It depends on if the person is immersed in the culture/language or not. People who begin learning after their teens will most likely always have something (accent) of their native (first) language. If they're living in an English speaking country, the local dialect will be the easies to learn since they're who the person encounters on a daily basis. I know a lot of people who learn...

A complete stranger just used the word "y'all" in a sentence while speaking with you. What is going through your mind right now? Have you judged him to be less intelligent than you?
No. I would not judge that person to be less intelligent, especially being from the south. Every region has its own dialect and its own accepted dialect of the English language. Most languages have a subject pronoun that indicates a plural 'you', which we do not have in English.

Prayer is allowed in schools. It can not be mandated by schools, however. It cannot be led by faculty. It has to be ... ambiguous (moment of silence, meeting outside of school). It cannot be foreced. In a multicultural society, it would be inappropriate. Our constitution has given us freedom of religion because our founding fathers came from oppressive nations where they were did not have that...

What's so wrong with some baggers congratulating themselves here? All of us do some self-gratification, if you know what I mean.
Preparing myself to get downrated ... ok. I think it's great. I think it's hilarious. Here's why: I find it subversive and great. Some users seem to take themselves more seriously than you or I do. But, do you know what I really, really think? I think that those who ask those congratulating questions about other users anticipate (not soley do it for that purpose, but knowingly...

If you are in pain, do you inflict pain on others to make yourself feel better?
No! I mean, sometimes I can be bitchy, but I try to catch myself and make sure I don't take my bad day out on others. I've been guilty of it before. It's something I want to correct. I try to show others when they do it as well.

I've seen a question about why some people ask stupid questions. Why can't we just become more tolerant? Is that so hard to do?
I don't know. I've wondered that in AB and life often. Is it so hard to put yourself in someone else's shoes? Is it so hard to accept each other? For some, I suppose it is. I can't understand it myself.

I've encountered so many standards about asking questions: no to attention-whoring, no to popularity contests, etc. Why can't some people see that AB is a SOCIAL website, where different kinds of people converge?
Until there's no rating system, it will always have that aspect to it. If everyone was completely honest with themselves, they would admit that points are part of what AB is about. Sometimes people want to believe that they represent the whole or that their opinions are facts or matter more than others. As long as you know that's not true, then it's whatev. If I wasn't...

What would your actions be(pretending your a parent) like if you happen to walk in on your son or daughter when they were "pleasuring themself"?
Pretend I didn't notice and peace out. Or if I couldn't get away with it, I'd just peace out. Then I'd make fun of them later to let them know it was okay.

No drying soap! First of all, Proactiv. No s***. Do it. Follow all the steps. Second, dermatologist -- something on the inside. I'm on a hormone (not estrogen, something really light -- it's actually a water pill ... I'm not sure how it works). OH yeah! We'd hide our cigarettes in the bathroom (in the shelves there was a little place when you reached under that you could stick them) so we wouldn't get caught with them on us. We had a whole system for doing it. I stopped after 9th grade. Then I'd go out to my friends' cars to smoke.

What would the world be like if our every thought was announced vocally?
My world would be gone because I would've been killed. It's like that episode of Buffy where she could read other people's thoughts. As soon as they knew she could do it, they started having the weirdest, most perverse and evil thoughts. That's what I would do. And I'd be gone. gone. gone.

Do you tolerate bad language from the mouths of your young children?
No! I don't have kids, but I teach them. I know that I swear like a sailor, when I'm by myself or with adults who aren't older. But, we all have to censor ourselves in life out of respect. Me: I respect my students and will not swear in front of them. I expect the same respect. The same with my grandparents and some older family members. It's just innappropriate.

I guess always keeping that conversation open without making accusations is one way. Also, when I used to do those things, I would avoid eye contact when I got home. I'd lie about where I was staying a lot so checking up on that might be a good idea ... calling the friends parents' house wouldn't hurt. Grades declining would be another indication. Yes. As stated by The Man, noble reasons are worth fighting for. I guess the only problem comes in determining what is noble and what has other motives. Everyone is given a label, and generally it's not very fair (or doesn't even begin to represent the complexity of 'you'), but I could think of worse labels. I'm sure you'll make friends, you just have to find the right ones. I say keep talking to be people and keep approaching them. They may be off-put by your smarts, but once they see that you're friendly and...

I read:” In downtown Nashville, which bills itself the Art Colony of the Midwest, there are no familiar franchises such as Starbucks.” Is this true? How do the people of Nashville feel about it, if so?
Nashville isn't in the midwest. It's in the southern (southeast) United States. There are a few Starbucks there, but there are more local coffee shops than I've seen in other areas. I also don't really think Nashville bills itself as an 'art colony'. It seems like whatever you read was bogus info.

You definitely have to do something. This isn't just going to go away. Maybe she feels like because she slept with him before, being with him again doesn't consitute a rape, but it appears to me that it most certainly does. Is there a food you can't eat, not because you can't stand the taste/smell, but for some other reason? I can't eat fancy cheeses because they remind me of a time I ate a bunch and then threw up (a lot), even though that had nothing to do with the cheese.
Fish. I attribute it to childhood memories of throwing up from fish sticks. I put it into my mouth, like the taste, am okay with the smell, but it triggers my gag reflex. I'm trying to break myself of it though because I only eat poultry otherwise and it would add a different type of protein to my diet.

Absolutely. I can relate to songs the way I can to books. For that reason, I'm incredibly picky about what I listen to and only think about 10 bands ever are even worth a crap (but, also another factor is that I think each member of the band should be equally talented, which does not often happen).

Hmm ... that's a really good question, but I can't think of the last scary book that I read. So, I'm going to have to go with movie. Also, because if a book started to freak me out, I'd probably put it down for a bit, but I remain glued to the tube when a scary movie is playing.

Whats the most erotic book you've read?
Lady Chatterly's Lover by D.H. Lawrence. It was banned from England and America for like 30 years and was only originally published in France (I think). It's fairly erotic but not as much as you would think considering the lenght of its ban.

I just found out that Zach Braff (Scrubs) beat up a 14 year old actor who pretended to spray paint his brand new porche on Punk'd (claimed couldn't tell his age because of his hoodie). Were his actions justified? What would you do in that situation?

That's just because she doesn't want to put herself out there and admit that she likes you. She probably fears rejection. You just have to make the first move.

Do you trust the quality of Wal-Mart's products?
Well, when I am successful, I vow never to shop there again. I'd rather not support third world sweatshops. They're business practices are hideous, but my broke ass shops there, and I suppose I don't think too much about the quality of their products.

Yes! How awesome is that that Johnny Marr joined Modest Mouse. It's definitely a more guitar heavy album, though I always liked their style of guitar. But, now they're legendary. I can't wait to see them live.

How do you get yourself to sing KARAOKE in front of a bunch of people? Do you have to be a good singer?
Of course not! Karaoke is fun, but it also depends on the place that you go to. Some places have regulars who take it way too seriously. Other people just like to have fun. Just choose a fun song and don't take yourself too seriously!

Pretty much anything by Charles Dickens. I hate plot centered novels, though I do recall liking A Tale of Two Cities. So, anything by CD except for that.

Depressed. OCD. Agoraphobia. No hope left.
Considering suicide. 56 yr old man. No motivation for anything. God has failed me.Any
suggestions?
If you're not afraid to die, that gives you so much that you can live for. I would give anything to stop obsessing about death and letting it hold me back. So, if you're not afraid to die, you can try to conquer your fears of public places and your OCD. You can spend your time doing charitable work or helping others which will make you feel so much better about yourself. Good luck....

Well, I'm definitely a liberal, but there are certain issues that I take a more conservative position on. Such as, I'm pro-choice to a point, but there are more regulations that I feel should be put on abortion. Hmm ... I'm sure there are others, but that's all I can think of right now.

Do latinos like blacks in florida..specifcally tampa? im startin my senior year at a school thats 41% hispanic and ive never been around them before i love latinos but i hear that they dont like blacks in cali..is it the same for florida?
I understand your concern. There is a known tension between blacks and latinos, but fortunately our generation is so much more open-minded than the previous, and it will only continue to grow. People sometimes fear the unfamiliar, but I'm sure if you're cool with them, they'll be cool with you.

If somebody broke up with you, because you were too clingy in the relationship, and you realized it after he broke up with you, would you go back? And how would you tell him you wanted him back?.......I need help asap!
The thing is that that sense of desperation that's coming across in your question is probably what turned him off to begin with. You have to be aloof and cool and give him some time and space. If it's meant to be it, it will happen.

"Not all who wander are lost." Do you agree or disagree, and why?
I always think it's going to be better in a new place. I love travelling and seeing new things, but inevitably every single time I end up missing my friends and family. I know that you can only find happiness in yourself and not in the newer and better places, but I seem to forget that every six months when I hop in my car or a plane ... but I don't think everyone who wanders is like me.
