Answer to:
My fiance often acts unhappy and picks fights, even threatens to break up with me. But in the end she never actually wants to break up. I was dishonest with her 2yrs ago when we met (about my appearance). She says it stems from that. What should I do?
I would say she's lying. She may not know she's lying, she may actually think that's what the problem is. Women's minds are complex. To use a simile, it's sort of like women think in fractals instead of the more recognizable geometric shapes a man might think in. The thoughts still travel in geometric shapes, but they can be very hard to pin down with a coherent...

Can you be called an otaku if you have 50 some manga that you like to read? Or is that reserved for someone who is a little more of a fanatic...?
Originally, the word referred only to fanatics, like kinda scary fanatics. But more recently the word has come to a wider use and also refers to mere enthusiasts, or people who just really like something.
You can call yourself otaku if you want, but you don't have to.

In Tae Guek Oh Jang, there is a movement that doesn't seem to make sense to me - a side kick with a simultaneous punch. My arm is much shorter than my leg - why would I punch and kick at the same time? Any insight on what this is tact
It's just a thought, but if you are close enough to strike your opponent with your fist, your leg will also hit 'him'. A double whammy. Also, the leg is stronger, and as it is lower, it might tip your opponent towards your fist in reaction, making the blow stronger. Even if that is not so, a double attack makes it harder for your opponent to just dodge.

The word itself basically means 'generous, something given beyond normal expectations'. That can be a good or a bad thing. It doesn't mean freedom, unless it's the freedom to annoy those around you with your opinions and policies to your little heart's content.

Should a woman ever pursue a man who has lost interest in her?
Ummm.... Only if she's married to him, or in a similar situation. And then, not hotheadedly or with illogical passion. Not saying that passion is wrong, but passion only with no thought or real conviction usually turns a guy off.

I hate being lied to. I just can't stand it. But there are lines. There are things that shouldn't be said unless one is asked pointblank, and sometimes not even then. Yep. Why bother? If there's no chemistry, there's no chemistry. Keep him as a cool friend.
Also, there may be good reasons that you aren't attracted to someone whom you are positive you should like. Sometimes your body and subconscious know things that you don't consciously observe.

Why do people find it necessary to prove that the Da Vinci Code is not factual and Mary Magdalene was not special to Jesus?
Probably because they know there are a lot of gullible people out there and it offends their sense of 'honesty' or 'rightness' to let it lie.
Well, and some people just have to prove that they are always right. Isn't it annoying when they really are?

Other than the PH difference, a weak acid is much less corrosive and generally less dangerous than a strong acid. Strong acids are generally reserved for industrial use and things like mining and metallurgy. Or car batteries and regular batteries.
Weak acids are general more helpful for personal or household use. Lemon juice and ascorbic acid are two examples.

To be blunt: bad behaviour usually is rebellion. If you confront it, you may have a down and dirty fight on your hands.
As a parent, you know that dealing with that is part of your job.
But as a parent, you also realize that some things aren't worth fighting about. Sometimes children misbehave because subconciously they want a.) to see how far you can pushed b.) how many of your buttons...

I had a near death experience once and the "white light" was on the right and "darkness" was on the left side of my brain. (I saw it clearly). Do you find this may be correlated with right-brained creativity versus left-brained logic?
Could be.
To be depressing though, I'm more inclined to believe that it was just how your brain chose to interpret the trauma into imagery.
But if you tend to think logic is restricting and creativity is freeing or enlightening, then the two could definitely be related, as the subconcious often translates our beliefs into interesting imagery.

The reason I believe this is that English is the main US language, and our laws, regulations, rights, and national customs are usually stated in English, and these are things immigrants need to learn in order to function as a non-criminal, contributing member of society. An immigrant who REFUSES to learn the language of the country he/she wishes to move to is probably an...

It appears to be common for people of various religions, or even no religion at all, to wear cross jewelry. Why would a non Christian want to wear a symbol that represents our salvation through Christ's death?
Most probably because it appeals to them.
However, originally, the cross was not a christian symbol, but a pagan one. Scholars have traced it back to standing for the 'T' in Tammuz, another name for Nimrod, the man who first founded cities after the flood against God's direct orders. Several major dieties from several (fairly major) pagan religions also trace back as to being...

Should men have the right to decide laws on abortion, when they will never experience pregnancy and will never have to keep a baby in their body which they don't want?
Yes. Men are human too. They can't carry children in their own bodies to protect them if the mother doesn't want it, but they are still parents. I agree that women and mothers should have rights, extensive rights in this case, since it is their bodies involved, but I also believe that men should have the right to protect their offspring, and even unborn children should have the right...

You could use that numbing gel that they use for teething babies.
I really don't know if there is a way to speed up learning, other than to bite down slowly and to practice moving your cheeks out of the way of your teeth.
I didn't have this problem with my wisdom teeth, but I had it with my regular teeth, and I think it took two or three years for my mouth to adjust. I still have...

I've heard that statistic for unprovoked attacks by healthy animals is 0%.
Prairie wolves are actually coyotes, and cannot be counted.

Use a picture and colors that catch your eye.
Don't use more that two types of text, and try not to get a "crowded" effect.
Use font sizes/styles that are easy to read but don't overwhelm your background. (Unless that is your intent.)
Make sure your design is balanced, not "busy" on one side and "blank" on the other.

I think for those who tend towards, and revel in, fanaticism, it is 'real faith'. (ex. puritanism). For the rest of us, though, it is just "playing it safe". Admittedly though, for those of us who love God, there is a legitimate element of fear of damnation, because it would mean eternal separation from God. <I don't believe in hell, as such, and not in purgatory at...

What is your reaction when people tell you are stupid
Mentally: "So are you, or rather, look who's talking! Amazing that you are unintelligent enough that you have to tell me I'm stupid to make yourself feel superior. Now bugger off before I have to kill you. LEAVE. NOW."
Reality: Usually just a raised eyebrow and a "Do you really think I care what you think?" look. I'm usually afraid I'll say something...
Answer to:
What is the largest age difference YOU would personally have between you and someone you dated seriously or were contemplating marrying? Are you male or female, and who is older, or does it matter?
I think that a maximum of 3-10 years difference probably works best for most people.
But when I was 18, I seriously contemplated marrying someone about twice my age. I think mental age/maturity sometimes is a LOT more important than physical age. It wasn't the age difference that stopped me, it was the fact that he was no more mature or financially stable than I was. Even at 18 I had the...

Is it possible to be a racist and still be a Christian?
Depends on what you mean by "Christian".
But according to most definitions, oh yeah! Just look at the Crusades in the Middle Ages. Or even Martin Luther (the priest, not the American).
For those who love to hate, religion is just another excuse. Bigotry at its finest. History proves it over and over and over and over.....

Do you judge books by their covers?
Only when it has a title on it that I've been waiting/searching for, or if I like the author so much that I'm willing to read anything they write. Otherwise, I also flip through the book to get an idea of whether or not it might really be worth reading. But covers generally help, especially those blurbs on the back or on the inside flap.

When I write,I have trouble describing things.I can't find a site with a list of adjectives and adverbs and words they can describe (ex. eyes: soft, hard, cold, dazzling.stood: suddenly, slowly, hesitantly).Anyone know of a site that provides lists like this?
I won't try to compete with those lists, but I will say that if you know what a word means, it is easier to remember when you need it.
For instance, I can often come up with more synonyms than the average thesaurus for most words because I know what all those words mean, more or less. (Of course, you may just find this discouraging, because it makes thesauruses more or less useless)

What book made you feel hopeful about the world?
Any number of books: Some great, some good, some not so good. Most made me laugh, some made me gasp or cry, some just impressed the hell out of me. (Excuse the expletive.) Any book that I walk away from feeling better or more thoughtful than when I sat down with it, is a book that lightens my outlook and makes me feel more hopeful about the world.

Answer to:
I want to become an author someday, and I couple days ago I asked what you all looked for in a fiction novel. Many of you said "depth of characters", so I am working on that. What are some very effective ways I could do that? Your ideas are very helpful!
Details, details, details.
Flat characters are so easy: they say a few things, do a few things, have a brief description. [Like a line sketch for an artist.]
Characters with depth, not so easy at first: They do more, say more, have more detail over all. [Like a full-detail drawing for an artist.] They have thoughts, but also a WAY of thinking, and a WAY of talking. They have a code of morals...

Mind you, this depends on the color values not clashing (not too likely in this case) and styles not clashing (unlikely if both items are simple) and the fabric textures not clashing (generally an issue that you don't think about much, but important). Easiest way to tell is try it on and look in the mirror. If you are still not sure, go show off the outfit to a friend or...

Does a person have to have faith or be spiritual to be moral?
I see this touted as the main reason children need to have religion and I don't believe it. Your thoughts?
Technically, no. Morality is tied to culture and upbringing. Religion creates a sort of sub-culture within a given society, so yes, morality is tied to some extent to religion, but more on a cultural basis, not the good vs bad basis that many think of it as.

When will the US become a bilingual society?
The US has always been a multi-lingual society. The reason English is its official language, is not because "the government decided so based on a single majority", it is because when it was put up for vote which should be the common language, Americans voted for English. About three votes different, and we all would have been speaking German today. There is nothing wrong with wanting...

No.
Poetry is an expression. Not every expression needs to be or even should be read.

Because, originally lead was used in pencils. The term caught on. It stuck even after it was changed to graphite to prevent lead poisoning.

Considering that at any given moment every cell within our bodies is doing whatever it can to stay alive, why is it so hard for us to stop the bad habits which we know can kill us or impact our future quality of life?
Because people are self-destructive. Weirdly so, almost to the point of "born to die" as quickly as possible...
But that is why they start those habits, and only partly why they don't kick them. People are lazy by nature when it comes to some things, and kicking bad habits is hard because of addictions or pathways worn by repetition into the brain.

Well, I find it fascinating because it looks sort of like a time exposure of the stars/galaxies in their orbits, but the village is painted like a snapshot moment. And I've always found peace and wonder in the night and the nighttime sky.

Is diet pop bad for you?
Yes. All pop is bad for you because of the carbonation, but some of the artificial sweeteners in pop turn into poisons at over 95 degrees. Nice that normal body temperatures are about 98 degrees: guaranteed poison.
Nutrasweet was originally developed as an ant poison-a task at which it succeeds admirably. Humans don't drink/eat OTHER ant poisons. So why this one? Because it is sweet, of...

What is your motto in life?
Probably: nil desperandum. (Never despairing) It is a family crest, although maybe not our family's, but I've always thought it really appropriate. Depression runs in the family, but if one refuses to despair, why then there is always another chance, another solution, another opportunity. Another moment to get an answer from God.

sextant
<grin>
Actually, I usually only abbreviate a very few words, like esp.(especially), w(with), etc.(ecetera). I only use those because they are so commonly known, or in w's case, because I often find a 'with' in a space where it helps to have it shorter when I write.

Why can't Christians have sex before marrige?
It's not that they can't, obviously many do.
It's that christians believe (or some of us do) that having sex outside of marriage cheapens what is supposed to be a sacred bond within marriage. Sex is supposed to be an expression of deep love (not excluding lust from that love). If one has premarital sex, however, it is more likely that the mind will subconsciously relate sex...

Should we allow my cat and my roommate's rabbit to be in the same room, or should we keep them separate?
I don't know. Are you afraid the rabbit might eat the cat? Or just terrorize the cat?
Seriously though, if your cat is not very predatory, you should watch them together (carefully) for awhile, and then decide, based on their reactions. If your cat keeps eyeing the rabbit in hypnotized fascination, then it would probably be better to seperate them.

Vigilante style justice has a place, a very small place, in the balance of justice. On the whole though, it leads to chaos and anarchy, and a country in anarchy is NOT a place you'd want to live. Do really smart people study hard or does it come naturally to them?
Smart people generally find learning comes more naturally to them. Studying is another matter. It requires discipline, and some really smart people never learn that discipline.
Obsessively investigating something that has caught your attention for a time is NOT the same as knowing how to study. A person who knows how to study, will be able to study even things that bore them to tears.

How do individuals harm little, innocent, children and then they are able to live? I do not understand it at all...
Easy. They don't have your mindset, or your tender heart. To a large extent the mindset that children are precious and should not be harmed is cultural, especially 'familial culture' or the attitudes within a specific family. If one is not raised to be bothered by the notion of children being harmed, then one is less likely to be bothered by it.

Do you believe the bible to be divinely inspired by God, or the work of man?
I think it was divinely inspired, but written by men. If you think about it, it is amazingly coherent for a series of manuscripts written by vastly different men over that long a period of history. Especially when you consider that its been translated into nearly every language on the globe. Yes, people keep finding older manuscripts to update the accuracy with, but translation still demotes...

Be jealous all you want, but don't let it leak onto your friendship. Go have a hissy-fit and beat up on your bed or something... If you lose a great friend you will always regret it. And frankly, you wouldn't even know if the guy is worth it at this point. Another thing you might regret later on...

If you were a planet, what would the surface of planet you be like, and what kind of (If any.) life would populate you?
Probably, as a planet, I would be one with lots of forests and mountains, oceans and lakes, with lush plains and clear rivers, tiny deserts, islands with rich rainforests. Population would consist of every fascinating creature around, including the mythical and fantastical, but nothing completely or inherently evil.
I don't think I'd like to be a planet, though.

A short-circuit in your brain. This is not a bad thing, mostly like, just odd.
The brain is fully capable of recreating scenes with perfect sound, sight, taste, touch, and smell memory. [Awesome, huh?] A persistent scent memory is often kinda like getting a song stuck in your head. It also might be associated with a minor psychosis. If it refers to idealogy (or possibly sex), then I agree.

What is the purpose of Seventh Day Adventist women wearing the Kerchief over their hair on Saturday
First, I will state that most Seventh-day Adventist women do not do this. The very few I have seen do it, do it to keep their hair neat.
However, there is a place in the old testament that says ....Hmmmn...something about women covering their hair in the sanctuary as a sign of respect...I think. It's been a few years since I've read that one. But that might be the reason.

If the letter "J" was not invented until the 14th century then how did the KJV of the bible (published in the 1830's)pronounce Jesus? And why does the old testement refer to Immanuel and the new testement Jesus?
Not sure about the "J" part, but I'm sure they used whatever the equivalent letter was, since the J stands for James.
Immanuel means God With Us, a reasonable title for the promised Savior. Jesus is a form of Joshua, and was His name.

Good question. As far as I can tell, succeeding in fashion is about having a superiority complex and convincing others that your taste is superior. I'm only 15 and I'm attempting to write a novel. I've actually gotten pretty far with it, but I'm not too confident about it, and I haven't even written any short stories. Am I kidding myself?
No. Everybody writes differently. One of my favorite (and now bestselling) authors writes very few short stories, she does better with books.
Just remember that every writer has a struggle to get a publisher to accept their book. And then your editor will probably make you rewrite a lot more than you think neccessary. It's a big part of being a published writer.

Is it unhealthy for me to get less than 5 hours of sleep every night?
Experts say that people need eight hours sleep a night, at least half before midnight to be healthy. A sleep cycle averages about 4 hours. I don't know what this says about the people who thrive on 6 hours sleep or the ones who need 10 hours sleep.
So, yes.

Supposedly the first American explorers to reach the west coast traveling over land from the east coast. I'm not sure if this was before or after the Colonies became the United States, but I think it may have been after. Their guide was an American Indian woman, whom they later took back to England with them, where she died.

One study says that 60% of people are visual learners. That leaves 40% who aren't. If someone is in the 20% of audio learners, then they have the option of audio books. But that leaves the 20% of tactile learners. Words must be pretty boring to a strictly tactile learner, I mean, you can't touch them with your hands to learn extra info that way.

Are trees that are farmed specially cultivated to grow faster?
Possibly, but I find it unlikely. They probably just use faster-growing varieties. Some types of trees grow to 30 ft or so in 5 years or less. Forcing a plant's growth weakens it and makes it more prone to disease and bugs, not a good thing in most crops, especially in trees, which are supposed to live a long time.

Are there fighting styles that use a yo-yo or a fan? If so how advanced are they?
I've heard of people using metal-spined fans as weapons, but I've never heard of yo-yo's being used. Sorry I can't help you more, but I really don't know much about martial arts in detail.

What do you believe, but cannot prove?
That I have my own personal gremlin that only steals gloves, and my favorite winter hats, my best pens, and an occasional shoe or important paper. It's really, really sneaky[:> If I ever catch it, I'm going to ship it off to my uncle David. I'm sure they'll get along just fine.

Answer to:
Will the Internet be basically the same in 100 years time? Or do you think a time traveller from today would find it unrecognizable or at least very different?
When my mom was a kid, computers took up a whole room and data was entered with a punch card. When I was a kid, I'm pretty sure internet hadn't been invented yet.
So, I think a time traveller might recognize the internet, but I'm pretty sure it would be vastly different equipment-wise, and thus access-wise.
I think I'd be really disappointed in humanity if it wasn't.
Answer to:
I understand if one desires salvation you must love God with all of your heart, mind and soul. Are church rituals necessary for salvation?
In the new testament, in John chapter 3, Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus. This is what he is saying at the end of the conversation, in verses 16-21:
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish, but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world through him, but to save the world through...

Why do you keep yourself as Anonymous? [this question is for the Anonymous posters]
Well, the first question I answered, I was really uncomfortable with answering, so I decided to be anonymous for it. I don't know how to change the designation though.
Oh, I see you answered that. Thanks.

Answer to:
Are Christians lonely?
Sure Christians get lonely. I mean, we're never alone, God is always there, and most of us have friends, family, and church family. But I don't know anyone who doesn't feel lonely, isolated, or alone in a crowd at least sometimes, and most of the people I know are Christians. But lets face it, lonely is a state of mind, for the most part. If a Christian believes in a loving God...

Answer to:
Why do people so vehemently attack the Jehova's Witnesses for their beliefs?
Jehovah's Witnesses vary from area to area, please believe this, I am not kidding, so there are going to be various reasons for the attacks.
I used to live down the street from a JW church. I like JW's. Most of them are sincere. I used to have a good friend who is a JW. So I don't attack them.
I do resent the ones who come to my door and try to A.) give me literature to...

Christians, do you disagree more with Athiests, or people with different faiths?
I haven't met very many athiests, so I haven't disagreed with them very much. In my experience, though, athiests are just like every body else, they all believe something different. I've disagreed with people within my own faith, too. Sometimes I even disagree with myself. It comes with having the mind-set for being a writer, I guess. I don't mean to be flippant, but even...

Is Noah's Arc supposed to be a true story, or is just meant for children?
The Hebrews are like rabid record-keepers, so I would have to say its definitely MEANT to be a true story. What you believe is up to you, of course, but personally I believe it is true, and trust God to know the details, since what has been passed down is convincing but just 'a tad' sketchy and confusing. Of course, if you believe in a God who can create whole worlds and solar...

Answer to:
Do you find it easy to forgive?
Yes. And no. It depends on what you really mean by forgiveness. If you mean not holding it against them and moving on with my life, its not the easiest thing, but with a little practice I've found it easier than not doing so.
And as a Christian, I find it difficult to live with myself if I don't, not only because of the "do unto others" rule, but because holding a...

Why do some lesbians dislike bisexual women?
Maybe I shouldn't comment, because I think almost all of the above comments were well thought out, but I can think of a couple reasons that they MIGHT feel that way.
The first would be that the lesbians in question might consider bi-sexual women opportunists or players, and definitely not trustworthy.
The second is that historically individuals or groups who have been the object of...
