In your own personal opinion, should a 14 year old be made to keep their bedroom clean or should they be allowed to leave it messy if they choose because their room is their own space?
It is up to the parent. I don't make my son keep his room all that neat and he is younger than 14. However, it needs to be neat enough to clean on occasion. I don't mind messy, but I don't want dirt and stink. Also, if you can't keep track of your dirty and clean clothes, then don't come crying to me when you don't have anything to wear.

Why do people refer to the USA as America when it is only a small part of the continent?
I say I'm from the US. However, I would say "I'm American." It would just be weird to say I'm a United States of American. Yes, technically Canadians, Hondurans and Argentianians are American too. The US just happens to have the name of its country in common with the name of the continent. It isn't an arrogance thing, it is just the commonality of the name.

Because they are highly educated and licensed professionals. In most states now you have to have a Master's degree and pass the CPA exam. Most accountants who make that kind of money aren't just preparing taxes. They are making sure that companies are in compliance with securities laws (Sarbannes Oxley to name one).

What are you drinking? A lot of people drink many more calories than they realize.
Additionally, if you are eating too much fruit, that could be adding up to too many calories. Also, even though white meat is much lower in fat and calories than other types of meat, it can still add up to too many calories if your portion sizes are too large.

My 4 year old was given a medication that has to be crushed and taken with food. How do I give it to her? Seems like a silly question, but I can't imagine she'll simply take a gross tasting crushed up pill.
We had to do that for our son. We would put in on a spoonful of:
yogurt, peanut butter, applesauce, pudding, oatmeal or anything that is that consistency. Mixing it with a drink can backfire as it may all sink to the bottom, and mixing it with too much food as she may not eat all of it.

I don't think Gov't is too big on the elected officials end. I think most think it is too big on the bureaucracy end. Too many administrative offices, agencies, "czars", and the like. I also think some people say government is too big when they really mean government is getting involved in areas of our lives they would prefer government stay out of.

The song "Small Town" by John Mellencamp kind of sums up my experience, aside from the "probably die in a small town". I don't live in a small town anymore. Looking back, growing up there wasn't as bad as I thought it was at the time, however, I did get out and I really have no desire to ever live there again. Are you for or against factory farms and why?
Against, CAFOs are terrible for the animals and not good for humans either.
Industrial farming depletes the nutrients in the soil. The combination of industrial farming and the way our farm subsidies are structured has lead us to a single (or 2) crop farming. (Corn and soy).
Industrial farming also leads to more people getting sick from food born illnesses and making the food born...

I think it depends on the age of a child. I think a child under 4 doesn't know the difference. I think they start figuring it out around 4.

He did everything right under highly stressful conditions which is what makes him a hero. Few people can keep their cool and not panic in such a situation. He may have had some luck on his side, but if he had not acted they way he did, things could had turned out very differently.

I'm not scared of the two I live with. Granted, they are new to it, but I don't think I will find them scary even in several years. I'm not scared of the Tae Kwand Do Master who teaches them either. For one thing, one of the main tenants of the teaching is not to use the skills to harm someone, unless you are using it self defense.

Do you find education to be better, if you compare it with how it was 40 years ago in America?
There are things that are better and things that are worse. Some of the things my son does in school are unbelievable. They are WAY beyond what I was doing at that age. I think the high school classes where I work are much more demanding than when I was in school too.
However, I think that has also lead to more cheating. More just trying to get the right answer rather than truly...

When my son was that age, he really needed direction. To say "Pick up your room" was too overwhelming to him. But if you went in with him and said "OK, pick up the trucks." and waited until he picked up the trucks and then said "Now, pick up the books." and so on, it would get done and with much less arguing.

Since you are putting this in the high school category, I'm going to answer the student. By high school, students pretty much need to ensure their own education, by following directions, doing the assignments and asking for additional help when they need it.
Teachers have the responsibility to make sure they do their job and teach well. They should provide appropriate lessons and course...

Sometimes words have more than one accepted pronounciation and when someone well known, or the media choose one pronounciation, then many of us follow. My guess is that Pakistanies say it like the second pronounciation, so when someone went there they started prounouncing it that way.

No, for candy you really have to have a thermometer or you won't get the proper consistency. You can try the old fashioned method of dropping a drop into cold water to see what stage it is in, (soft ball, hard ball...), but if you're not used to that, it might not work too well.

How do I make a white chocolate latte like Starbucks without an espresso machine.
You have to have some way to make espresso. It doesn't have to be an expensive machine, you can use one of the stove top espresso makers. I have a little hand held Bodin frothers, which are also inexpensive.
So, you make the espresso, heat and froth the milk (the milk has to be heated to froth), and flavor with white chocolate flavored syrup.

If a student with a learning disability needs extra time normally to write a test, and they happen to be late on a day of a test, should they still get the extra time they need to write the test?
If the tardy is excused then yes. Also, I think it depends on how late.
If the tardy is unexcused, they should get the same amount of time, minus the time they were late. For example, if the gen. ed. kids get 60 minutes and the L.D. student gets 50% extra time so would normally get 90 minutes, the time they were late should be subtracted from the 90 minutes. I like a man who claims he only wants to be f**k buddies, but he gives all the signs of liking me, everyone says oh he has it bad for you. He talks to me about others he wants to "date" we have never been on a date. what do I do?
If a man tells you he just wants to be friends with benefits, then take his word for it. At least he's not lying to you.
If you can accept that, then go with it. If you can't live with that, then call it off. Don't hang around thinking you're going to change his mind though, or I fear you will be hurt and disappointed.

Consistency. Eventually, the time outs will work. Also, they say you should put them in time-out for every minute for every year of age. 3 minutes is a pretty long time for a child of that age, even though it seems like nothing to us. Also, tell him the time starts when he starts being quiet. Then, set a time so he knows when he can get out.

Is it very hard to learn how to ice skate? Also, what is the earliest age to start teaching a child. My son is about to be 3, and I am wondering if that is too young to take him?
My son learned to skate when he was about 5. There were kids at the rink younger than him. At some rinks, they have these little things kind of like a walker, but for ice, that the little ones can use to balance as they learn to skate.
The only thing I would worry about with a 3 year old is that their sense of balance is still developing and you do have to balance when you skate.

The only reason they should be in his will is if they are the guardians of the child if something happens to BOTH of the child's parents. You also don't know if something like this happens to that restaurant (and/or others in the area) on a regular basis. While it may seem heartless, if the restaurant is approached on a regular basis by people begging, even if it is just to exchange work for food, they may have had to put an end to...

Why won't my parents stop worrying abt me? I'm a daughter who is very well raised and really smart. I just got my license and they won't let me drive by myself even tho im very good at it...their only excuse is that i don't have enuf experience
Because car accidents are the number one reason for teen deaths. It does have to do with experience. Even if you are a very careful driver, you don't have the experience to necessarily judge what another driver may be doing.
Give them time for you to prove yourself and for them to get used to the idea of you driving alone. They are doing it because they value your life.

Actually, as far as cooked vegetables go, the healthiest way is supposed to be to boil them, and then puree them in the water they were boiled in. However, aside from maybe mashed potatoes, I don't think most of us want to eat pureed veggies.
I think that fixing them in a manner in which you like them best and are going to eat the most is the healthiest way to eat them.

Technically speaking, we are not in a recession, because we haven't had 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth. I think that's a very narrow definition and it does not mean the economy is good. It also doesn't take into account specific areas of the country that are in a recession or worse.

Can a catholic girl marry a christian man if we love each other?
Yes, my mom is Catholic and my father is Methodist and they have been married over 40 years. They were married in the Church and my father has never converted to Catholocism.

How do u know when u r burned out of ur current job
I knew when I would wake up sick to my stomach at the thought of going to work every day. At fist I thought it was just where I worked (which was part of it), but when I started looking for a new job, the thought of doing that same job, even somewhere else, just simply did not appeal to me anymore. More than not appeal to me, I can't even think about it anymore.

In comparison to mozzarella, what does goats cheese taste like?
It really tastes nothing like mozzarella. Some goat cheese is mild and some is strong. If you've ever had feta cheese, it tastes more similar to feta than it does mozzerella.
Most goat cheese I've had is more mild than any sort of blue cheese.
If you've ever had Boursin cheese, it is often more like that consistency wise as long as it is the fresh or semi-dry variety.

Undergraduate was 4 years and a semester, and that was mostly because I had a double major and it took me that long to be able to get some required classes I needed and not have time conflicts. I actually think too that my last semester wasn't a full credit load, if I remember correctly.

How can someone fit, eats healthy have a higher cholesterol level than someone overweight, eats bad, smokes? Can this be right?
It can be. There is a genetic component. When I was 26, I worked out a lot, was very trim, was a vegetarian and I had high cholesterol. My cholesterol ratio was good, and my triglycerides were low but the overall number was still high.
My very overweight uncle (married to my biological aunt), who did not work out or watch what he ate at all had almost dangerously low cholesterol.

Why do top quality restaurants have such small portions of food? Michelin starred ones for example
Because they actually serve food in the proper portion sizes that they should be eaten, not the over inflated sizes that are enough to feed a family of four.
Additionally, top quality restaurants expect you will be eating courses, all of the courses combined are more than enough food. If they serve too much, you won't be able to enjoy all of the courses.
