Answer to:
Why do politicians take on a persona that in reality does not exist?
They do this because they are courting. Just like when you were trying to woo your spouse, you put on a different persona to try to win the other person over. Only after you 'got' em, did the real you show through. You court a lady, they court a vote. Same thing really.
Answer to:
How do you like the new AB?
I am not a fan yet. I don't care for the new 'activity' - I prefer the old version much more. I miss that stupid glorious big blue button. You know?
Answer to:
What do you think is the most underrated/undervalued subject of learning?
MONEY! Nobody today seems to have any idea of what money is. Where it comes from, what it's implications are?! We are totally clueless about something each and every one of us uses.

Answer to:
Should we rethink our relationship with money?
Yes. Money is not the same as wealth. Research what 'money' actually is, I guarantee it will surprise you. In today's world money=debt. If all debts in the US were paid in full, there would be no paper money in circulation, and the Federal Government would owe the Federal Reserve billions of dollars in interest! Wrap your head around that one.

Why does it seem like when one wants to help people on a smaller scale, they're a saint, but even suggesting helping people on a larger scale makes you a socialist or communist lol?
Well, I think your definition of 'help' is an important one to make. If by help you mean to keep people free from oppression, then by all means this is what the republic was founded upon. If, however, you mean help in the sense that it will make something free TO someone, then this is not help in my opinion. This is oppression in that it takes ones wages away from someone else. I...

Forgive me, but a gift certificate is the worst possible gift for your mother. It shows absolutely no thought went into it. The large ones will soon and here's why: People don't really care what happens outside a certain parameter from their homes. Local newspapers usually focus on the state or metropolitan area. What exactly is so wrong with competition? Having pharmaceutical companies compete...insurance companies compete..businesses compete..benefits the consumer, does it not?
That's exactly right. Competition lowers prices, and promotes efficiency with profit being the reward. Letting companies fail is just as important to a healthy economy as prospering ones. That's the 'invisible hand' that Adam Smith was talking about. Deeming a company 'too big to fail' is a colossal mistake.

What would be a good alternative to using money? And if there isn't an alternative, how do we get out of a profit driven system?
Well a good alternative to using fiat (or government mandated) money would be to use what The United States was founded upon, the Constitution states that only gold and silver shall be used as legal tender. We left the gold standard completely in 1971. I would argue that nothing but gold and silver IS money. Therefore a currency backed by gold or silver, to me, would be the only alternative.

What are your comfort/discomfort zones re: doing things socially by yourself vs with others? (For ex: see a movie, eat in a restaurant, walk in the park, see a play or concert, go to a museum, see a ball game, etc)
I hate shopping with anyone else, I need to do that by myself. Bars are no fun alone, need company for that. Restaurants I can eat by myself or with company, except on a date I usually don't eat as much, then chow down when I get home. Movies I like to go with others, but I used to go by myself when I had a goofy night schedule. Walk in the park is a toss up. I would prefer to do that...

You could buy some silver coins. They are really neat to have. And if you ever get bored with them or need the money, you can always sell them, they should retain their value :)
Here's a cool one you could afford :)

Find the nearest coin, flip it. Heads or tails? I want to see if it's really equal.
First of all - It won't be equal. If you flip a coin a million times the chances that it will be 500k to 500k are astronomically slim. It might not even be close. There will be gigantic swings in each direction. Sorry, I'm a statistics dork. Anyway - mine was heads :)

I work in a casino and yes - I have seen it so many times that I am a believer - I think the fact that they don't know what they are doing (for the most part) and the fact that they can happily leave a winner make a huge difference - after you become a full blown gambler its a lot harder to leave after a small win :) What were you playing??

At my old house there were two bedrooms downstairs. The funny part was there was a bathroom between the two rooms that was not otherwise accessible. In the movie Bennie and Joone, she asks if he is having a "Boo Radley" moment. What exactly is a Boo Radley moment?
Boo Radley was a character in "To kill a mockingbird" - he was a recluse, a shy and quiet man that the townspeople liked to gossip about because he was such a shut in. So, a Boo Radley moment is when you are isolated and shut off from the world, at least that would be my guess :)

Are newspapers in the process of going extinct? The LA Times and The Chicago Tribune just filed for bankruptsy. Is this because people are getting the news online in real time instead of reading the newspaper?
That probably has some effect, but more likely its from the loss of advertisers. That is how a company makes money, so if they go to cheaper mediums then the company will suffer. Also, think about the classifieds - now anyone can list something for free on Craigslist - why would you want to pay $50 for the exact same service, with less overall views? Those two reasons would be my guess.

Why is bread expensive now? In the past other things cost more like jam and spread but bread was allways dirt cheap. A few years ago it was 18p a loaf in netto. Now saisbury's basic bread is 50p a loaf and most loaves cost more than a pound?
This is called inflation - the result of an increase in the money supply. Watch the excellent video titled 'Money as debt'

Although the light shone bright in some places,
Blackness still filled the quieted spaces.
Carts of books sat stale with dust,
Dates and times, to the books, like rust.
Easing up the spiral stairs,
Fog white beard and long gray hairs.
Grappling towards his favorite nook,
Heaving down, his cherished book.
Instantly knowing, his thumb to page,
Jostling sheets, in his paper cage.

If I would want to live in another country for a year or two and then move back home to the US, what would the requirements be to make the move to that country?
I have been considering this very hard as of late.
My first priority was a country in which I could speak English. This narrows it down considerably....Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Ireland, the UK....
Second, is a country with a sound economy. Somewhere that actually produces stuff instead of the US's phony service economy.
Third, I wanted somewhere beautiful, with lots...

If the wacky world of physics in cartoons became real in our daily lives, what would be some things we would be able to see or do?
Every fight would be a rolling dust cloud with random fists and feet sticking out.
Getting shot would only require a headband and a crutch.
Sticking your finger in the end of a gun would cause it to backfire.
You could run over the horizon (over a series of hills) in about 5 seconds flat.
You could (and would) get struck by lightning every single time it rained.

I can see how living in the New York area or Los Angeles might make someone a bit more perceptive. I live in Minneapolis, and I rarely think about terrorist attacks. To me, a terrorist is someone who generates fear. Henry Paulson and Ben Bernanke do that to me every day. They are the ones I worry about.

A lot really.
I want to be a better person very badly, but it's not a one day fix. It's something that I need to work on each day, no matter my mood. Answer to:
Whats the stupidest/funniest prank call you have recieved or given?
We had some good ones in college, my favorite was the hose snake. We would take a bicycle inner tube, cut it, and tie off one end. Then we would fill it up with water, lug it over our shoulders, put the open end under someones door, and watch the snake uncoil. We were so mean.

This is what I've been questioning lately. I'm reminded of the scene in Good Will hunting when they are talking about honorable professions. Well, my profession is a poker dealer. Does that have any honor?

Why am I so mean sometimes?
I too get very mean from time to time. I have the ability to say truly terrible things. Why?
Perhaps I'm not wired correctly, or maybe I saw too many violent programs on tv as a child. But the truth is that, for the most part, I tend to let things go, and go, and then one day, after it's been building for a long time...I just explode.
So, maybe we should be having a lot...

The words "yes" and "no" do not exist in Mandarin Chinese and the word, "privacy" does not exist in Russian. Do you know of any other examples like this, languages that do not contain what we would consider in English, commonplace words?
There is no word for 'you're welcome' in Lao. You just say thank you back.
This doesn't exactly qualify, but in Cambodian, the number system is base 5. It is one of the only countries in the world that doesn't use base 10. So, the number 6 is like our 11 - it starts the new set. It makes it really hard to learn how to count in that language.

What's the worst mental torture you've ever endured? (... If you feel you can talk about it)
This might sound untrue, but I was a professional poker player for a while. It is not so much to win, winning and dealing with the money is the easier than one would expect. Losing however is brutal. I ended up making more than I started with, but the ups and downs of it were very taxing on my mental state. There were days when I literally wanted to smash my laptop and throw it out the...

How much money would you be willing to pay for a book?
The most I ever paid for a book was for an art reference book called Davenports. I think it was about $200, but they are totally sought after, I would expect I could still get over $125 for it. I'm not selling it however, I use it to find good deals on listed artists at estate sales.

Have you tried Pho? That is Vietnamese, it's really really good. It's beef noodle soup, just make sure to get the Tai Bo Vien variety - you don't want tripe and tendon, believe me.
I liked Korean bulgogi, it is amazing, but it comes with these little side dishes of pickled vegetables, eesh, never again.

Is the financial crisis as scary and dire as the media is predicting?
The problem isn't the frozen credit markets or anything else. The problem is how our economy has been running for the last few years. If the bailout was what was needed then why are the world banks faltering and stocks still taking a dive?
The stock market was going to plummet no matter if the bailout was passed or not. All the bailout did was kick the county's problems down the road, leaving a gigantic mess for the next President and the next generation. The government is trying to prop up the market, this cannot be done. The government is meddling with an extremely complicated machine - the market. Their meddling will...

What is a short sale?
When buying stocks it means to borrow a certain amount of shares (say 100) of a company at at price (say $100) - you are expecting the stock price to go lower. You sell your shares immediately ($10,000) - Now the stock goes lower, to let's say $80. You buy the 100 shares you owe your broker ($8000) and earn the difference. You just made $2000, only problem is if the stock price goes up,...

Without naming names, who would you consider narrow-minded on Answerbag? (Descriptors may work as long as their anonymity is protected. If you decide to name names anyway, then that is at your own peril.)
Someone who continually asks questions, pointless, mind numbingly stupid questions, just to make the most inquisitive each week.

I am an amateur poet and I gave my ex boyfriend a poem before we broke up, and when I talked to him he made fun of it and mocked it. I feel really hurt. What do you think?
That's a really awful thing of him to do. I remember I made something, a drawing I think, for my Dad for Christmas one year. I spent a super long time on it, and spent money on a frame and gave to him for Christmas. I was really happy when I gave it to him, I thought he really liked it. But, later that week I found it in the back of the junk section of a closet. I was really hurt and...

How far away are we from a one world bank and currency, and would it help?
This is a really scary question.
I sincerely hope we are very very far from a one world bank. Think of this, did you know that every paper currency in the history of the world has failed? So, if the dollar tanks, and we set up a new currency with Mexico and Canada (the amero) I think that leads us down that horrible path. A one world bank, would lend itself to a one world government -...

Answer to:
I you were going to do a one time heist, a bank robbery, do you think you could pull it off w/o getting caught or harming anybody?
Of course.
I would walk into a bank branch inside of a supermarket with a baseball hat. I would be pleasant, wait my turn, and hand the teller a small bag and a note saying "This is a robbery, I have a gun, empty the drawer, no dyepacks" - once my small bag was full, I would calmly walk out, get in my car and drive away.
Btw - I wouldn't have a gun.

Answer to:
Do you think American economy will collapse?
Before the economy collapses, first the currency has to be destroyed. We are doing everything to destroy our currency right now. The end of an empire always comes after the destruction of the currency. The dollar is losing value, and the only thing the Federal Reserve can do about it is to print more and more money - this is inflation - an increase of the money supply - and that further...

Answer to:
Well, Bush's bail-out was voted down by Congress. Is this good or bad?
I believe it to be a good thing. Although I believe all the attention that media has given this fiasco, the House and Senate will eventually pass the bill.
The recession is the fix, our economy is built on a rotten foundation, are we to believe that borrowing more money will fix this? All that will do is prolong the recession, and make it much worse, possibly even collapsing the dollar.

Which of the following would NOT result in a Doppler shift? A. moving listener, stationary sound source B. stationary listener, stationary sound source C. stationary listener, moving sound source D. slowly moving sound source, rapidly moving listener E. A
B is the correct answer - Think of a fire truck going past you, when it's approaching, the sound gets higher and higher in pitch, but once it moves past you the pitch becomes lower and lower. That's the Doppler effect, so if you are stationary, and the sound source is too, no Doppler effect :)

Who here is not voting democrat or republican in the 2008 election? If not, which party (or independent) are you voting for if you're voting at all?
Personally, I believe Obama and McCain to be one and the same. Neither has any clue on how to fix the turmoil the economy is in. I actually feel sorry for whoever is elected because they will be remembered for the financial mess we about to walk into. The only candidate I would vote for is Ron Paul, or whoever he decided to support :)

Should I pull all my money out of the bank and hide it between my mattress, assuming the worst is going to happen with this economic crisis?
Binary J is absolutely correct!
The Federal Reserve isn't taking the $700 Billion dollars from the tax payers, it's printing/creating the money out of thin air. The value of your dollars is disintegrating. As more and more dollars are put into circulation, the vaule of each one becomes less. It's like adding water to orange juice, as you add more and more water, the...

Where are the hundreds of bilions of dollars that are being used to "bail out" all these financial institutions coming from?
Many people have incorrectly answered that the money comes from the tax payers - it doesn't - it comes straight out of thin air. The Federal Reserve is loaning out 700 billion that wasn't there yesterday - to do this, they just created 700 billion more dollars.
Originally - dollars were backed by gold so that there could only be so many. But nowadays, money is printed/created at...
