The BNP won two seats in the European elections. I'm feeling slightly worried to even be classed as British.
Why the hell would anyone vote for them?
Hm... fear, confusion, racism or just plain ignorance? There's a whole host of reasons, none of them good.

Is the Earth infinite because we go around it and it never ends.. then why do we think the universe infinite?
Earth is finite. There is only so much of it.
The universe, however... no-one knows for sure. An infinite universe would be akward - if it was infinite, there will be infinite Earth's, infinite copies of you, then infinite copies of you that are ever so slightly different... you get the idea.
Finite isn't much better - if there is only so much of it, it must have a volume/area,...

When you were a pre-teen or teenager, did you ever have or go to pajama parties or sleepovers? If so, what were they like?
We had/have sleepovers. They can be fun (we once rang someone up at 2 AM and asked them whether they liked baking - sounds immature, but oh well). Unfortunately, some of them (my friends) often go searching through the adult channels/websites, which makes me cringe, so I go anti-social and play on my PSP.

Are the senses of the preying mantis advanced? Can it hear or feel human speech, for instance?
The senses would be reasonably advanced for an insect, but if you compared it against a mammal they would seem poor. It's a matter of perspective.
I'm not sure whether praying mantis's hear. It might be sensitive enough to feel sound waves from your mouth if you spoke loudly quite close to it, though.
Answer to:
How do praying mantises move? Do they walk on 4 or on 6 feet? Or do they usually just jump?
They have 6 legs. They move with a sort of odd swaying motion - they're trying to look like a leaf to hide from predators.
Of course, a lot of the time they prefer to sit and wait.

What are some good nature programs - from movie or television documentaries? (specific DVD titles for gift ideas)
Anything with David Attenborough is a good choice. Planet Earth being the best, but Life in Cold Blood, Life in the Undergrowth, Blue Planet, Life of Mammals -even the Private Life of Plants - it's all brilliant.
Prehistoric documentaries can be good to. I like the 'Walking with' trilogy (Dinosaurs, Beasts and Monsters).

Answer to:
Today, when lifting the lid of my trash can, the inside and lid was crawling with maggot worms. In all my life I never saw something so disgusting and we keep the lid closed. Did something die in my trash can?
Not necasserily. Maggots are just fly larva, hatched from fly egg which can be layed in almost anything the fly sees as food, not just corpes.
Actually, if somethng died in the can, flys wouldn't have got to it, what with it being sealed off. So the one word answer to your question is: no.

Have you ever been hated by an insect? A wasp has been staring at me for at least ten minutes...It doesn't look happy.
Wasps are the highest form of life. They are ruthless, kill more people a year than sharks, crocodiles and jellyfish combined, and always understand where they should be going and why. I once read that after someone chopped a wasp in half, the head kept wriggling (although not for very long; it was probably using its last energy burst to pinpoint its position to it's fellows).

China has a poor (to say the least) human rights record. There's no freedom of speech, all the media is censored, only one child is allowed per family, etc.

We all 'have a novel in us'. What is yours about?
Well, I'm actually writing a 'novel' at the minute - it's about all this school children trapped in school by a horde of fantasy monsters. Eugh, it sounds rubbish when you put it like that, but I have some hopes for it.
If you're talking about metaphorical novels mine would be about the main characters inability to accept normality.

Do you ever look at answers here and ask yourself why some people are allowed to drive cars, to vote and to breed?
Some questions and answers here were probably written by an amoeba masquerading as a human being. Thankfully, most display enough intelligence to give you hope that the asker/answerer is bright enough to drive, vote and breed.

Probably. It was a glitch in the site (apparently) but still, to erase loads of people's avartars is amazing, and not in a good way.

How did you choose your Answerbag name (assuming its not actually your name, that is!)?
*shrugs*
I always seem to take responsibility and leadership of whatever group I happen to be part of, even when I don't really want it - people just seem to look to me (and I don't say that as a boast), so in that way I'm kind of like a Time Lord.
On the other hand I'm not a Lord, I can't travel in time, and I'm not an alien (to the best of my knowledge)....

Non-Americans: How would you describe the typical American? Americans: How would you describe yourselfs?
Non-american speaking: The nation as a whole is hard to define and not every single citizen will fit into one catergory.
Without ever having been to America, I know that it is very racially and religiously diverse, but still has issues with racism and close mindedness - although every country is like that I suppose.
I also know that it thinks sex, and especially homosexuality is something...

I have a necklace made from a snake's vertebra. The website states: "These vertebrates are legitimately obtained as by-products. So no snake was killed just to make these necklaces." I find this satisfactory, but how do YOU feel about it?
Key word here: Just.
'No snakes were killed JUST to make these necklaces'.
This probably means they were killed to be turned into handbags and fashion accesories, something I find horrific.

What is the most rare characteristic of certain lizards.
I now know what answer you want so here it is:
"They can fly".
Actually, it isn't powered flight, more of a glide.
And my original suggestion was going to be that some lizards have a third 'eye'. That's right, it's a tiny little light sensing organ on their foreheads that's completely covered in scales. Making it pretty useless.

Well, some herbivorous dinosaurs probably lived in groups for protection - most likely duck-billed ones, that are only any good at running away.

It occurs almost all the time in captivity because the male hasn't got room to escape. It also happens a lot in the wild - I think it somehow ensures that all the baby mantids will only have his genes.
On another note, the Red back spider and possibly the Black Widow female spiders also eat the males - in fact, the male commits suicide, to ensure that the female won't mate with...

Why is emotional pain so much more painful than actual physical pain?
Because most human beings are more intelligent and emotional than they are physical. The brain is humanities greatest strength, not our physical ability. So, if we're more mental than physical, it seems natural that emotional pain hurts more than physical pain.

Did they really have only two of each animal on the Ark? Two flies, two moskitoes, two mayflies, two fleas? And how many viruses and bacterias?
Great question. If the story actually did happen (highly unlikely) then it would be impossible to have 2 of every single celled organism - nobody knows exactly how many there are. Even with complex animals, there are 45,000 different species of crab alone. 2 of each is going to sink that ark.

Why are loads of people scared of spiders?
I think it's a combination of the speed (alarming - ahouse spider managed an incredible 3 metres per second), number of legs, body hair and genetics - it's scientifically proven fear of spiders is passed down in genes and is normally reinforced when a child sees a parent freak out over a spider.

A pet store has made the unprecedented decision to stop selling cats and dogs before what is traditionally the busiest time of the year to prevent impulse buying of pets and to encourage people to adopt and "re-home" animals. What are your thoughts?
Great idea! If they had any staff members on answerbag, I'd rate them up immediately.

I'm still in a state of shock. I thought Ridian had it in the bag (not that I actually care who won). I liked Same Difference, but I imagine their CD wouldn't be that good - they're a bit like Ray Quinn - you watch them for there performance and don't concentrate so much on their singing ability.

Does anyone have a Fantasy book they would like to reccomend for me to read? : D
I'd recomend anything by Darren Shan (even though they are part fantasy, part horror, part thriller) they are awesome books. Eragon and Eldest are both pretty good, His Dark Materials trilogy is incredible. I must say that fantasy is my favourite genre, although there are many books from other genres which I think are amazing, particularly the Noughts and Crosses trilogy.

From what we currently know, which dinosaur was the most intelligent?
I'm going to have to go with velociraptor. There intelligence increased as they learned to hunt co-operatively and became smart enough to out-fox prey dinosaurs.
P.S They weren't however, as smart as they are depicted in Jurassic Park...it would be almost impossible for any modern day reptile, with 65 million years more evolution under it's belt, to work out how to open a door.

Answer to:
Which figure from folklore, legend or fantasy would you most want to be discovered by scientists/explorers to be true?
Thats a tough one. I'm going to have to go with a dragon, of any variety except the Komodo ones. If that's impossible, I'd say the/a Kraken (that's also one of the most likely, bearing in mind we know more about the surface of the moon than we do about the really deep parts of the Earth's oceans).

I just saw an interesting program on Discovery HD where paleontologist Jack Horner hypothesizes that T-Rex was a slow moving scavenger since it has useless arms and because it's thigh bone is longer than it's shin bone. What so you think of this?
Yes, T-Rex doesn't have the makings of a great predator, but bear in mind the prey of the time. It would most likely have fed on duck-billed dinosaurs, and these were not a lot faster, if at all, than T-Rex. So my conclusion is that it took live prey (of the duck-billed variety) AND scavenged.

Velociraptors were only the size of chickens, so my house is already proof. I'm afraid I'm going with the common consensus, i.e a huge meteriote or asteroid hit the planet with a very big bang. Your Worst School Experience?
Being told of in my first year at primary school when I didn't know what was wrong. The teacher asked me a question (something about Baa baa black sheep if I remember right). I didn't know the answer, so I remained silent, but the teacher thought I was ignoring her. To my eternal shame she gave me a 'warning' and wrote my name up on the white-board.

If I appeared next to you right now, what would be your reaction?
I would jump out of my skin, and my imagination would say that Lord Loss was standing next to me. After I discover you're actually human (half a second later) I would probably say "Who the hell are you and how did you get here?". Before giving you chance to respond, I would exclaim: "Why are you here?". You would then settle into a long conversation about teleportation....

Answer to:
Does homosexuality exist in the animal kingdom?
Yes, it happens surprisingly often. A group of homosexual male penguins at a zoo in Germany were especially close - so keepers introduced some females to try to get them to breed. This attempt failed miserably, as the males just became even closer. When the females showed intrest, the males pretended some rocks were eggs they were incubating. The females quickly lost interest.

If I didn't know better, I would swear you are trying to start a debate.
I think some people need religion, as without it they couldnt get up in the morning, and the world without them would be a sadder place.
Other people, such as myself, dont need religion, when we manage perfectly well sticking to our own personal beliefs.

I have a Gyarados on Pokemon Diamond. Should I teach it Blizzard or Ice Beam? Blizzard is more powerful (120) but really inaccurate (70% accuracy) ... Ice Beam has a power of 95 and a 100% accuracy. Also, which electric pokemon: Raichu or Ampharos?
I would teach your Gyrados Ice Beam (Using the method Black Knight and Mars Jenka have just taught me). As for which pokemon... correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they are pretty equal stat wise, and I think Riachu looks a lot cooler. All in all, I would go for Riachu.

If Time and Space got into a fight, who would win? Disclaimer: This question requires imagination.
It would be difficult for either to win, as if Space attacked time, Time would reverse itself to just before the attack. If Time tried to attack space, Space would instantly create several galaxies (or possibly another universe) between itself and Time, so Times attack would miss.

$75 is a very good price for a king snake, rat snake, tanks and equipment. But it all depends on how much you want them. Will you be able to care for them and your bearded dragons at the same time? Also, does the equipment have any sort of guarantee? Another U.V tube can be quite expensive. Or is there anything else that you need to spend your money on? Ask your husband why he said no. If all the spiders in the world became extinct overnight, what would be the effects?
We would wake up to find a heck of a lot of flies and other insects buzzing about. However, in the long term, it would have a negative effect on the food chain, with shrews, frogs and other spider eaters getting less food. If there were less shrews and frogs, owls and foxes and other large predators would have less to eat, and more would starve to death. To sum up, the sudden dissapearence of...

Not really, because eating chocolate bars doesn't instantly mean that you put on weight. Smoking, on the other hand, damages your lungs every time you use a ciggarete.
That's probably why they've not put overweight people on the front of chocolate bars.

We have a similar problem, but in our case the invasive species goes by the name of Tesco, not Walmart. Tesco plans to invade the sleepy village of Barwell and stick a store right in the middle of it, at the expense of local shops (Co-op, greengrocers, etc). It will also increase trafic as every gullible person within a 5km radius comes to have a look.

Answer to:
Why is it that the older as we get the faster time seems to fly? Do we lose our perception of the passage of time?
I think it happens like this: To a 1 year old, a month must seem a long time, because they've only experienced 12 of them. Compare this to a 40 year old, who would have seen 480 months (is my maths correct?). To a 40 year old time seems to go quicker because they have experienced so much of it.

We knoe more about the surface of the moon than we do about the abyses in the depths of oceans. Every other habitat has been brutally searched, then damaged / destroyed by man. Of course there are thousands of invertabrates and fungi left to be discovered, in the Amazon forest alone, but the most likely place for giant undiscovered creatures is the bottom of the ocean.

Assuming the lions are immortal (i.e they didnt all die of starvation two years ago) , the safest room would probably be the one with the assasains. They are human, so can be bribed, tricked/conned or in one way or another duped. Of course, they would probably shoot on site, but the poor guy dosent stand a chance in a room full of immortal lions or raging fires.

As far as I know they are only poisonous in the wild due to a diet of poisonous ants. Somehow they then take the poison and transfer it to their skin. Of course, in captivity they never meet the ants, so they aren't poisonous.
