Answer to:
If (there is a) God loves us why would he/she make us suffer ? Why would he make loved ones die and wars kill millions !
Who "makes us suffer", HannaH.?. And who makes war? We, human beings, give each other pain and cause each other suffering and pain. Yes, I know there are illnesses that are hard to explain, but, this world was not created as a "replica" of Heaven or whatever you conceive of a perfect world. It simply is what it is. I don't know why the world was created as it is, but, I do know that we...

Antitheists are always asking for proof there is no God. Can any one prove without a doubt (using facts) there is no God? Absolute proof.
No, of course not. Nor can the existence of God be "proven" scientifically. The "facts" presented by one can always be denied as irrelevant by another. It comes down in the end to individual belief and choice. "Proof" such as Paul and others have been given, individually, can always be called delusions by others.
Answer to:
Is it true that many of our military families are living below the poverty level?
Yes, if you take the salary of the people alone. They do have other benefits, however, that are part of the their contract, such as free medical for all family members and housing allowance for married personnel with families. Basic furnishings, like beddings, dishes and cookware can be "checked out" and used for as long as needed without fee. Basic items such as food are much cheaper at...

In Islam, was Jesus put on the cross but Allah took him away before he died. He was not technically 'crucified'. Who was put on the cross?
Islam is "mistaken" in this. It was certainly Jesus who was crucified. And he endured it to the end. His last spoken words, "It is finished", indicates this. The spear in the heart by the Roman soldier was simply to ascertain death, as the bodies had to be removed before the beginning of the Jewish Passover. It is clear that Jesus was already dead, however. There are stories of people...

It is difficult, TINKERBELLE, I don't know why some people go into the health care professions. Many do not belong there. I suppose it is much the same question as why some people go into teaching...when they obviously do not belong there. I don't know what the answer is. There is such a demand for people in the field now that perhaps the screening and supervision is becoming more lax....

Are you afraid of death? Presuming there is no afterlife, how are you not terrified?
Well, morethancurious, let me ask you this,..were you hurting before you were born? You weren't, were you? You have no memory of anything, pleasure or pain, before you entered this world, kicking and screaming. Being born was actually the most traumatic thing you ever experienced, probably. But, even that memory has been suppressed. We all are born in the same way, ...and we go out in more...

Both. Some of the most successful people had little or no real "nurture" growing up... But they had something that drove them,..something from within. That 'something' cannot be defined exactly.

What is the definition of a right-hand ring?
It may or may not "mean" anything. We usually wear our school class rings on our right hand. I have an Air Force service ring that I also wear on my right ring finger, but not all the time. The ancient Romans wore a "signet ring" on their right hand. They used it to 'stamp' their name and approval for documents, letters, etc. It was recognized everywhere and was the same as a signature.

when will the Jesus Christ will returns as we have been waiting for 2000 years?
No one knows. "When will these things come to pass, Lord?" "Only the Father knows". Jesus was not "omniscient" when he was among us as a man. He was given knowledge when He needed it. That is why I look askance at anyone who say they know when the "time" will come. If Jesus did not know, then neither does anyone else. He simply told us to live every day as if it were coming soon. That...

Jonas is the Latinized form of the Hebrew 'Jonah', which means 'dove' (the bird, not diving into the sea, smile). The story of the prophet Jonah is pretty well known. Hard to say. The Aztecs would probably have expanded their power all over the area and continued their enslavement of other tribes, using them as human sacrifices to their gods, several every day and 364 on the New Year "celebration". The blood stains can still be seen in the steps of one of their temples. And a few hundred Spanish "knights" could never have conquered the Aztec empire. The...

It is about celebrating the birth of Jesus for Christians. As we do not know exactly when or on what day he was born, we were given December 25 as a day to celebrate "Christ's Mass". The early church chose this day to counter-act the winter solstice celebration, "Yuletide" among the Germanic peoples, and the "Saturnalia" among the Romans and Romanized people of ancient Europe. That is why...

Should Religious Leaders Be Able to Endorse Political Candidates?
Religious leaders or "spokespersons" certainly have no less right to publicly endorse a candidate for public office than any other spokesperson for any tax exempt organization or lobby group (which are legion). Saying they cannot would mean that religious people are second class citizens, but members of PACs are full citizens...with freedom of speech, assembly, lobby, etc.

Christians, does this make sense? God has the power of creation & made us in it's image. Woman also have the power of creation, therefore God is a woman & it should be women who control the church not men.
Women "bear" children. They do not "create" them in the sense that God creates. At any rate, we don't "inherit" our immortal souls from our parents. That comes from God. And many women are in leadership roles in many churches. However, it is a misjudgement to think that being in a priestly or leadership role is being in a "controlling" position. The pastors, priests, bishops, whatever...

In the past when literacy rates and educational standards in the general population were low I could understand that there was a need for the Bible to be read out loud. But what is the point of having Pastors / Priests / Vicars etc in these modern times?
All churches have the basic system of heirarchy, i.e., officials who oversee the organization, perform the ordinances, etc. And "reading" not necessarily mean understanding. So, there must always be teachers in the church. True, a well-read individual can have their own interpretation of certain scriptue, but most protestant churches allow for this, provided it does not contradict the...

If i comes before e except after c, then is science spelled wrong?
(lol) All rules of spelling have exceptions. This is one of them. It has to do with the etymology of the word. 'Science' comes from the Latin and was pronounced differently than we pronounce it. It would have been pronounced 'Ski-ens', meaning 'knowledge', with a "hard C". There are some other words in English that are from Latin and Greek that do not conform to the general rule of spelling.

We were always close, even as kids. Our parents made sure we respected each other. They did not allow bullying or teasing. Oh, there was some teasing, but it was "fun stuff". I was the...

I have never had an issue with someone else's religion or who someone chooses to love, have you? Why do some people care?
Nope. Never have. Any religious faith deserves respect, unless it tells you to hate someone else. That is my cue that it is a bogus faith. If it does not recognize a loving God, it is bogus.

Not sure we are. When I was in the military in the Far East, we were certainly sought after by many local women. I suppose they thought all American men were rich, even enlisted pfc.'s and airmen 2cd class. (lol) They were mistaken, but we did not discourage their delusion....
Answer to:
Why is the USA such a staunch ally of Israel? (opinions welcome)
It is complicated and goes way back. It is both sympathy for the survivors of the holocaust after WWII and the fact that Americans are sympathetic to the only true democracy in the Mid East. The concept of the State of Israel made sense after WWII. It was hoped it would also bring a stabilization in Palestine, where there had never been a real peace. Britain had Palestine as a...

What questions do you have about climate change?
I am curious as to why all the focus seems to be on environmental matters and less attention is given to the natural cycles which we know are constant from historical records. They occur in about three hundred year cycles. It is foolish to ascribe all climate change to human influence. We are puny little actors here. I don't deny some human influence, but I believe it is much...

What does this mean?? "slower onset latency"
I believe it is a term in psychology. In Freudian theory, children enter a sexual "latency" period, where they are not interested in things sexual, but are interested mostly in discovering the world around them and have great curiosity and are involved in physical activity and sports and games. Freud considered this vital to childhood development. A "slower onset latency"...

Immaculate conceptions (sexless) do indeed appear in many religions. The Christian tradition of Mary's immaculate conception was very late in coming into Christian belief, and it is only the Catholic Church that has it as a "doctrine". In fact, the "virgin birth" of Jesus was also a later doctrine. It was not a part of the early church's doctrine. It is obvious...

Why do US liberals want government health care?
They are programmed to think that the government should take care of everyone...in all aspects of their lives. They may have had parents that babied and protected them from everything. Their dads probably did not teach them how to fight and defend themselves against bullies. They probably went to the school principal or teacher and demanded that they protect their baby from any conflicts....

Why are aliens blamed when a rancher finds cattle mutilated?
Are they? I think that was a passing fad and accusation back in the eighties and some of the nineties. The cattle mutilations were sort of a creepy thing that has pretty much died out. Many of the "culprits" in my area were nailed by the ranchers...and by the law. They were definitely not "aliens". A lot of "crop designers" were also caught.

Of course not. People will always find reasons to hate each other or want to rip each other off. It has been so since time immemorial. People would be even grubbier than they are without religion and some belief in a moral law or higher power. The grubbiest among us will always use religion to justify their pet hatreds. That is not the fault of religion or those who truly believe.

Not necessarily a problem, Doctor D. A lot depends on the breed and the lineage. Inbreeding is sometimes done intentionally by kennels, but it is a very selective decision, and these are professional breeders (at least in the best kennels). Should the government decide how welfare recipients should use their money?
To an extent, yes. When you are getting support from the government, you are not in the same category as those who make their own. Social Services check all the time to see if children of welfare recipients are getting what they need. And they certainly should. Food stamps can only be used to buy food, not alcohol or tobacco. That is a form of control, but it is certainly logical.

Would the animal kingdom survive if they lost their instinction?
No. Animals are programmed to behave in certain ways and triggered by seasonal changes. Without these, they could not survive. Birds would lose their migration instincts and patterns. Hibernating mammals would not know what to do when winter came. It is not known how much "cogitation" animals have, but it is certainly small. It is their instincts that govern their behavior.

No, certainly not in city limits. They have these electronic things now. On the interstate, I may "go with the flow". Everybody speeds a little on the four and six laners. The fuzz does not enforce the limit strictly. They are just happy to see the traffic flowing smoothly. And even they know the limit is set too low.

Has anyone seen a 3-D movie that looked really good?
Not really. I used to see a lot of them when I was a kid, but the 3-D effects were very few. They were usually cheap movies, westerns mostly. It was a fad that died out. A lot of things could be done with 3-D that could be great today. I think we may see some good stuff with it soon. Can you imagine Star Wars in 3-D? Wow!

How widely is the winter solstice celebrated?
Very widely. It was 'Yuletide' among the old pagan Anglo-Saxons and Scandinavians, 'Weinachten' among other Germanic tribes, and the Saturnalia of the ancient Romans and other Italian people. A little basic human and agricultural geography is good to know. Look at where cattle and sheep are raised throughout the world, and look at the climate. Yes, some grain growing areas overlap with livestock grazing land, but the type of soil and the moisture and the altitude is paramount....

What causes old people smell? (And don't say poor hygiene!)
Many probably don't use a body wash or deoderant like others. It doesen't mean they are not "clean". And the body's pheromones change. Young people produce more attractant pheromones,..which are perceived as "nice" by others. Young people may not really be very "clean", though. You can't always trust the nose....

As Nature is imperfect. Shouldn’t all crops be genetically produced. Discuss.
Crops ARE genetically produced, Black Knight. It is called "selective growing". It does not require "genetic engineering". Crops (and animals) have been selectively grown and bred since humans began growing their own crops and domesticating animals instead of "hunting and gathering". It began some twelve thousand years ago. Do you think any vegetable, grain,...

Oh, yeah, it is still done. Many church groups go around caroling in my town. I have gone on some caroling "expeditions". It is fun. Many come out and clap for more....Some turn off their porch light and don't come out. Bah! Humbug! You have to be able to take rejection with a smile.

I had a great childhood. 'Idyllic', really. I was just lucky. Both parents were professional people, not 'rich', but no problems with having the necessities. Yes, it is a sign that winter is coming. The bugs and creepy crawlies are trying to find a warm place to hibernate. It is the same everywhere, Shirou,...and nothing new. There were animal treatment laws on the books in film at the time (not that long ago). They did it the same way they filmed horses tumbling to death in cavalry and indian battles in even the cheap westerns. Animals, especially dogs, are trained to "fall and play dead" on cue. It is just a matter of speeding up the film at a certain frame or two to make it appear sudden.

To me they are not enemies,...but many others, sadly, perceive them to be, i.e., those who deny any truth to the old scriptures...and those who think science, and particularly the theory of "evolution", denies God. Both are wrong.

It was originally Armistice Day in the U.S. as well, Greekgod. It was changed to Veterans Day to honor all veterans of all wars. I don't know about the "minute of silence" at 11:00 a.m. here, but we do have many celebrations and "solemn moments" on the day.

Why do people traditionally name their vote as opposed to other vehicles?
You mean their 'boat', right? Well, it is an old tradition...going back to the old sailing ship days. The ship took on a personality of its own to the crew. We know the ancient Mycenaean's named their ships from the epic of the Argosy. Jason's ship was the "Argo".

Its a pleasure to ride a Motorcycle all out in the open? Helmets do interfere with the enjoyment of the activity! Why Can't we cancel the law that makes wearing of helmets by motorcyclists compulsory?
Enforced wearing of helmets has decreased the deaths in accidents of many motorcyclists in the U.S., Suby. On the downside, it has reduced the number of available cadavers for medical schools,..which has led to increased advertisement for leaving your body to science. You can even indicate it on your driver's license. Young, previously healthy, cadavers are preferred by med schools.

Whare lies the origin of the new word 'Prostiboots'? Do all prostitutes wear boots to hide their skin up to their knees, feet upwards? Why do they and why should they?
I have heard it, but am not really sure, except that in the winter in northern cities, the prostitutes on the streets wear them, high topped boots that reach up to the thighs, though they still wear the short skirts. It could just be a thing for warmth in winter. These gals are out on the street in all kinds of weather. "A gal's gotta make a buck"...(smile).

Which were the happiest and most prosperous years in your life? (Mine were between 1991 - 1996)! Do you believe prosperity and happiness go hand in hand?
Mine were between 1992 and 1999. No, they are not identical, but they do tend to go together. And no, the prosperity had nothing to do with the Clinton administration. The company I worked for at the time closed and left the country while Clinton was still in office. In spite of our agreeing to forego regular semi-annual raises for a while, the company was taxed and regulated out of the U.S.

Why do men have an easier time not showing their feelings than women?
I am not sure we do. Men tend to deal with emotions differently than women, tending to internalize them more. I can tell pretty accurately how men in my family are feeling because I know them well. And it is culturally ingrained that men are supposed to be "strong and supportive" in time of sadness and grief.

There are no really "new" ones. Not in many millions of years. It would require the moving of a continent to a new location. Australia and Antarctica are still moving...but very slowly. Only a few inches a year.

First, NICK, YOU don't 'save' anybody. Understand that first. Don't take too much on yourself. Salvation comes from God. All you can do is let it be known what you believe. But, it should come in the right situation. You can turn people off very fast by being too up front and aggressive about "evangelizing". Don't feel you are being "scored" by...

Yes, and especially with the ridiculous cost of razor blades now. And they don't keep an edge worth a damn. My grandad's old straight razor that he sharpened with a strop probably gave a closer shave than any of them now. Swivel heads, three blades in one...(poof!). The meteor strike near Yucatan that many believe caused the extinction of the dinosaurs was not so great, really. It was not enough to cause a "wobble" in the earth's orbit. It certainly created a weather and climate change for a short time...but long enough to affect the dinosaurs' reproduction. This is why; the dinosaurs were both reptiles and "proto-avian"....

Doesn't it make you shake your head and sigh when you ask for an opinion and people give you a scientific definition? I just laugh at them.
Well, not if the question asks for a scientific answer.....Do you want an opinion about whether the string theory is valid in astro-physics or whether Carl Perkins was more influential than Elvis in early rock-a-billy? What kind of "opinion" do you want? Be sure you know you are asking before you criticize the answer.

Well, Lynn, we all have to go sometime. Some seem to go before their time...and others seem to be here for longer than they should,..but it is all a big mystery. Life does not always make sense to us. Neither does death. This is why some turn to religion...and others turn away from it.

When you feel overwhelmed by high tech gadgetry, how do you rebel against it?
Just avoid it as much as possible. I keep my life as simple as is reasonable. When I need to learn something really new, I call my nephew, the high tech expert. And he works cheap for me. A sixpack usually suits him. (lol) He remembers when I taught him how to fish...and drive a car. He thinks his old uncle is pretty ok.

How come so many elderly folk think that everything which doesn't come from their generation sucks?
Well, many have had a memory lapse or two. They tend to forget many of the bad things of their generation and get frustrated with many of the changes that they don't understand. High tech stuff is pretty much beyond many from the depression era. My granny got frustrated when the TVs got beyond turning the dial by hand to the three or four channels she had. I can understand. I will just go with my doc's statement...which is that it is very good, especially for my age (62). I am not a health fanatic but I do use good common sense, I think. I eat reasonably, with little high fat and cholesterol, but I do indulge myself on special occasions...as I think I have "earned it" (lol). Is political idealism the scourge of history?
No, I don't think so, per se. Some ideals are better than others...and some have succeeded better. Actually, I think the lack of true idealism has been more of a problem in history. Not all revolutionary movements are truly idealistic. Many have been based on pure desperation and chaos and the people being led by the nose.

Is this a new golden age for train travel?
In many parts of the world, yes. I only wish it were true in the U.S. There are a few great passenger trains, but our rail travel has fallen into unpopularity. It is really a great way to travel. I remember many cross-country trips in my childhood very fondly. I even made one alone at age twelve. It was thought the safest at the time. Probably true. The conductor sort of took me under...

Why can’t we make diamonds/rubies/opals?
We can make diamonds. They are called Zircons. They are used in industry, especially for drill bits and metal-cutting saws. They are also used in jewelry. much less expensive than "natural" diamonds, but indistinguishable except by a jeweler. Opals and rubies are a mixture of many complex minerals and next to impossible to duplicate.

If by "sweet and humble" you mean a man with no ego or sense of self and would only do your bidding all the time...yes, you are dreaming. And you would become bored with them very soon, no doubt. I think more women leave "nice, sweet guys" than leave macho men...especially if the "real men" make good money and are hot in the sack. Sorry, hon, at my age I am not...

Why do big companies set up in Delaware?
You mean as "headquarters"? Probably the less expensive office building rental costs, the generally lower cost of living, and the more family friendly neighborhoods for employees and execs alike. Through the media, weather alerts, and local government. The Gulf Coast was alerted to Katrina three weeks ahead of time. Nothing at all. If I enter a sovereign nation under illegal means and assume a false identity, I am an illegal immigrant. Every country in the world where I attempted this would classify me as that. They have great value alive, as a controller in the balance of the oceans' populations. They are also greatly prized dead, as there are many products from them that are very lucrative on the market. They can also overpopulate, as many other species can. There must be a balance, but it is difficult to determine at any given time. Marine biology is an important field of study.

Why do some people suffer from paranoia as they get older?
Mental lapses occur with age...and many elderly lose their ability to distinguish between "friend and foe". So many people are telling them they must do this and that, including family members. Answer to:
'The denser the population, the more aggressive the people are'. What do you think?
Not a universal truism. There are many densely populated cities/countries that are very "civilized" and polite in their relations. It depends on the culture..not the population density. In many sparsely populated areas the people can be most "unfriendly" and aggressive..."You ain't from around here, are you?...You..ahh..got business here 'bouts?"

They say 'Home is where the heart is'. How true is that for you?
Very true, for me. I spent most of my working life travelling. I have lived in many places, but I returned to my place of birth by choice. I will stay here. It is "home".

Whilst most muslim countries are modernizing and progressing, muslims who live in western countries live in the past . What do you think?
Yes, it is interesting, isn't it? Perhaps many feel they must "circle the wagons" when they live in western, non-Muslim countries in order to preserve their culture/religion. But, their combativeness with their adopted countries is confusing. One would think they would simply be happy to practice their religion in freedom...and in private. Also, there is the question of why...

Try to eat more seafood. I already eat a lot, but I would try my best. Maybe I would wear a T-shirt of some kind supporting it....
Answer to:
People sometimes refer to others as 'common'. What do you think is 'common'?
"Common" does not have a bad connotation with me. It can simply mean "down to earth, friendly, and without posturing". When some people use it, they really mean "vulgar", which has an entirely different meaning.

Why aren't we making better use of pharmacy?
Well, we do make pretty good use of it, but it could be much better. For one thing, the drug manufacturers are slow to take the requests and push for certain drugs (in the US) that are deemed most useful in certain cases by the CDC and the AMA. Their concern is potential cost and profit. They are supposed to be a part of the health industry, but are more concerned with the business aspects...

Answer to:
Does Iran have the technical knowhow to build a nuclear weapon?
No doubt, but on paper only as of now. They lack the materials and the means to build one. They are only now working on what they call their 'nuclear energy program', which they do not have, yet. I have no doubt they want a bomb, and they have been playing footsie with the Russians to get the means. We need to slap the Russians up aside their heads now and then to remind them that...

According to the bible, is gambling bad?
Only when you take the food and necessities from those you are responsible for. Or if it becomes addictive, which is actually a disease. I gamble a little myself, now and then,..when I think I have picked a really good horse. I even buy a lottery ticket now and then. I have also plugged a few game machines. But it is just an occasional game for me. I never gamble more than I would spend...

Should parents who spank their kids be charged with assault?
Should parents who do not discipline their kids be charged with neglect and fined/sued/jailed when their kid commits vandalism, assault on another child, or any crime? Yes! When parents start being held responsible for everything their kids do, from birth to age twenty-one, you may see some return to responsible parenting. You won't any other way. That has already become self-evident.

My boyfriend was in a car crash and how he is a vegetable for life is it wrong to move on i dont know what to do i still love him but i want to start my life just dont know how to let go and will the next guy tha comes along understand
This is a tragedy, but it does not have to create more tragedy and sorrow. You don't describe exactly what you mean by 'vegetable', but if it is what is generaally meant, no one could expect you to sacrifice your life for no return on it. I personally would never expect or want a loved one to do that for me, not even a spouse. And it is not as if you were his wife. You will...

Answer to:
Which sport has the most passionate fans?
Depends on the country/culture. In Britain and other countries it is probably soccer. In the US it is American football or baseball. Basketball has a big following in the US as well. It is regional, though. The Midwest is stronger for basketball than other regions. Ice hockey has its very strong fans in the northern states and Canada.

Have you ever given anyone an "either/or" choice? How did that work for you? Do you respond well to someone who says "either do this or that will happen"?
Well, ermm, yes. I have told someone to either do this job the way you were trained...or clock out. I have been given the same instructions before, myself. Pretty straight-forward stuff. We may not always agree with the policy or procedure, but we get paid for carrying it out. When we have been around long enough, the suggestions we make for change may or may not be listened to. But,...

Which You is most true? The one you show or the one you don't?
Depends on who I am "showing to". I show my real self to family and old friends. I am probably somebody else to most others. "The world is a stage and each will play many roles in their time"....or something like that.

What is it that makes us feel a lump in our throat when we cry?
...And also when we laugh long and helplessly...and when we get hiccups. It is the rapid and irregular forcing of air from the lungs through the windpipe...and the increased nitrogen content of the air (breath).

Answer to:
Why does it seem windier in a city?
It doesn't just seem so. It is so. Wind can gather velocity when it is deflected and concentrated as by large buildings in a city. The same is true in the mountains or in canyons. If you have ever lived in a two story house, you know what opening all the windows can do. You can feel the draft all over the house even if it is pretty calm outside.

Why is Norway in charge of the Nobel Peace Prize and not Sweden who handles the other five Nobel prizes?
It is unclear why Nobel gave the awarding of the Prize for Peace to Norway. It is perhaps because Norway had less of a militaristic history at the time than Sweden. Most of the Peace Prize winners have been highly debated by most, and those many feel should have won it were not even nominated. The nominations are a very closed affair. I think the whole thing is highly political and very...
