Answer to:
Is 'collateral damage' by drone better or worse than that by human being? How?
"War is atrocity in the name of survival" - Javik the Prothean (Mass Effect 3 video game)
The problem isn't the drone strikes. The problem is that:
A) Our survival is not at stake
B) The Authoritarian propagandists use "surgical" drone strikes to try to hide the atrocity.
The atrocity is a constant.

Why are poor people always blaming other for their situation?
It is truly astounding how deeply in denial people are how the world really works on this thread.
The "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" cognitive metaphor is so deeply rooted in our heads by decades upon decades of propaganda that people can't think straight about this subject for 10 seconds and at a minimum concede, "Well...it's complicated."
Meanwhile, how the world actually works is...

Veterans, those who've served this country, support Romney over Obama nearly two-to-one, and growing. Surprised?
Not surprised at all. Authoritarians naturally gravitate towards other Authoritarians.
If someone has been obliterating wedding parties and bakeries in the Third World, they will naturally gravitate towards someone who says "What you did was for God and Country!" instead of someone who says "Dude? WTF?"

Do you, like typical young Obamaite journalist Chris Hayes, find it uncomfortable to call fallen service people "heroes"?

The notion of Red States/Blue States is a generally invalid media creation.
What is more accurate is that the United States has "Blue"-leaning urban islands surrounded by vast seas of "Red"-leaning rural areas.
The ratio of urban to rural population within the state tends to determine how "blue" or "red" the state is.

And once again the Birthers have to explain how it was that the very-well-funded GOP with its huge opposition research arm and its control of the National Security State (CIA/NSA/FBI/etc.) from 2001 through 2009 missed that President Obama was not born in Hawaii, but the Intrepid Internet Bloggers uncovered The Truth.

Do you like watching people box? Why or why not?
I can recall enjoying amateur boxing events between very lightweight opponents. Because they wear headgear and because they are so light, the match becomes more like a fencing competition. The point isn't so much to actually hurt the opponent, but merely to land blows, which requires quickness, skill, and tactics.
I cannot sanction professional boxing. Any sport where the point of it is to...

Car & Driver magazine used to produce a TV show.
In one episode, they tested the effect of sudden tire blowouts on a Ford Explorer (this as in the wake of the rash of Ford Explorer rollover accidents following tire failures).
They found that provided the driver did not overreact to the blowout, they could bring the Explorer to a controlled stop from almost any speed.

Answer to:
Is it more evident in this election that the US needs a 3rd party?
No, the United States needs fundamental reform of its democratic system to make it more parliamentarian.
A 50% + 1 system will always tend to move back towards a 2-party system because additional parties can result in elections like this:
GOP 35%
Democratic 30%
Socialist 20%
Green 15%
So even though 65% of the people voted ***against*** the GOP, the GOP wins.
Note: this works the other way...

I'm a little taken aback by it, but when I think about all the other semi-arbitrary discounts retailers are allowed to offer ("Ladies' night" at bars, senior citizen discounts, etc.), I can live with this one.

Well, you can choose to focus on the fundamental problem that worldwide there is not enough economically viable work available for all the people (with or without college degrees) who need to sell their labor in order to purchase the necessities of life.
Or you can focus on stuff like when President Obama paid off his student loans.

If it makes you happy as a hobby project, go right ahead.
But keep in mind a few things:
1) It will never be collectible. Too many of them were made and it was not historically significant.
2) If you do as you plan, you will spend many hours of time and many large chunks of money...and you'll be lucky to get even one-third of that cost back if you decide t sell it. Drop $5000 and 500 hours...

Because anyone with an understanding of economics, sociology, history and law that extends beyond simplistic sound bites knows that "Hard Work = Decent Living" is bulls**t.

No, there's a much simpler explanation.
1) The GOP sold out to the Corporatist Kleptocracy (note: the Democratic Party is scarcely any better in this regard).
2) In order to keep people voting against their own best interests, the GOP had to adopt (at least publicly) Right Wingnut bat-sh*t crazy policies.

A lot will depend upon whether the seller misrepresented the vehicle's condition.

Trying to emotionally connect with someone, especially in a romantic relationship, is difficult to do. It involves making oneself vulnerable.
People (especially young people) are often not comfortable being emotionally vulnerable, so they find ways to hide that vulnerability.
Guys do dumb things around girls they like, too.

But it makes for a fun Gedanken experiment. What if those CEOs actually had to live in some defined radius of their factories (e.g. 5 miles). Wouldn't it be interesting to see how society would change if the 1% had to live and work in the close...

Jackson says "Targeting, arresting, convicting blacks and ultimately killing us is big business."
I find nothing controversial about Jessie Jackson's claims in this regard.
Think of all the money made by construction companies, institutional food suppliers, police officers, district attorneys, home security system companies, real estate agents, etc. all based upon the fear of African-Americans.
Think of all the politicians who have exploited racial fears for political gain.

Jesse Jackson says "Blacks are under attack" in his latest photo op in the Trayvon Martin case.
Many things can simultaneously be true:
It can be true that "black are under attack" in the United States.
White people do not get pulled over for "driving while white"
White people do not get their resumes round-filed for "white-sounding names"
White people do not suffer disproportionately long prison-sentences for their powder cocaine/oxycontin drug crimes compared to their crack-cocaine...

Subsidies are what rich folks get for doing nothing. Unemployment/welfare is what poor folks get. What's the difference?
Rich folks can afford to buy politicians and propaganda networks, so they can both dampen public outrage about their subsidies and ensure that those subsidies continue despite popular opposition.
Poor people don't have those options.

Why would a cat leave a perfectly good home to go and try to live in someone elses house?
Cats have their own complex set of territorial and social networks that they negotiate with the other cats and creatures in their environment.
Sometimes the boundaries of these networks do not match what human beings have set up for cats.
When I was growing up, we had many many cats. Sometimes they got along, sometimes they didn't. Two cats who could barely stand each other set up a mutual...

How likely is it that a fine untroublesome 17-yr-old "on the right path" would find himself on a 10-day school suspension?
Given the past few decades of a "use brute force, and when that doesn't work, apply more brute force" approach to discipline/criminal punishment in America, it would not surprise me at all to see a 17-year-old get a 10-day school suspension for something minor.

Your question is based on a false premise.

No, I think Shakespeare is still quite relevant.
Your point that Americans should be exposed to other world authors is well-taken, but this shouldn't be an either-or proposition.
Perhaps Shakespearean writings should be matched with similar writings from other cultures so students can see both the universality of narratives and the cultural differences.

Why do men equate big cars and loud motorcycles with being "macho"?
Because women are attracted to 1) High-status men and/or 2) Men outside of their "tribe" (which, in modern terms, translates to "bad boys").
Big cars tend to be owned by men of high social-status.
Loud obnoxious motorcycles have historically been ridden by "bad boys" (mostly PTSD-suffering war veterans).
Other men notice these patterns and try to take advantage of it.

If a billiard ball is placed at both ends of a pool stick w/no space between the stick and the balls and we tap SOS on one ball by poking it with a finger towards the pool stick, would not the other ball receive the same pokes and SOS faster than light?
This would only be true if you had an infinitely light infinitely rigid pool cue made of Unobtanium.
In the real world, your SOS tapping translates to pressure pulses in the pool cue. The speed of propagation of those pressure pulses is governed by the material properties of the cue. A good first-order approximation is that the pulses would travel at the speed of sound for the pool cue...
