What do you have that you wish you didn't?
One foot that is 3/4 of an inch larger than the other. It makes it difficult to buy shoes.
Filings -- how about a a perfect mouth, without any filings or receding gums.
Eyeglasses - perfect eyesight would be nice too.
It's not that I'm complaining. You asked the question, and this is what came to mind.

Have you ever discovered someone with the same name as you (first and last name) on the internet? Did you email them to say "Hi" or did you think about contacting them? If you contacted them, what happened?
I have Google-d my own name to see what comes up, and I find these "other" people with the same name.
I think about forming a Ronald __lastname___ club [ha ha] by contacting them, but never do.
Just wondering if anyone else has ever thought about this.
Answer to:
Would you turn your best friend in for a $250,000 reward (i.e. San Francisco fiber-optic cable cut)? Would it make a difference if it were a violent or non-violent crime (i.e. vandalism vs. murder)?
For a murder, I would turn them in myself, but not take the money (it should go to the victim's family).
For cutting a cable, I'd talk to them to suggest they come clean (or at least promise to never do such a foolish thing again).
I wouldn't want my friend to get me into trouble. Just having knowledge of something like this puts you at risk.

Finding a DOCTOR - How did you pick your primary care doctor -- (random choice, other)?
I checked the website for my health insurance, and chose a doctor near my house.
I just took my chances, and figured that if I didn't like him, then I'd randomly choose another doc until I found the "right" one.
Because so many doctors have websites today, if I were to do it again in the current environment, I'd do a little research on the web, to at least get a...

Does anyone who took their vote away from Al Gore and gave it instead to Ralph Nader in the razor-close 2000 election regret it in view of the war?
I voted for Ralph in 2000. I volunteered for his 2008 campaign at the DC headquarters, and I have a Nader 2008 bumper sticker on my car right now.
He'd make a great president, and I'll continue to vote for him if he runs again.
Also, just because I voted for Nader doesn't mean that I would have voted for Gore (or Bush). Perhaps I wouldn't have voted at all. I...
Answer to:
I'm suppose to take 800mg to 1000mg of vitamin D daily. My Calcium supplement contains 200IU of vitamin D. How much is that? Am I taking enough?
I think you mean 800 to 1000 IU/day (not mg).
The US government officially says that 200IU/daily is needed for adults below age 50. However, that level was set years ago, and is out-dated.
Many doctors now suggest 1,000IU, 2,000IU or more per day to maintain a blood level of 50 to 60 (optimal). Below 32 is considered deficient. It's a simple blood test to check levels from time...
Answer to:
Can vitamin D improve your mood and energy level? I heard that because its also in sunlight.
It did for me. I was at 10 (deficient). My symptoms were low mood and fatigue. The optimal range is 50 to 60.
Answer to:
Has anyone (after a blood test for vitamin D deficiency) been prescribed 50,000iu vitamin D3? What was your D test number and your deficiency symptoms prior to taking D3? In what ways and when did you feel improvement in (which) symptoms?
Deficiency symptoms: fatigue, trouble sleeping, low energy, low mood.
Tested at 10.
Given 50,000 of D-2 once per week until not deficiency.
Started to feel better after about a month, but continued to improve after that too. All symptoms eventually went away.
Now take 3,000 of D-3 every day as maintenance dose.
Answer to:
Vitamin D -- What's your level (if you've been tested)?
Two years ago, I had major fatigue and got tested. I was at 10 (very deficient). After a few months, I got it up to about 35 (within normal range, but still on the low side).
I haven't been retested in about 18 months, but I've been taking 3,000 units of D-3 daily, so I hope it's hanging around 50 to 60 (optimal). I'm getting a physical next month, so I'll get it...

I'd like to see Ralph Nader in there.
He wrote a book about GM near the start of his career, and GM sent spies after him.

I'd like to see a totally different approach. Ralph is super honest, and we need pollution-free and high mileage cars.

If Ralph Nader runs, should he run as a Democrat (to not split to Democrat vote)?
Ralph's main challenge is in getting TV time. He is left of the Democrats, but running as a democrat would get him more media coverage, access to the debates, and possibly more supporters. I think that Ralph's platform is top-notch, but the system is rigged against third-party candidates.

My thinking is that mother nature knows best.

City Life

Answer to:
Which musical instruments are easiest to learn to play?
I'll take a different approach here and say "guitar." It can be very difficult to play, but it all depends how a person starts.
Lots of songs can be played with only 3 simple cords -- C , F, and G7. It's important to have a lot of "early" wins. From there, slowly add more chords. And then to play melodies by fingering single notes. Then fingerstyle...

Answer to:
How can I get around tendonitis in the shoulder(s) and still practice Yoga 3-4 times a week?
Don't go as deeply into the poses. Yoga should never hurt. Ask your teacher to suggest modifications or new poses to try. If you can, arrange for a private lesson to discuss your specific concerns. You should be able to find a yoga routine that works for you that you can practice 3-4 a week (or everyday).
Answer to:
Are there different types of yoga that are better for certain results? (Such as weight-loss, relaxation, etc.?) Is there also a better time (than others) to do such types?
Yoga doesn't burn too many calories, but you may feel better emotionally (and as a result eat less).
Yoga & walking together (with a low-cal vegetarian diet) can support proper weight.
For relaxation, rest in savasana (corpse pose) at the start of the practice, in-between poses, and for 10-15 minutes at the end.
Try to do some yoga every day (even if only 15 minutes).

Of your local grocery store chains, which one has the cleanest bathrooms?
Whole Foods and Trader Joe's have pretty clean restrooms. Trader Joe's even has samples of soaps and lotions to use. Of course, at these upscale health food stores, cleanliness would be expected.
Giant usually has dirty bathrooms. Safeway is a step up from Giant.
Answer to:
At your regional shopping mall, which store has the cleanest restrooms?
At my local mall, I like to use the bathroom at Nordstrom's. It's the nicest. The restrooms at Macy's and Lord & Taylor are pretty clean also.
In general, the department store restrooms are the best, and of the department stores, the more expensive, the better the restroom.

About every 3 weeks.
However, I'd like to change them every week, since I like the feeling of clean sheets. It makes me feel better, so I might increase the frequency.

Price code labels on fruit - Do you remove them before putting new fruit in the refrigerator, or just before eating?
I've always waited until the actual moment of eating. But, I must be bored because I just removed over a dozen labels.
Answer to:
Let's Play -- You're running for President. You have a singular purpose in mind for running & it's the most stupid reason ever. What is it?
I want to ban all number code labels on fruit.
It simply takes too much time to get those darn stickers off, the adhesive is not organic (so there's goes the organic fruit), and I'm tired of denting or otherwise damaging perfectly good fruit. The cashiers should be given proper training, instead of having the customers do all the extra work. Our politicians have not adequately...

Do you skip reporting minor dents to your car insurance company? Where's your line in deciding to skip the insurance claim?
I have some small dents, like from scraping in a parking garage or at the gas pump. I decided to let those go. I've also noticed dents after parking somewhere and returning to my car. I skipped those too. I figure that it would be better to keep my insurance rates down.

You could make a "coupon" book for him with 12 treats, redeemable 1 per month.
That way, he gets to enjoy all year long, and it shows that you expect to be together for another year. The coupons could be for breakfast in bed, massage, or whatever you want.

Are children who enjoy spinning around to get dizzy more susceptible to addiction later in life?
I think altered states of consciousness can be good, if they're in a natural, non-drug induced way.
Yoga and music, for example, can give people natural highs. I wouldn't stop little kids from spinning, unless it was really excessive.

Tell them the truth -- that we don't really know what happens when people die. That different religions exist because people have different theories about what happens.
But "if" they are watching over us, you know that it's in a good way.

I think that man-made extinction would be considered survival of the fittest. For natural selection to work, we'd have to do it in our pre-industrial way of living.

Why do most people hate math?
I was a math major in college, and I work with a bunch of math people (some PhDs).
I think some people hate it because it can be very abstract... hence, difficult. But it's difficult for math people too. It's sort of like learning juggling tricks with clubs, or learning to play guitar. It takes time to figure out. But it can be really rewarding when the light bulb goes off....

I put the watermelon rinds in a trash bag & immediately put them outside where they sit until trash day.

What Firefox add-ons are you using (click tools, add-ons to see the list)?
I'm using:

Answer to:
What do you do when you feel sad and alone.
Listening to music helps. Also, taking a walk. Going to the mall or bookstore. Practicing guitar. And coming to AB to chat with people.
I tend to overeat when sad & alone, but if I'm able to do one of the above, it helps me feel better.
AB can really help, but get outside too.

Answer to:
When you walk down steps, do you skip the very last step with a little hop?
I really do avoid that last step, but I haven't fallen even once. In fact, it would feel quite strange to actually make contact with it.
And I don't think that I can break the habit after all these years.

I need long fingernails on my right hand for playing classical guitar. I tried different things, and settled on using a vitamin supplement and an oil supplement to avoid cracking, splitting & breaking.
1) take 5 mg of Biotin in the morning
2) rub a little ONYMYRRHE into the nails at night

Don't worry about fitting yourself to a particular label. Have your considered sharing your feelings with your husband and/or friend?

If you won a contest where you get free plastic surgery. What would you do? Example: Breast Implants, Chin Implants, and so on...
No, it can leave scars & doesn't really work too well for already normal looking people.
If I had some serious problem, then yes. But for wrinkles, a nose a little too big, etc. -- no way. It's those things that make us who we are.
Also, at age 95, we're not going to look 25, even with plastic surgery. So it might be better to spend the money on a spiritual retreat,...

Will U.S. ever go to hemp production for paper products and save our dwindling forests?
The policy is a mess. It's legal to buy stuff made out of hemp in the USA, but it must be imported.
I sometimes eat hemp cereal, buy hemp protein, hemp bracelets or necklaces, etc. So it's not really illegal here, but it is. We should be allowed to have farmers grow hemp here. And you can't get high off of hemp.

Would the world be a better place with or without Religion?
There will always be people with false beliefs. This is not dangerous in & of itself. However, when people don't accept others because they believe different things, and they try to change others, that is not good.
So many wars have surfaced over religion. So many dead. So much money spent trying to convert people. So much has been justified in the name of "god."

Most of us grew up on teddy bears. We're so used to (as a child) hugging bears & sleeping with them as a safety blanket, that they seem quite gentle & squeezable.

Wow - the 12 year age difference may not mean much when it's 60 and 72, but most certainly it does now.
Don't get more that age, don't slow down, but instead STOP.
Take a break for awhile to get yourself together, and then find someone much closer to your age to be friends with.

About 6 times a year.
Once I cut the very tip off a finger & I couldn't get it to stop bleeding. I had to drive myself to the emergency room. No reattachment was necessary, since it was just a tiny sliver, but they needed to apply an anti-coagulant liquid to get the bleeding to stop.

Disagree. I like it here. This is more of a social networking site. I used the Yahoo & Amazon.com Answer sites a few times (before I found AB) & I thought they were very dry. I haven't tried the Google site.

I have chest hair. For the hairless men, are they born that way, or do they shave it off? I imagine, it would just grow right back. The male models tend to have hairless chests (and 6-pack abs). This is very unobtainable for most. We need to learn to be content with what we have, and hopefully people will accept us.

things to explore:
1) place your finger closer to the fret - just behind it

How do you distinguish real friends from people who you claim to be your friends?
When you're really down, a real friend will be there to listen, instead of running away.
Also, a real friend appreciates you with all your little quirks. A real friend doesn't try to change you or convince you of things.
In real friendships there is a common bond, so it's nearly 50-50, meaning it's not like only person is initiating all the contacts.

This is standard practice in Japan, Korea, etc. and I felt right at home when I visited Asia on a vacation. However, in the USA, I grew up always wearing shoes in the house, and adopted the no shoes thing as an adult.

What one thing about yourself would you NEVER tell your mother?
She seems to be a dream buster.
For example, she'll ask about my vacation plans, and I'll mention I'm planning a trip to Indonesia or India, or something like that, & she's say it's a dangerous place, or has a lot of poverty, or make other negative comments.
But I like to go camping in the mountains, & to explore difficult cultures overseas. I'm...

Why isn't it easy being green?
Actually, it's not hard.
When you car dies, buy a hybrid. Or if it's too expensive, drive less or walk/bike sometimes.
There's recycled paper for the printer, recycling waste at home, buying more environmentally friendly detergents (at Whole Foods), etc. Also, maybe trying yoga, or becoming vegan, & voting for more progressive politicians. Let's see -- what else,...

A question for the over 40 crowd...do you ever feel like your life is hafe over and the best is behind you and if so how do you deal with it?
It's a lot easier at work to be more senior. I also have the money & time to pursue new hobbies. However, I do think about medical issues in the future & the idea of growing old. The funny thing about being over 40 is that I still feel college age (maybe it's because I work just a few blocks from a college in DC & live just a few blocks from a college in MD).

What colour do you never wear? Why?
I generally avoid orange, pink, yellow, and bright red.
Actually, pastel versions of these may be okay, but I'd avoid the "bright" versions.
For me, I like darker colors (black, blue, green), I like white, and I like the brighter colors when they're available in a washed-out version. This just fits my lifestyle better, and sex (male).

What do you think about the doctors being able to access your medical records online. good or bad?
There are data breaches all the time.
My old employer (a US Govt agency) sent me a letter last year saying that my social security number got out. Laptops and disks get lost or stolen, networks get hacked, etc.
There are benefits to online access, but we really need top-notch security for this to work.

I'd feel a little strange re-gifting. There's always the possibility of getting caught. Plus, I'd want to give a gift that I myself would want to receive. And I should be okay with spending money on someone I like.
The bum gifts can always go to Goodwill.

What do you think of George W. Bush?
I can't believe that he's still holding on to Iraq. The invasion was nonsense. I think that he's out of touch.
It concerns me that one man can have so much power, and that Congress has allowed the President to get away with so much. And I have deep concerns over the public voters that base their vote for a President on their religious views.

Killing someone is out of the question. Actually, I would even have difficulty killing an ant. Stealing a candy bar from the drug store -- I wouldn't feel right about that either.
But I would be willing to ride a bicycle across the country or walk across an entire state. I'd rather do some challenge-type of activity, rather than something illegal or unethical.

Don't try to compete with the popular guys. How about trying to find a good mate for life, rather than a quick score. Also, it's cool to wait until marriage. I'd say the Tuba.
Mixed in with other instruments in a concert band, it's okay & part of the music. But all by itself, it sounds a little strange.

A local city manager is changing his sex from male to female. The City Board wants to fire him. He has done a good job in the past 15 yrs. Board members say they do not have appropriate bathroom accommodations for him/her. Is this fair?
I think this may be illegal. He could contact his EEO (equal employment officer) at work to file a discrimination complaint.
Different employers are under slightly different sets of rules, but it would be illegal to fire a federal civil service employee for a change of sex.
Also, laws aside, I think its important to value and respect the different lifestyle choices of people.

Try to engage her somehow in conversation. Not just "hi" - but something like "I like your necklace, is that new?" If AB announced plans for an informal gathering of participants (not far from your home coincidentally) where all who attended could meet in person, would you be present?
I think we should a big camping style festival with music & everything.
Actually, it would easiest to piggyback on some other camping festival. For example, there's a Bonnaroo music festival or the Lake Eden Arts festival. These are camping festivals centered about rock, and folk music.
We AB-ers could camp in a group area, for example.

What is the meaning of life?
I ponder this question too & it's a big one.
I like to break difficult problems down to smaller pieces. Therefore, I've come to ask myself whether there is meaning to TODAY.
This makes me think each morning about what I want to accomplish before the day passes & I go to bed.
It may be something simple like doing an exercise video, saying hi to a stranger, reading...

Today I saw a white swastika with a yellow tassel hanging from the bottom of it decorating someone's rearview mirror. Ironically the driver was a young asian girl. Was this item a sign of Nazi support or does it have a different meaning?
When I visited Asian temples, they were all over the place. This is an ancient Buddhist symbol. It points in the other direction. This Buddhist symbol has no connection to the Nazi party.

It's sold over 3 million copies & is excellent -- see Amazon.com reviews.

Would stepping on an ant hill be considered genocide?
I think that the ants would consider it genocide. From the human perspective, is the stepping part accidental or intentional? If accidental, then it's like an act of nature (i.e. heavy rain, lightening). However, if intentional, then it's like an act of war, and more closely approaches the word in question.

I have a Honda Insight, and I really like driving a Hybrid. Being partial to the environment, I'd like to stick with Hybrids, even if I could spend $1,000,000 on a car. In yoga classes, there's a short nap at the end of classes for 5 to 7 minutes called "savasana" or corpse pose. I find this very relaxing, and often take short savasana breaks at home to recharge. I time it by staying in the pose for two songs on the radio, which approximates 7 minutes.

I have honestly liked every single song by a band... but it's normally when they only have a single album out.
The Veronicas comes to mind as a band with only 1 record out & I love every song.
Of course, as a band puts out more records, and has maybe 100 songs one day, it's unlikely that I'd like "every" single song.

How much skin does a man have to show to be considered "slutty"?
It all depends on the setting. For example, in a Bikram hot yoga class at 105 degrees, going top-less is perfectly acceptable --- while in a candlelight yoga class, this would be unacceptable.
A midriff tank top (showing the belly button) could be acceptable at the beach, but in a shopping mall -- it's a no-no.
