Is there such a thing as "mis-speak"? Don't you have to think it before you say it...so " mis-speak " is what you really think?
Well, sometimes the thing in your head isn't exactly the thing that comes out of your mouth. Could be your tongue tripped or you got distracted. Happens to the best of us.

Do those who believe "you get out of life what you put into it" really get more out of life than those who think that saying is untrue?
People probably believe it because they tried it and found it to be true, at least for themselves. So they most likely do. ^_^
Answer to:
In Japanese the same word "kumo" is used for cloud and spider. Any ideas on why this is?
Probably for the same reason English uses the same adjective to describe just-picked vegetables and smart-mouth kids: fresh.
Or for a closer example, not-cooked bread and a female deer: dough/doe. Written different, sounds the same.

When is it appropriate to correct someone who made an error, even though you understood what was really meant correctly anyway?
I'm learning Japanese, and I ask my Japanese friends (who would otherwise NEVER consider doing such a thing, as it comes across as rude) to please correct me if I say something the wrong way, because if no one corrects me, how will I get it right?

what is the derivation of the tennis terms, "love," & "ad,"?

I had a guy dress in drag for me once. He made SUCH a pretty girl! It totally flipped my "lesbian switch" and I pretty much shoved him onto the bed and just about DEVOURED him. Oooo, that was awesome. Too bad my current boy could NEVER be convinced to do anything similar.

Why and how did the place names (cities, countries, etc.) become different in different languages?
In a lot of cases it's because zillions of years ago, Tribe A called itself "The People" in its language, whereas Tribe B called itself "The People" in ITS language, and each called the other some permutation of "Them Over There" in their respective languages.
To simplify: A calls themselves @@@@, which means "Children of the Earth". They call B &&&&, which means "People Who...

Why is Christianity still thought of as uncool?
Religion doesn't (or shouldn't, anyway) have a "coolness factor". I know cool Christians, cool Jews, cool pagans, cool agnostics, cool atheists, cool all sorts of people. Their beliefs have very little to do with how cool they are. In fact, one of the coolest things about ALL these people is that they don't find it necessary to ram their religious beliefs down anyone else's throat.

Well, since due to the wording of your question we can safely assume he's straight, I would say that in bed, he probably likes a naked woman to whom he is attracted who wants to sleep with him. I guess that would be you! Guys are guys. People who like random freaky stuff like it on an individual basis, not a racial one, so if there's anything like that he'll just have to tell you. ^_^

If you are Wiccan or Pagan, what types of offerings do you present to your God(s)?
I always liked to buy mooncakes from the Asian market in my town, and leave them in the backyard (when I'd TOTALLY rather eat them myself). That was always very personally meaningful, couldn't tell you why. ^_^
Answer to:
Do you still follow the same belief system (religious, spiritual, atheist, lack thereof, whatever...) that you were raised with?
I was raised Roman Catholic, and sometimes I think if I'd been raised with almost ANY other branch of Christianity (let's NOT go into the whole "Catholicism isn't Christianity" thing- if they worship Jesus as the Savior and son of God, they're Christian) I might still be Christian now.

What God or Goddess, from any religion, would you say was the most unforgiving? Why?
Hera. Look up what happened to Zeus' many mistresses and their children by him. The "Dr. Laura" thing: Was the caller sensitive or "hypersensitive"?
Regardless of my opinion that NO ONE, "enough melanin" or otherwise, should *ever* use that word, I think that unless "Dr." Laura could safely assert that the caller herself had been using that term, she had NO business telling the caller she was "hypersensitive". If this chick wants to advise people, she'd be better served as a consultant to the Phelps clan, or somesuch.

Now that Constance McMillen won the right for girls to wear tuxes to the prom, should boys be able to wear dresses and/or gowns to the prom?
Why not? I knew a guy at my HS who wore a skirt to school a couple of times. He wanted to fight for his skirt-wearing rights, and was sad to discover he already had them. ^_^

How to avoid having impure thoughts? I see women presenting their bodies in a variety of ways What is a good way to ignore this and avoid having lecherous and impure thoughts? For example a cute girl co-worker's breast cleavage or woman at restaurant
Does it really matter? As long as you don't stare at a woman's breasts while talking to her, or say/do lecherous and insulting THINGS, you can go ahead and have all the thoughts you want.
But really- "displaying"? What, should women go around in burqas to quiet your lustful brain? People dress the way they dress. Sometimes they are indeed inviting you to look. Feel free to look, and to...

Depends. Usually I stop. I was heading to a concert of my favorite band once and on the train I saw a girl with REALLY cool hair. Answer to:
What is your response to someone who is unkind for no reason? Strike back or ignore/ avoid such a person in the future?
Depends on the situation. I'd either ignore it or strike back sharply once, and *then* ignore it (usually when someone has said something bigoted that I don't feel I can let slide).
On occasion I'll keep up a dialogue for as long as it amuses me, if I feel the person is being particularly obtuse.
Answer to:
If you thought someone were aggravating wouldn't you simply ignore/avoid the person? Why continue to go back to the source of your pique?
Some people can't stay away from people that bother them- the annoyance has to be BEATEN, not avoided or finessed. The mere existence of the annoyance just tickles at the back of their brain, so they go and exchange words to see if they can get rid of the problem. But what they really want is to make that person either change (to be not-aggravating) or disappear, and that's usually terribly...

Yup, I've started learning Chinese and I'm wondering if the two languages share a lot of characters or something. :)

Have u ever said something, then realizing it sounded extremely sexual ???
I once wrote a poem about a dance and was told later the ENTIRE thing read like a lyrical description of the sex act. I was MORTIFIED.

Answer to:
Have you ever wished you were born of parents other than your own?
Yeah, even though I'm an adult now I still kinda do. As a kid it was a pretty serious "my REAL mommy and daddy are a princess and a prince and they're coming to GET me!" thing, but I ran out of hope as I got older. Now it's just kind of a wistful, "if these guys weren't my parents there's a chance my childhood wouldn't have sucked." They still act like dicks and I'm still hurt by them on a...
Answer to:
Have you ever gone skinny dipping with a member of the opposite sex, who you were not romantically attached to?
No, but one evening me and three friends decided to play strip Uno (trust me, virtually ANY game can be made into a 'strip' version), and when we were all naked, we had dinner, watched a movie, and then one guy went to his room, the other guy and his girlfriend went to theirs, and I crashed on the couch. Next morning we got up, got dressed, and went to class. It was a very normal night,...

Answer to:
Have you ever wished you were a member of the opposite sex and why?
I occasionally wish I could be a guy for 24 hours or so, just to see what it's like. But I'd be pissed if I couldn't turn back- I may not be a *typical* female, but I am perfectly comfortable and happy to be one.
Answer to:
Have you ever wished you had LESS sex in your life?
Nope. I tire out my significant others on a regular basis. ^_^
Answer to:
In what bizarre way have you been injured?
I once managed to stab myself with a tagging gun (I was at work) that SOMEONE ELSE was holding. She didn't stab me- I stabbed MYSELF. She was just holding the gun. I'm so frickin' talented. ^_^
Answer to:
Is there a musician or band out there that you secretly like?
No. I like all my music quite openly. People tell me I'm a lunatic on a fairly regular basis- some for the contemporary a cappella, some for the J-Pop. Which is fine by me. ^_^
Answer to:
Is sexual education a failure?
"Abstinence Only" education is. To paraphrase Terry Pratchett, that's like refusing to let your kids learn self-defense because you think that means no one will ever attack them.
Answer to:
You ever go out...get drunk...come home, and then for some weird reason logg on to the internet, and do/say something you wish u hadn't?
No, but I once drunk-texted my ex-girlfriend by accident. I forget exactly what I said... something about being stupid for splitting with her. Not that I was lying, but I didn't mean to TEXT it to her. ^_^
Answer to:
Are you YDLOM?
I dunno- what does backward mold look like?
Answer to:
A freezing mixture is normally prepared by mixing some common salt with ice. Assign reason.
Salt lowers the freezing point of water, I believe, so salty water can get colder than 32 degrees fahrenheit without freezing. (This is my understanding- could be wrong. ^_^)
Answer to:
Have you ever done something against your partner and you are still regreting in your life?
Not my current partner. My first girlfriend and I split because I was cheating on her. Granted, she'd stopped having sex with me completely- we'd become like roommates who shared a bed. But she's a good person and was, other than the sex thing, a *wonderful* significant other, and she didn't deserve that from me.
We're both paired up with other people, and we're friends now, but to be...
Answer to:
What is your favorite Whoopi Goldberg movie? I like the "Sister Act" movies the best...
Oooo, "Corrina, Corrina", "Soapdish", also the "Sister Act" ones... but my VERY favorite, if you're not strictly sticking to movies, was Whoopi as Guinan in Star Trek: The Next Generation. (I know she was in the 9th movie, "Generations", but I thought that movie sucked so hard I'd rather not think about it.)

Answer to:
Should someone that had an affair, knowing he is married, be able to post pictures of them on a public site?
If a married idiot wishes to post evidence of his or her guilt for the universe to see, then why not? At least then the spouse will have a good case for divorce- excellent if there's a prenup. ^_^
Answer to:
What's the weirdest threat you've ever used or heard? Serious or not, just the weirdest. My answer below. ^_^
I'm mixed-race, and my mom used to occasionally threaten to "slap the black off of me". I also used to keep little kids in line at various jobs I had by telling them I'd tape them to the ceiling. It's just outrageous enough that it wouldn't upset them, but they were never quite sure whether or not I was serious, so they tended to behave, although they did look at me a little oddly.

If you've spent time in hospital did you keep in contact with any of the doctors or nurses you met? Or what about other patients?
I was locked up on a psych unit for a while. I strongly disliked most of the staff- they were barely saner than the patients. But there was one other patient who was relatively normal, just someone who had issues, like me, and we ended up spending a lot of time together 'cause we were the only ones really capable of having a coherent conversation. And as it turned out, she was pretty cool....
Answer to:
Have you ever done something bad/naughty/kinky while house-sitting at someone's home?
My ex-girlfriend kept parrots and suchlike, so she used to housesit for a friend of hers who also kept birds, when she went on vacation. Whenever that happened she'd have me over, 'cause we never had alonetime anywhere else. My house had no privacy, and her parents were scarily homophobic and hated their daughter for her gayness.
So when her friend went away, I'd stay over and we'd screw...

When I was 18 I was walking back to my dorm from tthe grocery store at 8 p.m., having spent my last $10 on milk (for cereal), sharp cheddar cheese and french fries (I make mean cheese fries! ^_^). I was listening to a Best of Elton John CD on my Discman, and suddenly I felt someone grab me by the back of the neck.

What's your favorite comedy show?
It's not on anymore, but "Kids In The Hall". That show kept me SANE for the two years I spent pretty much locked in my room because I was so depressed I couldn't stand to be around people.
Answer to:
What is the biggest mistake you've seen in a movie that made you feel so fustrated?
I only saw the previews, but this is why I REFUSE to see the movie:
White people in most of the main roles of "The Last Airbender".
::cries::
This is worse than casting "Memoirs of a Geisha" with Chinese people (although "Memoirs" pushed it over the "WTF?" edge by putting the movie in English with Japanese accents, and changing the freaking PLOT- I walked out halfway through).

What's your favorite or most disliked religious bumper sticker/advertisement you've seen?
I always liked "Don't take your organs to heaven- heaven knows we need them here!"
I try not to remember the ones I don't like, usually because they make me angry and I'm well aware that getting angry about a bumper sticker is ridiculous.
I do like the "Darwin fish" ones, though. ^_^

Do you remember the first name of the main charachter in the book you last read?
Weili was her Chinese name, Winnie her English one. She started out as Jiang Weili, and ended up Winnie Louie. The book was "The Kitchen God's Wife". And right now I'm reading about two Catherines and Heathcliff and Hindley and Isabella and Nelly and Hareton and Linton... I bet you can guess what I'm reading now! ^_^
Answer to:
Based on what you see in the media, what percentage of men are the victims of domestic violence?
Mind you, my vote is based on WHAT YOU SEE IN THE MEDIA, as per the question. I'm pretty sure it's a good deal higher, and that most men who are the victims of domestic abuse are too ashamed to report it, which is unfortunate, because their abusers ought to be brought to justice like any other one.

I didn't vote, because I'd say talk about it, and if that doesn't work, break up with him. I had a girlfriend a few years ago who all of a sudden went crazy paranoid and needed to know where I was and who I was with every second of every day. If I said another girl looked pretty in something she was wearing, I was automatically "checking her out". When some friends and I teased another...
Answer to:
How do you feel about age discrimination?
There're so many kinds of age discrimination, though... but I think they're all uncalled for. My own mother thinks I'm a creeper because I relate better to my 21-year-old boyfriend than to guys my own age (I'm 30). HIS parents think that if we ever have kids, I'll be "too old to raise them properly". Riiiiight, 'cause everyone goes senile at 45 and dies at 50.

I am racially ambiguous. People can't decide my ethnicity and that can be frustrating sometimes. Anyone has the same problem?
I'm the product of a mixed marriage (white mother, black father) and I used to think if I heard one more person say "What are you?" to me I'd go mad.
But my favorite answer to a question like that is, "Species Homo sapiens sapiens, gender female. Why?" Makes 'em CRAZY. ^_^

What is it in people that causes some to want to share their good fortune while others not only don't share but want more for themselves?
I don't know... I usually am scrambling just to make sure I have the rent paid and enough to keep fed for the month, but whenever something happens and I have extra money, my first instinct is always to take someone out to lunch, or buy someone a present, or somesuch. I don't know about *them*. Me, I'd be making all kinds of donations and whatnot were I not so damned poor. Why do people feel the urge to committ suicide?
People who attempt/commit suicide don't necessarily want to die. It's that they're in so much pain that they can't handle it anymore, and they can't see any other way to stop it.
If you've ever had some body part hurt a lot and made a joke about wanting to cut it off, then you have an idea of how it works. Just pretend that the pain is bad enough that it DOES make you cut that part off....

Why is an aversion to sex a "disorder" if that fear protects you from diseases and harm? Makes it much easier to be celibate!
I would only call it a "disorder" if it's fear that's causing it. If you're averse to sex simply because you lack interest in it, then that's just the way you're wired and there's nothing weird or unnatural about it- I have a friend like that. She'd rather have a dog than a significant other, only because she lacks interest in a sexual or romantic relationship with *anyone*. I don't find...
Answer to:
You are a psychiatrist. A male patient is deeply disturbed and disgusted by his horny, lustful thoughts! How would you help him be normal?
Who says he isn't? I have horny, lustful thoughts all the time, and I don't feel disgusted by them. They're just there. He needs to feel more comfortable in his own brain, and to learn to accept himself as 'normal' (whatever that means) just as he is. In my not-so-humble opinion, anyway. ^_^
Answer to:
Do lesbians categorically hate all men? My psychiatrist says this is true.
So, does my being bisexual mean I categorically love everyone? Your shrink is either stupid, lying, or in need of psychiatric care. ^_^
Answer to:
what is it called when you dont have a instres in men or wemen? I am 17 now and I dont have a intrest in men or wemen.
I have a friend who says she'd rather have a dog than a significant other. She refers to herself as asexual, because she has no interest in a sexual or romantic-type relationship with ANYONE. Which is perfectly normal in its way.
Answer to:
What frightens you the most about people?
The terrible things they are able to consciously inflict upon other human beings and essentially not care. I love people so much that the horrible things they do to other people make me hate them.

My sister made up the word "fishimpkin" (I may not be spelling it right- I know the 'p' goes there, and it's pronounced "fuh-SHIM-kin").
When a woman gets her period unexpectedly and doesn't have a pad or tampon on hand, she is forced to 'invent' a sanitary napkin with toilet paper or somesuch. That's a fishimpkin.
I can pretty much certify that ALL menstruating women have done this at least...

Why do people say "brand new" about something they buy? The thing may not be brand name of something, and its never really that new- people in the store have touched it/tried it on/etc..
The origin may be from the practice of branding newborn cattle right away so they couldn't easily be stolen. But I could be wrong.

I only say "pardon my French" after having yelled "MERDE!" or somesuch. If I say "scheisse" I ask to have my German pardoned, if I say "kuso" you'll have to pardon my Japanese. I don't really care who gets offended by my cussing in English, so I don't ask for pardon. ^_^

Regardless of the language being spoken, even if it's your native tongue, do you ever enjoy just sitting back and listening to people speak (to the sounds of the words, the dialects and accents, etc.)?
I like listening to my Chinese boyfriend speak to his parents on the phone in their native dialect. I'm learning Mandarin, but the language they speak is WILDLY different- I only ever catch words like "I", "Mom", "Dad", and "girlfriend" (he argues with his mom about me pretty regularly). I don't know what it is about it that makes it such fun to listen to, but it is. I never enjoyed...

Answer to:
What's your favorite curse word/phrase from another language other than your native tongue?
Kuso! It literally means "fecal matter" in Japanese, but it's nowhere near as strong as "sh*t" is in English. Little kids say it, and it's often added to other words as an intensifier. "Hetakuso" = "REALLY bad (at something)".

Which Chinese language are we talking here? Or do you mean all of 'em? There're a STACK, you know, and they're wildly different from one another.
Assuming you meant Mandarin, though, I'd be pretty psyched, 'cause then I could finally converse with my boyfriend's parents.
Answer to:
Are you or do you know anyone who is prejudiced against people because of their profession? What profession? Why?
My ex-boyfriend has it in for cops because he says all cops are 'dirty' (as in dishonest and/or somehow on the take), and doctors because he says they purposely allow people to die in order to collect organs for transplant. That sort of ridiculousness always infuriated me. Not to mention that he insisted that this sort of thing isn't bigoted, which is just nonsense.
Answer to:
How do you define a 'miracle'? Have you ever seen one?
I think anything amazing and wonderful that happens counts as a miracle. Babies, flight, love, sunsets, or even just a really great cup of tea. My getting the wherewithal to clean the house is actually pretty miraculous, too. Or the beautiful contented feeling I get when I see my boyfriend walk in the door. I'm not trying to be ironic or sarcastic, and I'm not particularly religious....

My real given name is long and French, and my real surname is plain and boring. I'd like to be Shiranami Michie (my user identity here) in real life.

Would you/have you named a child after you or your partner? Why/Whynot?
My boyfriend is Chinese, so I might name a daughter "Jin" for him, just using a different, more 'feminine' character. I'd not name a child after myself, because my name is long and French and no one can say it right, which makes me NUTS.

Which "H" boys' name do you prefer out of the following? Harper, Hayden, Holden, Howie, or Hunter?
Harper, in my mind, has more of a female flavor to it.
Hayden does too, and is also one of the names my sister and I use to refer to obnoxious little rich nanny-raised girls who behave like psychos in public.
Holden makes me think of that creep from "Catcher In The Rye".
Howie just rubs my brain the wrong way.

Answer to:
What is the most ridiculous name that you've ever herd a child named?

Answer to:
When you think of the names that suburban parents name their children, what boy and girl names come to mind?
Hayden for a girl, Connor for a boy.
My sister and I use those names as "catch-alls" for the rich, obnoxious, nanny-raised children who behave like little psychos in public. Nothing against people with those names, just a running joke.

Answer to:
J-Pop and other modern Japanese pop music sometimes inserts some English words into their lyrics. Why doesn't US pop music generally include Japanese lyrics?
Listen to Scott Leonard's solo work. (He's the lead tenor of Rockapella, for those of us who watched "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?" as kids.) He weaves in Japanese all the time, and occasionally other languages too.
But the reason you get English in so much Japanese music is because English is universally "cool" in Japan, and we have no language of equivalent '"coolness" here, so...

Why (if you do) do you love Naitomea? What's your favourite song by them, and why? (I know, I know, it's in the J-Pop section, there should be a J-Rock section!)

Answer to:
How do people justify blaming peoples actions on the type of music they listen to? is there evidence that could backup a statement like that? Why is heavy metal blamed for mental peoples actions? Hitler listened to Mozart, howcome it doesnt have a stigma?
I listen to Marilyn Manson and the idea of shooting up a school never seemed like something I ought to do. (Mind you, I was bullied my whole life.)
People find it easier to look for outside reasons for the nonsensical and terrible things that other people do. They want to blame television and music when it's really about how someone was raised. I would allow my children to listen to metal...

I would probably kill to defend myself or someone I loved, but in all likelihood my therapist would have to up my sessions to three times a week just to deal with my feeling guilty about it.
Answer to:
Would you rather die for someone? Or have someone die for you?
I don't think I could live with knowing someone died for me, but I would not hesitate to put myself in the way of death if it were coming for someone I loved. I'd gladly step in front of a bullet for my boyfriend, for my sisters, for my best friends.

I personally don't remember this too well (supposedly I've been sick since I was 12), but I've got no reason to disbelieve her.

What do you think of the tradition some mother's have of giving their new born child more than a 1st, 2nd, and last name? Like 4 or 5 names on the birth certificate for one child?
We intend to. I'm American and my boyfriend is Chinese, and any children we have will have both American (first and middle) and Chinese (first and possibly middle) names.

Is being homosexual a choice or what you are born with?
If a heterosexual person can honestly say they could not have chosen to be homosexual, then who has the right to accuse homosexuals of choosing their orientation? If you can be born straight, you can be born gay.

What's your opinion on eyebrow piercings?
I think "Depends on exactly where the piercing is, what the person keeps in it, and what the person looks like" ought to be a poll answer. ^_^

Answer to:
Why do news writer love the word "rape" when talking about a man's actions but avoid it when talking about the same actions by a woman?
Because they're sexist and ridiculous. Rape is rape regardless of who rapes whom. It IS possible for a woman to force a man to have sex against his will, although it doesn't happen often. Assuming she's restrained him, all she needs to do is arouse him- and arousal DOES NOT IMPLY CONSENT. (There's actually an episode of Law & Order: SVU about this very subject.) If a man takes a man by...

Do you know anyone who was supposed to have a baby via c-section BUT their water broke & baby just oozed out naturally instead?
Wow, I have NEVER heard natural childbirth referred to as "oozing". That's quite an interesting mental image.
As far as the question is concerned, my mother was told she'd need a C-section for my baby sister because she was breech, but my sister decided to point head downward at the last minute and was born vaginally.

Why do parents ground their children as a punishment?
These days? I don't know. Kids have video game consoles, computers, cell phones, televisions, etc., so a grounding isn't as serious a punishment as it could be, unless parents make a point of removing all of these things from the punishee's general vicinity. MY mom used to forbid me to read when I did something wrong, and BOY did that get me where I lived. Grounding me made little...

Answer to:
Do you think you should tell a child who was adopted as an infant that they are adopted? Some people think as soon as the child is old enough to understand the concept, that the child should know. Doesn't that "label" them and make them feel different?
If I were to adopt a child, I'd explain that the child were adopted around the time I explained how babies are made. I'd also make sure the child understood that they were CHOSEN, not abandoned.
Answer to:
Should parents be allowed to return an adopted child?
Only if they can be allowed to retun birth children.

What are the most insensitive first names parents you know have named their child to "match" their last name? (see example)
I knew a girl in high school named Holly McCauley, I had a relative named Henderson Harrison, I had another relative whose first and middle names were William Bill, and I knew a guy in high school named Richard Handler (think about it).
Answer to:
Technology has found a way to let your "old" parents have more children. Do you want anymore brothers/sisters? I don't!
I would LOVE a baby sibling. No way that's happening, 'cause I'm 30 and my mom had her tubes tied, but if it did, I'd BEG to be allowed to take care of the baby. I love being a big sister, partially because I've got no kids of my own and I've got an overactive maternal instinct. I have a few very young friends who I 'adopted' as 'sisters', and I do for them the things I'd do for my blood...
Answer to:
What are you plainning to name your children?
I'm American and my boyfriend is Chinese, so any kids we have will be loaded with names. A boy will be Li for his Chinese name (for my boyfriend's mother's maiden name), and Sean Alexander for his American name. Sean for Sean Altman, the founder of Rockapella and the guy who wrote the Carmen Sandiego song (yes, I'm a fangirl) and Alexander because I never met an Alex I didn't like.

Answer to:

Other than handholding or arm around shoulder and/or waist, yes. Public displays of affection are all well and good, but there are limits.
Answer to:
To anyone who is a racial minority, when shopping someplace, did someone assume you were working there when you didn't? How awkward did that feel and how did you react?
That happens to me all the time. I do happen to be a racial minority, but I think it happens because I've worked retail for so long that I've just got some sort of "retail worker stamp" across my face. Also, half the time I USED to work for the chain in question, so sometimes I'm actually able to help even though I'm not an employee.

How many times per day are you asked, "Hi, how are you?" Do you give the same answer each time?
Depending on who's asking, I'll say "Hangin' in" or "Haven't killed anyone yet, so I suppose that's positive." I only say that last one to people I'm already friendly with, and always with an ironic smile. ^_^
Answer to:
What do you do when someone repeatedly calls you the wrong name?
It depends on the circumstances. I have a long French name and an easy nickname. Usually I ask people to use my nickname, but most teachers I let get away with mispronouncing my real name (because that's the name on their attendance lists), but I did ask a French teacher pretty sharply once to call me by my right name, because I didn't think a French teacher should get away with Americanizing...

How do you respond when people get your name wrong?
My real name is long and French and difficult to pronounce, so usually I don't bother introducing myself by it, because I hate hearing it mangled. Do you get frustrated when your telephone predicts ridiculous unheard words when you are looking for simple words?
Mine doesn't, normally. The annoying thing *my* phone does is give me "cup" when I want to say "bus" and "he" for "it". I would think that "bus" and "it" are the more common of the pairs (or at least they are when *I* text), and should therefore be the default. I can't seem to convince my phone of this, though.

I still don't get why so many questions on Answerbag have to do with my least favorite game. "More Oppressed Than Thou" NEVER has a winner. As we are at war with so called terrorists, but in reality we are really at war with the Muslims, why are they not being interred in prisons instead ofbeing allowed to walk about free, when they want nothing more than to destroy freedom.
Implying that all Muslims are terrorists is like implying that all Christians picket soldiers' funerals. What makes dark skin so bad? And pale skin better? Why can't people just see past that?
My favorite line from the book "Roots" is, "The more blackness a woman has, the more beautiful she is."
Whether lighter skin or darker skin is "better" is SO subjective it's not even funny. It's cultural, racial, national, and just personal. If you're being TRULY objective (which no one ever is), the color of one's skin is completely irrelevant.

If I were going to move to a country to live, I would either learn the language ahead of time, or find me some lessons as soon as I got there. Why is racism only one way, only against the coloured people and not against whites?
My best friend when I was a child was a girl whose mother was overly obsessed with their African heritage. The mother tolerated me because I'm half-black, and intensely disliked me because I am half-white. (Interestingly, I'm told this woman is a quarter white herself.)

I do not see Hispanic, Asians, Jews etc referring to themselves by insulting terms. Where I live African American, young more than old, use n***a on eachother at will as if clueless it came from n****r its close cousin. Why would thay want to do that?
No idea whatsoever. I'm a half-black woman and I find that word offensive regardless of who is using it. The only time I ever say it is if I'm quoting someone else, or clarifying how a certain racist statement made me feel. (I describe my feelings about a comment made by an ex-boyfriend's mother like so: "It was the first time I ever knew how it felt to be a n****r.")

Why, or more accurately how, is it that "no man may see the Father and live"? Is it like radiation, or more like a black belt who breaks his wife's nose and says "honey, you know you can't sneak up on me like that"?

It was Zeus' sister and wife, Hera, who tricked her into it, knowing that the very sight of Zeus'...

Answer to:
What is your opinion on that guy who went to prison for hitting a stranger's child?
Good.
Answer to:
Slapping or spanking? Why?Why didn't you choose the other?
Spanking can be seen as disciplinary (if the child is too young to be reasoned with, and they can be reasoned with younger than you think), and slapping is only humiliating, in my mind. There are rarely good reasons to spank, and NO good reasons to slap a child.
Answer to:
Would you discipline your child in public?
If they were acting out in public, yes.

Answer to:
What are the Pros and Cons of Spanking?
Well, on the one hand a swat might be the only thing a child of a certain age or temperament would understand. On the other, it could easily lead to thought processes like "If I want someone to do what I say I should hit them." Depends on the parent, depends on the child, depends on how the spankings are administered (how long, with what) and what kinds of transgressions the spankings are...

Parents: What is something your young child has said or done that he/she should have been in trouble for but it was so funny you couldn't bring yourself to punish them?
This wasn't me or my child, but it's funny anyhow. My little sister was very small (under 5) and my mom pissed her off somehow. She turned all red and started sputtering, "You... you... you... you BUMBLEBEE!" and ran off. Either being made to write sentences ("I shall not [whatever the infraction was] again") in various multiples of 100 (and once 1,000), and being banned from reading (READING!) for a set amount of time.
In the first case, I was only punished like that while prepubescent, and in my mind that's a cruel thing to make a child's small hands do. In the second case, my mom sure knew how to get me...

Answer to:
What can influence a child's behavior?
Everything. Situation, experiences, how the parents behave, how the children at school behave, how the teachers behave, what they see on television, what they see in public. Children soak in information from all possible sources, intentionally and not, and anything a child encounters can affect how it will behave later.

That number of question marks you're using makes it look like you don't think black women HAVE any "benefit". The "benefit" is from what kind of woman she is, not what color she was born. I have heard people say that there is a God, only not the Christian God of Abraham. If this be the case, why would God not want his true identity revealed to the world as a predominate religion like Christianity?
Probably because an all-knowing, all-powerful supreme being is completely indifferent to what a bunch of little planet-crawlers think it ought to be called.
Answer to:
If all the Christian customs originated from earlier religions...why didn't the earlier religions stay instead of Christianity being the predominate world religion?
As Christianity gained popularity, the earlier religions were deemed devil/idol/whathaveyou worship and followers were either forced to convert or killed.
Which is why, among other reasons, I'm not a big fan of organized religion at all.

No one *needs* to be circumcised that I know of. People have their infants circumcised either because of religious reasons or because it's pretty much always been done. It's got nothing to do with what you *should* be, it's what you *are*. And sometimes it takes a while to figure it out. Don't let it bother you. I myself didn't know I was bi till I was 18. Does any body know the name of "Death's" horse / ride
Depending on who you ask, he rides a pale horse named Mortis who can turn into pretty much any kind of vehicle necessary for Death to do what he's gotta (Piers Anthony, 'Incarnations' series), he rides a pale horse named Binky (Terry Pratchett, 'Discworld' series), or she's just the kind of perky gothgirl who likes to walk (Neil Gaiman, 'Sandman' comics).

I know a guy named Richard Rash (Dick Rash) and a guy named Gary B. Nice

What was your favorite game to play with the neighborhood kids growing up? I.E. Tag, Mother May I, Red Light/ Green Light, etc.
We liked Staircase School in my neighborhood, because the houses on our street had a bunch of concrete stairs up to the porches. Oldest kid is the teacher. Everyone else sits in front of the bottom stair- that's "Kindergarten". Teacher asks questions and as the others get them right they ascend in "grade" until someone hits the top, and that's the winner.

I'm browbeating my bf to burn me some DVDs of JPop dance videos ("flipped", or mirrored, so I can mimic and still be correct) so I can learn them. That's pretty much the only exercise my lazy arse is willing to do, but when I have the videos I'll be working with them starting a half hour per day and working up bit by bit from there.

If you're talking birth control, that's not such a good idea. It takes two weeks just for the things to KICK IN, so it makes sense to just make taking your pill daily into a habit, you know? Better safe than sorry.

What’s the funniest name your child has named their stuffed animal?
Well, it's not my kid, but I work in a toy store that has a very involved name-your-animal process. I've seen kids name their new toy monkey "Ee-Ee-Ah-Ah" more than once. A kid named his bear "Ice Cream Bee". And my personal favorite comes from the tendency to name an animal for its looks, like naming a cheetah "Spotty". Well, we have pet dinosaurs....

Why is it so hard to find a woman with a sex drive? Every woman I've ever met never wanted to discuss sex. They've all said that they never ever think about having sex, either. They only want love and romance from a relationship. Is this seriously true?
That's odd. I have trouble finding men who don't eventually say, "Oh, come ON- I'm tired!!" or "Do we HAVE to do it again right this second?" If what you're after is *casual* sex, that might be the problem (although it wouldn't be were I single and you were talking to *me*), but plenty of women in committed relationships that I know of (me...

Why do you think men and women are treated like equals at this time?
Okay, that's my vent for today. Truthfully I think no one should be attacking ANYONE. If I had a son I wouldn't teach him not to hit girls. I'd teach him not to hit girls that DON'T HIT HIM. It depends on the situation. Just *how* bad is the spelling/grammar? Is the person typing a native speaker of English? If a question is peppered with things like "lolz" I tend not to bother. Why do people still call Native Americans and Canadians "Indian"? This term is a misnomer applied by Columbus - and even if you call them "Indian" because they came from Asia, they are more closely related to Mongolian and Russian Natives anyway.
In all likelihood, it's due to force of habit. We still call it a 'funnybone' even though plenty of people know the part that makes it hurt so much is a nerve. When you learn something while you're young, it tends to stay with you later. Lots of us grew up learning that Columbus 'discovered' a land that already had people on it, and that he called them Indians....

I've been called "white girl" by black people for as long as I can remember, and what always confused me was that their problem seemed to be that I was intelligent, got good grades, spoke good English, and couldn't fight for the life of me. It used to upset me to think that even other black people seemed to think that being dumb and violent was a 'black thing', so...

I'd be sick to my stomach most of the time, I think. Opaque skin is nice stuff- it means you don't have to look at the grossness that is the inside of a human body. ^_^

If you immigrate to the united states and want to get a job, shouldnt it be a requirement to speak english?and why should i as a boss have to learn spanish to understand a fellow employee who has no intention of learning english in the us
I am of the opinion that regardless of what language you speak now, if you intend to move to another country and make a life for yourself there, you should either already speak the language passably (not necessarily fluently) or do your damnedest to learn it as soon after getting there as possible. I personally would not THINK of starting a life in, say, Italy, without either knowing basic...
Answer to:
Why do black people act offended by the "N" word but then many of them go up to other black friends and call them the same word and not care?
Most black people act offended because we ARE offended. I personally do not use that word and I ask everyone around me, be they black, white, or purple, to abstain also. I think it's a disgusting word regardless of who uses it. The fact that I'm black doesn't make it magically appropriate.

Ok, this is a serious question, please don't be offended by it. What do black people prefer to be called?
I prefer being called Michie. Sadly, it is not my legal name, so I guess I'm stuck with what my parents gave me (or the nickname my sister gave me), at least until I get around to changing it.
On a more serious note, if someone absolutely HAS to refer to my race, then they should say 'black person'. Not African-American (I was born here, so were all my family, and I'm...

What do you want to do/think when someone uses a racial name
I'm assuming that by "name" you mean "slur". If I'm acquainted with the person or persons doing the name-calling, regardless of what group they're focused on, I will walk up to them, inform them that they're being offensive and ask them to stop. If they're complete strangers I'd probably not say anything, but only because people will try to...

I recently described an acquaintance as the 'negress': is this description considered racially demeaning?
It's certainly not polite, on two levels- technically it's sexist and racist. If you're being forced to talk about her race, "black woman" is a far more appropriate way to put it. I'm black and female and I'm sure I wouldn't like to hear people referring to *me* as a 'negress'. The gender thing is mostly awkward (I don't like the word...

When describing or referring to a transgender person, is it ever socially acceptable or politically correct to refer to them as "trannys", or do you consider this to be a derogatory description?
If I absolutely HAD to make reference to their transgendered state, I would say "my friend who is transgendered" and from then on I'd use their chosen name and pronouns. Why belabor the point?
But like I said, that's only if bringing up their trans-ness was absolutely necessary and/or relevant. Usually when I talk about my transgendered friends I just use their names...

What do you think of the colloquial use of the word "gay"? In terms of meaning something bad.
It's offensive and obnoxious. I asked someone at work to stop using that word in that way just two days ago. She was nice about it, so all good. Using "gay" to mean "stupid" (or whatever) is just as bad as using any other group affiliation. I knew a guy who constantly used the word "Jew" as a verb meaning "cheat". If Adam and Eve existed, they probably looked closer to Arab than anything else that exists today. Makes a tad more sense that you could eventually get both white and black people from that.

Which is better: Sailor Moon anime or Sailor Moon Live Action?
Can't really say either is *better*. Live action holds closer to the manga, but then it veers off in its own direction. It's pretty changed from the anime, but not in a way that makes it suck, like the English dub. Dark Mercury is TOO cool, and the actor playing Kunzite is mad sexy. Hang out all you like. But you have to remember the saying "15 will get you 20". If you guys get physical he can go to jail. Until you're done being underage there's nothing you can do about that. I don't think we can even call the "I buried Paul" a *real* secret message- John Lennon is actually saying "cranberry sauce". Strange but true.

I'm no good at providing financial advice, but the longer you wait to leave, the more your kids are exposed to your husband's behavior. You didn't say how old they are, but they need to learn sooner than later that *any* kind of abuse is wrong and no one deserves to be treated that way.

Have you ever been listening to headphones in an area where regular speakers would be inappropriate, and just randomly burst out singing?
Compulsively. Usually while listening to JPop, which means English-speakers look at me like I'm completely insane, and Japanese-speakers look at me like I'm a three-headed cat that's just gone by on a unicycle juggling dictionaries.
And I have absolutely no compunctions about singing full-voice walking down the street. Just today I had about five random compliments. ^_^...

No, but it's a bit of a creepy thought, isn't it? Even if there were, I'd prefer to get my new-ane-improved vocals the natural way. But that's just me.

"Worth" is a preposition meaning "good or important enough to justify (what is specified)". You stick it in front of the word you are modifying. In the first case, you are modifying "reading". What you're saying is, "This book is [good or important enough to justify] reading."

All Romance (i.e. from Latin) languages do, and even some languages that aren't. German has THREE genders for nouns: masculine, feminine and neuter. What cracks me up is that the German word for "young woman" (das Madchen) is a NEUTER noun. Yet another reason I'm taking Japanese. It's simpler. ^_^

Answer to:
Most scholars agree that the Hebrew word in Isaiah, "almah," that is translated in the King James Version of the Bible as "virgin", actually simply means "young woman". (The Hebrew word for virgin is "bethulah".) Why is this so controversial?
Because there is a Biblical prophecy that includes: "..and the *almah* will give birth..." that Christianity uses as proof that Jesus' birth (to a virgin) was prophesied in the Old Testament. There is evidence that the prophecy actually refers to a king born not too much afterwards.

We see how young girls today are pressured by society to act and look the part of 'sexualized adult women '. Do you think boys face the same problem: to act and look like 'real men'? Why can't kids 'just be kids' and enjoy the innocence of childhood?

Totally theoretical question, if a woman is pregnant and wants an abortion but the father doesn't believe in it should the mother be forced to keep the pregnancy and give for adoption. I mean on one hand it is his child too and on the other it's her body
Just out of theoretical curiosity, why does the woman want the abortion? If either she or the baby has some kind of health issue, the man needs to shut up. If it was just an "oops, we're pregnant, better get an abortion" then at the very least I'd say there needs to be a LOOOOONG conversation. At LEAST. Abortion shouldn't be one's form of birth control, I...

Hi. If a woman is pregnant and the father requests she abort (because he doesnt want to be a father) and the woman refuses, can he still be made to pay child support if she choses to carry? Are there any current laws being considered for father's rights?
The only time I can think of that it's even SLIGHTLY appropriate for a man to request that a woman abort is if he knows he has some horrible genetic disease.
It's called a CONDOM. A man is not *forced* to impregnate a woman, and once that happens it's her call. If a guy is that worried about having to pay for spreading his seed, then he needs to watch how/where he spreads it.

The entire series is also on Veoh.com. (I'm in the middle of watching it myself.) Veoh doesn't make a point of deleting episodes of shows just because they're episodes of shows {coff, coff, YouTube, hack, coff}

Do you like the anime Elfen Lied?
I love it. Then again, I'm a pretty odd person. What hooked me was the opening credits- the images plus "Lilium". Beautiful. After that it wasn't quite as bad as it could have been to see two dozen people get dismembered by invisible hands.
It's a pretty sick and bizarre show, but it still has depth to it. It's heartbreaking. Cases in point- what happened...

He'd rather enjoy himself with porn than with you?
Um.
You're not going to be able to *make* him have sex with you if he doesn't want to, but in my personal opinion your bf is being petty and cruel. I won't advise you to "DTMFA" (as Dan Savage would say) but at the very least you guys are due for a long talk....

Do you treat sex casually, i.e. something to just have a good time, or do you take it seriously? Oh, assuming that you're single at the time and still looking.
It may or may not connect back to the fact that my first such experience was a bad one and one that I regretted for years afterward, but I don't treat sex as sacred. I'm laid-back about it to the extent that if my boyfriend wanted to (and was willing to give me the same freedom) he could go do whatever with whoever was interested, as long as I know who and when he's coming home,...

I have a friend who until about 2 years ago didn't know who David Bowie was. That was pretty painful to me.
Unfortunately a LOT of people haven't heard of my fave band, and many of those who have either don't know they were really a band or think they no longer exist. So when I start waxing poetic about them everyone thinks I'm nuts.

Do you regret losing your virginity to the person you lost it to?
I do. I was only 14 and the bastard pretty much browbeat me until I *thought* I was ready for it. He later turned out to be a nutcase and a stalker. I hope he rots in hell. Peer pressure didn't help either- a few of my friends at school had started a "Non-virgins club". Yeah. Don't ask. I couldn't tell you.

If you've gone missing and you're over, say, 14, these are what seem to be the 'rules' for getting lots of media coverage.

Why do people automatically think that a transgendered person is same sex attracted? From what I've seen it seems the majority (especially m to f) are attracted to the opposite birth gender only which then does make them lesbian afterward.
People tend to assume that the reason people want to change their gender is so that it will be "normal" to like same-gender people. Like, a woman will want to become a man so that the fact that she likes women will become "normal". For a lot of ignorant people, "transgendered" automatically means "gay".

In general, why do you think bisexuals are seen as "on the fence" by both hetero- and homosexuals?
'Cause they're jealous that we have more of a dating pool to pick from. ^_^
In truth, though, bisexual people don't choose their sexuality any more than straight or gay people do. The thing that makes all bi people look bad is twofold: The gay men who claim to be bisexual because it's not as "bad" as admitting to being gay, and the straight women who rub up...

I dont know my orientation yet, im straight, but i dont know, today with all the same sex marriges, when will i know for sure? i dont know why , i even know im not attracted to females, but i might not no it yet, how can i tell?
You can tell when you're ready to be dating. You are the only one who knows who you are and are not attracted to. As of now I'm pretty sure you have better things to worry about. Don't stress yourself. When it's truly important that you know, you'll know. I thought I was straight until I was eighteen. I'm not, but it wasn't a major issue for me and now...
Answer to:
Is sexual orientation based on one's gender or sex? (For example, if someone was biologically male, but felt as if they were female, and were attracted to girls, would they be straight or gay?)
On gender. A woman who is still male-bodied is still a woman. Therefore if she is attracted to women, she is gay.
Me personally, I think it's wrong to go by how someone's physicality is, rather than how they present themselves. If someone presents to me as a woman, frankly I don't care if she has a penis. She is a woman. Same thing if it's a man who still has a...

If your significant other could look like any cartoon/fictional character, who would you choose?
I'm evil- I'd turn my boy into a girl. Ten'ou Haruka from Sailor Moon, AKA Sailor Uranus.
Haruka-sama is the blond, and SHE IS FEMALE. I promise. (So is Michiru, the other one. I swear you'd never believe the arguments we get over this.)
Answer to:
What cartoon character would you choose to be you baby's momma or baby daddy?
Gambit from X-Men. They should NOT be allowed to make cartoon characters that good-looking.

Why are there so many people who can't spell? Did everyone drop out of school in the past 20 years? Is it laziness?
I am seriously considering making up extra home assignments when I have kids, because I don't trust the school systems to teach them to write and spell properly. People I graduated with write like third-graders. I don't get it. It hurts my brain.
Answer to:
What makes a parent favor one child over another?
I'm told my mother favors my siblings because I most resemble my father and I have the highest IQ out of the three of us.
Sometimes I think I only want to have kids to prove I'd do a better job. My mother is insane.

Is it at all possible, in any circumstance, to overdose on marijuana?
I don't think so. The only time I could have come close to ODing, I was too stoned to even raise the joint to my face again. So I'm pretty sure that before you even get close to injuring yourself, you'll be too high to smoke anymore.
If someone else is HELPING you smoke (which would be outright silly) it'd probably be a different story.

Is it true that the way a person feels about themselves is reflected in the way that person generally treats their close friends and family members?
I feel pretty vile about myself most of the time. But the worst I do to other people is ask them "not to start with me today", and that only if they HAVE attempted to start something. I only say that rarely. Usually, instead of saying anything, I just withdraw.

To hell with all i thought my dad was. i walked in on him looking at porn. he's married. he doesn't know i saw it. my mom doesn't know. should i tell her? should i do anything? or should i just try to forget?
If the porn didn't involve children, animals, anyone he's related to, or your father himself, it's really his business if he wants to watch it. Porn isn't cheating. My boyfriend looks at porn pretty regularly. So do I. Our schedules are so different that we don't make love as often as we'd like, and we gotta get our jollies *somehow*.

Think about it. Would you be able to tell if your parents were not your biological parents?
Who knows? My mom apparently dislikes me both for my high IQ and the fact that I resemble my father. On occasion I still indulge in the "My REAL mommy and daddy are a princess and a prince and they're coming back to GET me!!" fantasy, and I'm well into adulthood.
If I found out they weren't my real parents, I think I'd actually feel *better*.
Answer to:

In response to hearing I want to get married:

She split from my dad 3 years ago and now she's soured on the whole marriage thing and doesn't want anyone else to have any.

Get a lawyer. Bipolar has *nothing* to do with it. I myself have bipolar disorder, and I would never tell anyone to falsely accuse people of abuse. Hell, in my opinion, teaching a child to lie like that is in itself abusive. I think your munchkin needs to have his time with his father SEVERELY limited. And supervised. But that's just me.

Small children are often more intelligent than we give them credit for. Honesty is always best, pared down in a way a child can understand. I'm sure there's a way to explain to a child about how there are important rules to follow, even for grownups (laws), and that breaking the rules can get you punished, just like it does at home.

~Death Note, for its GREAT premise and twisty plot.
~Shoujo Kakumei Utena, for the sheer sexiness of the protagonist and surreality of the surroundings. Not to mention a SEVERELY f*cked-up plot.
~Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon, for its sense of fun, girl power, and ability to make you emotional. (Assuming, of course, that you're watching it in JAPANESE. In English it's not worth it.)

Can anyone tell me of a REALLY good anime series that is worth buying? I love anime but I want to make sure that I'm getting my money's worth.(all kinds of anime)

If someone consistently mispronounced your name despite being told the correct pronunciation, would you continue to be annoyed or would you just ignore it?

I only get pissed off when people either screw up my nickname (so far only people who natively speak Spanish or Japanese are allowed to mess it up) or persist in using my first name when they can't say it...
