Answer to:
Do you think that a poor person or even a lower middle class person could ever become President of the US?
I don't think it's so much that there is personal wealth, but someone that knows how to generate money. The campaign alone can run millions, but if it's an extremely smart person they draw the money in.

My 21 month old son drinks out of the toilet. I sometimes catch him before he can do it but I'm too late occasionally too... What would you suggest to get him to stop?
Okay, your son is still in training. He may know how to use the toilet, but doesn't competely understand the use of the toilet. If you don't want to shut or lock the door, then you need to watch your son like a hawk. You need to explain to him every time he goes into the bathroom that the toilet is "yucky". The reality is, if someone uses the toilet & gets feces on...

Aside from the fact that Obama isn't Bush, why do you feel that he'll be a good president, (assuming that you do, of course)?
I think that we've have 8 years of brash tactics. We are due for a diplomat. I think Obama has the charism and intelligence to be able to make a huge change. He may not be able to get our troops out of Iraq as quickly as he'd like, but I think he would be able to get the process turned in that direction.

I would hope for only good health on Mr. McCain or who ever becomes president. I would prefer to vote directly for the first female President. Maybe in the next 8 years there will be two female Presidential nominees after Obama's terms end. :)

Why did McCain choose Sara Palin, the Governor of Alaska as his running mate? Think he is attempting to get some of Hillarys female supporters?
I have spent the day reading up on Sara Palin. She is very smart and full of energy. I am sure that McCain picked her because of that and because it is history making. Most people really don't pay that much attention to the VP selection unless the person is from their state. This year no matter who wins the election it will be history making. It also turns everyone's eyes back on...

My brother died a few years ago. I'm having trouble dealing with depression. I consider myself a proud person so I don't want to seek counseling. What other alternatives can I take to get better? It's killing me.
Pride is something that stops a person from doing what needs to be done. Talking is sometimes the best way to work through your emotions. A licensed professional like a psychologist or a social worker is trained at guiding you through through this time. There really is not a magical alternative. You might want to see a doctor. He/she might prescribe an antidepressant to take the edge off so...

Actually I think this is a great statement. I try to read and stay up on current evens, but I don't know all there is to know about the canidates. Actually, check with your community rec center, YMCA, Boy/Girls club & so forth. Depending on where you live, there are often organized recreational football teams. I might suggest rugby as an alternate sport. I can't tell if you have quit school or graduated H.S., but if you have your diploma or G.E.D. maybe you can continue your education and get on a school team. It's a start.

Yes. However...I had a slight prescription for a bifocal until I had lasik surgery. They didn't correct the up close vision, but did this monovision thing. What is your philosophy on why relationships end quickly these days? (i.e. mine is: When they started making bucket seats in cars and separating couples).
It's a quick fix throw away society. The world is very fast paced with a lot of distractions that was not here even 25 years ago. If maybe relationships went "green" like recycled paper - maybe we'd see more long term relationships.

What constitutes moral support in relationships?
Moral support in a relationship is: listening, giving advice, standing up for you if someone talks you down, a hug, arm around the shoulders, an adoring look in the eyes, a note or words of encouragement....The list can go on. It's something that gives you strength and makes you feel good for who you are.

I don't know if you are using the word retarded literally or figuratively. I will assume figuratively and say this, all kids have problems with their parents at least once in a while. If your mother is abusive, let a friend, counselor, minister, police or someone know. If you are just feeling extreme emotions about some incident vent to a friend, counselor, minister or someone you know....

Would you rather live for 20 more years with the perfect body or for 50 more years and be morbidly obese?
I suppose 20 years with the perfect body. The one good thing is, if everyone chose the perfect body, people wouldn't be building relationships based soley on looks. But, in the long run the view wouldn't be as interesting.

Have you ever talked to your parents about having sex and if so how old were you then
That's almost a joke. When I was a kid my Dad got angry when I said the word pregnant in regard to someone else. I was suppose to say "with child" or nothing at all. My Dad is now in his 80's. So, no - no talk about sex in my childhood.

I agree with NeStAmArLey. It may be tough, but you need to get involved in something. If you work & like some of your co-workers, get a group to go out for supper. Or, check out a community center. Sometimes they have classes that might interest you either free or for a small fee. Good Luck!!

Well, if you have a job, a place to move into, enough money to eat and you are out of high school...move out. I don't know your mom, but as a Mom all I really want is for my kids to be safe, happy and have an outstanding future. Let me see...6 years of togetherness and a 5 second txt message. If he didn't think enough of you to talk to you...my guess is that he's the one that was cheating. Talk to him if that make YOU feel better, but I think I'd txt message him repeatedly with your thoughts of him.(I'd fill up his phone so much he'd have to change his number.) He sounds like a jerk. What would you do if you like this guy and ur friends don't approve of him cuz he used to pick on you for like 3 years, but all of a sudden was nice to you?
I think it really depends on his/your age, the degree of which he picked on you and the possibility of him having some evil motive. I assume that your friends are trying to protect you & don't want to see you hurt any further. With that said, I would be very cautious. If you hang around him try to get to know him slowly and with a group. Don't be alone with him. Make certain...

I am far from expert on the subject, but I think the answer is - it is an enabler that can lead addiction, i.e. over eating. Seasonings make food more paletable....it tastes better! No, I have no regrets. Relationships are not simple and a lot of work. I've been married 22 years. I have my faith in my husband. We are realistic enough to know that things can go wrong (and have), but we seem to somehow know the magic line not to cross to completely irreversibly piss each other off. Hummm...how does one measure happiness? I certainly would like enough money to always make ends meet and to have a few extras. I know a lot of people making close to $100,000 a year. You may want to pull your free credit report to know exactly what your credit rating is. A bankruptcy really hurts a credit rating. The only thing that I know for certain is, always pay on time and let time work for you. My experience is that it will take a good year for the credit record to show much improvement. It takes about 7 years for the bad reports to fall off of your record. I am not sure about the repo, but that might be longer like 10 years. There are other factors that play in to all of this as mentioned by...

I think this isn't a question that can be written in general. For a young healthy person who is upset over something - suicide is senseless. For someone with a terminal illness and there's no hope for recovery, well maybe. But even at that I have known people extremely ill and believed in life right up until their last breath. Okay, so I went to a little town neighboring Indianapolis today. In less than a mile the price at three stations were $3.59, $3.20 & $3.48. Of course the station was packed that was priced at $3.20 & I ended up paying $3.59. Supply and demand is not the excuse for this. There is an oil refinery in Indiana. A couple of weeks ago I heard that the price went up because of repairs...

Just short of using crazy glue, how do you help a child stop wetting the bed?
It really depends on the age of the child on how concerned I'd be. A few age old tricks can get you started - limit fluids after 6 p.m., no caffiene, make certain that the child is taken to the restroom before bed time. You might use a toileting schedule and get the child up in the middle of the night if the child doesn't have problems getting back to sleep. Sometime kids do well...

I know someone that has grown children & she says the same thing. In fact, she gets very angry about it. The reality is that everyone is responsible for educating the youth. When you are 90 yrs. old - they will be making the decisions for you and you want them educated.

Should homosexuals and lesbians be allowed to celebrate "Gay Pride" on public streets using tax payer dollars?
I would bet that all of those people pay taxes, too. It's possible that some of those police officers are gay along with the street cleaner and garbage man. A parade is typically a happy occasion. I'd like my taxpayer's money going for something like that any day rather that paying for a war that's lasting too long, paying for the meals of murderers sitting in prison not...

Do you think that President George W. Bush regrets his decision to go into Iraq?
Bush believed in the death sentence & used it a lot when he was a governor. It's an "eye for an eye" mentality. After 9/11 we all wanted to put an end to terrorism. Going to war seemed right... sad, but right. Now it appears that he is a war-monger as he makes no promise to get out. I am not military expert, but my guess is that he has no regrets.

It is said by some Christians that if you dont accept Christ as Saviour its eternal damnation in hell. Isnt that a bit harsh for a loving God and whats the thinking behind this strong doctrine?
I am a Christian, I do believe in Jesus Christ. One of the hardest things I ever heard in my life is when my grandfather passed away, his great great grand neice asked his sister if Uncle Bill was going to heaven. She said, "no - he didn't believe." I would like to think that the part of my grandfather that I love(d), who was good and kind to me, will be allowed into heaven....

I had them when I was little and had no desire to have a real tattoo. My son never had them when he was little, but now he has three real ones. I think the popularity of the real thing amongst the kids is what's influencing people to go through and get one or more. More importantly, people who have the real thing aren't bad people just because they have tattoos. So, to answer your...

I don't think the number of people that a person has sex with is the only defining factor to the word slut. I think it's an attitude, it's flirtation, the types of clothes a person wears, and so forth. The multiple sex partners just confirms the definition.

Okay, at 20 you are an adult. Your parents have no legal authority over you, but I realize the emotional authority is sometimes worse. A limo - no way. When the kids were little we did the Chuck E Cheese thing with a few friends. Great memories. "I say happy - You say Birthday!" My son had a friend that did the limo thing at about the age of 13 & then went to some place simular to Chuck E. Cheese. I thought that was extremely excessive. Not all states have statutes for "emancipation" for teenagers. Indiana is one that does not, however it is not impossible. This is a very tragic and unfortunate situation. I don't think a moral standard has been set as to whether it's right or wrong to have a funeral ceremony. It is a very personal family decision. In normal situations a memorial service of some sort is typically enough to "calm the soul" of the survivors. But, a situation like this would require a very different approach in...

It really depends - were you arrested? If you were, it may slow things down and possibly make it harder to get school loans especially if was a felony offence. If you weren't arrested then the most important thing to ask is: How are your grades and SAT scores? In the long run most anyone can go to some type of college as long as they do well on their entrance exams and have the financial...

Do you think people who insist on a prenup agreement are doomed to have their marriage fail due to lack of trust?
I would hope not. I would think that with divorce rates as high as they are, it would make the couple feel more confident about their future. They could potentially have more comfort in knowning that they are getting married for love not their things.

In my younger days I would have said no way & no need as I had nothing to split up. Today having an adult son & two teenagers, I would have to protect their future. I don't have a lot, but I have seen too many crazy people out there to not think about the "what if's."

Some things you can do to help your loved one is: 1)know what the signs of serious depression are - withdrawl, 10% weight loss/gain , reoccurring thoughts of something terrible is going to happen, too much sleep or not enough, anger,tearfulness...2) know that if she is threatening to hurt herself or others then intervention is a must. 3)provide random acts of kindness without saying a word...

In college I was taught that history goes in a coiling circle. It's is extremely important to learn from the past mistakes as well as successes. The unfortunate point is that not everyone learns from their past. Or, if they do they put apply to the evil - not the betterment of the future.

When you were a kid (living at home) did you get spanked or otherwise physically "punished" (including beaten) when your parents thought you did wrong? Do you think those spankings/beatings/punishments really made you a better adult?
I was spanked a few times(on the bottom), not beaten. I learned to fear the belt and all Dad had to do was start to unbuckle his belt and that was enough. I felt that I was disciplined. I didn't feel that anyone was wanting to cause true physical harm - just correction. I suppose that the problem with spanking is some people do it out of a knee jerk anger reaction.
