Citizens of countries other then the United States, what do you think of United States citizens in general?
As much as I am against generalizing and buying into stereotypes, I must admit I do have to work extra hard to keep myself in check when it comes to my thoughts about Americans. I know it is not right or fair, but certain things do spring automatically to mind when I think of Americans - fundamental Christians, intolerant, egotistical, ignorant of other cultures and places outside of the US......

How can I convince a sane person, that they're sane?
My friend pretends to be crazy, but her conscious effort shows sanity, though.
I think it depends on what she is doing to try to appear crazy. I think some irritating behaviours are due to people being socially clueless and/or self-absorbed, while other times the behaviour is indicative of an underlying issue.
Some people criticize people who cut themselves, saying they have no genuine interest in harming or killing themselves and that they are able to stop but continue...
Answer to:
Why are there so many silly movies/shows on tv? Is this a media's tactic to keep us blind from real truth?
I think this is true to a degree. Media, generally controlled by the upper echelon of society, is a powerful tool in influencing and shaping public beliefs and opinions. Fox news is a perfect example of ludicrous and fantastical reporting that serves an agenda (conservative agenda in this case) while keeping people ignorant to the facts.
I think the other reason for the poor quality of movies...

Is a difference between the Obama HATERS and the Bush HATERS is that the Obama HATERS HATE you if you don't HATE him?
I think that is true for some (a difference, not the only difference). I am not too impressed by Obama's presidency thus far, but think the rabid claims that he was not born in the US, is a Muslim, has been conspiring against America, etc... are absurd and have gotten out of control. Even when I do not actually share my views on the president himself, if I express my thoughts about the...

What't the best part of seeing someone else's point of view?
Seeing something from someone else's point of view helps to increase knowledge and awareness, but I think the best thing about this is what it says about a person's character. The ability and willingness to understand where someone else is coming from implies empathy, tolerance, an open mind, humility, and consideration.
I think its hard to rationalize the aversion so many people seem to...

I live in a town infamous as the "Bible Belt of Canada". In addition to the many fundamental Christians living here, there is a large Sikh population. Aside from the oldest Sikh Temple in Canada (is a heritage site), the was only one temple to serve the population's needs. When the Sikh community submitted...

Is Atheism a weak minded response to the overwhelming complexities of GOD as it attributes the universe to happenchance?
In my experience, most atheists have strong and inquiring minds. We value knowledge and seek to educate and inform ourselves using a diversity of sources. We like to think for ourselves and, though we maintain open minds, we will challenge and test what we are told rather than just blindly accept it.
I have yet to meet an atheist who attributes our world and our universe to happenchance. As...

It wasn't used as a regular punishment, but I was spanked from time to time as a chil, and am not the least bit violent or aggressive as an adult. I bear no ill will toward my parents for spanking me and do not think it had any lasting negative effects on me, but I'm not a proponent of this form of punishment. I don't believe children should be punished just for punishments sake. I realize...

Writing down what's on your mind can help. Journaling can help you sort through things that may be bothering you and, with your thoughts recorded, you can give yourself permission to take the night off from thinking about them without fear you may forget something important.

People have the right to share their beliefs and pass judgment on the lives of others based on their own religious beliefs, but orders derived from religious tenets should not hold any authority in society.
High and mighty types can be found in all faiths (including atheism). Some are so righteous, self-absorbed and close-minded to the world around them, and obstinate in their convictions,...

It would depend on the circumstances motivating thoughts of revenge and, if carried out, what the revenge would entail.

If a person only "believes" in God because he or she is frightened of going to Hell, does he or she really believe in God?
If her "belief" does not stem from faith or anything other than fear, I would say no. I am an atheist and have had people present me with various arguments for conversion. While I know there are some who antagonize and condemn Christianity (such people can be found within all faiths or non-faiths), these attacks have nothing to do with atheism and should only be attributed to the individuals in question. Same sex marriage is not "bad" in any sense. To deny couples this right due to their sexual orientation is a human rights violatoin. I am proud to live in a place that recognizes such a ban as discriminatory and unjust and allows same sex couples the same right to marriage as heterosexual couples. There are a few of us that prefer a nice, good, tame guy! I think there is different reasons for the bad boy appeal. For some it is the danger and excitement - like an adrenaline rush. I believe its due in part to group mentality fueled by propaganda. Can antidepressants inhibit a persons creative abilities?
They can, but this does not always happen. I have used these meds off and on for the last 15 years and tried a variety of different kinds and dosages before finding one that had minimal negative side effects for me. I had a lot of bad experiences with side effects including that feeling of total mind numbness. Celexa (citalopram) is the one I have found to work the best - fast acting with...

Why do so many people seem to think that transferring data from the Internet to a file that you save on your PC is the *only* thing that takes up bandwidth without realizing that surfing and streaming involve data transfer as well?
For myself (one of those people you referred to) it is due to computer illiteracy. As much as I enjoy using my computer, I don't have a forté, not to mention much interest, for all things technical. There are definately times when my lack of knowledge is the source of frustration and I have f#*&%ed up my computer more than once. I am thankful not everyone is like me when I...

After reading the bible I couldn't believe it was inspired by god, it seems to primitive and cruel, has anyone else had this experience?
I have! My friend's 5 year old daughter recently has gotten into religion after her grandma took her to church. She is a bit obsessed. I was reading her a bed time story - a children's Christian book of short stories, and was bloon away by the content. Condeming others who were not Christains, talking about attacks on them, vivid description of the hell non-believers and sinners...

Can you deal with brutal honesty?
Sometimes, but definately not always. It is sometimes necessary and is given with good intent which, though still difficult, can make it easier to take. Other times brutal honesty is just malicious and serves no purpose other than to hurt - I hate to let someone see me crumble if this was their intent, but it can be tough not to sometimes.

Why is homosexuality being embraced by society to the point where it's politically incorrect to say that it's wrong?
Because it is not wrong. To say it is would be more offensive than politically incorrect. It is not so much being embraced by society than society is finally starting to shed some of its prejudiced and misguided beliefs. Judgment and condemnation of others is wrong (surely the bible speaks to this), homosexuality is not.

You will not be alone. All of us who take the Lord's name in vain, work on the Sabbath, have been unfaithful, told a lie, treated our parents less than honourably, been envious of what another has, stolen a pack if gum, picked the superbowl over church, and so on and so on, will be right their with you. Even though I don't agree these type of shows are representative of the majority, I agree they can have influence on how people in other countries and cultures view Americans (or Canadians in my case) as a whole. Can you describe an example of a NON physically, mentally, sexually, or emotionally abusive, YET UNHEALTHY relationship between boyfriend and girlfriend?
Financial and verbal abuse make for an unhealthy relationship.

They live to fill others' needs and this is where they gain their confidence and self-esteem. In a relationship, they are constantly overwhelmed...

Hate often stems from ignorance. People who hate various groups (different ethnicites, religious groups homosexuals, etc...) are less likely to engage in individual thought and more likely to follow the crowd. When asked to provide an argument for their beliefs, they either have nothing to say, or spew misinformation, false stereotypes, and generalizations that have been fed to them by others.

Who taught women that it was okay for them to hit a man and get away with it?
I don't think this is the norm for women, but there definately is a double standard. Gender roles dictate that a "real man" should not be bothered when a woman hits them - the idea of the "weaker sex" showing physical aggression toward men can be seen as humourous, like a kitten trying to attack a lion. There is seldom an issue made of this because it is either viewed...

If she is an addict, she will find a way to turn that gift card into cash. From my experience, a hard core addict will figure out how to turn any gift into a source for drugs - sell it, pawn it, trade it. Know of any successful relationships created from online dating service? Or singles ads?
I know a couple of people who are happily married to people they met online. I think you have to use common sense and caution, but believe it can be a good way to meet people. Aside from not being able to guarantee pictures or physical descriptions are truthful, I don't see it being any different than meeting someone in bar, coffe shop, grocery store, etc... You still are taking a...

My shoulder's are not semetrical, my left shoulder is higher than my right and my right side is dominant. I dont know if this is an issue with my muscles or bones, but it effects how I use a barbell. Any suggestions on how I can get them inline?
I used to have this problem too. For me it was caused by bad posture and and from years of waitressing (carrying trays and plates in my dominant hand). I went to the chiropractor for help. The chiropractor was also able to recommend exercises to strengthen my back and straighten my posture.

Why is it that the majority of girls I meet in college are either nursing or psychology majors?
I think because career choice is still heavily infuenced by gender stereotypes. Nurturing professions such as counselling, teaching, heath care, etc... are still more often occupied by women.
Answer to:
Why do people suddenly become nicer in college? You always hear of high school students being cruel and disruptive...
Cliqués are not so prevalent in college. Less importance is placed on fitting in and conformity. People feel more free to show their true selves and are less afraid of what may be thought of them for associating with the "wrong" type of person.

I don't think so. I like kids but am not one of those people who fawns all over a newborn or wants to hold it. I have been known to "fake it" on occasion! I think a lot of babies need to grow into their looks. And don't get me started on the old man babies....

Should I thank people and reward them with points for answering my questions?
I think that is a personal choice. I like to acknowledge and give points to anyone who has taken the time to read an answer my questions. I also generally give points for a question I have answered - there was something about it that made me want to add my two cents and think it is worthy of getting points for this.

Have you ever taken a tag from a giving tree to purchase clothes or gifts for a child? Do you plan to do it this year?
Me and my best friend used to do that every year when we were in high school. Funny, as an adult in a better position to afford a bit extra, I do not. It is a good reminder - a tradition I should revive. Thanks for the reminder!

What do you think is more serious: sex at a young age or getting drunk at a young age?
That is hard to answer because both can have serious lasting consequences. Drinking at a young age can also result in sex. I think it would depend on how responsibly the young person engaging in the activity is. If they are taking all precautions to protect against pregnency and STD'd I would say drinking is more serious, particularly if drunk driving is involved. However, if drinking...

Are you willing to discuss publicly the flaws in your character?
I am. There is no point pretending I am without flaws and I find it somehow liberating to openly admit them and discuss them. It is also a good way to find people who share the same flaws or who have overcome similar flaws. It gives you the opportunity to find support and guidence from others and to offer the same in return.

I have a physocal friday and they're checking my urine and i smoked weed thursday so will it show up in my urine?
I am unsure by your question if the test is one day or 8 days after you smoked - obviously odds are better for you if it is 8 days. If you are only an occasional pot smoker, thc can remain in your system for approximately 3 to 10 days. If you smoke on a regular basis, you are in trouble. Even if you stopped smoking a week before the test, thc will most likely be detected. THC stays in a...

My daughter is about to marry her boyfriend who is from Russia and here on a work visa. Because he is living with 4 other roomates, also foreigners, he doesn't want her to move in with him but assures her he will find a home for them later. Red flag?
It could be. I would consider it along with other factors. How long is his visa valid? What are the rules and regulations when it expires (even if he is married to your daughter at the time). What work opportunities will be available to him if he stays in the country. How long has he and your daughter been together? Are things moving faster than you are comfortable with? How much do you...

Feelings change and fade in relationships. You may have once felt attraction to your current bf, but it is very normal to lose interest after some time. If you are no longer into him, chances are this will not change. It sucks to break up with someone (and to be broken up with), but prolonging it will not make it any easier. If you are to pursue your other interest, I would suggest you wait...

Yes. I think the highest temperature I've had was 104. That was after an 8 hour waitressing shift and the cold I thought I had turned out to be pneumonia (know I shouldn't have worked sick, but couldn't afford the no work, no pay sick leave). I had to do a hospital stint for that one.

Yes, you can get in trouble. Not only was it not your card, it was not even your friend's card. Even if the card was his aunt's, he would not have the authority to let you use it. It would be good to spend a good chunk of time where you had the chance to be the primary caregiver of a baby and get a true sense of what it entails. If he cheated on his last girlfriend with you, chances are he would have little problem treating you with the same disrespect. The unfortunate reality is that many unplanned pregnancies or pregnancies planned without a lot of thought, do not result in a happy family. He is probably...

This is on a dating site: What would your opinion of a guy be if he says he's only looking for "serious relationships" then he asks for a photo of you topless after talking to him for weeks.. He said sorry but It still freaked me out.
That is pretty revealing of the guys true character - way out of line. Once a picture is put online, you lose all control over who sees it and what it is used for. If he is truly looking for a serious relationship with you, he should be on his best behaviour in these early stages and should be showing you nothing but respect.

Some people don't place much importance on being on time and are chronically late. I am irritated when a person is late without good reason and when it happens continually, I think it shows a lack of respect for the other person's time and, therefore, the other person. That does seem obessive. It sounds as though you are trying to hang onto a relationship that has already ended. You need to respect your ex's boundaries and allow for the space needed for you both to move on. If you continue to call, text, and show up uninvited to his home, you could be accused of harrassment. It can be difficult to let go of someone, especially if they initiated the...

If anyone tells you to stop touching them, including your girlfriend, you need to stop. It does not matter the situation or if you are excited. Stop means stop, no means no. I had an abortion over a month ago. Since then, I've been having few pains in my stomach. Now, the pain is more than before in my stomach, sides, and back. Should I be worried or is that normal?
I agree with the above answers. Any cramping or discomfort should be long gone. Complications following an abortion are not very common, but can happen. Your health is a priority and it is better to err on the side of caution. Get checked out by your doctor. Best of luck.

How can one handle a bipolar lover? How do you relate to someone who is bipolar and are they normally jekyll and hyde or what? do they turn on you and get worse the older they get? this one has tried 40 medications and they can't help. (2009-11-10)
It can be very hard when the one you love suffers from a mental illness, especially when medication has not brought them stability. Not only is it painful to watch your partner suffer, you are often on the receiving end of erratic, out of character, and somnetimes scary behaviour. Even when you know it the illness that has control, it can be hard to stay strong and not let behaviour that...

Ok have any of you had a friend whos house was sick before? (dirty dishes, smells bad, trash all over the place)?
My best friend in high school had a very disgusting house. The family did not have much money and 5 of them lived in a small trailor. It would have been hard to maintain simply due to lack of space, but her parents were also hoarders. There were piles upon piles of stuff everywhere. Her father was always between jobs and always had some new money making project on the go - dozens of...

Was your girlfriend an exotic dancer when you entered into the relationship? If she was, and there was no initial agreement that she would quit that line of work, I think its problematic you later asked her to quit. If this is not the case, I think it is reasonable for a partner to request their S/O to quit that type of job. Ultimately though, it was her choice to quit and you should not be...

Which should people depend on more for information, the internet or television?
I think it is important not to believe everything you see, hear, or read with both the internet and tv, but would say the internet is a better source for information. TV is dependent on gaining and keeping viewers and is owned and controlled mainly by the small percentage of society's elite - it tends to have an agenda and that makes it biased. The internet is also full of information...

My whole life it has been left up to the female of the house to clean the toilet!!! Why do females have to clean the toilet when we are NOT the ones that SPLATTER pee all over the place? I'm officially DONE cleaning the toilet in my house!
I took a similar stance once. Unfortunately my partner at the time did not have the same standards when it came to a clean toilet and the filth factor eventually wore me down! I think it would work better if there are 2 bathrooms, one being reserved for use by only yourself and guests!

There is this person I met a few times. I don't feel I can trust her but she is trying really hard to be my friend and friends of people I love. Rarely is my instinct wrong and I just feel something is not right about her. Should I ignore my instincts?
I think that instincts are usually based on something, even if it is the most subtle of red flags. At the very least, proceed cautiously with eyes open. It can be difficult when you are the only one that senses something is amiss - the people whose interests you care about may think badly of you because of your suspicions. If your gut instincts have proven to be valid in the past, I would not...

I have a friend who I really like her but she only sees me as her brother what should i do to tell her that I want her to know I love her what should I do or say?
If you confess your feeling to your friend and she has no romantic feelings for you, you run the risk of her feeling uncomfortable with you in the future. If you are unsure and think there may be a chance she is interested, I would ask her very casually if she would like to go out on a date (rather than as friends) sometime. If its a "no", then don't push it. Respect how she...

Can psychiatrists get compassion fatigue?
I work in the counselling field, and know that counselors, family support workers, youth workers, etc... often experience burnout. I think this is due partly to a combination of hearing clients' experiences and issues while trying to offer support and guidance, along with the burden of large caseloads that often result from a lack of funding for social services. I imagine psychiatrists...

A movie I loved and found very inspirational is Girl Fight (2000). It is about a girl from "the wrong side of the tracks" that takes up boxing. It is different than Million Dollar Baby! - the adult who who lets the child pick their meal even when it means the server waiting patiently at the table for 5 - 10 minutes in the middle of a rush
- adults who view the restaurant as a playground where their children can run free
- the customer who takes the time to explain why they do not believe in tipping

Sending you a virtual hug! Sorry your dad said that to you - it was an easy mistake to make and no insult was deserved (parents should never resort to name calling with their kids, childish behavior for an adult). I hate that word used as an insult - one of my pet peeves. Try not to take it to heart and have fun at the party.

It was nice of this person to help you through a tough time, but I believe trust is essential in any good friendship. Of course divorce is not an ideal situation for children, but I think it is far worse to raise them in an environment where there is fighting, resentment, and mistrust. Kids pick up on everything and even when adults try to maintain the peace in their presence, they are likely to be aware and effected by what is going on. Children also tend to model their future relationships after their...

I see nothing harmful or offensive about the billboard. It is neither condeming nor criticizing any religious group. Gay marriage should not be put up to referendum because the majority does not get to dictate whether or not a minority can have restricted freedoms. Don't you agree?
I agree 100%. The majority should not have the power to dictate the rights and freedoms of a minority group. A person`s rights and freedoms, when those rights and freedoms cause no harm or disadvantage to others, should never be dependent on a vote.

I think it is, but not if it happens continuously. It could be from hairballs or from eating too quickly. It could also be due to a change of food or worms. If it continues past a week, it is a good idea to take it to the vet. An infection or disease may be the cause of it vomiting.

If you have done nothing to warrant this mistrust, my guess is that she has experienced a cheating partner in the past and/or struggles with self-esteem issues. Situations like that make me cringe. I am glad you are being considerate of the girl's feelings even though you have been put in an awkward position. I would suggest one of 2 options. I am not sure how it would be in baking, but if you have excess that you don't want to waste, women's shelters and transition houses and food banks are often in need of baby food and formula for their clients. A local community services organization should be able to direct donations to someone in need.

I usually get free range eggs from local farms, but if I do purchase them from a grocery store I always buy free range. I have been on chicken farms and have seen the conditions layer chickens are kept in - crowded, noisy, dusty, and cages too small to allow for movement. I enjoy a good omelette, but would lose my appetite knowing inhumane treatment took place before the eggs reach my table!

I've had dreams like that too - its always disappointing when you wake up and realize it was only a dream! The feelings may be drawn from a past experience while awake, or just a natural reaction to what is occuring in...

Is it less traumatic to be raped by an ex-boyfriend or ex-husband than a total stranger?
No - rape is a traumatic experience regardless of who the rapist is in relation to their victim. Being raped is an extreme personal violation. Aside from the physical damage done, the victim has to deal with the ongoing emotional trauma that follows a rape. The feeling of losing control and power because of a rape is not lessened when the attacker was someone familar to the victim.

When do women (in general) start losing interest in sex? Is it right after the birth of her last child?
Menopause can cause a decrease in a woman's sex drive, though natural and hormonal treatments can help with this. Generally, menopause begins when a woman is in her late 40's - early 50's. It is said that women reach their sexual peak between 35 - 40 ( for men it is 18 - 22).

I recently moved into a new apartment and am feeling out of sorts. I feel I may never get used to it here, even had a full-blown panic attack when I felt particularly uncomfortable here. Any ideas on how to make this transition a bit easier?
Make it your own. Decorate and furnish with things that evoke positive feelings - soothing, happy, warm. I find colour and lighting is the best way to create a comforting peaceful environment. I like warm colours - reds, yellows, and oranges, rather than colder colours like blue and white. Candles and lamps can create a cozy atmosphere rather than using 1 or 2 bright overhead lights....

My boyfriend of almost 9 years use to be extremely social and happy. Now whenever we go out he is ALWAYS in a bad mood and very rude to my friends and people around us.I'm only 23 and I feel like he's taking me "down" with him. Any Suggestions?
Try to find out the reason(s) for his change in behaviour. If he has not already shared with you, chances are he may be reluctant to do so now - may be embarrassed, get defensive, or not know how to open up about what he is going through. Do your best to approach him in a way that lets him know that you want to support and help him rather than showing anger or frustration with his behaviour....

I am not sure if that is a sign, but some signs are weight loss or a pot bellied appearance, loss of appetite, dull fur, vomiting, amd diarrhea. It won't hurt your dog to give it a dewormer just in case. A lot of vets recommend this be done every few months as a preventative measure.

I don't think that is a black and white question. I do think that 1 to 2 months is not long enough to predict if you have in fact found "the one". This certainly seems to apply to some. Strange the sense of importance one can gain from being the bearer of bad news. Though not a human, I lost my Basset Hound a couple of years ago. A co-worker who knew the dog was family to me and just how devastated I was, called all other co-workers and left "oh my god, did you hear what happened to Susan's dog" messages. She showed no...

My boyfriends parents think that I dont talk to them and that I avoid them I dont try to im just a quiet and shy person i talk to them if they ask something Im not good at making conversation either, I dont want to come off snobby though what should I do?
I am introverted as well and have also experienced my shyness and quietness being mistaken as snobbery. I dread the "why are you so quiet" question - it makes me clam up more. I have worked on overcoming my shyness and am a bit more outgoing - it can be done but takes work. As difficult as it may be, it would be good to explain the reasons for your quiet nature to the parents....

I found Answerbag through that Stumble upon site - you enter your various interests and it takes you to random sites by clicking its icon in the toolbar. I am not an expert in anything really - my education and employment is counselling and working with at-risk populations, mainly women. I take an interest in more of the social and world issue type of questions. I enjoy the diversity of the...

Are you sick of seeing certain questions on AB? if so which ones?
Could I be pregnant.... Not to sound insensitive, but if you are having sex, particularly without protection, of course you could be. Educate yourself, be safe, and go to the doctor. Sex doesn't require a responsible participant, but this is ideal. Beyond telling you sex can lead to pregnancy, no one online can answer this question. Thanks for the venting opportunity!

I have 3 alarm clocks in my bedroom because I worry about sleeping in, and they are all set differently. 1 is set about 20 min fast, 1 is 10 min fast, and 1 is the proper time. I think the clocks that are fast will give me that "alright, I can sleep longer" feeling in the morning. No logic to this at all! The alarm clock set correctly is the "no more screwing around, get your...

How do you marry someone if you own more than them in assets and money, my friends all warn me that I should not marry or live witht he man I love but just see him, he is a really good decent easy going man.
It can be hard enough to find someone you love - good, decent, easy going all great qualities. Does it matter that you have make more money or have aquired more things? If the guy is opposed to work and his goal is to get you to support his slacker lifestyle, there would be a problem. If he works, contributes what he can, and you share similar values around money, I don't see a problem....

I believe both have their merits and downfalls. I know couples who are in very successful arranged marriages - love and respect each other, common values and goals, support each othr, etc.... I also know people that are miserable in their arranged marriage. The same applies to those who went the "traditional western" marriage route. I don't believe someone should be forced...

Not in any way. It is always so disheartening when a group of people are judged and condemed because of the actions of a few. Not only is this type of generalizing void of any logic, it can have enormous negative reprecussions for those unfairly labeled. Muslims are taught that violence and war are only acceptable under very specific and dire circumstances. A Muslim should only engage in...

Whenever possible, I think it is good to try to keep the peace with neighbours. Small disagreements or minor complaints can easily escalate into a larger battle that disrupts your life. I am a fan of Bored to Death - one of the best comedies of recent years, in my opinion. The actors are Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson, and Zach Galifianakis - Schwartzman is plays a writer turned unlicenced private detective after posting an ad on Craig's List. Yes!!! When I was around 12, I went through a "ride through" haunted house. I find racism an ignorant view to hold. When I have a conversation with someone around the beliefs they have of various races, I find they are very rarely able to back up their beliefs with any reason or logic (the rare occassion a person presents a thought out arguement, the logic supporting it is very skewed). I don't think any one country, including the US, should have absolute power to dictate laws and rules around nuclear weapons or anything else. There is no logic for this type of ethnocentric total control and the effects it would have on the world is a frightening thought. An organization such as the United Nations better protects the interests of all.

When is the right time to get involved? If an incident appears to have peril for one or more persons, is a crime in progress, or whatever you see just ignore it and go about your business? When would you make it your business?
Good question. I think the right time to get involved is when you believe harm is coming to someone (or something in the case of animals) either directly (assault) or indirectly (B&E). Involvement doesn't have to mean direct intervention if it means putting your own safety in jeopardy. A call to the police may be the better choice. A person should not hesitate to intervene in case...

In my opinion, you are far from ugly. Don't judge how attractive you are based on whether or not you look like the rest in "the herd". I am not a man, but do not believe being turned on by sexual violence toward women is common among men. Rape is not a sexual act. It is about power and control. Breaking things down makes me realize the fears are managable and I am not so overwhelmed. Things are not so scary when you feel in control. Once I am able to identify reasons for my fears I...

My friend who is a grad student spent 2,500 on a purse. What do you think about that?
I have a hard time spending $50 on a purse, and personally think that is crazy. Still, if it was her money, she has the right to spend it however she likes. If she hadn't borrowed the money for other purposes and the purchase wasn't made despite owing others money, she doesn't have to justify it. Wish I had that kind of cash when I was a student!

As my boy freind has cheated on me several times I can't trust him any more, and I always have a discussion with him whenever eg. his cell phone is engaged. what should I do?
He has given you no reason to trust him. I don't know the specifics of your situation , but it doesn't sound as though he is all that much interested in a monogamous relationship. You are still with him despite his actions, so there isn't much incentive for him to change. I am not a fan of clichès, but several times a cheater, always a cheater seems fitting. I know it...

You have obviously failed in training your woman. What kind of a man are you? You had better get control now before things get completely out of hand. I am sure your reputation has already been damaged, but could be redeemed by ensuring she knows her place (kitchen, laundry room, bedroom when beckoned)while you make a true commitment to your manly duties - drinking beer, frequenting strip...

I am a dog fanatic - always have and always will have them in my life. My dogs are my family and are always a priority. This said, I have always had a very negative opinion of pit bulls. Stealing money from her own paycheques? I assume bills are paid and there is food in the fridge if you are considering a shopping spree with found funds. The only thing I can see that your wife did wrong was to put her money in a place it could be so easily pilfered.

What makes a legitimate news outlet distinguishing it from news entertainment?
legitimate news outlets are a rare thing! to be legitimate, it must be unbiased, report facts with no agenda in mind, owners, stockholders, and funding sources should not be in a position to gain based on reaction to what is reported, perpectives, backgrounds, effected parties, etc..should all be included in the reported issue or topic and should be done so in a completely objective manner....

I can't say whether or not your life sucks, but don't think sexual experience, height, or skin condition should be a factor. Only having one sexual partner doesn't define who you are and things such as height and acne are out of your control. I am sure there is more sex to be had in your future and guarantee everyone is displeased with something about their physical appearance....

Not banned, but subject to regulations (though these are hard to enforce). I think a licence should be required to use them and they should be restricted to certain times of year such as halloween. Not sure where you are - I am in Canada. I did my degree in social work at university. Be cautious of some of the private type schools offering this type of training in a short period of time. They often cost a ridiculous amount of money and training is not recognized by social service organizations. Would you consider someone a quitter for getting a divorce?
Depends. Have they genuinely put the effort in to make things work? Is their partner willing to also put work into repairing the relationship? If abuse of any kind is an issue, then absolutely not. I think marriage is often entered into without enough thought put into the potential of its success. Still, no one should stay in a situation that holds no possibility for happiness.

My dog does this from time to time too - yuck. I clean my yard every couple of days and keep a close eye on my dogs when out for walks. I don't have kids, but remember a speaker discussing this topic at a pregnancy outreach program I worked at. She was not implying nudity is a shameful thing, but exposing children to nudity can be embarrassing and confusing to them. It can send conflicting messages to them around...

No, I have no issues with a person's sexual orientation. Why is kicking a man in the groin comedy in the movies but not punching a woman in the boobs?
Good question! A female being assualted is rarely viewed as humorous and there is no rational reason why this is different when a man is the victim. I suppose physical assaults of men are just more socially acceptable and fits with the gender stereotype of men. Its a terrible reason, but likely the reason nevertheless.

Each to their own, but I think 3 calls a day is a bit much. I can't see why he would need to call you if you are already on the phone that often. I am by no means an expert, but think too much contact in a relationship can lead to boredom and is often a sign of codependence. A life and friends apart from the relationship is healthy.

No. I had a spanking or two with no permanent damage done. I don`t agree with spanking, however. I think all that it does is scare a child and that is a terrible method of discipline that teaches nothing. I can`t judge or blame a parent who gives a child, who is having an out of control tantrum, a swat on the bottom. We all have our moments and I can`t say I would react any differently....

I don't feel he has "a right" to know. It was a personal decision and did not involve him. I think it is entirely up to you if you wish to share that part of your life and you should not feel bad or guilty keeping a teenage decision, particularly one you had the right to make, to yourself.

As well as having any court ordered visitation changed, counselling for your son may be a good idea. Abuse from a parent can effect a child in so many ways, even long after they are removed from the abusive environment. Your family doctor or local community services or neighbourhood centre should be able to refer you to someone appropriate.

Is it normal to refer to yourself as we sometimes? I have several sides to me but not distinct enough to be multiple personalities and yet I still refer to myself as we sometimes? I even make jokes in my head to myself and I'd actually lol if it was funny
I don't think that is abnormal. I believe most people have various distinct aspects of their personalities, and personality is influenced by a person's mood and environment. People are complex (at least all of the interesting ones are!). I always have my own dialogue taking place in my head and often laugh at what I am thinking/hearing. There have been a few occasions that I have...

There is no harm in contacting him. Sounds as though you two have some things to talk about though, before moving ahead in the relationship. He is obviously having reservations and if he does his disappearing act after things in the relationship progress, you could easily be hurt. Good luck!

What's the best possible actions aside from words to apologize? And how can you win someone's broken trust & confidence?
There is really no quick fix for that one. Winning back a person's trust and confidence takes showing them you are worthy of it through your actions. Depending on the person and what happened to break that trust, this can take some time. If you try to push it, they may be less likely to believe your sincerity.

There is a good chance the baby would be physically and/or mentally impaired. It could also very possibly result in miscarraige. Healthy weight gain is vitally important to the development of the fetus. Any medication taken while pregnant should always be cleared by your doctor.

Whats the fastest most reliable way to get rid of acne/pimples? (home remedies please)
for those annoying ones under the skin:
Take a damp washcloth and heat in the microwave for about 30 seconds (as hot as you can tolerate it without burning your skin). Apply to the pimple until the cloth cools. Repeat this 5 or so times. It will draw the pimple and associated nasty gunk (technical term) up and out.

I think rehab should be an option though it would be problematic. If an addict does not have the desire to change, they would likely not be successful in rehab. Ideally, rehabilitation programs would be introduced into prisons (programs already in place improved upon). Even if they had...

if I am single - it implies there is something wrong with it. pasta is always good - can add chicken, seafood, vegies, sauce, etc...to suit one's taste. Can even buy a can of sauce to make it super easy.
Quesadillas are easy to throw together - just throw some cheese, onions, tomatoes, peppers, chicken, etc...into a tortilla and grill.
Stirfry's are also pretty foolproof

Nature vs nurture. I think males are socialized to believe crying is a sign of weakness and something to be ashamed of. Yes. There are few people who are intentionally homeless or live that way due to complete laziness (I know many would disagree with me). I think people have a hard time agreeing to disagree. Many immediately jump to the conclusion that if you disagree with them, you are personally attacking them. A lot of people's self-esteem is based on being right. They will defend their opinion without opening themselves up the slightest bit to hear where the other person is coming from. This is too bad. If she has not been spayed and has had access outside, chances are she is pregnant. You could take her to the vet for confirmation. If she is pregnant, I would have her spayed as soon as it is safe to do so after she gives birth. Cats that are not fixed can result in thousands upon thousands of kittens being born - many of those kittens will be put down due to a lack of homes.

Have experienced some "bad trips" too, where I've had to shut myself in a room away from everyone and wait for the acid to wear off. Glad I experienced it, but...

I'm not one of your friends, but congratulations! Sometimes people don't think to do things like that. Don't take it personally, and be proud of yourself for recognizing other people's achievements.

Ladies, If you were flirting with a guy in a club & he was flirting back. Would you leave the club without his number? Would you cross that room & ask for it?
Depends - in clubs, my actions are usually dependent on liquid courage. If I have a few drinks in me, I would (and have) ask a guy for his number. Never had a bad experience doing this.

How do i get a co-worker to shut up so i can leave... i wind up staying 30-40 minutes after work because he wont shut up. both of us are males..not gay.. he just goes on about politics and i hate talking politics..i have to say i need to go 3-4 times!
I've been there. All you want to do after work is to go home, and a chatty co-worker is so annoying. If you have tried saying you have to go and he still keeps talking, there is not much else you can do but walk away. I would say once more, firmly, "look, I'm sorry, but I have to go", and then just walk away, even if he continues to talk. This may seem rude, but him...

My best advice would be to trust your gut and don't ignore the red flags (these are easy to dismiss or to make excuses for). Is he being evasive at all? Does he have trouble opening up to you or does he avoid certain questions. If he has just gotten out of a long term relationship, chances are he still has lingering feelings for his ex and there is the possibility of him returning to...

I don't think that is weird at all. I think that is something most of us wonder. You are aware your "friend" is imaginary, so don't think that is an issue. You have just thought of a creative way to confront and work through what you are feeling. I actually think that is a great idea and healthy thing to do. And hey, weirdness is what makes people interesting, so embrace...

- Calculate time on the island (besides knowing how long you have been stranded, that could help you predict weather patterns, seasons, etc)

If a person is socially deprived do you think it could literally turn an individual insane over time?
Depends on what you mean by socially deprived. I think that social isolation can absolutely have an impact on one`s mental health. Humans are social creatures and a lack of social interaction influences how a person views themselves, others, and how well they are able to socially interact once they do start socializing again. Too much time alone with your own thoughts can definately mess with...

Can hitting a dog ever help train it?
No. No. No. Hitting a dog will do nothing more than hurt it and instill fear. It will not connect being hit with whatever it is the person perceives it has done wrong. I think people who abuse (and hitting is abuse) animals and people who abuse children share many traits. Dishing out violence on the vulnerable and defenceless is the lowest of low.

I can never understand why people get animals when they do not have the time or willingness to care for them properly. Keeping a dog crated for that length of time is abusive.

I agree with many of the responses here. Confidence and cockiness are two completely different things. If a person is confident in themself, they are less likely to be cocky. It is usually those with low self-esteem that use cockiness in an attempt to hide their insecurities. Even when the show of big ego is being used as a cover up, it is still a huge turn off. I seen my doctor yesterday and of course they weighed me. I gained weight; I'm now 130lbs. Is that too much for a woman who is 5'1"?
I checked it out on a body mass index chart. 122lbs is the target weight for height, so you are very close to where you should be. Ideal weight varies depending on body type as well (small, medium, big framed). I don't think you have anything to worry about. There is too much focus and pressure on women to be thin, often to the point it becomes unhealthy. Be healthy, be happy!

That's a tough one - I feel for you. I'm a vegetarian and have run into this situation myself. I would not suggest taking the lamb and leaving it on your late. The host would likely think you didn't like the way the meal was prepared and could be offended. I would be upfront. You could call and explain that while you do not eat lamb, you are sure you will be more than happy...

It sounds as though things are in the very initial stages, and though he is contacting other women online now, that may change if an in-person relationship is established. I would tread cautiously. You should not have to continue paying support to your ex, but will likely have to go through the courts to have the order changed. The support should be going to the grandparents if they are now the ones solely responsible for your child's needs.

That depends. Were any visitation rights for her father established through the courts? If so, these have to be adhered to (unless doing so would place your child in danger. If this is the case, you would have to argue to have visitation changed in court). If there is no visitation in place, you do not have to. This would be entirely up to you. Don`t push it. It is her decision as to if and when she want to date a person. Not respecting this could not only push her away more, but could get you in trouble at work. Let her know you would like to take her out if and when she is ready, then back off.

I don`t feel that having a job and feminine characteristics are related in any way, even if the job is one that is typically thought of to be a ``man`s job``, such as construction. Feminine characteristics are not so much defined by what you do, but rather how you act and behave. Women are equally as entitled to jobs as men, and in today`s society, it is usually a neccesstiy to make ends meet.

My $$ would be on the leprechaun - elves would get soft working in that jolly, merry environment. However, an elf is bound to go postal one of these days. In that crazed state of mind, an elf could probably take on the leprechaun, santa, Mrs. Claus, and the whole herd of reindeer.
Answer to:
The linked picture shows racial differences in the brain structure. What do you think?
Its hard to believe that sort of fantastical crap used to be found in school textbooks. Though we've made some progress, its a good reminder not to believe everything you see and hear. Pictures like that make me cringe.

Would you read a book twice even though you already know what happens?
Yes. I re-read a lot of the books I loved when I was younger. It helps me remember why I love reading so much and gets me excited about books again when I have gotten out of the habit. Its a little embarrassing, but I still occasionally pull out and read books from my elementary school days. Gordan Korman was my favorite, and I still enjoy his books.

The word 'paki' is seen as offensive. I get called a scot or a scoty.. and i'm sure you have short names from where you are from. So why are those words not offensive but this one word is? :S
I think the word is used so often by ignorant racists, that it now has negative connotations associated with it. While the word itself is not offensive, this is unfortunately the intention of many who use it. I always get a kick out of asking those who use words such as paki or hindu in a simpleminded attempt to slam someone if they can explain what the word means. It feels good to expose...

Yes. I was always very anti-pit bull. I thought they were aggressive, unpredictable, and was in favour of banning the breed. Then, about a month ago, I had one left at my home by an aquaintance I let crash on my couch for the night. "Brick" is still with me. He is goofy, playful, affectionate, gentle, and has so much character. I am so happy with the pit bull addition to my...

What is the name of a dead pet you miss?
Molly - my basset hound. I miss our trips to the park. I would let her run off leash so she could chase the squirrels (would never catch them). Her giant ears flapping up and down and the look of pure happiness on her face. I would swear she was laughing.

My husband is physically and emotionally abusive to me. We have kids and they do not want me to leave him. He does the abuse in front of them sometimes. Is leaving him wrong or right. Iwant what is best for my children but i do not like the abuse.
An abusive environment is never the best thing for children. Even when the abuse is not directed at them, or does not take place in front of them, it still has a huge negative impact. Remember that parents are one of the biggest influences in children's lives. A large percentage of girls who grow up in an abusive household enter into abusive relationships themselves. Boys often adopt...
