• Sadly nothing worked.It's not about talent, but who makes the best out of what they have on that particular day.Aussies tried their best , though, but after the departure of Hayden, Gilchrist, Symonds and not to mention Mr.Perfect Glenn Mcgrath, the team has potential, but lacks the fire it used to have.Hopefully, they'll revive once again.
  
  I agree with your debate between Cricket and baseball.I'm American and played both the games.While I lived in UK, I learned the game of Cricket.Baseball is nothing as close to Cricket in terms of complication or strategy.The variations in bowling and kind of skills used to bat, lacks in Baseball.It's only our arrogance that doesn't help us much to accept the reality.The reality is, Cricket is far more complex and not to mention, an Old and traditional game.
  One more thing, there are more people in the world who care for Cricket than baseball.

• Hardly, the positions are fixed. Left field, centre field, right field. First base, second base, third base, catcher, shortstop. The ball can only go one way, forward - anything hit at less than 45 degrees is a foul, the ball gets pitched again. The ball has to be thrown at a nice hittable height between shoulder and knee, right in front of the batter. Anything else is an unfair pitch, four of them and the batter gets a free quarter of a run.
  In cricket, the ball can be coming at the batsman absolutely anywhere, foot to head, in front, behind or straight AT him. If the batsman is hit, he doesn't get a free quarter of a run, he gets hurt. And still has to face the next ball.
  The ball can be hit in any direction. So the fielding captain has to set a field to try to anticipate this. The field is circular or oval, not square, and twice the size of a baseball park. And we're talking multiple runs, up to six from each ball. You don't have to get three guys out, you have to dismiss ten of them.
  An American I knew, a student on exchange to Australia, played cricket a few times and told me he'd never be scared playing baseball again, and wouldn't bother with a helmet. "In baseball, they pitch the ball FOR you. In cricket, they bowl the ball AT you."

• Not even true. You actually have to use strategy to score runs in baseball, not just hit the ball a certain distance every time. The bats in cricket are angled and flat making it way easier to strike the ball. Baseball bats have about a 6 inch sweet spot and you have to hit all of the ball to make it go any distance at all.

• And don't be fooled into thinking the flat surface of a cricket bat makes it easy to strike the ball a long way. A cricket bat also has a sweet spot, miss it and the ball can go straight up in the air for a catch, down and inward onto the wicket, up and inward into the batsman's body (very painful). Also when the ball bounces on its way to the batsman, it can move sideways off the pitch (further than a curve ball in baseball, which is not allowed to bounce - cricket balls also curve further than baseballs due to the straight shape of the seam, its a windbreak), can curve one way then bounce the other, spin sharply in any direction (a good leg spinner can release the ball out of the BACK of the hand, making it look like it's going to spin one way when it's going to go the other) ...

• limes:lemons::Baseball:crickett. Same types, different tastes. I play baseball. I love it. I could go back and fourth with you but im not going to. Both games are awesome. It is the little things in baseball (when you watch enough of it) that separate it from all other sports. You enjoy crickett. Ill watch baseball

• @engineer, I wouldn't call it arrogance, merely ignorance. Most Americans are unaware of the nuances of cricket because it's not played much over there (and then only by expatriate Brits, Aussies, Indians and dudes from the Caribbean). Doubtless we'd be the same if baseball had caught on in a bigger way than cricket over here.
