On this picture is a 1 GB HD from 1987, and a 1 GB SD card made 20 years later. What are the weights of both devices, & how many terabytes' worth of SD cards equal the same weight as the 1987 HD? Well, the 1987 drive is an IBM 3380J drive, and those things are HEAVY! (I know because I used to work with them.) I'd guess around 80-90 pounds. My guess for the SD card is about half an ounce. That means about 2560-2880 cards to equal the weight of the old drive, so about 2.5-3 terabytes.

My bag is full in the color black, and it says I have 4545 points left until level 54. I think somethings wrong? They changed the point system a couple of months ago. Those of us who didn't have enough points for our current level (ie, most of us) kept out level but were put into the "black bag" until we reached the new minimum for that level. The higher your level, the deeper into the black bag you were. Once you get back to the new minimum for level 54, your black bag will disappear...

An extraction is quick, but an open spot where a tooth was (especially a wisdom tooth) takes much longer to heal. IMHO, getting a wisdom tooth pulled is a worse experience overall.

I have just recently recieved bad news from Blank Savage's brother. Sadly it seems Blank was found dead in his barn yesterday. The autopsy said heart failure. I'll assume the items also have the same shape, because that can make a big difference. Currently, it's been mostly PHP and Javascript, with some Access, C++, and Korn shell scripts. I used to do a lot of COBOL, Assembler, and Fortran stuff. I've probably learned and used a couple dozen languiages total so far. The job situation is good. I'm a civil servant.

Does anyone else besides me think Hollywood is scraping the bottom of the barrel when new TV shows are based on commercials (Cavemen)? Heh, they've scraped the bottom of the barrel for so long that they've worn clear through. What we're seeing now is the dirt underneath the barrel.

There's nothing much you can do - the numbness will wear off when the circulation in your gums carries off enough of the stuff to let your nerves wake up. Pilot controls on a jet look very complex. If you learn how to 'fly' a jet with software on a PC, could you then fly a real jet without any other training? If you're talking about a game like Microsquish Flight Simulator, then no. There ARE software packages out there that come with special hardware; using these can count as simulator time in your logbook. But even that BY ITSELF won't let you fly a real jet.

Lasers can heat up (and possibly vaporize) the part of an object that they actually strike, but they won't make an entire object vanish like a phaser from Star Trek would. And even that takes too much power to make even a semi-portable device feasable at the present time. So so disintegrator guns yet. Too bad, too. It was as much a torture for us to listen to his lectures as it was for him to speak them.
