myself spending more time there than on Answerbag. I think I'm re-discovering the "beauty" of YouTube.

Do you think there are too many religous questions that come up on AB?
There are only 20,905 questions under the "Religions" category of Answerbag. I don't think that's too many.
Besides, I don't notice them that much because I rarely go to that category. I focus my attention on the categories that I like, and the questions posted by my friends.

Should women be allowed 2 play with men in sports?
Personally, yes, I think so.
I hope there will be no more "men's" or "women's" events in the future.
Here's an interesting article that is somehow related to what I'm saying:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/3702650.stm
Women sprinters may be outrunning men in the 2156 Olympics if they continue to close the gap at the rate they are doing,...

Answerbag City
The best part is you can make a lot of friends there, the worst part is you may stumble upon a lot of repetitive questions ;)

Answer to:
Is it only the losers on AB who get mad over downrates, or am I missing something?
I wouldn't say "losers," but there are reactions to downrates that are indeed over the top. For example, there's a very high level user who posts a comment on each and every answer of theirs that gets a downrate. They act as if they have some kind of immunity to downrates.
Downrates are annoying, but there will come a time when you'll just stop caring about them....

Will you ever trust a Standard & Poor AAA rating again?
Frankly I have never trusted such ratings because first, the bases of those ratings are very subjective and relative, and second, I don't quite understand how S&P comes up with those ratings anyway.

Do you think the category expert title is misleading and would be better, if changed to category leader?
Yes, I agree.
"Category points leader" would be a better description, not "Category expert." I know it's kinda long but we should never sacrifice accuracy for brevity.
Answer to:
What's the most levels you've ever jumped in one day?

Is there something I (or anyone for that matter) ever said in this forum that you are still angry about?
Well frankly yeah.
Fortunately though I don't spend that much time on AB anymore, so I no longer have the time to dwell on the nasty things said about me both on AB and on other websites.
Right now I'm focusing on real life stuff. That's what really matters anyway.

Answer to:
This may seem a bit sad but how comes ive got no a/b freinds?
I checked out your activity and based on that, you don't seem to visit AB everyday.
For example, you asked a question on November 5. Then your next activity was on November 11. You asked another question on November 16. Then you returned on December 6 to ask another question.
You are not here everyday and because of that, people would find it hard to get to know you a little bit more.

How to moderate a bad comment?
Suppose that the answer is o.k. but the comment under it is for example something vulgar
We can't moderate a bad comment, for there's no such thing as a "Flag this comment" option on AB.
The fastest way to have that bad comment removed is to contact a Community Leader who's currently online. Community Leaders have the ability to delete offensive comments on the spot.
