I speak the language well enough to get by in most situations. Sometimes technical issues can be a problem because I don't have the vocabulary. I'm fine with general conversation though. Yes, I have made the effort because I think it's important to be able to communicate.

Try the disc in a different DVD player - some older players won't play discs that have been burned on computers. If it plays on a different (newer) player the problem lies with your DVD player, not your software or discs.

It seems to me that there has always been a majority of uninteresting stuff, although perhaps the proportion has increased. There is certainly a lot less genuine discussion than was once the case, although that may be because alerts about comments don't appear nearly as quickly as they did.
