Answer to:
How can there be 120% vitamin C in a bottle of orange juice?
The amount of vitamin C in one serving of OJ (assuming this is true, I don't know) would provide 120% according to the RDA for vitamin C, which I used to know... I don't think that's true though, unless you've got some super-OJ.

It all goes by so fast. That's what gets me. I do miss loved ones, but I tend to miss them and remember them all the time, so I can't say that it's worse this time of year. I just hate the thought of having to leave again to go back to school. Mid Dec to Mid Jan cannot pass slowly enough for my taste.

It sounds like you're in junior high or high school, in which case, there is no possible way to reach your audience. Otherwise... in a world where we pretend this isn't homework or an exam... If a person has a mental disorder like bipolor and maybe some form of szhophrinia? (not sure thats spelled right) and when he was in his right mind he got saved and baptized then the mental illness took.does God look on that person as saved still
This question really hits home for me, because I have a family member with paranoid schizophrenia. I don't wish to be found guilty of infantilizing the mentally ill, but at the same time I think their situation is similar to that of children. I just don't think God will hold accountable those who cannot understand/control themselves. That said, I work daily with the mentally ill...

Shiny things will work. At some home and garden stores, you can pick up little clip on vials of vinegar. It's not a harsh deterrent and is naturally occurring (pretty much). You can also light it up like 12 o'clock noon, as they aren't very fond of that.

How is it no matter how hard our ancestors had it they still had enough spite and venom in them to make it that much harder for those not like themselves.. and has anything changed?
I have to say that what our ancestors had was a difficult time surviving. In such situations, group cohesion is what matters. This naturally develops significant pressure to participate and conform. It was a survival measure; certainly not "spite and venom."
Now? I think it's very difficult to go back once these measures have been developed. Just like physical evolution,...

Doctors will scan the brain and try to remove the tumor surgically (also, though the growth can be aggressive, if I remember correctly, they tend to be benign). With home modification, people suffering from Pituitary Gigantism can live normal...
Answer to:
Do people with learning disabilities get equal access to further education?
I think it depends on the severity and the disability, and of course, the person's choice. I actually had a lot of friends in undergrad who were severely dyslexic, and four friends with Aspberger's. Three of them have graduated, one is due to graduate next year. They've all been very successful.

If you have a child that you don't think is attractive, and they ask you if you think they are pretty, cute, etc, what would you say? Would you lie or tell them the truth?
I don't think my parents ever told me I was pretty or cute. I'm no supermodel, but I'm not Quasimodo, either. Now every five minutes they'd tell me that I'm smart, that I made a good decision. I think these things are far more important to reinforce and they stay with a child longer.

Yes, I worked at a community center on the "bad side of town" this summer, and made myself not trust anyone. Good thing. I didn't confront, it was over something stupid and happened almost every day. I think that in a more professional environment it would probably have hurt me more, though.

Answer to:
Can narcotic painkillers cause Erectile Disfunction?
In fact, they can (It really disturbs me that this is the third ED question I've answered inside an hour). Narcotics obviously slow the body down and depending on which particular narcotic we're talking about, the effect is due either to restriction of blood flow or a general neurological slowing-down.

If a man experiences problems with erectile dysfunction (ED) when taking high cholesterol and high blood pressure medications, is the only cure another pill for the ED?
It's a REALLY bad idea to combine an ED drug with hypertension drugs. The interaction can be lethal (which your doctor will tell you to cover his/her @$$). They are all vaso-dilators (blood vessel openers), and too much of that will really wear a person out, and fast). Honestly, what I would recommend (and I'm 98% sure your doc will say the same) is to maybe cut some animal product...

I never do a turkey that small for my family (we're usually feeding upward of 12). This year, I am very excited to say, I will be spending the "holiday" at my grandparents' home playing cards and dominoes and drinking hot cocoa.

Do cannibals still exist?
There has never been any CONCLUSIVE evidence that the groups in places such as PNG ever truly practiced cannibalism. For all we know, because the act was never witnessed, it was just a story they told to run out outsiders who were invading their space. What we do know is that there are now suburban, middle-class, usually white men in the US who kill people, butcher them and keep them in the...

It might sound horrible, but yes. For twelve years (but easing up recently, God bless medication) I have had the most awful time of my "time" if you know what I mean. Anal cuts for 10 months now. Been to a doctor and a specialist. Told me to change my diet, and I did. Fiber and water all the time. BM every day now, and I'm still in excruciating pain every time, and I can see the cuts now if I look down there. HELP!!!
Keep a careful balance with the fiber, don't overdo or you'll be worse off. You can put lotion on your tp, or use aloe baby wipes. You might add topical creme. Go to the pharmacy and look around. Make sure cetyl alcohol (or any other alcohol) isn't very far up the ingredient list on the product you suggest. If you aren't shy, you can ask the pharmacist.

If you're interested in it, keep it. There's certainly plenty of material out there. I'm sure you can write and deliver a good, solid presentation on it. By the way (you will need to know this later), when you are writing, all punctuation goes inside the quotation marks. Best of luck!

Well, presumably they'll realize that they're going to the doctor A LOT. I'd be honest through the whole process. Is drinking a lot of tea bad for you?
Tea is a diuretic, which means it dehydrates you. It also contains caffeine, which isn't great for you. It's really bad for you if you're putting a lot of sugar in your tea. That said, there are a lot of good things in tea, also. So my suggestion is in all things moderation, drink enough water to counterbalance the tea, and make sure you're not overdoing the sugar.

What is the origin of the Mexican food a Burrito? I have thought that Chinese immigrants in the 1800's may have inspired it with the egg roll. Anyone have any facts.
Well, sometimes, when a male burro and a female burro love each other very much, they play "find the canoli" and months later, a burrito is born.

Answer to:
We only buy organic milk, but lately we've bought milk both whole and nonfat, which had a slimy, mucous-like consistency that is really creeping me out. The milk is not sour, or even near the expiration date. What's causing this?
I hate to tell you this, but milk really is mucous. That said, it could be related to store or farm conditions. I have quit buying olives this year because the drought is making them waxy. Try a different brand.

What's the best presentation you ever gave in high school or college?
I have never been comfortable with presenting, but I gave a REALLY awesome presentation of my thesis in anthropology my senior year of undergrad. If theses got standing ovations, that one would have. I felt GREAT about it, and my formerly worried professors did, too. It was on memorial stickers on vehicles.

As someone who used to do that for a living, I can say PLEASE DO SOMETHING THAT WILL AT LEAST MAKE THEM LAUGH, TOO. I SPENT TOO MANY LUNCH BREAKS CRYING IN MY CAR. That being said, the whole listening to the sales pitch followed by a, "Credit card? They don't let me have credit cards anymore after the incident," usually works.

If a kid tries to bite you, but has a disability, how would you handle the situation? (Kid is strong, and for a first grader reaches 4 feet at least, situations like this are unpredictable)
This is a difficult situation. I work with elderly adults who have dementia and frequently have the same problem. You just have to wrestle as gently as possible and know they're clean.

How much would you pay someone who fed your fish when you were away on vacation? I had a boy feed my fish for a week and I don't know what to pay him.
I'm cheap. For $11 at WalMart, you can get a battery operated fish feeder that's good for four weeks. I pay the neighbor kid $5 (I'm a grad student) and unlimited access to my apt. in my absence (he's in high school, and his mother's a total *&^%$) to make sure my kitty has food and water and a little company and make sure the turtles' filter doesn't clog.

Do you think that positive stereotypes are just as damaging as negative stereotypes (e.g. all Asians are good at Math)?
They may not be as hurtful, but it's still kind of ignorant. While many might argue that stereotypes are at least based in reality, I wouldn't live and die by any of them, positive or negative.

How do I approach my roommate (best friend) that she needs to help me clean the place?? She never cleans and she has an anger problem so whenever I try to ask her to do something she gets mad at me... HELP!!
There is nothing you can do to make her feel good about it. I had just that kind of roommate. When I brought it up, she'd always get mad and quit talking to me. Once, I said let's clean and she agreed. I started, and she bailed and was gone all day and all night for two days. She came back to a clean place. She was mad, but she got over it. I just couldn't take a semester...

I'm so sick of people using "I was drunk!" as an excuse. Does this annoy anyone else or does anyone think this is a viable reason?
It's very annoying. If you are the type who doesn't remember what you do, you should stop drinking. Eventually the alcohol will become an excuse for all manner of comely behavior.

My boyfriend's sister's fiance isn't having a stag night. He told my boyfriend that they would leave that until he gets married. My boyfriend told him he's not getting married... until I decide. What do you make of that?
It sounds like your boyfriend's sister's fiance is very considerate of her and respects her very much. ++ to him. It sounds like there must be some bad blood between the boyfriend and the fiance. Unless the brother has some sort of unnatural sway on his sister, he probably won't actually stop anything. Still, not a very good situation.

Answer to:
Is taking 2 Tylenol followed an hour later by 1-2 alcoholic drinks really that harmful -especially if its done only a couple times a month?
I certainly wouldn't make a habit of it. It all depends on whether or not Tylenol is metabolized in the liver (I can't remember if it's that or kidneys) as to exactly how harmful it is. Alcohol messes with the liver and the kidneys significantly, dehydrating you and forcing through chemicals that are foreign to your body. Tylenol helps your inflammation, but basically it does...

How do they measure the turbucolosis shot they give you on the arm?
They will look for irritation when you go back to have it read. Some doctors will circle the shot with permanent marker to see how far the infection grows. I am assuming you are either around my age or younger since you don't know this. Tuberculosis hasn't been nearly as big a thing with our generation as it was with those who went before us.

Should there be a "Death" sentence in New Zealand for crimes like murder .. rape .. and pedophiles?? .. for one I think the law is to soft on some crimes here?
I think you could throw them to the sharks, if they can swim long enough.
Really, sometimes the death sentence is a good thing, sometimes not so much. I think if all options for evidence have been exhausted--or if the case is really obvious--it's a go. On the other hand, in the US we have criminals who ASK for the death penalty, rather than be beaten and raped in prison until they...

There are all sorts of details that might have gotten left out, or other crimes that were committed along the way. As far as I know, there is not way to actually reverse double jeopardy. It could be useful to make such a law, but it could also be dangerous.

I don't pretend to be an authority, or to know the answer, but I'll give you the best I've got. Remember the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus? (Luke 16:19-31) They died not too far apart (Lazarus first). Lazarus went to be with the heroes of the faith and the Rich Man was in torment. I got a good thing at WalMart earlier this year. It has since run out. It was a bunch of little scented gel beads in a plastic container. We didn't do so hot the first time. We probably could, but it would look a LOT different and we'd take a good long while to recover. I know it's bad form to answer a question with a question, but I think it's appropriate in this case.

Ah, the eternal question. Let's face it, when you're miserable, what's the most annoying thing on the face of the earth? A happy person! And when you're happy, what's the most annoying thing on earth? A miserable person who is trying to bring you down.

Answer to:
Why is it that we only really and truly appreciate people after they have died?
Perhaps because of the finality of death. We know that they will never do those things that were so awesome again... in this world. My family doesn't really have this problem, but I do know several that do. I think the same holds true for famous dead people, by the way.
Answer to:

Would you be offended if a perfect stranger put flowers on the grave of your loved one?
Not in the least. I did a lot of my research in a cemetery when writing my thesis in archaeology. I used to do that sort of thing all the time. It just means they're respecting the dead--better than taking a baseball bat to a headstone any day, and I HAVE had to repair the headstones of relatives before.

Have you ever watched a movie you saw as a youth (for me it was the 80's) again now that you are a parent and wonder... why did my parents let me watch that? Would you let your kids watch it at the age you did?
My parents were VERY strict with what I got to watch, perhaps less so with my brother. As they always tell me, I was the experimental one. I figure I will be just as strict. I don't think it hurt me in any way. I'm sure I benefited from watching very little tv/movies.
Congrats on the thirteen years, by the way. It's quite an accomplishment.

What is a good brand for a wireless router? What should I look for when purchasing one? (I have hughesnet satellite internet) Will I need to purchase a card seperately for my desktop, or will there be one included with the router?
It all depends on where you live, etc. I have a Belkin which is cost-efficient, if not the best, but I live in an apartment that is little and not well insulated, so I don't really need the most awesome wireless router in existence to broadcast signal. Netgear is good, so is Linksys... it really just depends on your needs--how far you need to shoot signal, etc. I haven't seen any...

Keep the doggy. Most people who are killed by guns in their homes are killed by their own guns. No kidding. The intruder can get there before you. I keep a CO2 airsoft pistol, which though non-lethal is at least painful enough to slow an intruder down and if aimed at the eyes or other sensitive regions...

The question becomes much more complicated when it's family. There is a certain obligation to family, and you sure can't say anything... at least if it's like my family. What I've found in my family is that if you catch the uncontrolled child in a bad enough situation, your kids will become disgusted by the behavior. You can discipline your kids when they act out around...

I'm not sure I've ever had an outstanding one--I don't really like lentils. I can, however, think of one that makes me throw up a little in my mouth every time I remember it. Suffice it to say, my dad brought me the recipe and the recently slain caribou. The fresh, bloody meat really put it over the edge. That smell will be with me to my dying day.

I have a 3-day-old bunny who has a swollen hind leg. I saw her mama step on her but I really feel guilty because I also accidentally dropped the baby bunny when I was about to return her to their nest. :-( What should I do?
With one that young, I'd either call or take to the vet. Don't feel so bad, accidents happen. You'll get her taken care of.

How come most americans are against fox hunting and most british people are against wolf hunting but it doesn't go vice versa?
I don't know much about the fox hunting situation, but it seems to be culturally significant. As for the wolves, they are pests (killing and eating livestock, also, they pose a threat to any small children once their presence has been confirmed on a farm). The reason people are against the custom of the others' is they don't fully understand the reasoning behind the practice.

LADIES: My penis is about 5 inches long with a girth of about 3 inches - would you have sex with me knowing this?
I don't know. Are you buying dinner? Kidding... really, this isn't enough information. Really, I'm probably not the best answer-er for this, but I think I can safely say, size isn't the primary consideration when a woman goes looking for a lover. For me, I would need an emotional connection. For others, technique is important.

Yes, there is a wanna be CNA (who hasn't actually gotten the training) who likes to think that because I just started at THAT institution, I don't have a clue in hell as to what I should be doing or how my job is to be done. What kills me is I'm pretty sure she goes and hides in a vacant room for 8 hours, because I don't see her unless she's telling me I'm doing...

No. I'm not even sure there are real "sides" to this issue. It's very individual--because it's very personal. Yes, it's easy to see the people screaming at both extremes, but I believe the majority of the population is at neither of those extremes.

Okay, I've been passing over this question all night. It's a REALLY bad and unhealthy idea to starve yourself no matter your size. If you are seriously wanting to lose some weight, your doctor is your best friend. They're smart people, them doctors.

Iam black skin dude and i get serious razor bump every time i shaved. can someone help? what if i use permanent hair removal method? is it dangerous?
I also have very sensitive skin. Again, a weird solution, but you could try surgi-gel products, make sure they specify "for face." I wouldn't do anything permanent. There is also shave gel specifically for "sensitive areas." You might try that.

Does anyone close to you have Alzheimers? how do you cope with it?
My dear neighbor and my great-uncle have AD. I work in assisted living on the secure dementia hall, so I'm around it a lot. What I've found is that although they are changing, the important thing is to ensure their comfort and happiness. You have to meet them where they are.
As far as coping goes, I've found that a good sense of humor will go a long way. There is no magic...

The teacher say's your child is the smartest in her class, but she feels the child is not socially ready to move forward and wants to hold them back. But she needs your approval, what do you do?
My brother went through this. I would suggest another opinion--someone who is trained in child psychology. They stuck my brother in the gifted class a year ahead of where he was supposed to be, and he did just fine.

Answer to:
How is a good way to brake up?
Brake? The pedal on the left.
Now, to break up, just be honest. It's never going to be pretty or comfortable, but you can minimize the pain by being straightforward. The whole, "I've met somebody else," is a good line to fall back on if you need to get out quick, but I wouldn't recommend it; especially if you've been in a long relationship.
Answer to:
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using subtitles?
I keep subs on my tv at all times. If you are on the phone with someone you'd rather not be, it can help out. I also don't like to keep the tv volume very loud, so that helps me keep it soft. I live alone, so I eat in front of the tv most of the time, and I can read the dialog if I'm eating something crunchy.
Sometimes it obscures the screen if I'm actually paying...

An Aussie store has fired a 'loyal' manager who spent 18 years working for the chain, after he was caught having two pots of beer over lunch. Do you think this is fair or unreasonable?
It was only fair if he was on company time or was going back to work. Still, people with more power and influence do worse every day.

That is a migraine symptom... one I get frequently. I call it "the light show." There's really nothing you can do for it. I'm afraid to drive when I get that way, so it's a wasted day for me.

Former Tomboys:
Did you get an uncomfortable feeling inside your stomach when you first changed into a girly girl? What did you do to make that go away, but still act like a girl? What would be the best way to handle that?
I was a tom-boy, but looking back I wish I had played dress up or played with dolls--so I work with folks with Alzheimer's Disease, and now I get to play with dolls. No, really... you'll probably just work out a balance between the tomboy and the girl in you, that's about what I've done.

What year has been the hardest for you to get through so far? What happened during that year that made it so difficult?
Dang, I don't even feel like I should post after reading all that. It has been a difficult year for me. Lots of transitions and changes, several deaths of people who have meant a lot to me (people I know through church and various activities), graduating college, starting grad school and working (and the financial situation implicit in that arrangement), moving away from all my family...

People have been saying that AB is NOT about the POINTS. If that's the case, should we just abolish the points and rankings system altogether? Don't give me points for this one, I won't give you any too.
I don't think points are the focus of AB, but I don't think they should be done away with. I do get aggravated when I lose points, though. ;-) Don't we all?

Dose any one knwo where to get none latex condome my girl it alegric to latex
I have the same sensitivity. Though I am not sexually active, a group of my girlfriends get me a box of non-latex condoms every year as a gag gift. I'm sure you can just pick them up at the drug store. Read thoroughly, and if you can't figure it out, ask the pharmacist.
Also, would it kill to reread what you've typed before you hit "submit?"
Answer to:
What is the oldest a human has lived to? (That we have proof of, no biblical references, I want a factual answer, please)
It's difficult to answer this, because for many of the oldest old, their records have been destroyed in war or natural disaster. So we have nothing other than their 100+ year old minds to go on. So be careful what you read, because usually we just don't know.

Yes, it's terrible. Also, working in assisted living, I know lots of families of elderly who are struggling for money. A shame, you would think that there comes a time in life where you could just expect to be taken care of. No questions asked.

I was wondering, when is it "ok" to have sex without a condom? I'm referring to the entire "that time of the month" thing. I've heard as long as its within two days after you've started and two days before you end?
Never, never. Weird crap happens all the time, and personally, I know my luck. Rhythm birth control totally worked for my grandparents, they only had three accidental pregnancies. (please note the sarcasm)
