Answer to:
If your daughter was kidnapped by a street gang (that does not use guns, except for its wheelchair-bound leader), would you get her black belt knife-fighter boyfriend and the Converse sneaker wearing ninja who is boarding at your house to rescue her?
Nope, I would get her ass-kickin, fire-breathing father to find her and deal with the kidnappers. No one would be better qualified to handle it.

How do you react when somebody crowds in line in front of you? Why?
For the last few years, our family has been trying to practice not hurrying. This is making a positive impact on many aspects in our lives. Things like sitting in traffic has become much easier. I always make a point of looking behind me when entering a public place and holding the door for someone behind me, and when someone crowds the line in front of me, I usually stay quiet unless there are...

Hard to say, Ender. Lots of folks did that when I was getting serious with my Ex, especially my family. I ignored them and that mistake could have cost me my life.
On the flip side, when I met my current husband, my friends and family were all pleased as punch because they could see that I was happy.

Answer to:
Which is more necessary for the soul, giving or receiving, or are they equal?
For me personally, giving and being of service to others brings purpose and a feeling of closeness to a higher power/God/whatever you choose to call it.
I must admit though, that receiving love and compassion has literally helped me survive my whole life. Even little bits of it is huge.
So I guess I believe an ounce of love received is equal to a ton of giving. Both are necessary for me.

My understanding of house arrest is that you wear an electronic ankle bracelet that tracks your wear abouts. Some people are allowed to work and grocery shop while on house arrest, however, if they go out the specified parameters, then it is the same as violating parole and results in incarceration with added time as a penalty.

What a difficult and painful situation you are in.
It is so hard to answer the question without knowing you, your financial situation, your religious beliefs and so on.
If you are her guardian at the young age of 21, then you are already in a tough spot raising her when you yourself are still learning so much about life right now. While it's not impossible for you to care for your...

Is there a trick to getting open an old bottle of hobby paint where the paint has dried on the lip of the bottle and sealed it shut.
Should be the same as an other sealed bottle or can, you need to break the seal. Take a butter knife, turn it upside down and wrap the edge of the cap several times around the upper edge. If that doesn't work, then soak it in hot water and try it again. Good luck.

All winter I have a dry crusty nose. The discomfort even wakes me up at night. I'm not sick, just sick of this! I've heard Vaseline is a no-no on mucous membranes (petroleum-based). Any ideas for home remedies to stop this?
Use a humidifier in your room at night and place a bowl of water near heating vents. Use saline nasal spray to moisten your nostrils and drink lots more water. Also, use tissue with lotion on your nose. Good luck!

If I did something that caused my friends to turn away from me, then I would stop and seriously consider what I was doing.

I do feel pity for them when they are just too young to 'get it' and they have some serious life lessons to learn, because those will NOT be easily learned.
For adults, who have some good life experience under their belts, but still behave this way, I feel nothing. They are not worth my sympathy or energy in any way whatsoever.

I must wear a bra if I go out in public. It has nothing to do with my self esteem. I think it mostly has to do with how I am built and also, how I was raised. I certainly could live without it for a few days if I were not going out in public, or if I were on vacation at the beach and it was substituted for a bathing suite.

By doing this you show her that she can come to you with something that she feels is important, and you will be able to show her support in a caring loving manner.

I live 3 hours away from my family, and the reason I moved away is that I don't get along with them. When I visit them I feel uncomfortable, because we live different lives, we have different perspective on things. Should I leave them for good?
I suggest maintaining some distance for now without making any permanent decisions. One day, you may feel strong enough to be comfortable being yourself around them. The good thing is that if that does happen, you can always go home to your own place after a visit.

Do you have a traditional dinner on New Years Day? In Scotland we usually start with homemade soup, and steak pie (homemade of course) !
We have what my family has always referred to as a 'fisherman's New Year'. We make a shrimp, or crawfish boil with potatoes and corn on the cob.
We just pile it into bowls and everyone helps themselves.
My grandfather always said that if you bring in the new year with your friends and family all fed and happy, then the fishing would be good that year.

He is already hurting his wife again. Whether by cheating OR by lying. He is hurting her. Even if she doesn't know what's going on, he is hurting her. He isn't/hasn't been fully present with her and sounds as if he is going to hurt her eventually anyway. Also, by lying to her in an attempt 'not to hurt her again' he is just dragging the pain out that much further....

Why would a person care so much about a friend even after finding out the friend wasn't a true friend? Why do some people take friendships more serious than others?
Getting hurt by someone doesn't cancel out the feelings that you have for them. I suppose sometimes it can if the pain is deep enough and inflicted intentionally for a long period of time. However, it doesn't sound like that's what you're talking about here.
There are times in life when you have to remove yourself from a relationship (for whatever reasons) because you...

If someone introduced themselves to you and told you their job as they were saying their name, would you tease them and ask them what kind of work they do?
I don't know. I guess it depends on the circumstances.
I think some people might do that because they feel their job says a lot about who they are.
I have done something similar and got teased a bit for it, but it didn't really bother me much. I realized later that the person just thought I was bragging, or trying to over-impress him.

I haven't had a problem with ants lately, but in our old house we had a horrible problem. I believe that there were several nests under our house.
I got rid of them COMPLETELY with a product called Terro. You can read about it here: www.terro.com

You MUST follow the directions carefully though, mainly not disrupting the traps.

Assuming you made all the right choices in your life, where do you think you would be right now?
I have no clue. The worst choices that I have made in my life, were made at a time when I really didn't know myself, but all of those choices led me to where I am now and I'm really happy with my life.
The only thing that I would change now if I could would be to move all my friends and family closer to me, so we could spend more time together.

If you are eating well already, then just stay focused on quitting smoking. When you get a few months under your belt without a cigarette, then you'll better be able to focus on adding a good exercise regime.
In the meantime, try taking a walk instead of having a cigarette. If you can't take a walk for some reason then drink a tall...

Women do it all the time and raise happy, healthy families.
I did it and there were times when, as a single mom, I had to work two jobs and my daughter was in preschool during the day and with my folks while I worked at night. It was simply what had to be done at the time in order to pay the bills.

There are studies that have shown that small doses of aspirin "MAY" reduce the chances of pre-eclampsia. However you should talk to your doctor before proceeding with taking any medications while pregnant.
If you are high risk for pre-eclampsia, then you should ask your doctor about EVERYTHING you should be doing to avoid potential problems.

Shoulder pain how to get rid of without painkillers
As Koldkanuck said, it really does depend on what is causing the pain. If there is some kind of injury, then you may need a doctor's care.

Its Crazy... My boss ALWAYS turns the coffee pot off before anyone else gets any. I asked him why he did that and his response was "the coffee will burn"... Is that true? Wouldnt it have to boil in order to burn? Doesnt the pot stay at one temperature?
Your boss is correct.
Brewing coffee correctly in order to get the best results requires a specific recipe, brew temperature, brew time and turbulence.
Brew temperature is achieved during the brewing process at the time the water is introduced to the coffee grounds.
Using a brewer with a secondary heating element ruins the coffee by continuing to heat the coffee beyond the...

Like a few others here, I have to say no, I wouldn't be able to taste the difference between any of the brands you have mentioned. They are all very low grade coffees and since coffee begins to stale about 20 minutes after it is ground, then the taste is even less desirable in pre-ground coffees.

I have a sheer dress I'd like to wear to a party. Would it be more socially acceptable to wear flesh coloured "invisible" underwear, or something pretty but that covered all the essentials? Or should I just give in and buy a slip?
A beige slip, or fleshy colored slip would still allow the dress to be sexy I believe.
I was raised to dress very conservatively, not that I didn't get wild back in the day :) but I just think that there are ways to look and feel sexy without over doing it and giving a lesser impression. JMO!
On the other hand, I think that you might try both and wear what you're most...

Can you share with me, your worst roommate experience that you ever had?
I had a roommate for a short time when I was a single mother. She started bringing home her boyfriend just about every night. More and more of his things were appearing in the apartment and he began walking around in his underwear when he got up in the mornings. He freely ate our food, which didn't work for me on my very tight budget. Also, he continuously gave unsolicited advice on how I...

When suffering from anxiety what is a good drink to have in a pub? Avoiding alcohol and too much sugar.
Tonic water has sugar, but less than soda. It's good with a lime. This is my favorite to order in a bar when I'm not drinking alcohol.
You could also have a seltzer water with lemon if you wanted to avoid sugar. Of course the lemon has natural sugars, but not much in a small slice.

What is a good mixed drink to make with vodka? Something simple but good.
Stirrings makes a pomegranate mixer that is sooooo good. Add a splash of orange juice and shake with ice.
It is even better if you rim the martini glass with the stirrings tangerine rimmer and garnish with a slice of orange on the side.

Yes. I very much agree. The promotion is fine, but the folks handing out flyers should ask you if you're interested in the promotion before giving you the flyer, rather than just shoving it in your face. That's just rude and wasteful.

I leave the house several times a day, doing chores, running errands, playing with the kids, talking walks. We have a family out every Saturday and Sunday.

I think that every good relationship goes through rough patches at times.

I guess it depends on what you mean by strong.
If you are talking about caffeine per bean, then robusta is stronger than arabica. It has a higher caffeine content. Caffeine acts as a natural pesticide for the coffee trees. Robusta is grown at lower elevations and needs more of the natural pesticide, caffeine.

When describing or referring to a transgender person, is it ever socially acceptable or politically correct to refer to them as "trannys", or do you consider this to be a derogatory description?
Apache and weatherman are both right on the money. If you are a considerate, respectful person then you refer to 'desired' gender.
The term 'tranny' is certainly derogatory.

Why would someone uprate a previously downrated answer from a member who has used bigoted, discriminatory, or derogatory descriptions in their answers? Terms such as retard, tranny, etc.
I have a couple of guesses:
First, that bigoted people tend to think alike and perhaps someone found the rare occasion to support an idea similar to his/her own.
The second, well, I sometimes wonder if there are some members who just love to support the controversial questions/answers because they are addicted to the drama and excitement of stirring the pot.

Do you say sorry because you know that your apology would be accepted right away, or do you say sorry no matter what happens?
I apologize when I realize that I'm wrong, despite the outcome, I believe that I have a responsibility to myself and others to admit when I am wrong, apologize and try to do things differently when possible.
People do not always accept an apology, but that's not a good enough reason for me stay stuck in an angry or stubborn place.

Actually you can wash most everything in cold. Especially with the new cold water detergents which dilute easier in cold water. It is a sure energy saver.

Has the true meaning of Christmas got lost in the commercial part of Christmas?
I think for a lot of people it has.
As for us, we are really good at blocking the world out and staying very focused on our family. We want our kids to have loving memories to look back on, rather than which Barbie they wanted, or how much 'stuff' they got.
We also try and get involved in some kind of charitable giving too, and allow the kids to participate.

What negative qualities prevent you from being a better partner?
I am sure that there are many things that I need to work on, but right now, I believe my biggest issue is not taking care of myself emotionally.
I don't need a lot of 'alone time', but I do need some. I'm very good at asserting myself when it comes to other peoples needs, but not so much with my own. It usually resurfaces as a resentment and that's not fair to my...

As I said to Nitroduck, if Hubby ever tried to 'convince' me, it would have killed the deal.

I've been fortunate enough to have had a few great loves in my life. I've committed myself to one of them and we've been happily married for some time.
I still allow myself to fall in love with others, but obviously I do not participate in cheating behaviors. You can't really control attractions and feelings, but you can control your actions and behaviors.

I live in a condo and am interested in composting. Does anyone have any information on composting bins or worm composting(balcony-mild climate-rarely below odegF). I know basics-just looking for types or styles and advantages. must be about 25x26x30h.
We have a large compost pile and a worm bin. In our last house, however, we had very little yard space so we just stuck to the vermi-composting. This is what I suggest for small families or single folks because you will have less waste and you can use the soil sooner than you can with a regular compost pile. The soil is good for house plants (remove worms for house plants) and larger planting...

I have a 1982 Subaru (1800cc) which was originally meant to run on leaded fuel. It has been running a bit lumpy lately, backfiring and missing at times. I'm wondering whether to get it tuned up or whether changing to a higher octane fuel might help.
You might try checking the fuel filter. It may need to be replaced.

What will happen if you get married while on public assistance, will they cut you off?
When you get married and you're spouse is working, then your total household income increases to include both incomes. If you're total household income is above the low-income requirement for assistance, then yes they will cut you off. If your income still falls below the requirement, then you may still be eligible for assistance.

Have certain unhealthy relationships required you to trim your family tree?
In some ways. I haven't written anyone off, but I just don't feel obligated to spend a lot of time with my siblings or extended family. They all seem to be knit from the same wool, where I am more... cotton, I think. My husband feels the same about his family, so we just try to focus our best on our immediate family.

What are the rules and/or ethics of answering questions you suspect to be homework?
There are no clear cut rules, but I think that most of us agree that it is acceptable to give some direction as to where someone can get homework help. For example, siting resources and web sites for research into the topic of the particular question. It is also acceptable to engage in discussion on such topics if someone really wanted to take the time to help. However, just providing answers...

What are some good jobs out there? I need a job and out of ideas.
I once worked for an airline, in a land based position. It wasn't the BEST paying job (it wasn't the worst either), but you get to travel for free. If you work your way into management the pay does get better.

How do you break a curse? I'm feeling that I am either cursed or some bad karma moved in. I keep getting hit by problem after problem. It's hard to sleep & even harder to face each day.
To break a curse, or bad luck:
Release a live cricket inside your house. They bring good luck. You can also burn sage and let a bit of the smoke into each room. Last, in your mind, create a circle of white light around yourself, this is done for protection.
As for Karma, you'll need to do good and selfless things for others, especially those in need.

Whats a good way to meet nice girls? Girls that are not slutty, or party/drink excessively.
When I was single, I loved going to poetry readings around town. Lots of fun, smart, interesting people who are sharing themselves openly. Plus, you can get to know them a bit through their poetry and it gives you something to talk about right off the bat!
If you don't write poetry yourself, you can always share works of your favorite published poet.

Answer to:
"The better you treat yourself, the better other's will treat you" Do you agree with this?
I actually do agree with this to some degree.
People are attracted to those with good self esteem. Good self esteem comes from self love. It also allows a person to create boundaries with others. In that respect, it seems like a true statement.
On the flip side though, someone who is arrogant and self indulgent would only bring problems on him/herself in regard to others.

How do you tell that your with mr. right. my hubby and i have been together for 9 years only married for 4 years. sometime i just be thinking is this right we are so different, but who want someone just like you.
For the most part, I do not entertain these kinds of thoughts. Not to say, I haven't had them. I just don't feel that it's healthy to give them much of my time, so I acknowledge it and move on.
I feel incredibly lucky to have found my husband, who let's me know often that he cherishes me and our life together.
There is really only one person that I have had these...

I have just recently recieved bad news from Blank Savage's brother. Sadly it seems Blank was found dead in his barn yesterday. The autopsy said heart failure. He left a poem in the event that something like this would happen. Poem in the answer. :(
How very sad. Life is so precious and shockingly brief! I barely knew Blank Savage, but what I did know of him, I respected. Always a kind gentleman to me and many others here, he was a welcomed addition to this community and I was glad to have him as a 'friend'.
My deepest sympathy to his loved ones (please pass them along if it's possible).

I once dated a man 19 years older than me, it only lasted 2 months and I vowed I would never do this again. Have you dated someone significantly older or younger? Would you do it again?
OMG! When I was in high school, I dated a guy who was 10 years older than me... I was talking to my girlfriend (we went to school together) the other day and it came up and we just cringed!! What was I thinking?? Now that we have teenagers of our own, the absurdity of such a thing just blows me away!!
As an adult though, if I found myself single, I would have no problem dating an older...

Not anymore, but when we were kids, my brothers (Irish twins) used to do the whole routine. They were hilarious!! They were even better doing Laurel & Hardy and also, the 'Honeymooners' Jackie Gleason & Art Carney!
OMG! Thanks for bringing back such great memories!! I'm going to have to call my brothers today :)

What should you do when a "friend" starts flirting with your partner?
Tease them both incessantly about their flirting - and do it in front of other people, adding just a touch of friendly humiliation for good measure. This will stop it for good.

Do you like your computer?
It's a love-hate kind of relationship.
I love it because it lets me interact and keep in touch easily with friends and family - and when I'm sick, it really helps to have something easy to do. I hate it because I am so much less productive with other things when I waste my 'well' time on the computer!! I also hate it when I have problems that I don't know how to fix!!

Well, there were people that seemed to like it at the time, but I hate it because it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth because of what happened during the making of the video, or the recording (I can't remember which); During that time, Paul McCartney mentioned in casual conversation to Michael Jackson that the rights to several Beatles song rights were going up for sale and that he and...

From a man's point of view, what part of a women's body is the sexiest? and why.
I think that womens breasts are incredibly sexy and just beautiful. They are just fragile and soft and very sensitive to the touch. If you touch a woman's breast just the right way, she will melt for you.

Does anyone here know or has met a famous person? If yes, who?
I've had too many to count. Mostly, it's no different than an encounter with anyone else. I guess there are people who I'd love to be able to acknowledge face to face, and tell them how much I appreciate their work, but in the end, fame and fashion on it's own doesn't impress me a bit.

How could men get away without paying child support?
It just happens sometimes. Some men work under the table for years in order to avoid it, and learn how to dodge the law and the system, others just intimidate women into not enforcing it... Lots of ways...
How can they live with themselves, or sleep at night? That is the thing that I will never understand!

What is the best thing for a headache?
I agree with Nelson, it depends on what kind of headache it is.
I'll assume it's nothing serious and give a few suggestions:
If it's just a mild headache, then try massaging your scalp. If you think it may be the onset of a migrane, then take a couple of ibuprofen and drink a coke. This works to head it off!
A sinus headache can be nursed with hot tea with lemon, or simply...
