How do you do dates in Chinese?
"二零零九年一月一日星期一" is correct. Also, "星期一,二零零九年一月一日" is correct too.
If you used "二零零九年一月星期一一日" it would mean that you are breaking the xx-year-xx-month-xx-day order, which is wrong!
Note: Just to clear confusion, it's not wrong to use xx-year-xx-month (if you don't know the exact day) nor is it wrong to use xx-month-xx-day.

Have you ever answered a Chinese soldier's request in perfect Mandarin and watched his expression?
No I haven't had the experience og answering a Chinese soldier's request.
But really, the Chinese "soldiers" in Beijing don't request anything or talk. They mostly just stand in front of major attractions for the sake of tourists. Consider them like the Buckingham Palace Guards. They're apprently supposed to be guarding places like the Forbidden City, but in fact they're not much more than...

Can I get an English name written in Chinese characters in a stamp?
You can convert your Western name into Chinese characters.

Or it could be based on translation and pronounciation:

Answer to:
How do you say "of" and/or "the” in Chinese?
If you don't know the answer, please DON'T GUESS. How do you say "of" and "the" in Chinese?
there isn't an exact word for "of", but of can be said by using "de" in chinese. "de" is like adding the apostrophe-S to english words. eg cat's baby (baby of the cat) = "mao de bibi", where "mao" = cat/meow, "de" = 's, "bibi" = baby.
there isn't a word that means "the" or "a" in chinese, so "a cat's baby" and "the cat's baby" are both "mao de bibi" but you can generally tell by the context if...

Chinese speakers? What does vegetable tooth mean?
I just saw a part of a Chinese drama and this girl calls a guy that. I think it's something rude because he called her a pig lady before that so she's being mean back at him.
In Chinese/Taiwanese dramas, they keep profanities relatively G-rated (I think the rudest thing I've heard is a guy saying that a girl has an "airport figure" referring to her chest being flat like an airport runway) because of celebrities with a clean, good role-model image are more desirable than those with an "bad boy Edison Chen" image, which contrasts to the US music & movie industries...

generally, yes. cantonese & mandarin use mostly the same written words (even though their spoken words are pronounced differently and are mutually unintelligible). there are rarely some written phrases you don't use in mandarin but you use in cantonese, but a mandarin speaker can guess the meanings of such prhases anyway.

Never mind guys, I found the myself! :-)
To those wanting to know, this is what I discovered on Wikipedia:

I understand that the Chinese alphabet has many hundreds of characters, how do they handle that with computers and word processing, what does a Chinese keyboard look like?
The Chinese don't use alphabets, they use a pictographical writing system. In other words, it's not like taking this letter and putting with that letter to make a word, instead, they have individual picture-like depictions for each word.
To type Chinese characters, one will need a program like NJStar and need to know sufficient English (or any other Latin alphabet-based language)...

I do agree that people are overreacting to swine flu, but I can understand why.
The only people who would get swine flu were those who often worked in farming swine; rarely did the strains pass from animal to person (let alone person to person) and infect people because for that to happen, a strain would have had to mutate (ie. kind of like...

Do brunettes have more of a mysterious aura about them more than blonds do?
It's funny, because for a while blondes were seen as more attractive than brunettes because of the common-ness of brown hair. Now blondes are seen as ditsy gals who bleach their hair.
To answer your question, I'd say people with dark brown or black hair are more 'mysterious'...to me, anyway.

I am not an American. I hear that America now has a 'black' president. The fact is: America has a new president...It doesn't matter if he is black, blond or sunburns easily. Is not referring to him as a 'black' president, prejudicial?
I think referring to him as the "black" president (even though technically he's half-black half-white) might even out any lingering racial tensions between black and white Americans. Black peoples have been stereotypically seen as street gangsters, drug-dealers and low-class people in general. So, having a black president might ease the racial stereotypes.

When a book is adapted for a film, do you think its better if the film takes the same name or has a different name?? Or even like Richard Matheson's novel "I am Legend", which has movies called "The Last Man on Earth", "The Omega Man" and "I am Legend"
I find that the film adaptation of Breakfast at Tiffany's was nothing like the book and should've had a different name. The movie was indeed good but contrasted with the book in many cases and the movie was a disappontment compared to the book; it should've just been a separate story altogether.

My parents were never really like that. I mean, they enjoy each other's company, but there were never, you know, lover-like. They talk to each other, but hardly kiss or anything like that.

Since the Bible teaches that the nation that forgets God will be turned into hell, and since the Bible is out of schools and out of the minds of most Americans, does that mean that the rapture is close, and America will be hell on earth in tribulation?
Well, the Americans that are Christians are Christians. I doubt they'll forget that they're Christian, because if they really did follow Christian faith then they wouldn't simply just forget it afterwards.
In a way, its a good thing that Christianity isnt taught in schools anymore, because there are people who aren't Christians and it'd be like forcing Christianity...

Hmm...either your parents have taught you from a child to hate athiests, or you have been provoked/bullied/harrassed by athiests...

Why would an Atheist spend so much time and energy talking about "God", when they don't believe that "God" exists in the first place?
Being an athiest means you can't place yourself into one specific religion. Atheists as a whole don't hate/say bad things about god or Christianity or any other religion for that matter.
However, some people do disrespectfully criticize Christianity, and most of those people are atheists.

Haha =P
I have no idea of what Costco is, but there's a high-class store called MYER in Melbourne CBD and they let you have free samples of very expensive perfumes, like Britney Spears' Curious & Fantasies. I knew someone who used to go there all the time to get the free samples.

Hmmm...I usually would say that music artists from the 80s, 90s or earlier have more talent than modern/current popular ones and I normally wouldn't say this about a modern/current singer...but if I had to choose someone it'd probably be Nana Mizuki. She has such an amazing voice! It's so powerful, especially for such a small & petite person like her. She's pretty but...

Why is is so hard to get teenagers to have a sense of RESPONSIBILITY? I have a daughter that won't keep a job but she finds time to hang out in the streets? I refuse to let her live in my house any longer than her graduation this year if she don't change,
Being teenage means you are in between childhoos & adulthood. Some teens will develop faster or slower than others, physically & mentally. They may not be prepared for the responsibilities of an adult, and fun is more tempting than responsibility. As someone gets closer to adulthood they tend to want to be treated more like an adult, but if they're not actually mentally prpepared...

What is the key to a country being a world power?
Nukes & money.
Also, allies is another major thing. I say allies, because when Germany, France UK & USA teamed up against the PRC, thePRC couldn't stop them and were forced to give away many bays & areas (e.g. Hong Kong). Whereas if the countries attacked on their own, China probably wouldn't defeated them.
Answer to:
Could China ever become militarily more powerful than the US and become the worlds number one superpower?
USA has a good economy, strong military, international allies and high-tech weapons.
China has environmental problems, poverty (esp in Manchuria, Inner Mongolia, Tibet), uncontrollable population and internal disputes (e.g. Tibet). Also, China's allies, like N.Korea, aren't as strong as, say, France, Germany, UK, etc.
So to answer you question: No, or at least, not in 50 years.
Answer to:
Why, does the world have wars, is it a power trip?

FOR NOW, America'll remain as #1.
To be honest, I reckon Japan has more potential of becoming a superpower than China & India. Like USA, Japan has...
Answer to:
If China became the number one economic power in the world, how would you feel?
China would only become a world power when poverty becomes a nonexistent or minor issue, which probably wouldn't happen too soon.
But if China did become number one, I'd feel sorry for them - it'd only be a matter of time before other countries attack & try to take over again.
(For those who don't know, China was pretty much "bullied" by the US, UK,...

Maybe the answerers only skimmed through the question & wasn't reading it properly.

Does anybody know what Gravity actually is -- HOW it works? Or is it just the name of a phenomenon that we can describe mathematically, but cannot penetrate its inner workings?
Well, all objects have gravity, even people. Though because a person's mass is tiny (as compared to, say, a planet), his/her pull of gravity is also tiny.

Yes. Not uprates though, since the answerer should know if they've written a good answer and if someone wrote a really good answer there will be a massive chain of comments saying "great answer". But downrates, yes. Even if it's just a short comment. I find it kind of rude when people don't say why they downrate.

No I havent heard of that. Are they dying because of global warming?
Like somebody said, all animals and all of nature are interconnected, so if one animal is dying off, it'll affect the others.
Is due to environmental changes? If so, at this rate, it'll only be a matter of time before it happens to other animals...and humans...

Do you believe China is changing it's attitude towards it's own peoples human rights and to the western world?
I'd hate to criticise my own dad's country's government...but to tell you the truth, probably not. Maybe it is, but I don't think so. The Chinese government's done some terrible things and covered up for it, banning them to be told on the news & Internet. When people leave mean or rude answers or comments, do you think they are that awful in person or do they act like that here because it is a safe way to get it out of their system with no repercusions?
I usually don't say rude things, but I do have bad days and I do get angry. I admit I have lashed out at some people (sorry to those people!) but I try not to most of the time.
I guess their reasons could be
-They're trying to take out their anger
-They're trying to voice out their opinions to people they don't know
-They might actually be honest
-Having fun at...

Is it just me or do you notice too how some big Hollywood celebrities are walking around with fake tans (and appear to be using those "sunless tanning" products)? Don't you think it looks silly? Why can't they just be themselves?
Tans also damages your health -- in the news quite a while ago, a 26 y/o girl was waiting to die in hospital because she had a melanoma too big to be treated by doctors.
To answer your question, I guess it all comes down to money. Magazines and such pay the celebs to have their photos, etc. and the more extreme they go, and the more they push the limits of being a 'bad girl' (or...

The other day I was at a toy store and my two little girls wanted me to buy them a couple of dolls. They love dolls and acting like good mommies to them. Yet when we were lining up at the cashier, some woman told me that dolls are sexist. Your opinion?
It's not sexist. Kids like to play grown-up and have their own little babies to look after -- I remember I used to play dolls with my friends in child care when I was about 3, and some of my friends were actually boys. It's not like you were forcing them to play with dolls. They chose dolls because they like dolls. If that's what they chose, that's what they should get (as...

More or less 25 km. Why do you think someone wants to be a politican? So they can make a difference? So they can be on stage like a Hollywood star? any other reasons?
It depends:
- Greed for money
- Greed for power
- So that other people can pay them to influence others (this comes under 'greed for money')
Or,
- The person feels that something needs to be improved & make a difference to help people. If this is their actual reason, they must be very generous, since they don't really gain any thing or money by doing this

Have you ever found a question on this application somewhat confusing because the posted question mentions a name without referring to the game/story's title or vice versa?(I.e.: I like that orange-haired person from Bleach/I like Goku from that one show)
Yes, AB should have more categories for animes.

How do you feel when you notice the questions posted have simple grammatical and/or spelling errors? Do you try to answer posted questions even when the grammatical and/or spelling errors make it difficult to understand?

Not that I'm anti-text talk --I myself use it when I'm emailing, etc.-- but I don't think AB's the right place to use it.

Who thinks Light Yagami was right in what he aimed to do with the death note?Crime was down 70% and after Kira died it went back up.Stupid Near.
Lol, yeah, I sort of agree. However, Even though Light Yagami's original goal was good, he started killing those who stood in his way but weren't criminals. And using people, like Misa, when he had no intention of letting them survive in the end.

When you don't like something you've seen on AB that someone posted, are you passive aggressive or do you come right out and tell them about it?
It depends on whether it was offensive or rude or just something that I simple don't agree with. If it's something offensive or rude, I ususally at first ask for the person to change it and if the person refuses then I'll confront. If it's something that's accidentally rude or if it's something I might not like, I ususally just ignore it.

I've experienced that a lot. AB's servers don't seem to be working =(.

In the minds of many people around the world, what are the roots of Anti-American Feelings?
I don't dislike Americans, but I do admit I don't like the American Government. Everything is becoming more Americanised - e.g. Okinawa is filled with U.S. military bases and like someone else mentioned, Australia is becoming dominated-over by America. The American Government also creates unnecessary war, like the war against Iraq - I mean, not ALL Iraqis are terrorists, right?

Why do so many people like Naruto or whatever that Japanese animation crap is?
Before you bag Japanese culture even more...
Instead of watching Western TV shows, I've always been more into anime. I also come from a Japanese background, which might also be why. And I've been exposed to anime since I was young (like, 2 or 3 years old).

Can you be called an otaku if you have 50 some manga that you like to read? Or is that reserved for someone who is a little more of a fanatic...?
Well, I've never been called an otaku before. In Japan, the word isn't actually used that often, it's usually Western anime-lovers who use that word. Besides, because I'm Japanese (well, half-Japanese), most Western people see me as "OK to like anime a lot" and wouldn't say it's unnatural for me to like anime...if you get what I mean.

In Japan, the word isn't actually used that often, it's usually Western anime-lovers who use that word. I used to use Outlook and had that problem...I've now switched to IncrediMail which works completely fine and once you sort something by "date received" it satys like that. IncrediMail has a lot of junk features (in oher words, features you most likely won't need, e.g. email backgrounds and excessive emoticons) and it's mainly targeted at teenagers so it might suit you,...

Name-calling is immature and rude, so you should flag it as an offense. Yes. I don't understand what's going on...And for some reason I need to click on something on AB a few times before it starts loading. I'd click it the first time and for a second it'd say "connection to server at answerbag.com" and then it'dwould stop almost straight away.
Everyone's losing patience. The AB staff should do something about this.

Would you marry someone who was of legal age, but young enough to be your child?
Well, that would be impossible, since I'm not actually legal age myself yet (only one year to go though!). If I were of legal age, and if I truly, deeply loved the guy, then yes, I would marry him.

What is the name that mama gave you that she 'made up' and how did she decide?
Well, my mum wanted me to have a Japanese name for my middle name (in English) since my last name is Chinese from my dad. She decided earlier that my name would be all kanji so that I could write my name the same in both Chinese and Japanese (kanji are loanwords from Chinese language used in Japanese).
At first she wanted to name me Hana, meaning flower, but she thought it was too...

She's a lot like me in personality. Shy, quiet, scard of letting people down..yet determined when the time's right.
My second favourite is probably Naruto, because of his courage and will to be the Ho Kage, and you feel kinda sorry for him - being mistreated and everything when he was a kid.

John Lennon was very famous, but is *fame* what you use to measure of success?
Fame is how well-known your name is among people. Success is how much you've achieved - whether it's your goals or money, etc. So no, I wouldn't use fame to measure success, since they're different things.

Are there any real-life Ninjas in the US?
Depends on what you define as a ninja. If you're talking about assassins who trained in ninjutsu, I doubt it - many if not most have gone to either Taiwan, Okinawa, China, Brazil or Korea and disappeared along with their martial styles (or at least, they disappeared from the general public's and the government's sight). Though there probably some still in hiding in Japan.

Speak? Easy-peasy. The pronounciation of words is quite simple. However, the grammar and writing you would find difficult if you're not Japanese. How do I get the Japanese Hiragana writing system on Answerbag.com? Do I use a program?
Not in questions. But you're allowed to put hiragana into answers. To do so, just install a Japanese input program where you type the romaji in Japanese standard-dialect form and walla! Most Japanese-writing programs also allow you to write Chinese, since many characters in Japanese are from Chinese (kanji).
Is this anything to do with your Japanese pen pal?

I personally do not care about the point system on AB. In other words, getting or losing points is insignificant to me. I just like to ask and answer questions and receive answers. Anyone else feel the same?
Yes. Although it's nice to get points, as of now I don't mind if I get downrated. Though It would be polite if somebody could leave a comment why they downrated me.
However, one day, if I made it to the leaderboard - though it's not going to happen anytime soon - I would probably want to keep my name there so yeah, I would care. But until then, no I don't care about points.

This has been bugging me since I was a kid. In Japanese, where there is an 'ou' sound in hiragana, does the 'u' get ignored in Romaji? See my answer for examples.
Same with when there's an 'uu' sound in hiragana - they drop off the second 'u'. They also drop off one 'a' whenever there's 'aa'.
Examples:
Actual pronounciation Kou = Ko in Romaji
Kyuu = kyu
Kyuushuu = kyushu
Ousaka = osaka
Tokyou = tokyo
Sayounara = sayonara
Saataa andaagii = saataa andaagii
Yuu = yu

Why are so many people unable to give compliments to others? It's not as if they really cost you anything...or do they give someone psychological power over you if you are 'weak' enough to give them a compliment?Anybody understand this question?
Perhaps because they are shy. I myself used to be very shy when I was about 10-13 and i would hardly say anything, and people actually thought I was being rude for not saying anything. I'm can still be a bit shy now, but definitely not as shy as I was before.
Other reasons for not complimenting could be that they feel insecure or they don't want to admit a person's good things...

What do you think of people who are really rude to others on AB..and then on their homepage talk about how fair and kind they are--How they may come across as opinionated but they 'are really-deep down-wonderful compassionate people'?
Either they don't realise their rudeness or they're being completely two-faced.
But, to describe oneself as "really-deep down-wonderful compassionate" would be actually quite boastful and that itself is rudeness. So in a way, he/she wouldn't exactly be two-faced.

Ummm....I was just wondering, does my Username give the wrong idea about how I feel? I mean, all I meant was that recently I was reminded of Blank Savage and have started missing him a lot again! You know, its like re-opening a deep wound...
I'm sorry, I don't know who Black Savage is either, though I might have heard of the name. Lemme guess, a singer? "T4DaGuyHuWzRemindedOfBSavageAndMissesHim" looks long, complicated and looks like some sort of code - no offense or anything intended here, just in case you missunderstood me.

Never interrupt when you are being flattered. --Wise advice?
Yes. I once complimented someone who kept on denying it. And it wasn't very attractive, to be honest.

Is anyone else reaching my frustation level with AB? I realize that there are problems incorporating the improvements..but this has been going on for weeks and I am tired of being signed in/out, ignored, getting wrong messages. Anyone else want to vent?
Yes. It's so slow! And for some reason I suddenly find myself signed out. And then it log back in, but halfway through loading the page, it stops working because the connection between me and AB's server has been cut. And then I refresh and it says "Answerbag is temporarily unavailable." Grrr!!! What's actually wrong with AB? I mean, what's causing all these...

At what age did you have your first crush?
Psychologically, everyone's first crush is their parent of the opposite sex. Don't freak out, this is completely normal - it's a natural part of mental development. This happens at around age 4-5, so you usually don't remember anything about it at all.
For me, my first crush that I remember was a boy in kindergarten, except he had a crush on our kindergarten teacher and...

Do people in China really eat monkey brains while the monkey is still alive?
God no! That's disgusting! I'm Chinese myself (well, half-Chinese) and I've NEVER heard of such meal...I have never heard of brains - whether from live animals or dead - treated as food.
However, I wouldn't be surprised if tribal people in Manchuria, Tibet, Uyghur or Inner Mongolia (one of those desert-like areas) eat monkey brains. Though I am no expert in those places....

Bleach is more for teens (16-ish?) while Naruto is more for pre-teens and young teens (13-ish).
Since Bleach is more suitable for my age group, I'd say Bleach, but Naruto's pretty good too.

Make sure you buy everything you can while you're there since all the shops in HK are EXTREMELY cheap! You can get clothes usually worth US$30-45 for about the equivalent US$5-10! And also, Macau and Kowloon are is pretty close by, which you have to see. I've never actually been to Hong Kong but I have been to China.

What is the psychology behind the rise in violent girl gangs? These young women seem driven to the point of murder (see Reena Virk)..and so angry. I have read that these gangs are to be feared because of their extreme violence. Is this new phenomon?
On AB, I've learnt something: "Trying to make sense of nonsense is futile. To understand why a someone would be racist, one must begin filling one's own mind with racist ideas."
That was an answer - and, not meaning to sound biased, my favourite answer - from a question I asked.
And based on the quote, to understand a violent person, you'll be filling your mind...

I am so sick of Christians trying to convert me! I used to be a born again Christian, and know their arguments. Leaving Christianity was mentally anguishing for me. Should I lead them, step by step, through what lead me not to believe?
Tell them they should just accept it that you're not Christian. Ask them, would they knock on a Muslim person's door and say, "Being Muslim is stupid. Turn into a Christian."? No. So there shouldn't be a reason why they should do the same to you.

I think it means people tend to break rules because the rules are there. Admit it, we, as people, are curious and need to know what it's like and what the consequences are after we break the rules to learn not to do it next time.
