You could try letting the dog be familiar with the collar, to smell it etc. Approach the dog from underneath its face (crouch, bend knees)rather than bend over it. Hand out palm up, so it does not feel threatened.

My neighbor had given his dog a canned meat which is already expired from the year it should be consumed. Will that affect the dog's health? Is it bad to give expired food on pets? I'm just worried for his cute little dog. My dog used to eat rotting carcasses he found in the bush. He was okay and lived to a ripe old age. Judge by how the dog is health wise. If you spent 25 years with someone with PTSD and explosive disorders, and you really loved them, and believed they loved you, and you tried to get them help, and they finally committed suicide, how would you deal with that grief and guilt? Get some/a lot of professional bereavement counseling. Really difficult for you I am sure. I am sorry for the loss you seem to have suffered. I suffered from and still do to some extent, I believe, from PTSD. I put my loved ones through hell. I am fortunate to have experienced massive recovery.
