If God sends people to hell is that a God of love?
God does not send anyone to hell or purgatory. The soul itself on realising it's condition cannot stand in front of Goodness itself (God)and banishes itself from God. Eventually the soul is helped to overcome it's guilt and shame and makes it's way back home to God from whence it came

Anyone here read Hitchens' "God is Not Great?" Any thoughts?
Not read the book, but I can identify with the question. I have often thought, that yes, I can understand God being cross with me for the wrongs I have done to my fellow man, to the world and to myself, so offending him. But if you think about it seriously, what about the suffering God has inflicted on me. Did I ask to be born? Do I need to Die? Do I want to watch the people I love suffer...

If GOD created Man in His Image, and Man, by committing original sin obviously had a flawed character....does it mean GOD has a flawed character?
That is a good question, I have never been able to understand why God made man perfect yet gave him free will knowing that he had the capability (created in him by God) to be disobedient. No........ I don't think that's the way it was at all and to answer your question, we are made in God's image, so if we are flawed then God must have a flaw too.........or perhaps it's...

sometimes when a child has been persistantly naughty and you have tried everything in your power to get them to behave, a sharp slap on the legs is not a loss of control on your part but a calculated decision which could result in instant good behaviour from the offending youngster. when I was young it worked very well and it still works very well today.

But that one thing she said crippled me with guilt and regret for ages, and still hurts when...

Of course, if we all smiled at strangers it would cut down on hostility and maybe even cut down on wars. It's much better to smile than scowl it shows friendship rather than agression, acceptance rather then rejection. Go on smile, make someone's day.

What is the important difference between a "DREAM" & "AIM"?
When you have a goal in life, you first DREAM about it, you wish your dream into existance, then of course you have to have an action plan which is your AIM to get what it was that you first only dreamt of. So the difference is, the DREAM is the idea, the AIM is the action plan.

Why do people in this day, with this technology and advanced science, still believe in God?
Because some of us feel something within us which cannot be explained. It is something with which we can sometimes connect, get fleeting glimmers of beauty and comfort from and yet can never hold onto. Hence we seek to discover It and hold onto It. For myself I can only say, I am hardwired to find this God and no matter what science says to disprove It's existence, I personally know that...

I can see no reason not to believe that the personality survives physical death. Because there is usually some logical reason for it. People taking drugs arn't possessed by the Devil, they have a drug problem. People who take fits have a problem in the electrical wiring/neurons in their brains. etc., etc., Modern science gives us an explanation for what once was considered Demon possession. Do you have a favorite poetic verse? Please include a sample here...
Tell me not in countless numbers, life is just an empty dream
For the soul is dead that slumbers, and life is not what it seems.
Life is real, life is earnest, and the grave is not it's goal.
Dust thou art, to dust returneth, was not spoken of the soul.
I love the whole poem but that verse sums up just how I feel about life and death.

Don't stress, or worry about it, just relax and you will find it will be much easier for you. In honesty, it may hurt just a little, but that is only once, after the first time it won't hurt at all and you will be hooked on it. Sex with someone you love is just amazing, absolutely the very best feeling in the world you will be blown away by it. Best of luck for your wedding.

Yes.... my friend married at 34 and decided to wait a couple of years before having a baby. At 37 she went for fertility treatment to be told that her eggs were not good enough quality. They had left it too late. She's 46 now and childless. Don't wait too long.

Well the last time I was on a roller coaster on the front seat, the damn thing got stuck right at the top of the first climb. We were stuck there for half an hour while they sorted it out, looking back was a nightmare, really frightening. It hasn't put me off though I still love them.
Answer to:
It seems that most religions believe that they are the correct church/religion, why is that? and why do people always feel the need to push their beliefs onto others? i thought we arent supposed to judge others.
You should not push your beliefs on anyone as it may be that what a person believes in gives him/her their peace and security in life. To take that away from them is cruel. However, if someone wants a debate about a religious belief that's an entirely different story.

Whats the worst thought you ever had in church, temple, etc.?
I was 7 years old, I'd just been to confession and I asked God to let me die now while my soul was pure and before I could commit any real sin so that I would go to heaven and not hell. The nuns at my school made such a good job of making me feel wicked I wanted to die while I knew I was in a state of grace. How's that for indoctrination. True story folks.

How can i get my ex-husbands girlfiend of the last four years to understand that i care for my son's father but it is over and i don't want to be with him anymore?
I had the same problem with my ex and his girlfriend. I told her that no way did we want to get back together, but that it was difficult after 17 years together to just cut off caring for each other. She came to accept that - eventually she moved on to someone new and my ex and I remained friends. We've been apart 7 years now, so I think that proves I'm no threat to anyone.

Do christians have a right to say "Jesus is the only way"? Doesn't this suggest they are against all other religions, giving other religions a reason to be against them?
I think it would lead to much less strife between religions if Christians advocated following Christ's example rather than saying in effect no other religion will lead a soul back to God. It's living by Christ's example (I think) which leads us back to God, (by our deeds rather than words) although I think we are all on a journey back to God and will all get there eventually.

Would you be more promiscuous if there were no STDs?
I have never needed to consider STD's before having a sexual relationship, as I took the time to get to know my loved one before jumping into the sack with him. If we just jump into bed with any Tom, Dick or Harry, yes we are likely to contract an STD, we are also entering into an emotional abyss and as such are little more than animals.

WHY DO WE QUESTION ABOUT GOD'S CREATION? WHY ? NO RESPECT?
We are human, it is in our nature to question things, it's how we learn and how we evolve. It's by questioning that we discover God, little by little, we speak to each other and discuss what we know about God. It does not mean there is no respect, it means that God is such a fascinating subject we want to question and discuss everything about him.

What do you think about this statement.."It is smarter to bet that God exists and to believe in him because if it turns out he is real, you win everything; if he is not, you lose nothing. So why not take the leap of faith?"
It doesn't work that way. Either you believe or you don't. Body, soul and mind need to be engaged in order that you can take a leap of faith, without total involvement of all three everything else is just pretense and worthless.

Provided the internal balance of the body (homeostasis) is within it's correct range the human body is very strong and well adapted to fighting off infections. Once this balance is upset the body is prone to all sorts of illness. Physically, we are all different and some people have more physical strength than others, but internally there is balance and it is the same for us all.

I remember a funny tale in particular, the whole family were gathered together to celebrate a birthday, and my father who had recently grown a mustache turned to my mother and said "Olga, I know now why you don't like this tash, the women at work think I look like Omar Sharid and you must be jealous,...

Answer to:
My wife and are happily married, and have an adventurous sex life. What proportion of married couples engage in or have experimented with threesomes or swapping? What is the long term stability of those that do?
Are you mad? What respect could you have for each other if you had witnessed your partner taking pleasure with another person. You would have a mountain of insecurities about your ability as a lover, you would wonder if they would do this with you, what are they doing behind your back. This is something you should not do, please it's awful, it degrades all parties involved.

I would think probably zilch, with all the conditions that have to be in place for the emergence of life - I would say that there has to be a great organising power planning the sequence of events necessary for life to occur.

Do you think we pay too much lip service to Satan? His ears must prick up everytime he hears us mention his name, I notice he even has his own category on here.
Someone on here has said, "Satan does not exist, he is a creation of our own minds" He may well be a creation of our own minds, but that does not mean he does not exist. Everything in existence is a creation of mind. If he has been 'thought' into existence then he exists and the more attention that we give him the greater his power. Cut him out of your thoughts, out of...

Who is the oldest person you personally know?
now what is wrong with that question?
Answer to:
I'm a very laid back person in general. I've had two children, and both were excellent babies. Do you suppose that I passed on this personality trait genetically, or that my calm demeanor encourages calm babies? Or perhaps both?
Personally, I think it is a combination of both and also of course there is some input from the father. My children where really inquisitive rowdy and downright hard work when they were little, but now they're adults they're lovely intelligent human beings. I know where they get their inquisitiveness from but I don't know where there sunny personalities come from:+} Joking

If you see or hear about another AB user being bullied and/or harassed by other users for no obvious reason, do you ever step in and offer them your support (the one being bullied) or do you generally stay out of it and let them sort it out themselves?
Personally, I would support the person who is being bullied as it has happened to me on here and it is very unsettling. It feels very personal and can put you off wanting to talk, which is very unfair as I imagine this is the only conversation some people have.

Why do we often get offended by the truth or jump to the most negative conclusion about the motive, without first being informed? Is protection of ego & ignorance more important that truth and positive progression?
Because it's easy for people to jump on someone else's pre-formed negative opinion and take it for their own, than to think for themselves. Often people are frightened to speak their own mind if it goes against the majority.

My partner pays his ex £600 a month for one child, every weekend he treats her, buys some of her clothes and we always take her on holiday with us. His ex thinks he should also give his daughter £60 a month pocket money. What do you think?
Antigone, what you miss here is that the money is not going to his daughter (who I agree is his responsibility) the money is going to his ex wife, who is just this week off to Portugal with her live in lover and not taking her daughter with her. The only holiday his daughter gets is when she is with us. £600 is more than adequate to pay for anything an almost 17 year old can need,...

I have had the same kind of experience, it is very frightening. You can sometimes hear noises like people talking in the room and once I even felt someone sit down on my bed. Yet apparently it's all a trick of the mind. The body and the mind are waking up at a different pace, when you sleep the body is paralysed to stop you acting out your dreams. Universal consciousness, God sustains everthing without God there is no existence. God is within us, around us, above us, below us, everything and everywhere, omnipotent! God is both nature and nurter, RNA, DNA, the energy in every cell in existence. God can't be explained by science, but science cannot exist without him because he is that intelligence that seeks itself.

I think our understanding of God is evolutionary in the fact that he allows us to discover him little by little, and as we discover more about God, we discover more about ourselves. Souls come from God, they are that divine spark of God that resides in man. When we are in a mortal body, we forget our true nature which is eternal. There are different types of Aliens. You could say someone living in this country illegally is an illegal Alien, and that person exists for the same reason you do. He evolved over millenia. If you mean do aliens from out of space exist, I don't know for sure, no one does, but if they do, they also exist for the same reason you do, conditions for life were right, and they evolved over time.

When you are feeling depressed, What do you do to let it all out? How do you get rid of it?
I get out into the sunshine and watch the world go by. The sun lifts your spirits makes you feel better and gives you a big boost of vitamin D. Try it and let me know if it works. Pills are a short term fix. The internet is ok - but do you really want to sit in the house all day chatting when there's a whole world out there waiting to be explored.

Which is the worst, put your unborn baby up for adoption, or have an abortion? What do you think?
I think abortion, how would you live with yourself years down the line when you have other children, you're financially settled and things are going smoothly for you. Wouldn't your mind go back to the baby you killed, wouldn't you feel guilty that, that child had not benefited from the good life you could have given it?

For people married more than 10 years, how has your relationship changed over the years? What would you change if you could?
In the beginning it's exciting with lots of highs and lows, laughter and tears. With time love mellows and becomes comfortable, you get to know each other's little ways and don't take offense so easily, you grow together, you take each other for granted, but then so you should. You belong to each other. I wouldn't change a thing, it's perfect as it is.

Smacking children- right or wrong?
Loaded question. I'd try everything else first, it doesn't seem right that an adult should use violence on a child. But..........when you've tried everything and your little terror shows signs of growing into a big terror. A short sharp smack on the legs might just stop them in their tracks and frighten them from repeating their naughtiness.

Does anybody here suffer from Generalised Anxiety Disorder and, if so, how do you keep it in check in order to function on a day-to-day basis?
I think we all do to a greater or lesser degree. I cope by taking a big breath and telling myself that at the end of the day, it doesn't matter too much if I say the wrong thing, do the wrong thing, talk too much or don't say enough. In the general scheme of things it's unimportant, no one really cares and even if they do comment, it will all be forgotten tomorrow or the day...

He gave me his address and I lost it, so couldn't get in touch with him. I've often wondered what life would have been like if I hadn't lost that address. e was so cute.

I keep on getting these weird stinging feelings in my chest near my heart - what should I do? I find that rubbing it helps?
See a doctor asap, make a list of any symptoms you have before you go to see him to make sure you don't miss anything. Anything unusual that you don't think is related should be listed. Do you get pins and needles, palpitations, numbness, pains in your jaw, face or neck. Anything different should be noted and related to your medical physician. And do it now.

If god is omniscient and omnipresent, he already knows who will go to heaven and who will go to hell. Isn't it a little unfair that he is just waiting for our ultimate end and there is nothing that anyone could do to change our fate?
With God there is no time. All time exists at once. We had already sinned at the dawn of creation, it's difficult to understand but with God time does not move backwards or forwards it just is. That is how Jesus was able to die for the sins of the world, for all our sins, for sins that in our limited understanding we hadn't yet committed. Because all of time exists in the here and...

We are mind, body, and spirit. (a trinity) To function well as a complete person, all three need to be nourished and cared for. Science is proving that we can heal the body by looking after the emotional and spiritual state of a person. ie, a person who is ill and prayed for tends to fare better than one that is not. I think we are both spirits inside bodies, and bodies with a spirit. During...

As Christians how can we condon the suffering caused throughout history for God's cause, ie. the inquisition.
I agree. No true Christian would condone any kind of violence. Jesus died so that we didn't have to suffer eternal damnation. His sacrifice was unconditional. He died for the sins of the world, so that all sin may be forgiven. The last words he spoke were of forgiveness. "Forgive them Father they know not what they do". He didn't say, "forgive only the...

Universal Salvation is the purpose of God. At 2 Peter 3:9 it says this: "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." Can you see what it is saying? "The Lord is...not willing that any should perish..." Read it for yourself.

Answer to:
Is salvation or damnation determined by God, or do we self judge?
If man is made in God's image, one would assume man had the same properties as God, much like a drop of water has the same properties as the river it came from. Hence, why would an independant God need to judge man, when man knows the secrets of his own heart, which is made in the image of the heart of God. Which begs another questions. If man is capable of good and evil, does the evil...

Where in the Bible does it say that we should confess our sins through a priest?
Jesus died for the sins of the world, so that all sin would be forgiven. He paid the price in full on the cross. All souls are on a journey back to God the father from whence they came. God knew us and our sin before we were even born into this world, in the bible it is written that God has counted every hair on our head, so deep is his love for us. God knows we are burdoned by sin, and it...
