When playing DVDs on my PS2, the picture fades alternately from dark to light. What could be wrong?

Dark to light is common anti-pirating techniques. Do you have a recordable devise hooked up to your PS2 (a VCR or DVD recorder)? I've had DVDs play fine through a VCR, and then do the fade in/out/in only when I hit "record" on the VCR.

If you are using plain paper to print your pictures, that is most likely the problem. Inkjet photo paper is formulated to keep the colors from bleeding and looking grainy. If you are using inkjet photo paper, then perhaps stepping up to a photo printer will help.
