XP or Vista?
Vista is actually not much different then XP. The interface is a little bit different but it takes little time to get use to it.
The big problem with Vista right now is that major applications still don't fully support it. I would give it another 6 months before considering moving to Vista.

How to protect your website from hacker?
There are many things to consider.. of the top of my head:
Install firewalls such as ZyWall that will deal with DoS attacks. Add security to your website so only those directories that you need to have accessible are available with appropriate permissions. Don't let users run scripts from your website, upload files, etc..

Why does digital file storage hardware for example come in capacities of 128mb, 512mb etc. Why the seemingly random numbers (Why not 150, 500 etc.)?
While we like to work with the decimal system 10s, computers work in binary (0 or 1). In order to store say 4 numbers the possible combinations are:
00
01
10
11
If you wanted to store 5 numbers you have to add an extra bit
000
001
010
011
100
etc..
so by default you will always be to the power of 2
2^2=4
2^3=8
2^4=16
2^5=32
etc..
this why you'll always notice...

What is the role of an Application server in a 3-tier system
Different companies call 3-tier different things. I've heard it called when you have a database server, an application server and clients as 3 tiers (although that is not really 3 tiers).
Application server typically holds the logic code that talks to the database servers sometimes by way of a WebServer via EJB, ASP or whatever middle tear technology you use.

I have a cd changer mounted in my trunk. If I get a 800 watt subwoofer for my trunk, will my cds skip from all the vibration?
I think you'll be OK. Nowadays with the type of CD changers that are made you can flip them upside down and they don't skip. Also think of the abuse your car takes on the road with potholes and such. If it can handle some of the side roads, it should hande the vibration coming from the subwoofer.

I think the trend will continue that we are already seeing. We already have 'robots' - computers, cars, manufacturing equipment, all of which help us be more productive.
As productivity increases people will learn new skills, such as using computers, instead of adding numbers with a calculator or an abachus.

When starting a new job, is it typical to not be allowed to contribute to a 401k until 1 year of service? Or do they mean that they will not match until 1 yr service?
You can usually contribute right away, sometimes there is a short period of time to enroll. In terms of matching. I've worked in a company that match but you for each year you work you get 20% of the match. So after 5 years you get the full 100% of the amount that was matched.

It is genrally not the amount of time but the quality of time you spend with your wife and kids.
If you work hard supporting your family there is nothing wrong with that. But you should try to spend quality time with your family if your job requires you (and even if it doesn't) to work such long hours.

For the most part No. It is mostly marketing. Ask a dermatologiest (who doesn't have a tie to a drug company) if anything cures vericose veins. You can get a lot of nice machines for less then $2500 that will handle what you require as some of the folks here mentioned. The one thing that I would recomend is to go with 2 Gigs of memory. If you plan to run Vista at some point you will need it.

Depends on the level of the player.
If you see a player start to look at the chips he has versus you have before it is his turn to bet, it usually means he has a good hand and is going to bet. But watch out, some players do this intentionally to make you think they are going to bet.
Some players act confident when they bluff, leaning back in a chair and raising their arms over their...

If you have grandparents, aunts and uncles that are willing to babysit, by all means. In today's society however that seems to be less and less frequent. Maybe because in this day and age families live many miles away from each other it is difficult to find a babysitter willing to do it for free. Alas, supply and demand.

Use JDBC, most databases support JDBC access. Once you have a JDBC driver for the database you can write code fairly easily to run queries against that database. Each database has its own security built into it, so allowing access would be implemented depending on the security the database vendor has to offer, such as setting up Roles, Table access, etc..
