Answer to:
According to historians the Book of Revelations was written by a Christian exiled to an island, writing against the Roman Empire. Is it possible his writings are completely misunderstood?
I think they are misunderstood. The Book of Revelation was written as a message to hope to the small group of Christians who were being oppressed by the Romans. It was hope that they would be liberated and freed and their oppressors would be punished. So I don't read into it a whole lot as a . I kind of loosely take a message of hope out of it (and some wicked metaphors). Paris is...

Answer to:
What is the difference between calvinism and lutheran interpretations of our protestant faith?
Great Question. The main difference is probably the Calvinist doctrine of predestination. This is the belief that God is so sovereign and omniscient that God knows (and some believe chooses) who is elected into salvation. Another difference is their government systems. Calvinists usually use the Presbyterian form of government, while Lutherans use a variation of Episcopal government....
Answer to:
Do you really believe that the Jesus who returns will be different than the one who preached the Sermon on the Mount about how we have to change? Would you like to explain to him why change has been switched to "justification by faith?"
Well, Jews awaiting the messiah the first time were expecting a glorious king. Little did they know that a poor infant born in a barn would be God on Earth. So judging from that, it's more likely that Christ will come back looking more like Whoopi Goldberg than this figure we're expecting. As far as salvation through faith alone, I imagine he knows ; and I'd imagine that he...

If Christianity was God's first choice, why wasn't it the first religion on earth to arise and bring forth the "God" concept?
Well, I don't think Christians would claim that God's first choice was Christianity; in fact I don't think that Christianity was intended to be a religion. Rather, Christianity is a continuation of Judaism in that Christians believe that Jesus came to fulfill the prophesies of the Jewish scriptures. Christianity broke off when many Jews did not accept Jesus as a messiah.

Just wondering what most people think of the Lilith myth (referring to Adam's first wife). Thoughts? (Link in my answer, for those who don't know it)
I kind of see Lilith as a liberating figure for women. She has become the mythical poster child of feminism. She was the metaphorical first to challenge our conception of gender roles by defying what had been historically the norm. So she's an important figure. . . If you can get away from the evil acts that she is said to do.

Did you ever prank a teacher if so what was it?
in high school, we brought a universal remote to school since every room had a tv. We had a substitute that day and we convinced her that the tv was voice activated. She would tell it to turn on or go to channel three, and we would do it secretly on the remote. Finally, we stopped pressing things so she thought it was boken. Then she called the office to have someone fix it.

I've always been taught about the descent into Hell in a Global way rather than specific details, but here's how I see it. So when I look at "Hell" in this instance, it testifies that God, a very abstract being, becomes human in Jesus and...

Get out when it starts, or even before. A lot of people don't realize it, but if there's any remote danger involved, you can get in touch with the Department of Social Services. They are trained to help you make a plan and can council you on what to do.

My husband is physically and emotionally abusive to me. We have kids and they do not want me to leave him. He does the abuse in front of them sometimes. Is leaving him wrong or right. Iwant what is best for my children but i do not like the abuse.

They're trained to handle situations like this and can help you make a decision on what to do and will stay with you in your decision.

In Presbyterianism accepting Jesus as savior usually occurs after Baptism. Most Presbyterians are baptized as infants and their parents pledge to raise them in the faith. Baptism is to be in front of the congregation because it is a promise from God as well as from the congregation that the child will be raised in...

Answer to:
Would you rather go to England, or Australia?
England because I hear that Australia is pretty similar to the US in terms of culture and all, plus it's a shorter flight to England.
Answer to:
Why do most people who have English as their first language, not speak a second?
I think it's just because since the US is such a large country, people rarely come in to contact with people who speak other languages so for most English is all that is even applicable.
I speak Spanish decently, but rarely if ever do I have an opportunity to use it (in fact I wish I could use it more).
Answer to:
Where did you go last time you used your passport?
Seattle, my driver's license was not legible, luckily I had my passport when they asked to see it.

Do you know the spanish?
I know it well enough to converse a little, but far from fluent. I am taking a lot of Spanish classes in college, but I really need to immerse myself in a Hispanic country to learn it I think.

They said he was lucky to make it.

Tell me about the most disgusting hotel room you have stayed in, or left.
My dad has a knack for finding cheap hotels that are awful. We stayed in one in San Francisco a few years ago that was pretty bad. When I saw the movie The Pursuit of Happiness, the hotel/ Apartment Will Smith and his son were staying in was the one that we stayed in.

What is a Cumberland Presbyterian, and how do they differ from other Presbyterians?
Cumberland Presbyterians split from the main group as they ventured into the frontier of America. In the mainline of Presbyterianism, ministers were required to have many years of education in college and seminary before they were ordained. Because the frontier didn't have these educational resources, they had to create their own way of creating ministers to serve in these churches....

An Atheist friend of mine said she would believe, if I could show her proof. Is there a way to show her?
I've always considered the Church to be proof of God because it has lasted as long as it has. This works for me, but, as I've experienced, it's not enough for everyone.

What purpose does speaking in tongues serve?
I don't come from a religious tradition that speaks in, but historically, it has been one of the mystical ways that God's people have communicated with God and in that I believe it probably has some authenticity. I first learned about it at a retreat a few years ago. I was taught that it is a way of clearing one's mind so that the still, small voice could be heard. I was...

In general, what perceptions and attitudes do Americans have about Canadians?
Personally, I like Canada a lot and have thought about living there when I get over. I especially like Nova Scotia and Vancouver Island (I know they're pretty different, but I like them.) I have heard some people at school say that Canadians represent the old people in the apartment above the party. Just to let you know, I stuck up for my possible future home.

Is Noah's Arc supposed to be a true story, or is just meant for children?
Weather or not you believe that the story is true or not, it is like many stories in the Bible that we aren't supposed to worry to much about weather it happened or not, but what we can get out of it. It would be wonderful if one could read it and get that God was going to reconcile with God's people in other ways than drowning them (thank goodness).

Did man really go to the moon?
No. The proof that makes me positive it was not a conspiracy is that if you look at the dirt flying in the air after one of the rover things, it's a perfect parabola, which can only be created in a space-like environment. Otherwise, they spent a huge amount of the taxpayers dollars to film it in some crazy vaccum.

Do you think it was wrong that someone snuck in their Cell phone and taped Saddam being hanged?
I think it was not right. People don't need to see the gory details of an execution. I did hear that it revealed some of the guards mistreating Saddam beforehand, which needed to be revealed, but still it would have been better if everyone had followed the rules.

What was the stupidest commercial you have ever seen in your life.
There's one Ford Sportka that I don't think ever aired on TV, but it was on the internet. A cat crawls up on top of the car and sticks it's head through the sunroof and the sunroof closes on the cat. It is really funny, very stupid, and a little on the mean side.

I'm reading a fun book called Map of Bones, I don't remember who the author is. It reminds me of Dan Brown's the DaVinci Code with all of history built into the suspense. It's basically about secrets that the Three Magi's bones contain. The Church and an American military team work together in order to get the bones back and unlock their secrets. I recommend it if...

Should you always give to the homeless?
I agree with most here. I think it's also great to give to the needy. It's a lot better if you can go buy them a meal at a restaurant or offer to buy them some groceries. I think that helps the most. My church has an arrangement with a local Grocery store where the church will give the homeless person a check that they can present only to the grocery store only to get food and stuff.
