Which was bigger news Michael Jackson's death or September 11, 2001?
I do not find your question offensive, but I do find it flippant. So you must not be surprised if people react to it strongly, because 9/11 is still an open wound for some. It is a far more personal tragedy than the death of a pop star. So yes, it terms of just sheer newsworthiness, sept 11 is way on top.

I come from a family where there is a LOT of mom in law problems, though mine, thank God, is a sweetie.
Well, my sister in law was the most successful in tackling my dragon of an aunt. She used the path of silent resistance. She wouldnt flare up or argue with her MIL, just do her own thing, inspite of my aunt's opinions. You like blue towels and your mom in law buys pink? No problem - go...

What are the downs of being famous?
You are dehumanised! You are just a face in a magazine and a body in someone's fantasy. When you celebrate, there are people who are ready to claw you down. When you are down, people view you with self-satisfaction.
When you are famous, you are not allowed to be a person anymore. It's like selling your soul to the devil.

I built these walls around me and my boyfriend said that he doesnt know how much longer he can be in a relationship with someone who is pushing away. He said were not breaking up but doesnt know what he will do. What should I think about this?
You should try breaking those walls, or at least dislodging a few stones.
I think this guy is wonderful and persevering and in love with you - to be in a relationship where the other person is pushing away. So if you want a future with him - hammer away!

If you were invited to a friend's house for a picnic, should you bring a dish to share, even if told it wasn't necessary? If you go and don't bring anything, you look like a sponge. If you do, it like saying "You don't make enough, so I'm supplementing."
Two things - firstly if you are specifically told not to get anything - don't!
Secondly - no you wont look like a sponge! You didnt come uninvited! You were asked to come and asked not to get anything - it doesnt get any simpler than that!
If you simply cant come empty handed - get a house gift like flowers or a dvd

That would be any song which is my current favourite. I'm going to name a few Hindi favourites
Ae Ajnabi, from the movie Dil Se - which is about calling your love from wherever he or she is, because you are in pieces and incomplete. Its a haunting tune.
My current favourite is Teri Deewani by Kailash Kher, in his album Kailasa.

Why do people insist on answering questions that were asked a long time ago. Does anyone else think the questions should be deleted after a week?
Some questions solicit advice for some immediate problem, so yes, they becme dated after some time.
Some questions are congratulatory and so they don't matter after the event is over.
But some questions are timeless, or if not, still really interesting to answer or read.
So you cant measure all with the same yardstick. What i suggest is that people who post questions could have an...

Answer to:
My boss always favors girls he give them less work and made boy sit for longer hours but at the time of recommendation for increment he always praises girl in spite of girls what should we do
Complain to his superiors about the sexist discrimination. Most probably the boss favours girls because he wants to make a pass at them or wants them to like him.
Whatever it is your work place is not about equal opprtunities so you should either complain or leave.

Ok, many levels to this answer:

Therefore the play acts on many stereotypes prevalent at that time (and this as well!!!) especially that women who spoke their own mind and were not meek and submissive were 'shrews'.

Why do people most often associate the word "virgin" with a female?
Its because virginity has typically been valued in a female, not in males. According to those icky romances aka barbara cartland, virginity is the best gift you can give to your husband to be. However the hero is never a virgin- infact its better for men to lose it as soon as decently possible. Thats how i think many people traditionally looked at it
Its all to do with the double standards...

I purposely beat my son's boastful, little 9 year-old friend in an armwrestling match last weekend, to "teach him a lesson", but now he wants a re-match. I'm surprised and not sure what to do. What do you recommend?
Get a rematch. He might be boastful, but he has guts. And confidence. No mean thing in a child. So have a rematch, beat him again, but tell him that it was a toughie, and when he grows older, he'll be a champ. Just because he is boastful doesnt mean he is bad. He's just a kid.

My maiden name is smarter - it means the sun. My husband's last name means cotton. And my maiden name is synonymous with very noble families of Arabs. So aesthetically I like my maiden name better. But just having my husband's name behind mine gives me a warn fuzzy happiness...so I'm fine.

If you have a resume that is active on an employment website and your boss discovers this, would it be right for him to fire you?
You have every right to look for a job if you feel you are not happy at your present position, or even if you feel you could do better. So it is not right that you are fired for keeping your options open. However, your boss probably doesnt care about your rights very much - so you decide if the job is important enough for you.

Does giving too many rights to children take away adult and parental rights?
Excellent question. I think that children need a structured environment, and giving them too many rights might make them feel less secure. Apart from basic human rights, I think many rights are earned, and just giving them away makes children lose sight of their value. And it does take away adult rights - which are earned.

Great! Congratulations! I think being a grandparent is glorious and better than being a parent - you get to be the good guy and pamper them silly and tell them stories and be adored and just relive your childhood without having to be up at ungodly hours and change nappies ( unless you want to!) Misstarie - I think you are blessed and hope your grandchild feels that way about it as well.

Do you think that spying for your country is morally wrong?
Spying against your country is a capital offense - why? Because it is fundamentally wrong - its lying and cheating and theft all rolled into one - with the future of a country in balance. The fact that it is universal and it happens and that it is glorified and all that doesn't change these facts.
Answer to:
Will there ever be a time when people no longer write long hand? Will there be a time when children just learn to type and that is it?
It's very much a possibility. Already as a teacher, I see that good handwriting is not as important as it was before, because typing is given more importance. Also the beautiful cursive writing is dying a slow death, giving way to beautiful cursive fonts. Infact, a student once showed me her hand- written notebook and asked me - Teacher, do you like my font?
So yes, educationwise we are...

Oh, plenty of times! I am rather absent minded, so leave without paying many times and the hapless waiter runs after me. I sometimes think they are more embarrased about it than i am, because (i sincerely hope)i look rather respectable, and not someone who would do such a thing deliberately.

What happens at a rakhi ritual?
Rakhi is a ritual that celebrates the bond shared by brothers and sisters. The brother comes to the sister, and she ties a fancy thread (rakhi) on his wrist, after putting a tilak ( made of red vermillion) on his forehead. He gives her a gift and promises to protect her. This is not just for siblings though. A girl or woman may tie this to any man, signifying that she looks at him as a brother.

Do you and your partner relate to and treat each the same whether with others or when you alone? Or is the "public" couple very different from the "private" couple?
Good question. Our private persona is completely different from our public persona. For starters, my husband never never calls me by my name in private. And we talk to each other in a silly kiddish way. In public he is a bit stand offish and high handed with me, which i found very difficult to digest in the beginning, but am ok with now, because thats the way he is.

Pride is what makes you believe that you have the right to be happy - even at the cost of someone else. Pride is what makes you do wicked things, just to prove a point to yourself.
Even the most snivelling, pathetic creature is proud enough to believe...

Would you rather have your brother going to war or your brother going to jail for twenty years?
War - I know that people might say there was a better way of him coming out alive from prison than war. And though the trauma is different, it's still trauma. But atleast he won't be sodomized in war ( I hope)
Am I really writing this?? It's so difficult to think of your brother going to any potentially dangerous situation!

Dear Clarry,
I seriously disagree with your question because it serves no useful purpose i can think of. Instead it leads to hate-mongoring and nation-based chauvinism, which is something we have enough of, as it is. That's the reason i am down-rating your question.

A very religious Christain nursemaid works for a Jewish family. One day she secretly takes the baby to church and has it baptised. The family doesnt know. OK? or Not Okay?
Not okay! And thats not a very 'religious'nursemaid, but a very fanatic one! And if she can do this behind the parents'back, what else is she capable of, in the name of religion or whatever else? Jews have a strict belief in kosher, how do they know if the nursemaid doesn't violate this? A baby is a trust, given to the maid, and the maid is violating it!

Yes it would - i would think of him/her as a critical, hard to please jerk. If he/she downrates spam only, then - do they go out especially looking for offensive answers? Some years ago there was a one night TV event called "Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire". It was like a Miss America Pageant of women willing to marry a rich man who was choosing the winner. Wasn't that one of the worst TV show concepts ever?

Why when I talk to people, they claim to watch little or no TV, yet ratings for CSI, Sopranos , American Idol, etc..are through the roof..Whose watching TV?
Firstly, its possible that the people who claim not to watch TV are watching anyway - just like peole who claim to read books dont really read them.
Secondly the WORLD is addicted to television, so yes, the majority is watching TV.
Thirdly ratings are calculated as a percentage of those who watch TV, so i guess, its all relative.

Give her a rose and a card..but not the diamond ring, unless you are proposing marriage - firstly if you give her the ring, she just might not accept such an expensive gift.Secondly, dont put her in an awkward position where she might have to explain the ring to her family members when things are not official. Why dont you go official first and then shower her with all the gifts in the world.

I think its perfectly fine that your friends want to visit you and your baby. The baby's father has missed out a week with his son - he should feel terrible about it, not you. You and your kid deserve the love and pampering you get from those who care...

Any horrid experiences with creepy crawlies?
When i was in india, once slept with the windows open ( the very last time - I swear!) I felt something bristly walking on my face - i just picked it up with my hands and discovered that it was a huge cockroach!

When I went to Sri Lanka - stayed in a lovely hotel called Grand Oriental, which was once an army barracks. Was very happy and satisfied with it, till i went to visit my cousins at Hilton - which was breathtaking.
