There's no reason the grandfather has to know about the relationship. If he already knows, you boyfriend should explain to him that he is not racist, and that love knows no boundries (color, gender, etc.)

Not really. Considering sad and happy are at different sides of the emotional spectrum it is impossible. However, it is possible to be other things that are somewhat simular. For instance, you can be happy about something but feel regret for doing it. You can be sad, but find comfert in knowing you will be happier soon, etc.

You can never effectivly get all of the germs off. You can boil the plates, etc, but as soon as you set them down they will pick up germs from the air. Just clean them well enough, and let your immune system worry about the rest.
