My PS2 makes a scratching (like "dzz") sound when it is turned on. I put a disc in and it may make a clicking noise (some discs are fine). If I give it wack on the right side of the console, it often starts to work for a few seconds then craps out again i think that you consul is probably seen its better days, but maybe if you took it apart, and took an air compresser and blew all the dust and other things in there out, your problem just might be solved. if this doesn't work just get a PS3. :-)
