muting is a great idea, unless your trying to get a great recorded sound out of it, then you can just remove the outer head altogether and set a mic up inside the drum.

i cant speak to exactly what it is like right now, the atmosphere is very artsy, the nightlife is wonderful. there are all sorts of wonderful shop's especially around the old port. since the city is a port city you may find a few foreigners but its a very nice city. watch the winters though...
