About me: I'm a retired professor. For many years I taught English literature and language; also business and managerial communication; also intercultural communication.

This is me, dressed up for a party, in December 07.

I've been married since 1985 to a wonderful and talented guy. My kids' dad, who was also a terrific person (lightning does strike twice in the same place sometimes), died in 1980. It was hard for my two sons to lose their dad when they did, but they both think the world of their stepdad.

Here we have my husband and me, also from December 07.

My older son and his wife (who is my close friend - a daughter-in-law that anyone would be glad to have) moved to our town in November 07. They live less than a mile from us, and we have a lot of fun with them. My younger son, his wife, and their four kids live and teach on the Navajo Reservation in Northeastern Arizona. We don't see them often enough - it's a nine-hour drive, and flying isn't faster. They're far from any major airport - but the terrain there is beautiful. Think Monument Valley.

Favorite activities of mine, besides family, include gardening, travel, reading, music, genealogical research, restoring old photos (I'm fairly good at PhotoShop), making things, learning new stuff, writing, playing with our two cats Guinness and Harp, and lots of other things. My husband draws really well and paints in acrylics. I used to paint in oils, but when he began making art just a few years ago, he immediately became so much better than I ever was that I cheerfully yielded him the mantle.

(My avatar IS a portion of a painting of my own, though.)

I really enjoy the comraderie on AnswerBag. I like the broad variety of individuals who input here. I spend entirely too much time here (^_^) and need to back off a little.
