I have acne and i cant stand it. is there any proven methods that will help cure or relieve my acne?
Unfortunately, nothing is proven for everybody. One friend of mine swears by rosewater. She said she applied it once per day (right before bed) and it cleared up her skin.
Another friend of mine had a really bad experience with ProActive, and she tried Arbonne's clear skin system. It worked beautifully for her. It's comparable in price to ProActive (maybe a little cheaper), but...

My family and I get together almost every weekend and we play games but we always seem to play Monopoly. We have decided to invest in a new game. Which games should we invest in?
Apples to Apples! I have never seen a game that a wider variety of people enjoy -- when my church gets together, people of all age ranges play, and it's so much fun. My students (even the too-cool-for-school crowd) talk about enjoying it as well.

My sis decided to have a baby shwr for my son & his wife thru their church (she is an admin pastor). She didn't invite neither my son's wife's mother or myself. Stating she wanted it to be an only church function. What do you say? how do I respond?
You know, baby showers are not supposed to be thrown by family anyway. They should be done by friends only.
I can understand why you're unhappy, but it is her prerogative to invite whom she chooses. You respond by being graceful and knowing that one of your daughter-in-law's friends will probably also want to give her a shower, and that you will undoubtedly be invited to that.

Do you think it is cool for a boyfriend or girfriend to leave the bathroom door open when doing thier business on the camode?
No, I don't. I know that plenty of people are very comfortable with this, but even with a spouse, I would not be. Aside from the fact that I think some things should be private, I'm in favor of maintaining some semblance of romance throughout a relationship.

How can I tactfully approach someone that does something that annoys me? He's an Asian student and the first thing he does when he arrives in the morning is to hawk a lugee in the sink near where I work. I've noticed most Asian men do this.
How many Asian men do you know who do this? I know no Asian men who do this. And I know several Asian men.
Sorry, I got distracted there for a moment. If this is a work environment, you should speak to your supervisor. If for whatever reason that's not possible, the best way to do something like that is to approach him in a friendly way and blame yourself: "Excuse me, would you...

How do you feel about meal prices raised at restaurants by 15-20% so that all workers do not have to depend on tips.
That's exactly what should happen. Tipping is a terrible system. A person should not have to depend on other people's moods for his living, which essentially is what tipping does. There are plenty of countries in which tipping is not the standard, and those places are not notorious for having rude waitstaff. To assume that waiters and waitresses would not do their job well if they...

I gave a pretty nice gift to a co-worker/friend for her wedding and now one month after the vows, she has left him. Should they return the gifts?
They should give back the gifts, but you have no right to expect them to.The etiquette for you doesn't match up to the etiquette for them. As many people have mentioned, once you give a gift, it's gone and they may do with it as they please.
In their case, in the event that a marriage is called off, they should return any gifts that they have not used. However, there is one thing...

Are there any women who feel/felt uncomfortable about breast feeding due to feeling that the breasts have a sexual connotation?
I am not a fan of breastfeeding IN PUBLIC because whatever purpose they are currently being used for, they are still breasts and I believe they are not meant to be displayed. However, there is no denying that they were designed to feed babies, regardless of any other pleasure they may bring. I don't think having a day care encourages teen pregnancy. I'm pretty sure the message is not, "Hey, have all the kids you want, because now it's easy to deal with!" Besides, if they did, they would be a great blessing to the teachers with young children as well.
That being said, I don't think they should have them, because I can't imagine how they would...

Is it okay to "let" young children win games, or is that giving them the impression that they can never lose?
I think kids need to win sometimes, but that's why I'm a big fan of kids' games which don't require strategy, but are still fun for them. One that comes to mind is Candyland. They can enjoy playing, but it's really all luck who wins and loses. Cranium hullabaloo is the same way, and so are a bunch of the games my parents played with me. I definitely think it's...

No offense, and please don't read anything into this, bikini wearers, but I think bikinis show way too much. I definitely would not wear one, so if bathing costume is my other option, it's what I'd go for. Going out in a bikini would feel to me like leaving the house in my underwear.

How can I avoid inviting some of our wedding guests to the formal reception afterward?
Um, I don't think you can. I have known of people who invited guests only to the reception, but to invite to the wedding but not the party afterward is going to offend people. But I don't see a classy way of inviting people to the...

To teach it? Certainly not. You can't learn Shakespeare without experiencing it the way he meant for it to be done (ideally that would be seeing a good performance, but reading aloud well will work also). However, I like any time Shakespeare is incorporated into modern life -- movies like O, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead are not effective means of...

If you were a teacher, what would your response be to a student who said they had no motivation to succeed because the world is going to end in 2012, before they even graduate high school?
It would depend on whether that student was serious. I do know at least one person who truly believes that the world will end in 2012, and I know I would get into a great deal of trouble for calling my student's spritual beliefs stupid. Keep trying to find things that you both enjoy. That way, at least the emotion of having fun will not feel forced to you. A relationship may grow naturally, but don't try to rush it. Any child COULD have been abused, but what you're describing is pretty normal. It may simply be a matter of teaching your son appropriate behavior for being around people. Me and my fiancé want to have a Steampunk themed wedding. Can you suggest any ideas for decorations? Wall, table, gifts or otherwise.
How fun! I'd go for very industrial things -- since your wedding is nontraditional, you may even be able to find a cool venue with some exposed metal in the hall. Also, mix with super-traditional looks, like typewriter-font invitations with embellished borders. Such a cool idea. There's no way to know. It really could be true; it could also be an excuse to get out of dealing with the consequences of his actions.

Why is digusting crap like caviar, frog legs, and foie gras considered gourmet? If I were rich, the last thing that I'd be eating would be fish eggs.
Because they are delicious and costly to prepare. Why be down on something if you haven't tried it?
Something is usually gourmet because it is either very difficult or very expensive to make. Caviar, for example, is both. The process of getting the caviar is time-consuming, and it takes the roe of many fish to make enough caviar to be sold.

Are the schools getting too involved with your life? Did you know some schools require you to get a pre-approval form for doctor visits, like for a vision or dental visit? We have to ask their permission to take kids to the doctor?
Well, it's unfortunately not uncommon for a parent to cover for their kids' misdeeds by claiming that they were at the doctor. Since a doctor/dentist appointment is made ahead of time, the school requiring a form to be filled out keeps a parent from writing a note saying that their kid was at the doctor when in fact he had just not written his English paper. I can't imagine my...

Please please see a doctor. Toast does not have the proper nutrition needed to sustain a healthy life. Also, you are NOT fat. In fact, you are very, very thin. At 5'6 and 8 stone, you weigh much less than is probably healthy for your height.
It is not uncommon to have an inaccurate view of your body type. Whether you believe me or not, I can assure you that you weigh less than you...

I don't travel by bus, and now I NEVER WILL. In fact, I think I may just stay inside altogether. This world is getting crazy.

Is it child abuse to force religion on a child, without giving them a choice to grow up to think for them selfs?
"Force a religion on a child." Interesting choice of words, and obviously from a non-religious person. But look at it from that of a religious person. To us, that's like me posting a question saying, "Is it wrong to force a child to eat vegetables, rather than letting him decide for himself what he likes?" The answer there is of course not! Is the hair color they use in Salons better than what we buy at a store? Can you buy the same brand hair color as the salons use? Thank you!
At a beauty supply store, like Sally's, you can get a good, professional dye. That is not to say that ALL professionals use a better dye than at the store, but the good ones do. The ones from the store tend to be much more damaging.
Answer to:
Okay my hair went yellowish when i dyed it blond, but im thinking will it be okay to just dye it a light brown will the hair color turn out right?
Don't use a drugstore dye. Go to a professional store (Beauty Brands, Sally, etc.) and get some dye that is gentle on your hair. Then you should be good to go with a darker shade. But if you use a second dye from the grocery store or something like that, there's a good chance the colors won't work or it will damage your hair.

I wouldn't mind, though my fiance does not.
I would like to point out that it's an unfair double standard that girls are supposed to shave and guys are not. Where did that come from? Shaving is completely unnatural. Mind you, I do so obsessively -- I'm just s brainwashed as everybody else. :-) But it's still illogical.

I don't know about where you are, but here in Texas, it is understood that the HOV lane is to be entered and exited only at designated areas. If you need to exit before an exit is provided, you simply don't use it. Here, fighting that ticket wouldn't work. But good luck to you anyway.

How do you feel about toast? Be honest.
I feel that toast, while delicious, is frequently ruined by the liberal application of butter. Butter is death to toast! Death! It renders it inedible to me.
However, peanut butter makes for cozy pals with a nice piece of toast, and also helps keep me full until lunch. Yay, peanut butter toast!

Who else feels that would fit in better here if they were a gay liberal democrat?
I'm definitely none of the above, and I think I fit in just fine. I think it's more a matter of being friendly and approachable in the way you ask/answer questions than it is about having the same opinions as everybody else. My opinions are often different from the majority, but overall, I treat people with respect and am treated accordingly.

Two people walk into a room and argue. One is wearing a professional suit. The other is wearing casual clothes. Would you base your judgement on who to believe more based on their clothing?
It depends on the topic of the argument. If it's a business-related one, then maybe I'd trust the suit person more. If it's something personal, then it has no effect.
However, I am more likely to side with a person expressing him/herself in an articulate manner than one screaming obscenities or other such nonsense.

What do you think about the idea that "When people are the hardest to love, that's when they need to be loved the hardest"?
Oh, I'm sure that it's true. But often those people will not be affected by the love of one person. When people are the hardest to love, it is often the case that only God can really show them the love that they need. It's our job to allow Him to show His love through us, of course, and we should do the best that we can, but we are, after all, only human.

What a great idea! Three is a bit young to go out and do things, but you know your kids better than anybody else. I know that many people have legitimate issues with the way things are being run right now, and I'm not trying to belittle those people's feelings. If that's you, then I'm not talking about you. What I'm talking about is the same attitude that drove everybody to...

Has AB become less thought provoking, and more of a popularity contest in which all the little cliques are vying for supremacy?
I haven't been here long, so perhaps my answer has little weight, but here is what I see: some people take certain specific issues very personally. Others have vendettas out against one another. Other people just enjoy talking to certain people who are on similar wavelengths. Do all of these count as cliques? I don't think so.
If I have persons X, Y, and Z on my friends list,...
Answer to:
Is it ever justified to refer to a person as "it" instead of either "he" or "she"?
No. It is not justified in either grammar or humanity. I think we have well covered why one does not refer to a person as "it," as it is dehumanizing. That is not randomly assigned; in grammar and usage, generally accepted connotations count.
The thing is, grammar and usage is not just about theoretical rules. Part of it is just about what is correct. And there is no style...

If you had hard evidence of someone falsifying their identity online in, say, a forum situation, would you expose them or allow them to continue living their lie?
Will some good come from exposing them? Is this person trying to lie about marital status to get a date? Or age to prey on an underaged chatter? If so, then do it. If it's simply that somebody is online claiming to be a 25 year old woman when he's really a 48 year old man, but is doing no flirting or anything else, then maybe I'd leave it alone. Many people use the Internet...

Answer to:
Where do you draw the line in caring what others think of you?
Usually at the point at which it reflects on other people. If, for example, somebody thinks poorly of me and knows that I am a Christian, I would be concerned that this person be set straight, because people often judge a group of people on a single encounter. I would hate for a misunderstanding or something to be the reason that someone thinks Christians are idiots.

Are little girl's Halloween costumes this year TOO sexy? (http://www.newsweek.com/id/62474?GT1=10450)
YES! A friend of mine introduced me to a great word: Prostitots. Little girls who are dressing like hookers. It's happening on a daily basis, but it hits its peak at Halloween, which seems to have become a time when ALL girls, pre-teens to immature adults, decide that "costume" is just a euphemism for Slutwear. It's profoundly disturbing.

Answer to:
Do you get the feeling that people sometimes go overboard and show a lot of emotion to subconsciously compensate for what they perceive as an absence of real emotion, deep down inside themselves?
Definitely. Especially working with teens, I have seen kids get very worked up over how much they "don't care." I think people often view emotion as a weakness, and so they claim not to have any. Or, as is often the case with teens, they really THINK they don't have any because they think emotion is supposed to look and act a certain way. Our culture is making it...

Why do people get annoyed when high schoolers go trick-or-treating?
I see trick or treating as a childhod thing only. Age twelve was my last year to trick or treat, by mutual decision of my mother and myself. Even as a teen, I didn't think it was appropriate. If we wanted to do Halloween stuff as teens, we got some costumes and threw a party.

How much do i have to pay to replace a stranger's camera which i broke (knocked it off a table)?

Answer to:
Is it abnormal or unhealthy for a 17 year old male to still b a virgin>? pros/cons?
It is neither abnormal nor unhealthy. Sex is not necessary for health, first of all, so it's not unhealthy for a 50-year-old man to still be a virgin. As far as abnormal, I'll guarantee it's a lot more normal than most men would like for you to think. It's not a good idea to have sex just because you are still a virgin. Many, MANY people wait a lot longer than you to...

Should I go to families wedding if they only invited my partner to the reception? We have been together 20 yrs.
No. You were not invited. If this family member knows and understands that the two of you are a couple, but only invited one, it's possible that the space in the reception hall is severely limited and significant others are not invited (unlikely) or that he or she is ignoring your relationship (probable). Either way, you should never attend a function to which you were not invited....

People never seem to appreciate the time and effort that goes into holiday gift wrapping, tearing into the package in nano-seconds, but do you still enjoy shopping for the paper and doing the wrapping?
I love gift wrapping. To me, it's part of the gift, and just like with good cooking, presentation is part of the deal. I don't mind if people tear into it, though. As long as they look first; they don't have to "be careful of the pretty wrapping" or anything. I just like to give them something nice.

Fiberglas itches because you have tiny cuts in your skin. Any rubbing or whatnot makes it itch further. I recommend Neosporin on the itchy parts -- it will numb it slightly and help it heal quickly. I'm sorry for you -- fiberglass is crappy.

I'll second the suggestion to speak to their supervisor. Sometimes, debt collectors can be extremely rude -- I have known people who have been called liars when they claimed not to be the party the collector was looking for (the truth!). I also have a friend who was very successful collector for several years, and she told me that there is no reason to behave in the manner that...

Please note: you can't get rid of split ends without cutting them off. You just can't. As Jewel pointed out, hairs are like fingernails -- you can't heal a broken nail -- you can only trim it and start over. Hair is the same way. There are some great products to reduce the LOOK of split ends, but they are only a temporary fix.

It doesn't really make a difference if you switch it up. Hair does not get "used" to a certain shampoo. The only benefit might be if your shampoo leaves a buildup in your hair -- but washing with a clarifying shampoo once a week can help out with that.
I found a shampoo that I love and I stick with it, because it is far better for my hair than anything else I've tried....

I'm no doctor, but if you hurt it at some point, it could be a bruise that you simply can't see. Not all bruises make it to the surface of the skin, and they can be just as tender.
Another common cause for around/behind eye pain is sinus pressure. Perhaps you could take some OTC sinus meds and see if it goes away.
If not, I'd probably check in with a doctor, depending...

What does the word "sorry" mean to you? What makes it sincere?
My pastor has given a great definition of "sorry" that I like to steal: he says it means, "I wish I hadn't done it, I regret the harm it has caused, and I intend to do my very best to make sure it never happens again." He says that if all of those components aren't there, it isn't sincere and might as well not be said at all.

They decide how important it is for their man to spend Sunday with them. For example, my fiance can watch 10 hours of football on Sunday, no problem. Why do some people think that women over a certain age should cut, perm, tease, and dye her hair? Are long, flowing tresses only for the young?
This "rule" came about because cutting one's hair is more convenient for moms, especially, and because it often makes an older woman look younger. However, as many people have stated before, there is no one hard-and-fast rule for all people.
I think it's ridiculous to say that people "have" to cut their hair because they have a certain profession or are a...

Would you really want your child to be a genius and maybe even go to college at the age of 14 or younger? Isn't enjoying the innocence of childhood more important?
You know, I'm really not sure. I think it depends on the child -- some kids who are that intellectually developed also mature quickly emotionally. If my child has done that, then I think sending him or her to college would not be such a bad thing. Also, a child who is that intellectually advanced is often unhappy in high school, where he or she may be something of an outcast. In that...

Ideally, it should serve as an opportunity to practice social and conversational skills in a low-pressure setting. Yes! I have thought about that myself! Although if that's too hard to do, a "Search My Answers" feature would work as well.

I'm about to have a baby and would like to stay home with her for a few years....does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to make a little extra money from home?
A friend of mine sells Arbonne; it's kind of like Avon, but I like it a lot more. She has had very good experiences with it, and plans to eventually make it her primary income. I actually know several women who supplement their husband's income with Arbonne sales -- perhaps it will work for you. Good luck with staying home with your baby!

Is the bottled water industry justifiable to the environmental costs? Please explain why the use of more non-biodegradable plastic, transportation costs, and the high pricing make this a "green" enterprise.
Are people claiming that it's a green enterprise? I never thought that was up for debate. I like bottled water because I'm a weirdo, but I never kidded myself that consuming it was good for the environment.

If I were extremely interested in you and just expressed my feelings for you, what would you say to me to let me down easy and not break my heart? (Have fun with this one, but remember... be gentle! :P)
Oh my, Jay. That's sweet, and not creepy at all, even though we've had virtually no contact since I joined AB. Honest, I think the secret admirer thing is totally different from the scary stalker thing. So yeah, it's really awesome that you are interested, but I'm afraid I'm moving to Yemen next week. It's a pity -- we were so close to making this thing work.

You walk into your kitchen to find a regular glass cup on the counter. There is orange juice in the cup. The cup also happens to be marked, from top to bottom, 1ml to 50ml. The quantity of the orange juice rests exactly at 25ml. Half empty or half full?
Mysterious. I don't drink orange juice, so this should not be in my kitchen.
I don't automatically think either one. On a purely one-level answer to this question, I would say, "Why is there half a glass of orange juice on the counter?"

What are your viewpoints on the chewing gum Big League Chew since it's shaped like tobacco and it's name has chew in it? Does it glorify chewing tobacco amongst children especially since it has a baseball theme which is synonymous with chewing tobacco?
It was actually introduced as an alternative to the tobacco that so many players chewed. I think it would be nice if more of the kids realized that this gum came about because people were already in the habit of chewing tobacco, and somebody realized how bad it was for them and decided to offer up a safer option.

Why is harry potter so popular with adults?
It's well-written, exciting, and funny. I love British humor, which is probably why I enjoyed it so much. Once you begin reading, I have trouble imagining not getting hooked. One thing I particularly enjoyed about reading the books was Rowling's amazing attention to detail. Tiny things that are mentioned seemingly off the cuff in one book may turn out to be very important, or at...

What are the benefits of home schooling? What are some disadvantages?
There are a great many benefits, most of which have been outlined by Roger Kovaciny. However, there are definite disadvantages as well -- while some students grow up fine and with great social skills, many homeschooled students do not develop good peer relations. All that needs to be done is to make sure that the student receives adequate socialization, but it is definitely something to...

I'm going to one of my friend's churches for youth day. Can I dress in jeans or should I "dress up, dress up"?
The best person to ask that would be your friend. Each church expects different things in how its congregation dresses. While I believe any church should welcome you regardless of what you're wearing, it's respectful to dress as the members do. If you're in doubt and don't want to ask, I'd go for something in the middle -- maybe nice slacks and shirt.

Can blind people see in their sleep?
Not if they were born blind. Just as those born deaf do not hear in their sleep. If they were not born blind, then it would depend on how they lost their sight. If the damage is to their eyes, then they might still be able to have visual dreams. But if the damage is to their brain, sometimes they may not even be able to do that.
Answer to:
Is there any good universities in Texas that have a REALLY good visual arts program?
I don't know if you still need the answer to this one, but the Art Institute of Houston is really good. It's got a great reputation, and I know several people who have attended it and enjoyed it immensely. In addition, if you are pursuing a specialty such as media or digital graphics, they have some incredible networking opportunities built into the program.

Touch typing is a kinesthetic ability, not one having to do with language. It draws from a talent in movement and coordination.

If you had to substitute a high school class or a elementary school class, what would you choose?
I teach high school, so that's where I'd be most comfortable. Besides, in high school, the kids don't freak out when their teacher is gone the way they do in elementary. I can keep teenagers in line with no problem, but I don't want to deal with the endless questions of "Where is our teacher?"

Hey teachers: would you ever encourage your OWN children to become teachers? With NCLB and all that's at risk, would you want your child to just through the hoops (especially for a teacher's salary)?
Certainly. I love my job, and my salary. Would I like to earn more? Sure, but at least where I am, my salary is pretty competitive.
Teaching is an incredible profession. When teachers complain about it, it truly saddens me and I think, if you don't like it, get out. Seriously. People who hate their job shouldn't teach, and the day I think that it's not worth it is the...

They should not, not, NOT be taught in their native language. Is "Which is different." a grammatically correct sentence (note that it's ended with a period and not a question mark)?
No.
But that doesn't mean you can't use it. Grammar rules are there for a reason, don't get me wrong (I am an English teacher). I wouldn't use such a sentence, for example, when writing a paper for a class. However, sentence fragments can be quite effective for creating emphasis in one's writing. Which can be very useful. ;-)

If you really think your hair stylist has talent, would you say "do what you want to my hair."? If you have done this was you happy with the results?
My stylist is awesome, and I come close to that. However, I won't let her cut my hair short (it's past my waist). So I say, "I'm keeping the length, but you decide what I should do with it." It works out very well.

Yeah, I know. But it's true. When I was in junior high and early high school, I had medium-long hair (just past my shoulders). In your opinion, is it "wrong" to not be very talkative? (Not morally wrong, but socially and otherwise.)
It's not wrong to have a quiet disposition; however, there is a difference between being naturally quiet and being unskilled in the art of conversation. If you tend to sit in uncomfortable silences in social situations, then perhaps you need some practice making small talk. A person should...

No disrespect to your pastor, but the Bible does not support this. It DOES condemn suicide, but no, it is not an unforgiveable sin. This belief comes from an interpretation of salvation that says each sin must be confessed before it is forgiven. Since, obviously, one cannot confess one's sin after death, they reason, suicide cannot be forgiven. But you have to look at the Bible as a...

I'm not ashamed of my real age, but I don't share it often (because I prefer to let people think I'm older than I am). Besides, I'd have to know why this stranger was asking my age. That's intrusive, whether or not I'm comfortable sharing the information.

What 'style' of camping do you like = the 'just add water' kind or the gourmet bbq dinner with candle lights on the picnic table? In a tent? Out in the open?
The closest I get to camping is a church retreat I go on, and it only counts as camping because I don't have Internet access and usually don't use my cell (except for emergencies). There are cabins with beds and AC/heat, three meals a day cooked by other people, and many many board games. But there is a bonfire with s'mores, and I can't get online -- so it's camping.

Do any other women have rough, hard-to-shave armpits? Mine are always red and covered in little bumps, and everyone else's are perfectly smooth. If you do, how do you fix it? Dove deoderant and lotion aren't cutting it.
Epilators. Motorized tweezers that hurt like crazy the first couple of times but that make the skin so smooth and hair-free that it's totally worth it to me. I used them exclusively for a couple of years, and then my dog ate mine. I went back to shaving and hated it, so I'm about to buy another epilator. I am in your boat, and I can't stand it.

I always seem to have dark/shadowy underarms - even if I shave with a brand new razor. I shave daily, just water and a disposable razor, and I've tried shaving in all directions. Nothing helps so far. What should I do?
Epilating or waxing can help sometimes. If your hairs are very dark, it's possible that you're seeing them beneath the surface of your skin, which is causing it to appear dark (I have this same problem when I shave). I find that epilators (motorized contraptions which pluck out the hair by the roots) work much better than shaving. Warning: they hurt. No, really. They really hurt....

This question is old, but I ran across it and couldn't leave it alone. Epilators do NOT suck out the hairs. Suction has nothing whatsoever to do with how they remove hair -- it is basically motorized tweezing. So no, using an epilator will not loosen your skin. I have had no negative effects from using an epilator.

Yes, though I prefer to give food. My feeling, though, is that the Bible says that if we give a glass of water in Christ's name, it is as if we were giving it to Him. It doesn't say "A glass of water to somebody who is genuinely thirsty and incapable of getting it themselves." If I have it to spare, I try to help. If they use it wrongly, that's between them and God.

What is the funniest CLEAN joke you have ever heard?
This is what I call a 50/50 joke. Half the people I tell think it's hilarious, the others think it's beyond stupid. It's my favorite joke of all time.
Two muffins are sitting in the oven, baking. One muffin says to the other, "Man, it's hot in here!" The other muffin points and says, "HEY, LOOK! A TALKING MUFFIN!"
Yeah.

It is certainly within the rights of the host to say no. In fact, it was inappropriate for the guest to ask. When an invitation is extended, the guest has two choices: accept or decline. Not try to change the parameters of the invitation. Let me reiterate: there is NO etiquette that states that a host must allow a guest to bring extra people. Warning: this does not mean that your guest...

It's not like there is anything you could do about it. It's normal to be embarrassed, and if you can help it, you should excuse yourself beforehand. But SHOULD you be embarrassed? Nah. Unless your colleagues are all junior high school students, I would imagine they got over it quickly enough.
Answer to:
Is it rude to always ask guest to bring a food or drink item to a party that you are hosting?
Actually, yes. Hosting a party means that you are inviting people over to be your guests, and guests do not have to provide their food. The exception is if you are hosting a potluck, in which case, it is understood that you will all share in the providing of the food. But for just a party? The host should be supplying the food.
The guest, however, will usually bring some sort of gift...

What is your sure-to-please potluck special dish? Recipes welcome.
This is my fiance's favorite meal that I make -- he says he would eat it every day. I'm sorry I don't have an exact recipe; I don't follow one. So, all amounts are approximate, and ingredients can be deleted if there is something you don't like. Warning: this makes a LOT of food. Use a wok if you have one; your skillet will almost certainly be too small.

Does the Bible say that homosexuals, blasphemers and people that have sex before marriage will go to Hell?
The common misconception regarding the Bible and Hell is that people go to Hell for this sin, or that sin, or this other sin over here. All have sinned. Sin means that you go to Hell. So, yeah. Anybody that commits the sins you mentioned, or any others, will go to Hell. But so will gossips, liars, and people who don't go to church. It's not A SIN that sends somebody to Hell;...

I'm having alot of trouble with my faith lately. I'm a Christian but I'm starting to have doubts. I need some reassurance. I don't need anything from athiests right now. I need PROOF, or at least something to convince me that God is real.
It's normal to have doubts -- please don't feel guilty about it. I love the story in the book of Mark (9:18-25) in which the father of an afflicted boy comes to Jesus. He asks Him to heal his son, and Jesus says that it is possible if he believes. His response is, "Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief." Sometimes I feel like this story is in the Bible just to help us...

Should students be required to study a second language?
Absolutely, I do. I think that second language education should start in the earliest primary grades. If it did, then I think the arguments listed that some students would not succeed become moot. Where I am, second language learning is voluntary and does not begin before junior high school. Learning the language would be so much easier if it started when the students were younger!

Jackets: The term "nip and tuck" isn't just reserved for plastic surgery. Tapered jackets can accentuate bustlines and waistlines.
Skirts: Pair a full skirt with a long top and add a ribbon belt to create a waist. Belted skirts with pockets create the same effect.
Tops: Fitted bodices create a super-sexy shape. Shop for V-necks and scoop necks as well....

I think it's sort of a middle ground. It's about keeping up with the quetions and answers from people whose submissions I like reading, but I see that as a friendship of sorts. Do you shampoo your hair twice? Once to get the oils out and one more time to let the shampoo clean your hair?
No -- it's very bad for your hair. Your hair needs the oils, otherwise it dries out and breaks. In fact, whenever possible, it's best to shampoo your hair every other day rather than every day (not an option for me, alas). But I only wash my hair once -- if I feel that a shampoo does not get it clean on one go, I get a different shampoo.

A demi-permanent gloss is a great way to darken your hair with less damage. It will last for several months, but the minimal amount of bleach keeps it from stripping your hair the way a regular dye job would. If you choose not to wash your hair each day, getting it wet will not harm it. In fact, if your hair is very long, it would probably be worthwhile to use a conditioner on it every time you shower. This will give it an extra boost, and also make it easier to comb when you get out. Especially if you blowdry your hair when you get out of the shower. If you were backpacking in Korea and arrived, starving, at a small town where the only restaurant had only a dog meat dish left to serve, would you try some?
Sure. It's not my dog or one belonging to somebody who loved it dearly. It was an animal raised for meat. Some people keep pigs for pets; it doesn't mean I'm going to stop eating pork. The less heat you apply to your hair, the better. That said, you can straighten your hair every day and still have it be healthy, IF it's healthy to begin with. Get a trim and cut off any dead ends you have. Remember that you can't repair damage; just cut it off and start over whenever possible.

Because God is not a vending machine.
He wants a relationship with us. The premise of your questions is that we pray to ask for things and God gives them to us. This is not an accurate idea of what God outlines for us. He wants to have a relationship -- and our prayers should not only be about what we want. Prayer is a time to talk to Him, and tell Him what we would like, yes. But it...

I hate to break it to you, but you are killing your hair. You bleached it, then permed it, and it broke. Hair does NOT heal itself. Any damaged hair is damaged forever. If you perm it again, it will break more. The best thing to do is cut off the damage and start fresh. Putting a dark rinse over is probably won't hurt it as long as you get professional quality dye (translation: not...

Does leaving conditioner in your hair while you sleep really help your hair?
It can. Deep conditioning is basically letting your conditioner work as long as possible on your hair. A conditioner works by filling in weak spots and coating your hair to make it smooth. If you leave it in longer, that gives it more time to do its job. I have never left conditioner in overnight, but I have wrapped my hair up and left it in for 45 minutes. Doing so once a week can really...

It depends on what you used to do it. Lightening your hair is one of the more damaging processes you can do. If you used a storebought box of color, I would be wary of doing anything else with it. How long you wait doesn't make a whole lot of difference because there is no way to repair damage to hair. Hair doesn't heal; it can only stay the same or get worse. If you used a dye...

Americans often talk about liking a"British accent" but most British people would debate whether there is really a British accent. So what do you mean and what do you like about it?
I think that when we grow up somewhere, it's difficult to hear those vocal qualities that make up our own accent. So it's not surprising to me that British people don't really hear a British accent (or rather, that while they hear distinct regional accents, they don't hear one general sound for the whole area). Americans are the same way, I feel. When I hear a British...

How do you pronounce the letter "Z"? Is it "ZEE" or "ZED" for you?
I say "zee" because I'm American, but I think it SHOULD be zed. Because it's cooler. And, to my understanding, zed came first. Ahh well, I also think we should switch to the metric system and have mandatory foreign language classes from elementary school, but nobody listens to me.

When someone replaces "are" with "is" or "were" with "was", what's the first thing that comes to your mind? (Example: If you was a dog, what kind would you be?)
I suppose the mental equivalent of a raised eyebrow. For some people, it's so ingrained into how they were raised, it might not be a fair indication of their intelligence or education. As an English teacher, I don't like it, but I try not to be one of those people who makes snap judgements based on grammar. Though sometimes I can't help it. :-)

What kind of fonts are used for the 'speed limit' sign? I mean the one that can be seen in the US roads. It looks like the font style that is often used for the traffic signs.
Helvetica. It's actually the most commonly used font in the world for signs and public notices. It's easily readable and immensely popular. Microsoft does not use Helvetica; it uses Arial, which is basically a bastardization of Helvetica.

Under what conditions is it more ethical to divorce than to stay married?
I think when one partner is unwilling to try to make the marriage work. I am against divorce as a rule, and I think that most divorces these days are the result of people not determining to work at the marriage and make it successful. But if one spouse refuses to work on it, there is nothing the other can do about that. Also, an abusive relationship is grounds for divorce (obviously). While...

Doppelganger is a double. Usually, it's used to mean somebody who looks just like another person (i.e., the belief that every person has a double in the world), but it can also mean in behavior and actions.
There are more mystical beliefs associated with the Doppelganger, such as the idea that it is a spiritual being who appears to give advice or cause trouble. But that's not...

If we all speak a language but we all have different sounding voices, why should there be such things as regional accents?
A regional accent isn't about the voice of the person speaking; it's the inflection, pacing, and pronunciation. Whether you pronounce the word leisure as "lee-zhur" or "leh-zhur" is an accent difference, not a difference in voice. This is why you can hear a grown English man and a young English girl speak, and you can still tell that they're from the same...

It doesn't mean anything; it's a filler sound like la la la or "a-down-a-down-a-down-a" (Hamlet), used to keep the tune in old songs. Sometimes, an entire refrain was nonsense syllables.

It's a poem if you say it is, frankly. In fact, I think that some of the best poems do sound like normal speech. Well, it's not a book, per se, but Dear Abby's pamphlet called "How to be Popular" is pretty good. I also am partial to anything by Judith Martin (Miss Manners), whose books are available on Amazon.com.
Answer to:
I am trying to remember the name of a book I read in first grade I believe it was, it was a boy who had a pet snake and his pet snake ate everything, if I remember correctly the author made other books about this boy's pet snake eating everything in sight
Are you talking about The Greedy Python, by Richard Buckley? It was illustrated by Eric Carle, who is distinctive for his style used in The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

What are some good male broadway solos?
"Epiphany" and "Johanna" from Sweeney Todd are both great. A Broadway producer I used to know once said that every time he did a show, somebody used Johanna, and he almost always got the role. Also a great one is "Funny" from City of Angels. Those are some of the ones that people nowadays may not be hearing so frequently.

Should all countries be known universally by their endonyms (i.e 'Deutschland') as opposed to exonyms (i.e 'Germany', 'Allemagne', 'Alemania')?
It only makes sense to me. I don't understand why we don't do that -- why bother making up new names for countries that already have them? When I went to France, they didn't translate my name. Why do so with countries? I can only see doing that when we need to spell out a country's name that uses a different alphabet, but even then it should be the word they use.

What is an "aquired taste"?
An acquired taste is when you try something and you don't like it, but you can learn to appreciate it if you keep at it. Examples include beer and cigarettes (though I see no reason to bother acquiring those tastes), as well as unfamiliar music, art, and food.

Im going to a visitational for a death, what is appropriate to wear?
For most cultures, "Sunday clothes" works well. A pair of slacks and nice shirt, or a dress or skirt would be fine if you're female. There are some ethnicities and traditions which discourage certain colors, but I'm afraid I don't know them. Some people think wearing red is disrespectful. I don't agree, but you might want to avoid it just to be on the safe...

Ok, I'll join. It means that the driver is a man who does not mind that people make fun of his religious beliefs without bothering to get to know him or talk to him or find out how he would treat them. Um, less than that! Goodness! That really makes my fiance's desire for six kids seem much more reasonable (though not reasonable enough for me to agree). I'm thinking two or three. Not six, and NOT 17.

Would you be ok with your son/daughter dating another race or ethnicity?
I would be fine with it, but I would ask my child to proceed with caution for two reasons: the first is that dating/marrying outside one's race means that if there are any bigots on either side of the family, there may be issues at gatherings. Not that such issues should stop a couple in love, but they should be prepared.
Secondly, if the person is from another culture (not just ethnic...

I'm sure that each school has its own set of guidelines about dress code. Many people don't take teachers seriously, or act like we teach because we can't get a job that "makes real money" (which is stupid). If we want to be treated...

I think it depends on the level of challenge. There are some people who are challenged, but still capable of making decisions and taking care of themselves. If the couple can not live on their own, then I don't think they should raise children. Otherwise, I...

Have there been so many religious pedophiles because repression leads to perversion?
I don't think so. Now, I preface this with a caveat: I am not a sociologist or a student of deviant psychology/sexuality. So I could be wrong here. But, from my understanding, there is not a particular preponderance of religious pedophiles. It's just that those people make the news more, because of the position of trust into which they have been placed. Just like sick teachers...

If you ever had a role model (mom, dad, teacher, friend), what was the signature quality or trait you admired most, and have you succeeded in achieving that for yourself?
My mother was sharply intelligent, as well as being incredibly positive. Ever since I was a little girl, if I was upset about something, she would say, "This is how it is. You can choose to be happy or you can choose to be sad, but it won't change anything besides you." I realized just how much she applied that to her life when she was going through chemotherapy for pancreatic...

How do I know what ring to buy my girlfriend to propose to her
You have several options. Your first one is to just guess. Ok, so yes, we love our men, and our marriage is way more important than whether we like the ring. This is all true. However, your lady will have to wear this ring every single day for the rest of her life. Shouldn't it be one that is her style? I only recommend this if you really know what her taste is, or if you absolutely...

If a tipsy Winston Churchill stumbled into your house, and you told him he was drunk, what would you say if he replied "I may be drunk, but you're ugly, and in the morning I'll be sober"?
I would say, "AGH! You're dead!" And then I would shoot him in the head so he did not eat my brains. Drunken zombies with witticisms are still dangerous.

He is very lucky that you're so understanding. His behavior is completely normal; the best thing you can do for him is be ready to listen if he wants to talk. Do not try to make him feel better. Nothing you can say will do that. On what seems to be a "good day," you might want to ask him how you can be a suport to him. Let him know that you are happy to listen to him if he...

Yes. Sorry. The movie has some good points, but it's not great even on its own. As an adaptation of the book, it is quite sad. If you watch it, do so only for the graphics -- the visuals of the movie are pretty impressive. But it ends there.

What percentage of annual income is a sensible limit to be owing on unsecured loans / credit cards?
I agree with the prevailing comments that it is ideal to have no credit cards and no debt. However, I have also been witness to a friend of mine who had no debt, no bills, and no credit. He had a great deal of difficulty getting a car, because he had no history of paying off debt. It would seem that, lacking a large amount of cash in reserve (which would be nice, of course, but we all know...

I have been living in the south for almost two years now and have yet to hear an explanation as to why people always refer to someone by "Mr." or "Miss" in front of their FIRST name(up north we use the last name, mostly for elders)...why is this?
We do both. Even here in the South, a young person is expected to address an adult by his or her last name. The "Mr./Ms.+ First name" is reserved for people with whom a child is very close, like a family friend with whom he or she grew up. It's a sort of happy medium that demonstrates the close (almost familial) relationship between the child and adult, but still places the...

I think it might be a little annoying, but I don't think it would bother me overly. Some people are not good at figuring out exactly how much they have to spend including tax and whatnot. Part of every job is dealing with its little annoyances.

From your original question, I'd say that it's not controlling. However, from your first comment, I'd say that you have something to raise a concern. If he is truly lacking in trust to such a degree, I think you two could benefit from some counseling. While I don't think spouses should keep secrets from one another, I also believe that in a trusting relationship, there is...

If you have been married for several years and suddenly found out that your marriage was never legal, would you have another ceremony, or simply legalize the marriage? - or would you even remarry at all?
I suppose that would depend on why it wasn't legal. If it wasn't legal because he failed to disclose that he was simultaneously married to four other women, I think that would be the end of our marriage. But if there were some mistake, like the preacher failed to submit our marriage license or something, then I would probably just legalize the marriage. My marriage would be done by...

Only go to Japan if you have a desire to teach! One of my pet peeves is when people indicate that any moron can teach a class. It's not true! Teaching is a difficult, tiring, and specialized field. However, it is also incredibly rewarding. If you were asked to teach English as a second language in America, would you cringe and run away? If so, please don't go do so in another...

Jewelry is always a safe bet, unless she just really doesn't care for that stuff. Make sure her ears are pierced before buying earrings. If you're comfortable with blue polish, it would go nicely. If not, or if it's not a party filled with people who would appreciate blue polish, you can go with clear or a very neutral color (light mauve is almost always safe no matter what you wear). Avoid red, unless you really want your nails to be the focus of the outfit.

If a close friend of yours invites you and your date out to dinner for his daughters birthday, who pays the dinner bill, you or the person who invited you?
I would expect that he would pay for it, but it depends on the asking. If he offered to take you out, then he is offering to pay. If he simply asked if you'd like to join them, then he might be expecting you to pay for yourself. I would take your cue from him -- he will probably say whether the check should be split or not. If you still aren't sure, when the check comes around,...

I'm very religious as well, but if you can't find it in the Bible, then I would doubt that it's a rule from God. Ladies: what advice do you give a woman who wants to wear slinky high heels, but can't walk upright in them?
Be sure that they're actually what you want. A woman looks sexy in clothes that flatter her and make her feel confident. Not when she's wobbling. The kitten heel suggestion was great -- they look super sexy without making the woman look like a fool. Also, I know a lot of men, and none of them find a woman who "can't walk that far in these shoes" sexy. None. They...

I think being a stay-at-home parent is great -- if the parent in question is suited for it. Just like any other job, it is not for everybody. Well, here's the thing. I don't consider it rude. You don't consider it rude. But some people might not want their nationality known. You can pay your respects to the loved one in any way and in any place that is comforting to you. People go to the cemetery because there is a symbol there: the grave itself. It makes the mourner feel close to the deceased. But this is for you, so you should go wherever you feel comforted. If that is the place where the ashes were scattered, then that's fine. But if it isn't, or...

You do NOT have to pick a course of study right away. At all. And if the college you're looking at says that you do, go somewhere else.

A party invitation is never an obligation. I would go to the party and only stay for a little while. However, hyper dogs don't bother me. I think they are very different crimes, though both are horrible things to do. The crime against the woman is the invasion -- the physical control the man exerts over her. The effects of the act include humiliation, fear of men in general, and difficulty trusting. If the woman was married, it likely will affect her relationship with her husband.

Whenever I take a class, club, or sport there's always 1 or 2 guys (sometimes girls) who act like idiots and do stupid things for a laugh or attention in the annoying sense. Why do people like them act that way?
It's probably because they do not know how to appropriately get attention. When teens (and sometimes adults, alas) are uncomfortable or unsure of themselves, they will sometimes act like morons on purpose, rather than risk looking foolish by accident. It's social awkwardness, and most people grow out of it. Good for you for not being part of it.

I don't. Well, that sounds cocky, doesn't it? But very, very rarely -- if I do, it's usually a typo. Apostrophes are one of my pet peeves. I'm a big nerd.

Why work for a funeral home?
A good friend of mine works at a funeral home. He does it because he is good at it, and it's very important. When my mother was terminally ill, he was so helpful to me and my dad in planning and preparation. It's a job like any other, and if dealing with death and dead bodies doesn't bother you, it generally pays well.

How long have you had the same hairstyle? Do you think older women should have short hair?
I have been growing my hair out for years, though there have been minor changes during that time. But to say an older woman should have short hair is silly! That trend came about because it's easier on moms to have less to do to style their hair and because as we age, SOMETIMES our hair loses its health. I think if an older woman's hair is getting thin or stringy, she might want to...

What is an average weight for an 11 year old girl that is 4'11 and is a gymnast?
Unless it is at an extreme, I think "average weight" doesn't matter much. Especially before/around puberty, there is practically no such thing as average weight. An 11-year-old girl who is a gymnast is likely very healthy. If you are concerned about your weight, you may talk to your doctor. But please don't obsess over the scale. If you are active and in good enough...

I just turned 18 in June and don't have any credit established. I hate my car, which is in my name, and can probably sell it for about 3,000 and use it as a down payment. Should I finance a new car?
Car credit is the hardest type to get -- that means that it is easier to get a mortgage than a car financed. If you're interested in building credit, talk to somebody with experience first. The most obvious choice is getting a credit card, but that is a HARD temptation to resist. Having a credit card to establish some credit is a good thing. Having one to spend excessively with and run...

Answer to:
As Christians how can we condon the suffering caused throughout history for God's cause, ie. the inquisition.
We can't condone such things. Being a Christian does not mean approving of all things that people claim to do because of God. By the logic of that question, all Christians condone everything from Jerry Falwell to Hitler. And, unfortunately, it seems many non-Christians think that's what we do. The Bible is abundantly clear that we are to follow in the footsteps of Christ as best...

What does the phrase "what rolls downhill" mean?
You misheard the phrase; it's "Sh-- rolls downhill." And it means that when something bad happens to a person in charge, it will happen to the people beneath him as well. For example, if your boss gets in trouble because he didn't do his job right, he's going to blame it on his assistant, who will then get yelled at. The assistant blames it on his team, who now have...

Where does your middle name come from and what does it mean?
Amarinthia: variant of Amaranth, meaning "unfading flower." From the Greek myth of Amaranthus, the hunter whom Artemis loved. He insulted Poseidon, who drowned him with a wave. Artemis turned him into an amaranth flower.

MY 11 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DOESN'T WANT TO VISIT WITH HER FATHER ON A SET SCHEDULE. THE REASON IS THAT HE DOESN'T SPEND TIME WITH HER & WHEN IT IS HIS TIME NOTHING SHE HAS GOING ON IS IMPORTANT. WHAT CAN I DO AS A MOTHER?
I agree with the posters who say something should be said to the father. You are the best judge as to which would be more effective: having her speak to him, or doing so yourself.
However, I disagree with the prevailing opinion that he obviously wants to spend time with her. That's not necessarily true -- my father did not want to spend time with me. He merely wanted to take the...

Why do some people who can afford it, refuse to expand their culture by visiting other countries? My grandfather won't even eat any un-american food.
Xenophobia is the fear/unnatural hatred of foreigners, and many people are affected by it. This is not like a fear of spiders, where you see them and scream and run away. It's more like homophobia, where you distrust or automatically dislike the person.
It's particularly common (in America, at least) among people of your grandfather's age. Think about how he was raised....

My friend recently entered a new relationship, though it kind of has been at the cost of our friendship. I want him to be happy, but I don't wan to be blown off. I used to think the friendship was worth saving, but now I think it might be time to end it?
Sometimes in a new relationship, other considerations sort of fade into the background for a little while. Right or wrong, it's fairly common. I wouldn't write your friendship off just yet.
If you have a good relationship with your friend, you should be able to talk to him. Let him know that you are happy that he is in a relationship, but that you feel like you're missing...

As others have noted, shampoos and conditioners cannot give you split ends. However, a good conditioner is important to help your hair maintain its felxibility so those other activities (blow-drying, brushing, etc.) don't hurt it so easily.

I did not want to put my hair through the trauma of more color to go back to my natural shade, so my stylist used a demi-permanent gloss over my whole head to match the shade. It puts less stress on your hair than a permanent color (no bleach) and blends nicely. Looks very natural.

Snayles is right that at-home hair color is risky. However, if you have done it before and are comfortable with it, yes, you can mix colors. Know, though, that it WILL change the color it comes out. It's a political system in which the State is supreme (by State, I mean nation. As in, Italy, not Texas). It was started in Italy by Benito Mussolini, but has spread since then.

Why are attorneys always referred to as attorneys at law? Are there attorneys that practice something else?
An "attorney" is one who acts for another person. There are two types: an attorney-in-fact and an attorney-at-law. An attorney-at-law is somebody who is licensed to practice law on behalf of other people.
"Attorney-in-fact" is a phrase that has largely fallen out of use, with one exception: power of attorney. Having power of attorney has nothing to do with being...

Being forgiving doesn't mean not standing up for yourself. I think there is a middle ground here you're not exploring. I'm not sure about "that common." I'd say it depends on the the group of kids you're looking at. I think everybody thinks that their own life is "how life is." It can be a statement which defies itself. For example, "I always lie." If I always lie, then that statement is a lie. But if that statement is a lie, then there's no reason to believe it.
It can also be something which seems to be impossible but is actually true. For example, "You're always talking, but you never have anything to say."

Assuming Scripture to be true (which many on here do not; that is their prerogative), God has control over all things. So, yes, Satan could have influenced writers. In my experience, there is no difference. What can make a difference is using some kind of primer and/or setting powder. Also, a setting powder can help (again, Laura Mercier's is famous for being a good deal). However, as...

I have definitely noticed a sense of entitlement in young people, and I think it has to do with the fact that they aren't made to work for anything. Why do some women have sex before marraige and when they get married they where a white gown that symbolized pureity even though they are not a virgin anymore? Is it just a traditional color or does it have meaning?
Several reasons: The first is that it's tradition. Women wear a white gown because that's what most people wear to weddings, and they don't care to advertise their sexual relationships to their great aunt Ida who came down to see them get hitched.
Also, a white gown was NOT originally meant to symbolize purity or virginity. It was intended to symbolize wealth --...

If you've seen the "normal" museums, check out some of the unusual ones. The Holocause museum is a must-see, at least once. Also, you can see some really strange art at the Menil collection. There's the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, and the Weather museum. The Children's Museum is fun no matter how old you are, and everybody should experience the butterfly...

How do I encourage a child to exercise?
Like anything else, it's about starting young and setting an example. What you don't want to do is tell your child that they need to start exercising. I don't know about you, but that would have hurt my feelings and made me not want to do it. However, going out to play volleyball with them, letting them choose sports to get involved with, enrolling them in a summer camp: all...

When you see a Muslim woman do you trust her and do you think that she is some ones property for covering up with the blanket over her with holes?

Answer to:
I have tickets to see either Cats, White Christmas, Damn Yankees, Hairspray, or High School Musical on stage. I have no idea what any of these are about. What should I see?
It depends on your taste. I don't know how old you are or what you like, but I'm in my mid 20's and here's my thoughts on the matter:
I hate Cats. I think it's boring and stupid. HOWEVER; it is incredibly famous, and you may already have heard some of the songs. It's about (predictably) a bunch of cats in a garbage heap.
High School Musical is fine;...

Answer to:
Are you a Christian? Why or why not?
I am a Christian, and it isn't because I'm ignorant or because my parents were. I'm not ignorant -- I'm reasonably intelligent. Also, my family was not Christian growing up. I'm Christian because after doing a great deal of reading, soul-searching, and prayer, I was convinced that not only is God real, but that Jesus is His Son. Since then, I have formed a...
