Answer to:
How do i fit rear brake pads and discs to a 1999 e46 bmw do i need any special equipment eg to compress the piston and remove the disc from the car
Irrespective of whether your car is an E46 or E36 the procedure is the same.
You will need a 6 and 7 mm allen/hex key, a 16/17/18mm socket, a small lever bar and a big pair of grips.
With the lever bar, first prise the anti clatter clip (a sort of M shaped metal spring thing) from the brake caliper. Then lever the pads away from the disc a little to assist in removing the caliper in a...

From any perspective, what is a good response for someone who asks, "If there is a God, why would he let people suffer?" I understand how they feel so I don't want to sound condiscending but I want to give them a meaningful answer without offening them.
For the sake of the question, lets assume 'God' is a decision-making being. God permits the existence of 'bad' in all its forms to allow a comparison. In short: How could one be expected to feel good without having felt bad?
There are numerous analogies which the simplest mind could conjure or understand...

Answer to:
Why will my 1997 BMW 5 series air conditioning not cool at slow speeds and not cool enough at high speeds? The local shop says it checks out OK. What do I do now?
The fact that your air con. effectiveness is effected by vehicle speed would suggest a problem with condenser efficiency and or condenser cooling fan operation. Low refrigerant volume could cause the same complaint but if your garage has not picked up on this then you can ignore this possibility. If your condenser is clogged or fouled with dust or other road related crap it will not allow the...

What is the fastest street legal car, not a production car, and how many horses does it have?
Most street legal cars have no posessions and even fewer own horses. Horses are notoriously expensive animals to keep and the high fuel consumption of fast road cars rules out the possibility of having pets.
Further more, as an inanimate object, a car would find it difficult to acquire any personal belongings and raises some interesting issues probably better suited to the 'legal' section.

I just recently cheated on my boyfriend of 6yrs with my daughter Dad. I never new how much he loved me until this. How do I tell him I am sorry and convince him it will never happen again?
Realistically you cannot assure him it won't happen again. It happened once so it may happen again. What you are experiencing is his heightened attention as a result of his fear of being alone (dumped). If he hasn't shown you this love before, why not?
You should really be considering how, after a 6 year relationship, you can surrender yourself intimately to the father of your daughter......

What is a "dry sump" oil system?
Normal 'wet sump' lubrication systems rely on a large 'bowl' reservoir in the sump underneath the engine to catch and store the engine oil which isn't currently flowing throught the pump or oil channels. The oil pump picks up oil from this pool as it is needed. However. If significant, prolonged G-forces are generated by the vehicle (such as in fast cornering,...

What items should be in a first-aid kit for camping?
In addition to the relevant advice above...
One should consider what the possible hazards and threats to the camper are before packing a first aid kit. One should also bear in mind what purpose a first aid kit serves. Sun screen (for example) is not a first aid item since it does not serve any purpose following and illness or injury (first aid).
Every first aid kit will be different depending...

Is it true that saying the Our Father prayer backwards summons the devil?
The entities of 'Our Father' and 'The Devil' are inventions. How one relates to another (if at all) is purely the interpretation of the individual and is reliant on their imagination.
An embodiment of pure evil, however, does exist. Not as a pseudo-mythical being (Religion would have it in the convenient form of an immortal). The actual existance of evil 'the...

What are compression brakes?
Technically there is no such 'device' as compression brakes. The action of compression braking (or exhaust braking) relies on a deliberate obstruction in the exhaust manifold (header) of a large diesel engine. This action dramatically reduces the engine speed due to the work required to compress the inducted air against the exhaust brake butterfly. This reduced engine speed is...
Answer to:
Is a shotgun or rifle better for hunting squirrels?
In addition to the very sound advice above i would like to put forward a safety consideration.
A rifle can dispatch a squirrel instantly and with no damage to the edible parts but the implicaion of a missing bullet (rifle) rather than shot pellets (shot gun) is potentially far greater. A responsible rifle shooter would never fire on a target where the back drop is open sky. Since squirrels...

Can I tell from my Vehicle Identification Number whether my car is a front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive vehicle?
The VIN plate of your car does not divulge the drive type in a form which you can decifer. You can however contact a dealership of the appropriate manufacturer and they can inform you of the original factory specification of the vehicle. Sometimes even down to the interior trim.
If you simply want to know the drive type by any means there are various staggeringly obvious solutions. Here is...

How do lane departure warning systems know when you are driving out of your lane?
A bank of sensors continuously monitors any clearly repeated road markings at either side of the car much like an ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) counts the grooves on the wheel rotor. If the sensor detects the car moving over a line of markings without the driver activating a turn signal the system computer assumes the driver is acting unintentionally and a warning is sounded to either alert,...
Answer to:
If an engine failure resulted in a cracked and chipped cylinder wall and a melted and fragmented piston, what initial symptoms would the driver have felt?
All engines and drivers are different dependent on the driver's sensitivity, they may not pick up on indicative symptoms that another would. That said, here are a few likely scenarios.
1. If the damage of the piston crown is extensive enough to make a hole all the way through, oil would be pushed into the combustion chamber and hot exhaust manifold (header if you're not English)....
Answer to:
What damage would be caused by a oil running dry in a turbo engine?
All problems associated with running a normally aspirated engine dry also apply here but there are additional problems due to the turbo's dependence on oil. The bearing in a turbo is a normally a plain bearing. As with main crank and cam journals, lack of oil can cause the bearing to seize almost immediately. In less exteme cases excessive wear can occurr which, in turn, can lead to either...
