You're having dinner with people you respect and admire. They all criticise a close friend of yours (not knowing he/she is a friend). The criticism is unjustified. What would you do?
I would ask them where they get their information. If I knew the information to be unjustified, I would have to kindly let them know this is a friend of mine and that, in my experience, the information is completley unjust.

My marriage is so so, my wife is gambler puts strain on us she won't give, do I stay and endure or leave?
Has she exhibited any willingness to seek help for her problem to save your marriage? She has to want to get better, no one can force that on her. If she doesn't I am afraid your options are limited. If you can deal with the problem, and want to, stay. If it makes you unhappy and negatively affects your life, leave. My best wishes for a conclusion which brings you happiness.

Is there any such thing as original thought anymore or we're all just regurgitating the same old ideas into a melting pot of mediocrity?
Great question O-uknow. I think there are a lot of original ideas and creativity today but I spend a lot of my time seeking it out. It doesn't seem to be encouraged in our educational, as PrimeTap has pointed out. The arts, which in my view, contribute to the formation of creativity and original thought, are the first programs to be cut when funding begins to dwindle. I have always...

This is a ? for those who live in the Southern Hemisphere: What is it like to have Christmas fall in y'alls summer, when most imagery associated w/ Christmas is winter-related? Just curious
To put it bluntly, it sucks. I haven't had a Christmas colder than 60 degrees since I have been in South Georgia and I really miss colder weather around this time of year. With each year it is harder and harder to get in the Christmas spirit when there is no weather to go with it.

What kind of person do you want to be with? Is he it? What do you want for your child? If you don't know the answer to these questions, you might want to do some real thinking. If you feel down the center of the back of your wrist you will probably be able to feel the tendons. Rub the back of your wrist and try to separate those tendons as much as possible by gently rubbing them. That should relax your hand and fingers. This is also good to do on a regular basis to avoide carpal tunnel.

You take the good with the bad. If you don't want a work-a-holic, you don't date a work-a-holic. You're not going to change them, you're just going to make yourself miserable. Best to you.

Answer to:
Is it true that the calories you consume eating big feasts during the holiday season does not count? <grin>
That's why I heard on the radio on the way home that most Americans gain an average of two and a half pounds over the Thanksgiving weekend. For the average man that would be 9000 additional calories over the normal 2500 a day required for a man of average size. That means over four days time an average man would consume 19000 calories. That's ALOT of food.
But NO calories...

I asked a question earlier today about Thanksgiving food items. Now I would like to know who likes/dislikes Sweet Potatoes and Yams? The answers on my previous question make me wonder how they got to be a staple on Thanksgiving.
Weren't sweet potatoes and yams indigenous to the US and offered by the Native Americans at the feasts? or is that an old wives tale. It seems that they were part of the Columbian Exchange as indigenous plants though.

For anyone who has been in a long relationship either now or in the past. EVERYONE has trouble but what was the major issue or problem in yours? Was it financial, jealousy, lack of communication or other? I don't want to screw this one up, advice?
A relationship is no big thing, it all the LITTLE ones. Pay attention to the details. One small conversation about something that hit you wrong is all it takes to understand where the other one is coming from. Put yourself in their shoes. Consideration is the other biggy. A relationship is more than just one person.

It seems that most have ended up serving an eight year term, but I don't know that I would want to go anymore than four years without being able to re-evaluate. It could, indeed, have an impact on the effectiveness. Just get up and running and get voted out before it comes to fruition.

Because we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. If we do say something then we are "slutty" or "being forward" or "pushy". If we don't say something then we are "weaker" or "admitting our inequality" or "gutless", "afraid of rejection" Help!

Is a blue flame hot
Blue flames aren’t always hotter than yellow flames, because the color of light emitted by the flame can depend on exactly which atoms and molecules are in the flame. Each atom or molecule has certain special frequencies (colors) at which it absorbs and emits light, just like a musical instrument has special frequencies at which it absorbs and emits sound. Sometimes that’s more...

I like nice things (big house, antiques, jewelry.) My fiance won't become rich. He's young 21, poor student, becoming a paramedic, but he's so generous. I'll never be rich either; I'm a musician 36. My family tells me to leave him to look for a stable man
It sound to me as though you may be setting yourself up for unhappiness. You know what you like but you stay in a relationship in which you know that will never be possible. Money is not everything, but neither is love. You owe it to yourself to have in your life the things that you want. You can have love, a big house, antiques, jewelty, just not in this relationship. Make choices.

At least better than no cleaning at all. I would think it would work well on a blanket. You can buy it in the laundry section of most retailers.

Well, to begin with, I would never put Chrstina Aguilera in the same breath with Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson. That is an injustice to Aguilera because she actually HAS talent. I think it is the attitude, and the fact that they use their head for nothing other than a hairstyle, of anyone like Hilton or Anderson that makes them ugly. The physical beauty is there.

When you go to school for a long time to get your degree, masters etc, then you get married, have kids and only one parent works as the other stays home, would you ever feel like the schooling you went through wasn't paying off?
I'm not quite sure why getting married or having children should stop you from using your degree. It wouldn't me. Marriage and kids should not have to mean the end of self-fulfillment, unless you just want them to. If someone is telling you that it should mean that, I would have to disagree, especially if it was who I was marrying. Then I would have to rethink the getting married.

I didn't get an allowance. We were expected to have our rooms clean every morning. We cleaned the house on the weekends and ironed. My coffee maker died today (RIP). It was a Bunn. I don't have $100.00 to replace it. Any recommendations on a good, reliable coffee maker that won't make me wait for that first cup in the morning?
I have the Hamilton Beach that brews into a reservoir and you put your cup up to the lever to fill your cup. It brews really fast. I love mine. I got the tall one so I can fill my thermal cup but they make a shorter one for regular coffee cups. I don't remember how much it was, but it wasn't that expensive. I feel for you buddy. GOT TO HAVE THAT CAFFEINE. ;o)

It shouldn't make you that self conscious. Most girls would never even notice. But if you are that self conscious about it, you're young, and I am assuming in good physical health, do three sets of ten crunches morning and night, progessively increase them and you feel you can, and you will see the difference in no time. Then you won't have to worry about it.

Ladies: If I cancelled a date with you when I came to pick you up, how would you react? How could I apologize?
It depends on for what reason you cancelled the date and if you were truthful about it. If there was really something important that came up, a simple "I hate that I had to cancel," would do. If you were just a jerk and lied about the reason and I found out, or just decided you didn't want to go at the time, probably no apology would do.

My dad was a quiet man and if he opened his mouth to say something you would probably want to listen because it was either going to be hilarious or prophetic. Today marks the 9th anniversary of my daughters death. (Hit by drunk driver while riding bike) she would have been 13 on august 31st. Is it wierd that I still think about her all the time even though I have a wonderful daughter? (Not around her)
My sister lost her only child 2 years ago when her boyfriend shot and killed her. There has not been an occassion when she has not been in our thoughts and her absence has not been apparent. It's life, but they never really leave us. We honor them with our memories and keeping them in our thoughts during those times. My thoughts are with you, keep us in yours.

Yes. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. Knowledge is the one thing that can never be taken away. If a person can't afford it, it is available to them in one form or other. Sometimes it is much easier for a person who can't afford it than it is for one who can.
