Answer to:
What type of bowling ball is good for wood lanes?
When I bowl on wood lanes, I like to go with something that gets downlane further before hooking. Since wood lanes have more friction, this allows the ball to read the lane later and not have too strong of a hook.
Answer to:
Which bowling ball is best on synthetic lanes?
I prefer anything of brunswick, especially the fury line (i.e. fury, fury pearl). They tend to hook a little earlier, which helps on synthetic lanes that sometimes hook a little less.

What is your bowling average? How long have you been bowling?
my average is around 220-225 now and i've been bowling for about 4 years. ive bowled a couple 300s and i have a high series of 815. i don't know really what brought me on to bowling, but I just developed a liking for it and became good at it much quicker than most active bowlers (and no, i'm not one of those people who bowls every single day or for hours and hours)
Answer to:
Can you explain how a bowling handicap works in leagues and tournaments? How is a handicap set and what is an average handicap?
A handicap is a score given to a bowler in order to make things more fair. If everyone were to bowl their average, the handicap would make it so everything is even. A handicap cap is set up in various ways. A percentage is taken from the difference between one's average and a chosen number (this number is not always the same however, nor is the percentage). Some common numbers used to find...

Answer to:
Does the weight of the ball help in determining how much break it will have when you throw it?
It may help determine the amount of hook on the ball. If the ball is very light, most likely it is not made to have a lot of hook at all, although a decently strong person would be able to put a lot of spin on it. if you have a heavier ball and may not be too strong, you may get less hook. i throw a 15 and 16 pound ball and get about 50RPM less throwing the 16 in comparison to the 15, which is...

since u refered to doubles, i would agree with firebrand and go with the crosscourt shot at the servers feet. a drop shot would allow the net player to have a g ood chance of winning the point by hitting a shot with a great angle. a lob shot would allow the opponenet to get set up. a high crosscourt shot isnt that bad, but if u hit it at the servers feet, it will make it a little harder to play...

In theory, a player can win a match despite his/her opponent winning more game points. Has this situation ever occurred in a Grand Slam final?
is it possible, yes. i'll use a best 3 of 5 match for an example. if player A wins the first 2 matches 6-4, 6-4, then loses the next two matches 6-0, 6-0, then wins the last set 6-4, then person A would have lost the total games score of 24-18 but still wins the match. im not sure if it has ever happened in a Grand Slam Final before or not, but i'm confident it has occured in a Grand...

If a ground ball chopper is hit and bounces in fair territory then in the air goes over a bag then bounces again in foul territory is it fair or foul? do they judge the point over the bag in mid air or where it bounces the second time?
it would be a foul ball because it hits in fould terrioty past the 1st or 3rd base bag. it would be a similar case if a batter bunts and it rolls foul but has spin that causes it to go fair before the ball passes the bag or is touched by a defensive player then it is a fair ball. i have actually done that before and the umpire called it a foul ball! i was so mad because it was a squeeze bunt...

Why do you stand at the foul line and watch your ball?
there are actually a couple reasons. it just depends on the type of bowler u are. if u are a more serious bowler/one that really tries to bowl their best, then they watch it to see the reaction downlane and see how it curves and where and how and so on. a casual/recreational bowler might watch it because it looks interesting (especially if u curve it) which it is if ur a casual or a...

I personally think Kansas is a great team, because they are both on paper and on the field fundamentally sound. WHY DO I BOWL BETTER ON SOME LANES THAN OTHERS
If you are a bowler that puts hook on the ball, the main reason you will do better on some lanes as opposed to others is because how they are oiled. The bowling center may oil one lane so it is really really oily and another lane kind of dry (little oil). Or, if they are oiled the same way with the same pattern,it is because of the people you are bowling with and the way they throw their shot...

I am a bowler with very high rev rates, with and without my thumb. i am bowling with a Brunswick Danger Zone right now, but i need something that hooks a little less with a late but hard hook. please give me suggestions.
a danger zone is a very strong ball. if you want to go a good notch down, a groove ball would be good. they hook later and less. an intense inferno isn't a bad option either, with its strong backend.

Does anyone know how to get a strike without a headpin?? I have gotten one before but it was luck and I can not remember how I did it. It was several years ago. If anyone knows of a trick shot that shows you how to get a strike without a head pin in place
there really is no "trick" to it. what usually happens in that case is a bowler with hit the 2 or 3 pin very well, and the pins bounce off the back and fall forward. it is not too likely, but not too too rare either.

If my three games of bowling totaled 462, What is my handicap?
it rather depends on what the handicap is being taken from. such as 90% of the difference between your game average and 200, or 100% or 220. if it is 90% of 200, then your handicap would be 41 (or 42 if they round up).

I bowl with 2 fingers and find it hard to bowl with 3...how do u bowl with three?
The reason it may be hard is because you haven't developed the wrist strength to control the ball with the fingers and the thumb. As you start to bowl with the thumb, your wrist and forearm start to get stronger and used to the ball. If the ball is too heavy, your arm may be sore a couple times, but eventually, if you keep practicing, it should develop to where you can throw with all 3...

Can you score if you are called for a charge?
No, you cannot score if you are called for a charge. A charge is called when the defensive player has his body squared or his feet set and the offensive player knocks him over. A blocking foul is called if the defensive player was moving and was knocked over.

In our bowling league the high average is 223 and the low average is 145. If our 5 man team averages 172, 178, 184, 188 and 189 respectfully, what league handicap should we look for to give us the best advantage. eg. 90% of 220 etc.
well, there are a couple i would suggest. for the best chances, 100% of 220 would be the most likely and most helpful possibility. but, you might be able to get 100% of 230. i have seen ridiculous things before in handicap, however. i've seen things from 80% of 190, to 100% of 240. but 100% of 220-230 would be best.

What is an action?
well, it's not really "an" action, more it is referred to as pin action. this occurs when a bowler comes in light (left of the pocket for lefties, right of the pocket for righties) and the pins mix each other up as the head pin goes to the wall, or side of the pins, and deflects off of it and into the other pins. this is generally what pin action is.

a bender is a term used for a bowler that throws a wide hook and the ball looks like it bends back to the pocket. what happens is they throw it with about a 75 degree tilt on the ball and it rotates back to the pocket slowly, which causes it to look like it "bends" back to the pocket.

actually, it is not slang for the 5th frame. when 2+ bowlers are bowling, and all but one person get a strike in the same frame, then it is called a "beer frame", and some actually continue on with the tradition and buy beers for everyone that struck (if over 21 usually).

Answer to:
Can the center lateral the ball from the line of scrimmage?
The ball can be lateralled to I believe, a quarterback, fullback, halfback/running back, tailback, tight end, slot receiver, or a receiver in motion. I think he cannot lateral it to another offensive lineman that is an ineligible receiver. But this is only if it is a snap/the ball is being hiked. If it is a fumbleroosky play (excuse spelling) where the ball is hiked by the QB and set down right...
Answer to:
After moving into formation for a shotgun play, is the quarterback required to do anything in particular before the ball is hiked to him?
Normally the quarterback will lift his leg in the air to where the center can see it, if the verbal count or snap was not heard. I do not know this for fact, but I believe it is a silent count in shotgun formations.
Answer to:
Can a quarterback intentionally throw the ball out of bounds when he is still in the pocket wihtout penalty?
If there is an eligible receiver within the area deemed by the official of being close enough to the ball, then it can be recorded as an incomplete pass without penalty. However, if there is no eligible receiver in the area, it is intentional grounding, which is a spot foul, and results in loss of down/turnover on downs, depending which down it is.
Answer to:
Can a quarterback cross the line of scrimmage, then go back and throw the ball?
No it is not allowed to cross the line of scrimmage, then go behind it, and make a forward pass. He would be given a penalty for illegal forward pass if it were to occur. As said above, the ball can still be lateralled/thrown backwards.

When the quarterback runs the ball, and then goes to the ground without being tackled, when and how is the play ended?
The play is ended when he is down by contact (hit, tackled, touched, etc.), out of bounds, or he goes into a slide. This is only situations for the QB to be down. He could also fumble or throw an interception if behind the line of scrimmage.

Answer to:
If a kickoff goes into the end zone can the kicking team recover it for a touchdown? Is it the same in the NFL and the NCAA?
In the NFL, the ball is live until the ball is out of bounds, or ruled officially dead. It is different, however, if the receiving team touches the ball while in the endzone in the air.

Who has the MLB Home run record?
Barry Bonds in a single season with 73 and all-time is Henry "Hank" Aaron with 755. Barry Bonds took steroids and everyone knows it, but yet no one does anything and they're going to give him the record for most all-time homers, which he didn't earn.

What are your feelings about Terell Owens of the Dallas Cowboys?
Here's how I feel. Terrell is a great player, and if I'm Tony Romo, I want him out there to catch balls. As for off the field, who cares? Why does off the field matter if it does not affect his performance? The only off field incidents I care about are injuries, such as Ben Roethlisberger in an accident. The Dallas Cowboys overall are a great team. I see them going to the Superbowl...

What teams do you think have the best chance of going to the Superbowl this year?
I would have to say the San Diego Chargers from the AFC who would win it all because they are on fire and no one can stop them, especially not the NFC. My NFC team would have to be the Cowboys, because they have experience on the team with the exception of their young QB Tony Romo. They have Terry Glenn, Terrell Owens when he's not bi***y, Patrick Crayton, and Jason Witten. And you have...
Answer to:
Do you think that LaDainian Tomlinson is the best running back ever in the NFL?
I think he is CURRENTLY the best running back. He was good last year, but the talk around the water cooler was Larry Johnson, who if had the pace he did last year for an entire season, would have destroyed the records for most yards in a season and accumulated almost 3000 yards. LT is great this year, but you can't say he's the best because of one season. I am a Cowboys fan, so I...

What do I look for when shopping for a new racquet?
A grip, size, and weight you are comfortable with. Spend only what you are willing to spend on it. Don't overspend, and if you are willing to spend a good amount of money, get a racquet that will last a long time, as some cheap ones can get bent and lopsided in not very much time.
Answer to:
What is double-faulting?
When a server gets two faults in one point and the opponent automatically gets the point. They do not have to necessarily be in a row, as there could be a let or lets, but they have to be in the same point.

When your serve hits your partner who is stationed at the net, is it a let, fault, or loss of point?
It's just a fault. It would basically be the same as hitting the net and not making it over, except you hit your partner and it would hurt a lot more!

Possibly because most women do not have the stamina to go five sets. Men play best two of three, and only play best three of five in majors or grand slam events.

If I hit the ball over the net with so much back spin that it bounces back over the net to my side, do I win the point or do we play on?
You would win the point because your opponent did not hit it back over. Your opponent must hit it in order for it to count.

If a player hits the ball and it bounces in the opponent's court and then returns to the player's side of the court due to either wind or top spin without the opponent's touching the ball at all, who's point is it?

What is the best type of court (hardcourt, clay, lawn) for the different types of players (servers, volleyers, baseliners)?
Hard court is for those who like higher bounces and a medium speed. Clay is for those who like a medium bounce and a slow speed. Grass is for those who like fast speed and low bounce. Rafael Nadal is very good on clay courts because he is slow in his motions, and the clay allows him to catch up. He isn't bad at hard courts, but he is not very good with grass because it's much faster.

Answer to:
If I am out of bounds and the ball strikes me before it lands out, who gets the point?
Your opponent would because you touched the ball with something other than your racquet during play and the ball was not officially dead. In order for a play to be dead, it must be hit out of bounds, hit the other side twice, not go over the net, hit the net and not go over, the net is touched, or the ball touches a player.

In doubles, if a ball is served and it does not hit in the box but the receiver plays on it anyway, is the ball good or is it considered a fault?
It is a fault no matter what. If they hit it anyways, then play should be stopped and the hit does not matter. It must land in the service box in order for it to be in and playable.

Why do tennis pros examine their tennis balls and select some and discard others before serving? What are they looking for?
Most just get 3 tennis balls from the ball boy/girl, and which ever does not feel good or feel right to them, they'll get rid of it, put one in their pocket, and serve the other.

Answer to:
A service 'let' was issued on the first serve due to net ball landing in proper box, but if the same happens the second time, is it a 'let' again?
Yes it is still a let. There is no limit to the number of lets you can have during a point, game, set, or match. If I get a let, then fault, then let again, then serve it in, that is possible.

How can someone win 7-6, 7-6 in tennis? I thought it was best three of five.
Well, you could win in tiebreakers twice in a row. It could have been in a women's match, or a men's match that was not a grand slam event or a major. Men only play best three of five in majors and grand slam events. There is an odd thing with Wimbledon, however. If there is a 5th set, there is NO tiebreaker. If it's tied in games 6-6, they just keep playing until someone wins....

Well, I can't provide a video, but I can tell you strikes are not that easy. I am a pretty good bowler in my opinion, and I don't get strikes all too often. I prefer shorts because they are more comfortable to me. When I think of pants, I think of blue jeans which do not look comfortable at all. The only pants I wear are sweatpants and formal slacks. A referee has a good say in this matter. If during the possession, the puck is scored, that player is awarded a goal, and if someone (player #1) passed it to him, then he is awarded an assist. If someone passed it to player #1, then he is also awarded an assist. The referee may choose to only give one assist on a goal, however, or may choose to give no assists at all. Answer to:
What is the most number of runs scored by one team in a major league baseball game?
That is true, the Major League record is 36 by Chicago. It was funny though a couple of years ago. I was looking at the CWS scores, and Texas U scored 35 runs against some unknown team.

Answer to:
Has any pitcher ever earned a win without actually pitching to a batter?
No, the below statement is true. to get a win, you must throw a pitch. It is possible, however, to get a save without throwing a pitch, as you can pick a runner off with 2 outs for example and end the game.
Answer to:
What is the latest start time for a MLB game?
This depends on a few things. Which time zone are you talking about? Because many times during the season, there will be a 7:00 P.M. game in Oakland, Los Angeles, etc. which would be 10:00 P.M. on the east coast.
Answer to:
What is the most amount of fouls a player can have while batting?
Foul balls are limitless, with of course the exception of a 2 strike count and the ball is bunted foul. also, normally a foul tip with less than two strikes is just called a foul ball, but in this situation, it would be an out.
Answer to:
What is the most number of MLB players on one team involved with one out? In other words. has there ever been a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 type out recored in MLB history?
this is a very good question. I will look more into this, but the most i have seen for a single out was 7 (4-6-2-6-3-4-1). explaination: Ground ball to 2nd baseman who was running hard to his right, tossed it to shortstop, bad throw to 1st. catcher backs it up while the runner heads toward 2nd base, throws it to the shortstop covering 2nd, SS runs at the runner throws to 1st baseman. 1st...
Answer to:
Bases loaded, 2 out. Ball hit to shortstop, he throws to third, third baseman tags the runner from second before reaching third. Does the runner from third score?
No, the runner does not score, as all runners would have to be safe in a bases loaded situation.

Answer to:
If a run is scored on a wild pitch or passed ball is it considered an earned run?
it does depend on whether the batter gets a hit. but an earned run is where a player gets to each bag without needing an error to make it there.
Answer to:
If a batter hits the ball, lets say all the way into the outfield near one of the corners, and due to multiple errors, is able to run home. Is this considered a "home run" and is it recorded as such in the player's HR record?
no it is not recorded as a home run. It would most likely be a double and a 2 base error, or if he was a real speedster, the official recorder may give him a triple and a 1 base error. excellent question.
Answer to:
If an outfielder juggles a fly ball, is a runner ruled out if he leaves after the ball is touched by the fielder but before it is caught?
The runner must tag until the ball is caught, but if the outfielder bobbles it all the way to the infield, the runners can be given a free base by the discresion of the umpire. this would be similar to an infield fly.
Answer to:
When the batter/runner gets to walk to first base, can they over run the base and not get tagged out?
The batter cannot be out until he either touches the first base bag, or makes an attempt toward 2nd, in the umpire's opinion.
Answer to:
There are two outs with runners on second and third base. The batter hits a home run over the fence, but misses first base and the umpire calls him out on the appeal. Do the two runs score?
yes, the 2 runs count but the batter is recorded out and his run does not count. jed1979 makes a very good point, if the batter misses a base that is not first base, his run counts because you cannot appeal it by stepping off the rubber and throwing to the bag, as it is not a force play.
Answer to:
On an "infield fly rule" do the 2 runners on base have the opportunity to return to their original bases, if they had strayed off the base before the infielder caught the ball, or can the fielder throw to get the runner out?
the fielded can throw the runner out, as the infield fly rule helps the hitting team and the runners. an infield fly means the batter is automatically out, and prevents the defense from turning an easy double, or possible triple play. So if an infield fly is called while the ball is in the air, the runners must tag up before advancing.
Answer to:
With a runner on 1st base, the pitcher balks but delivers the ball which is hit by the batter. The runner advances to 2nd, but the batter is thrown out at 1st. What is the ruling? Does the batter out or does he back to bat?
If the pitcher balks, it is a dead play automatically. One of the umpires should claim a balk on the pitcher. If the ball is delivered and hit, it does not matter, as the play is dead. The runner advances to 2nd, with no play at any bag. If the pitcher balks with no one on base, it is recorded as a ball to the batter.
Answer to:
If a batter foul tips a pitch, and has one or less strikes and the catcher catches the foul tip, can a base runner steal a base?
no, it is recorded as a foul ball. it is an odd situation to deal with, but it is called a foul ball, which means the runners cannot advance. good question.
Answer to:
Can a runner advance on a steal to home plate from third base on a dropped fourth ball? How about if there are two outs?
You can steal home at any time when the catcher drops/misses the ball.

Answer to:
Runners on first and second, batter hits a line drive into the outfield and throws the runner going to third base out. Is that a fielders choice or a base hit?
This would be a fielder's choice, as it does make any difference whether the ball is hit into the outfield, or stays in the infield.
Answer to:
I've seen this call go both ways. Batter bunts and the ball rebounds off the plate and hits the bat a second time in fair territory while the batter is still holding the bat over the plate. It's unintentional. What's the correct call?
If the bat hits the ball more than once, it is an out, as it is an illegal hit.

Answer to:
Bases loaded, bottom of 9th, tie score, 3-2 count, runners on first + second going, catcher throws to 3rd umpire calls ball. Runner from second overruns third and is tagged out before can return then 3rd base runner touches plate. Do run and/or out count?
If the runner is tagged out going to 3rd before the runner going home reaches the plate, it is an out and the end of the inning and you would start the top of the 10th, as it is a tie game.
Answer to:
If a runner standing on first base is hit by a batted ball, what is the correct call?
Play would continue unless he intentionally got in the way of the ball to redirect the way it's going.
Answer to:
Runner at 3rd, 2 outs, and count 3-2. Runner steals home and crosses home plate before the pitch reaches home plate. Pitch is swinging strike 3, does the run count?
Yes, the run would count because he is not on a force play at home, so the batter does not have to reach first base safely. But, it would be very unlikely there would be a SWINGING strike 3 while the runner is stealing home.

Answer to:
The pitcher is on the rubber with a man on 1st. The 1st baseman is holding the runner on with one foot in bounds, and the other foot touching 1st with his toes. The rest of his foot out of bounds. Is this a balk?
Yes, it is a balk if the pitcher throws over to the first baseman. The first baseman would have to be completely inside or on the foul line. good question.

If the ball is returned but never hits the opponent's side of the table but the opponent hits the ball back and it successfully hits the table, does play continue?
Yes, it is like tennis. You may hit the ball, whether it touches the ground (or table) or not.
Answer to:
Let's say my ball lands in a sand bunker. If I notice there's a little bug on it, and I flick it off without moving the ball, is there a penalty?
No, it is not legal to do that. Unless it is interferring with striking the ball, you may not touch it. You would most likely get a 1 stroke penalty for that.
Answer to:
What would getting a hole-in-one at a par 5 be called?
Just to let you know, if you did not already know, a hole in one on a par five will never happen. But, if someone gets a hole in one, it is called a hole in one, whether you get it on a par 3,4 or 5.

Answer to:
In a match, who decides what is an unforced error? How is the statistics on unforced errors provided? Not all errors committed by a player count as his unforced errors right? Having a bet with my friend on this!
An unforced error occurs when the player has a definite chance to hit the ball back to the other side, but hits it out of bounds, or into the net. It is true that not all errors are unforced. If someone hits a ball deep in the back corner, and the opponent flails at it and hits it out, it is a forced error.

Answer to:
Why must I wear special shoes when I bowl? Does it give some kind of advantage?
Actually, the advantage of sliding is so you don't fall and you can have a clean shot. If you "stick", or fail to slide on the approach, you will most likely have a bad shot. The shoes help you to stay balanced, also, when you release the ball.

Answer to:
How do I learn how to put a spin on a bowling ball?
you need to have enough wrist strength to do it. you want to rotate the ball preferably no more than at a 75 degree angle, or you may leave a lot of single pin spares and a good amount of splits. just bring your wrist around the ball right when you are about to release it and it should create rotation.

How do you determine a handicap and how is it used?
A handicap makes things more even. If I am an experienced bowler of 15 years, and I am bowling a 14 year old, handicap evens that out. If the 14 year old is averaging 160, and I am averaging 210, then handicap can help even it out. Handicap is added to make it so if all bowlers bowl their averages, the scores will be the same. Handicap is meant to make it fair. Handicap can be taken from many...
